Iâm a fiddler, and I havenât had a fiddle for 2 weeks. There, Iâve said it.Iâm one of those people that canât help but fiddle, tweak and interfere with settings, whether it be in the car or my HiFi â itâs a bad habit that achieves marginal amateurish results. My worst habit is fiddling with TVâs.I sit there and torment myself - could the black be blacker? Is it bright enough? What about the skin tones? You get the idea.It drives my good lady wife mad, and she quite rightly questions why I have to do this anyway, surely the investment in the item should give me the best out of the box. And of course sheâs right, as she is with most things. This brings me to the Sony Bravia 9, this is what I can only describe as a âstatement TVâ, everything about it is ... MoreIâm a fiddler, and I havenât had a fiddle for 2 weeks. And of course sheâs right, as she is with most things. This brings me to the Sony Bravia 9, this is what I can only describe as a âstatement TVâ, everything about it is statementây. The box is a work of recyclable art and engineering, designed with such thought that the box even assists in assembling the legs for the included stand (so clever). The actual screen itself is finished in premium materials that simply look amazing in any room. Guests have audibly gasped with delight upon first sight â and thatâs even before itâs powered on.Feed it a high-quality signal like 4K, HDR or Dolby Vision and OMG (as my kids said), itâs breathtaking and a real WOW moment. The definition, the brightness, the colour and a first for me is the fabric of the image â almost better than life like. Despite all the technical wizardry going on behind the scenes, Iâve never seen an image look so NOT processed and so real-world-like.I stand proudly admiring the image and the reactions of my casual audience, but there is no pride for me personally, as this isnât a result of my own fiddling and tweaking and therefore, I canât claim (like I used to) that this greatness was down to my fine eyes and my ability to navigate and interpret the settings.Sonyâs very clever engineers have created a TV that calibrates itself based on not only the specific content you are viewing, but also how you are viewing.Itâs called Calibrated Mode, and itâs a game changer. Whether you are streaming through Netflix or Prime or even Sonyâs own Sony Pictures Core streaming service, the TV understands what you are watching and therefore what you should see, as The Director intended.A studio and professional quality image out of the box without all the hours and hours of fiddling. Add in the optional Bravia Cam, and it will even take into account your viewing environment (including your seating position) and calibrate accordingly. My torment and that constant search for the perfect picture is over, all thatâs left for me to do is to enjoy the movie or the game, and thatâs the way it should be.Bravo Bravia.

I have the Sony Bravia 9, 75-inch TV, and after unboxing my first impressions were that it is a big TV, with excellent build quality and a very sleek design.I currently have the TV mounted on the feet that are supplied with it. You have a choice of width of where you place the feet, which is great to cater for different sizes of TV cabinet. Plus, the choice of height to have the TV, which allows the placement of a soundbar at the bottom of the TV.What I do like is that the TV comes with a choice of remote controls, one of which illuminates and is also USB rechargeable. The quality of the Eco-friendly plastics used for this is much improved on previous versions of remote controllers.Setting up the TV I found was straightforward, almost like plug and play. The quality of the Eco-friendly plastics used for this is much improved on previous versions of remote controllers.Setting up the TV I found was straightforward, almost like plug and play. After connecting to the WIFI, the TV recognised what I was connecting to it, (satellite service, sound bar and voice activated service) and then through the built in Google TV, logging on to my streaming services following the easy onscreen instructions and QR codes.I was all set up and ready to watch and explore the features of this TV very quickly.I am very impressed with the excellent picture quality from this TV. It adapts to its environment well, the picture is vibrant and sharp. For me this TV reproduces well balanced vivid colours, contrasting shadows and highlights, in what to me looks very accurate representation and with true colour tones. The TV has several pre-defined viewing modes which you can change dependent upon the content you are watching. There is also the option to fine tune these picture settings to really make the picture you see personal to your taste. In addition, this TV also continues with the feature to provide the option to calibrate and optimise your feed from streaming services, again with the additional options to make the viewing adjustments for yourself.Personally, I am more than happy with the output from the predefined picture settings provided and have not needed to fine tune or tinker with anything. The picture produced by this TV is giving me an excellent immersive viewing experience that both me and my family are thoroughly enjoying. Also contributing to this immersive experience is the audio that is produced by this TV.The TV adapts the sound to the size and shape of the room, and I can say that the sound direct from this TV is the best I have experienced. Again, you can utilise the built in equaliser function where you can adjust the sound output to suit your own taste. The sound output really does fill the room with clear vocals, good midtones plus a decent bass sound, this TV produces a very good sense of surround sound. The built in smart TV functions are comprehensive and intuitive, and again linking to your streaming accounts was very simple, following the on-screen instructions.Overall, I think that this is an excellent TV with the standout features being both a stunning picture and superb sound output. In addition, for me, being able to adapt both picture and sound qualities to your own personal taste / room qualities only enhances a truly immersive and thoroughly enjoyable viewing experience that I have from this TV.

