Once again SONY has found a way to get a high-quality product into the hands of the average person by keeping the price within reason. This is my second SONY amplifier/receiver and I am very pleased with my new purchase. Still when played at a high-volume level, this SONY amp/receiver is perfect for someone who wants truly crystal-clear sound reproduction. It even has a mode called Pure Direct that shuts all the lights off on the unit and resets the bass and treble levels to neutral. This assures that the only signal being processed is the one you're listening to and not something that can bleed into your sound output. The Bluetooth feature is fantastic. My smart phone, computer, ear buds, and TV all pair to it effortlessly. I'm already planning my next purchase. I think I'm going to go up a model and get a system that has true surround sound so that I can have a new unit powering my TV in the living room as this unit ended up in my bedroom. I have yet to purchase a product from SONY that did not live up to my expectations. So, if you're looking to purchase a 2-channel amp/receiver that puts out the power and ensures crystal clear clarity with high highs and low lows, look no further. The closest competition I looked at was a Yamaha R-S202BL, which I'm sure is also a good product. However, when putting together a system I found that having the same make of speakers as the power unit can be extremely important, especially if you want to get the sound that's advertised. My one and only knock on this unit is that there are no bass or treble controls directly on the unit. To adjust these levels, you must have the remote, without it is no good. So, do yourself a favor and put your money down on something that has a solid build quality, a history of great sound, state-of-the-art features and a price you can afford. Get this unit, you will not be disappointed.

After almost 15 years my old Insignia receiver bit the dust so time for a new receiver. Since my use is for music no need for a surround unit. The sale price made the purchase a no brainer. Hooked it up to my pair of 6ohm Dayton speakers and 12 inch Monoprice subwoofer and the system cranks. I now realize the old receiver had some serious spund issues. The Sony is clear as a bell and passes the bass to the subwoofer through the speaker outputs with ease. Sound quality is excellent, not audiophile but close enough for my ears. No issues with the 6ohm load. The Bluetooth is AAC and works great, Sound quality is good but not quite as good as the Insignias Aptx. If you are looking for a good 2 channel receiver this is the one to get.

The Sony STRDH190 is a solid performer for a variety of basic home stereo needs. It has 4 L/R audio inputs, plus an additional phono input for turntables with an MM type cartridge.The unit has bare-wire connectors for two sets of speakers, A and B. The setup guide makes it clear that you MUST have speakers connected to the unit before applying power. Without speakers, the amplifier could fail. Permanently.I really like the built-in Bluetooth capability; I can stream music from my phone or computer without a hassle.This unit replaces a 20+ year-old Sony receiver that served me well for a long time. Finally, the "portable in" input on the front is a nice touch, it's something I always felt was lacking on the STR-DH130.Setup took about 15 minutes- the hardest part was running the power cord behind my entertainment center. A detachable cord would have been easier, the cord on this unit is hard-wired. Once that problem was solved, connecting the speakers and the audio input was simple, Sound quality is nice, no different than with the STR-DH130, but that's fine as I was happy with the sound quality on that unit,So why not 5 stars? A few small things that I personally feel could have been better. First, I know that this is a 2.0 unit, not 2.1, but I really wish there was a subwoofer out. There were no 2.1 units at my local Best Buy, and it looks like there are not any available to order at this time, which forces you to go with a 5.1 or 7.1 unit if you want that subwoofer out. Second, the delay from when you turn this unit on until the sound comes on is a lot longer than the STR-DH130- it's about 10 seconds versus 5 on the old unit. It's just long enough to make you wonder if the receiver is on before it clicks, and you hear the sound. Third, there are no EQ adjustments other than basic bass and treble. This is the same as the STR-DH130, but it seems that over time Sony would have added some EQ settings. Fourth, the FM antenna is a small wire with a proprietary connector, even though I rarely listen to FM radio I tested it and only got a couple of stations. Finally, some of the features (like balance) are hidden in the AMP menu, which is not easy to navigate.These are minor issues which may or may not matter to you. For my purposes it's a very nice unit which sounds good and has a few new upgrades since the last time I purchased a basic Sony 2.0 channel receiver, and I am very satisfied with it!

I bought this Sony receiver based on the reviews and it was on sale. Sony claims 100w per channel but I could immediately tell that was not true. I have old school Cerwin Vega speakers and this receiver had trouble powering them. At low volumes, the bass would drop out completely. At high volumes, there just wasn't enough headroom or power to sufficiently drive my Cerwin Vega's. Disappointed, I returned this receiver and purchased the Yamaha 200w 2ch Stereo Reciever (model #R-S202BL) that sounds much better and drives my Cerwin Vegas easily. This Sony stereo receiver is weak, IMO, and does not deliver a powerful sound.