I purchased the B9 before Best Buy even had stock but they brought it to my home and installed it since i didnt have a vehicle large enough to carry a 75 inch monster. When i first turned it on it was like a huge light had been flipped on. My gosh, you certainly donât have to worry about the brightness of this television. I am coming from a LGOLED that only gave me three years of service before the panel started flaking out and showing visible lines vertically and horizontally throughout the panel. I added the B9 soundbar, the largest subwoofer and the larger rear surround speakers for full sound effects. Watching normal television the rear speakers are real quiet. Overall, i love this mini LED TV and sound system. The remote doesnât seem to hold a charge well but i will continue to monitor it in case i need a replacement. I purchased extra warranty. Im telling you, i cant tell a difference between this mini led vs. OLED, its that good. I paid 3999.00 but within a week the price dropped 500.00 and due to Best Buys price guarantee i went back to the store a got my 500.00 plus tax refunded. So for 3495.00 i was tickled to death. It almost paid for my rear surround speakers. Enough said, just go purchase a Bravia 9 and youâll be blown away like myself. Im 100% pleased and a huge thanks to the geeks.ïżŒ
Sonyâs Bravia 9 or XR90.My main tv which I just replaced with this model was the Sony KDS-R60XBR1 60" Grand Wega 1080p rear-projection TV from 2004 (I also have a Sony XBR9-55 inch). Back in the day that thing was a beast. It had side by side screen AND picture in picture. The sound from that TVâs speakers was also awesome. It was the brightest tv (LCD) that I had seen, and it still works to this day. I had to move on and up because Sony quit supporting the bulbs made for it years ago and 3rd party bulbs are terrible. Technology has gotten better but I couldn't beat 20 years with a television.Let me say something I donât see a lot of people mentioning and that is know what you need for your viewing environment. Technology has gotten better but I couldn't beat 20 years with a television.Let me say something I donât see a lot of people mentioning and that is know what you need for your viewing environment. I need a bright tv because I have a bright room. If you have a dark or dim light room, then get an OLED. The debate back and forth about which kind of tv is better than another is ridiculous.Look at all the specs and reviews to help you decide. Yes, Iâm going to say the same thing that everyone else has saidâŠâŠThis tv is bright! Thatâs what hits you in the face first but, itâs the rich contrast, colors, and black levels together that makes this tv exceptional. The sound from the tv speakers is the best with digital encoded media (movies, music) but you have to play around with the EQ. Standard video mode Is the best for general tv watching but I prefer professional mode for everything else and again you need to play around with the settings to get the most for what you want.Movies, shows, and sports look great in any lighting. I remember reading a personâs review on being dissatisfied with near or direct sunlight blooming and the glare (although it has anti-glare technology) making it unwatchable. I donât know what tv would stop that, however, I would say depending on the angle in which light does come into your room it does make a difference on viewing things that are dark (see picture) because you can see the color panels. My PS4 looks pretty good although I donât game a lot on this tv right now (I use the other Sony for that) itâs probably not as good visually as the PS5 but works well for my needs. So, to wrap it up. Know what you need for your viewing room (dark room oled and a bright room mini led). If cost is a factor, then this may not be the answer and believe me I understand. Right now, this is the best option of getting oled like blacks with exceptional contrast and colors for a bright room. The quality of the packaging and materials it's made of are second to none and I didnât expect anything less from a company like Sony. Iâm lookingforward to this tv lasting at least close to what I got out of it's grandfather in the lcd that I retired.
I have had any interest in TV technology and especially picture quality for many years now, probably stemming from my career of over a decade in the cinema industry. I have always been looking for the 'perfect' picture! With so many advances in technology the quality is always improving and giving more 'wow' moments. Just when I think I have seen the best and nothing can beat it, something new comes along.Back in 2016 I purchased the Sony 65ZD9 which was the flagship LED at the time. It was stunning. It's actually still stunning and to this day produces an amazing image. But time moves on and after eight years, (and a newly decorated living room), I thought it was about time to invest in something larger and enough time had passed for a true jump in ... MoreI have had any interest in TV technology and especially picture quality for many years now, probably stemming from my career of over a decade in the cinema industry. Roughly 45kg with the stand. You will need at least two people to lift it, with the instructions actually advising three. The TV is extremely well packaged with large polystyrene sections around the whole screen. Cardboard and a plastic sheet also wrap around the whole TV. Accessories and back panel segments are all securely packaged. The first thing to do is attach the feet. These are substantial in their weight, being made of metal and finished in a very dark brushed gunmetal. The feet can be positioned in four different ways depending on your requirements. Due to my current, relatively small TV stand , I fitted mine in the narrow position raised up to fit a soundbar underneath. They are very easy to fit with just two screws for each foot.AV connections are all on the left (as you look at the TV), and are all covered by a removeable panel. There are a few panels to fit once you have fitted everything which gives a very clean and tidy look - something first started by the ZD9! Cables can be run down behind the legs of the feet and plastic cover then keep them in place. Very simple, but a great idea to hide cables away from sight. With the panels in place, they are 'hidden' with a chequered effect across the whole of the rear of the TV. Again it keeps everything looking very clean. The mains adaptor is wired into the TV so there is no external power adaptor. The AV connections include two USB ports, an optical connector, ethernet port, cable TV ports and four HDMI ports. Only ports 3 and 4 are 2.1 compatible so you need to use those for 4k/120hz gaming etc. Also you need to turn on the enhanced mode for those inputs which is found in the TV settings. But enough of the rear as it's not something you will be looking at often! The edges of the Bravia 9 are framed with a aluminium metal which is a nice, and quality finish, but nothing outstanding. I did actually prefer the subtle gold finish on my old ZD9. Whilst on the subject of the sides, the depth of the TV is something that stood out to me when compared to many wafer thin TVs on the market. It's definitely not an issue for me though as it will be down to the technology inside which is the most important. The bezel on the the front of the TV is almost wafer thin though! The sides and top of the screen have an 8mm black bezel. The bottom of the screen has a slightly wider separate metal strip running across the front in the same finish as the feet. This features the SONY logo sitting on the left hand side in a subtle finish. The Bravia 9 is a very well built TV (almost like a tank!) and looks good but I feel it would have benefitted from a slightly more classy finish in some areas especially around the edges.Another item which could have been better is the remote. Mine actually came with two, a standard plastic one with two AAA batteries, and a recycled plastic version with USB charging. The latter is slightly more weightier but I feel, for a premium flagship TV, this should have been aluminium or higher quality material. The USB version features blue specks within the black finish which is ok but not really my cup of tea. It also features a microphone and lights up when it senses motion if the ambient light is dark enough - definitely a nice feature. This remote also has buttons specifically for certain apps such as Sony Pictures Core and Netflix.Starting the TV up is quick and straight forward but make sure you set the date and time correctly otherwise it may not connect to the internet - something I found out and spending five minutes checking all my connections! It is also worth checking for any firmware updates when you set it up.The sound is one of the very first things to set up. The Bravia 9 will carry out acoustic diagnostics based on the dimensions of your room. This will help provide the best surround sound for your environment. This is the first big revelation of the TV.The sound is amazing! There are no options for different types of surround sound effect such as Sport, Stadium, etc. Just On, Off or Auto which detects what type of sound is coming from the original source. The surround sound in my opinion is just as good as some separate speakers and soundbars. The TV includes speakers to give sound height as well as depth. It's truly impressive from TV speakers. Of course you can also set the TV up to use external speakers (ARC is included on HDMI 3), and the Bravia 9 can even be configured as the centre speaker for a true surround sound set up. The bass is very impressive and you can also adjust certain aspects of the sound. Definitely the best sounding TV I have ever heard!Returning to set up in general and the menus. There are a bewildering array of different picture modes and settings. One thing I have found an issue with is trying to find the correct menu screen when you want to change certain options. There are also numerous sub menus if you want to calibrate the TV. The menus themselves are very fast and fluid. The picture mode I immediately went to was Professional as I like the picture to be as realistic as possible. There are different modes depending on your preference, such as Vivid, Calm and Photo. This all leads on to the star of the show, the picture itself (although the sound up there!).I knew that after 8 years of buying my last TV, the technology would have improved but the Bravia 9 is stunning!Starting with SDR and even in professional mode with the low brightness of 4, the picture is amazing even in my bright living room. The screen itself is very anti-reflective which also helps. The colours are exceptional with skin tones looking realistic. Thanks to the Mini LED technology, the amount of dimming zones and software, one thing I immediately noticed was hardly any blooming around bright objects. I have never watched an OLED TV which I know are famed for their black levels, but the black on the Bravia 9 is superb. So far I have stayed with the local dimming set to medium as I think it gives the best balance of black level whilst retaining detail. The photo of the Robocop film was from a UK cable channel in 1080 HD.The other immediate area which struck me was the motion. My old TV was very good at it but did suffer with some motion blur especially on sports programmes. So far I haven't noticed any motion blur which I believe is down to the improved reponse times of the Mini LED's. Personally I switch off all motion enhancing options but they are there if you need/like them. And now we move on to the absolute highlight, (in every sense of the word!).HDR.HDR is what the Bravia 9 was built for. This TV is so bright it could compete with the sun (possibly!). Bright flashes almost make you squint especially in a dark room. Scenes in movies come alive. And all with very little or no blooming. Coupled with the superb black levels, the contrast gives almost a 3D feel at times. And of course HDR is not just about how dark or bright the picture is, but it gives stunning colour and details within those colours. One of the first things I watched was a SONY HDR demo from a USB file. I had watched it on my ZD9 and it was amazing. On the Bravia 9 it's on another level I didn't think possible. In one scene the sun glints on water and it truly looks like you are looking out of a window, not at a screen!I would definitely recommend watching the IMAX Enhanced demo which can be found through the Sony Pictures Core App. The Bravia 9 has been certified for this content and it really shows off the performance capabilities of the TV. SONY also gave credits to use to buy films through the service which was a very nice surprise! Whilst using the Core app I noticed another bewildering choice of options. You can obviously keep the picture mode set to your normal mode or you can choose the Sony Pictures Core calibrated mode OR Imax Enhanced mode! To be honest I can't see any difference between Professional and the latter two.Gaming is also a huge improvement over what I have been used to. There is a game mode (with various sub picture modes for FPS games, etc) and of course 120hz support. At the time of reviewing the Bravia 9, I have only had it for a few weeks. I could live with the professional mode but I will have the TV professionally calibrated. I had my ZD9 calibrated and it made a huge difference. I don't think it will make as big a difference on the Bravia 9 as SONY have done a great job on the picture out of the box. But with a premium flagship TV I want to get everything out of it as don't plan on changing it for a good few years!I wanted to give the Bravia 9 5 out of 5 but there are a few niggles. The overall aesthetics of the TV, the remote and the sometimes confusing menus have made me drop a star. However, incredible sound and truly amazing picture blows me away every time.I have only just started to scratch the surface of what the Bravia 9 can deliver and as this is new state of the art technology from SONY, further firmware updates will only elevate this TV even further into the stratosphere and into orbit next to that other extremely bright object.
As filmmakers work with increasingly higher dynamic range, displaying such content accurately has grown problematic. OLED produces incredible blacks on the low end but struggles to reproduce & sustain correct brightness â especially across large surface areas. LED panels can sustain high brightness, but historically struggled in the blacks.Taking this challenge head on, Sony developed an entirely new type of Mini LED backlighting tech which incorporates thousands of discrete 22-bit drivers to not only control each dimming zone, but also to individually turn each LED on & off & adjust for luminance. The result is not only wider dynamic range with deeper blacks & brighter brights, but also greater detail in the shadows & highlights â all displayed with rich color ... MoreAs filmmakers work with increasingly higher dynamic range, displaying such content accurately has grown problematic. The result is not only wider dynamic range with deeper blacks & brighter brights, but also greater detail in the shadows & highlights â all displayed with rich color which is second to none. The first implementation of this tech was on Sonyâs BVM-HX3110 TRIMASTER HX 4K Professional Master Monitor â a $25K display used by Hollywood studios for color grading & mastering films. With Bravia 9, Sony attempted to match their master monitor as closely as possible, so viewers can see it exactly as the director did.Living with Bravia 9 for a week, Iâd say they succeeded.Out of the box, a quick switch of the Picture Profile to âProfessionalâ shifted the color close to perfect. A quick demo watching Dune Part 2 really allowed Bravia 9 to show its prowess. On even the very best OLED panels (including Sonyâs own previous flagship), the panels fail to correctly render the bright, almost white desert skies on Arakis leaving them greyish by comparison to the more faithful rendering on the Bravia 9.Something to point out is people talk a lot about brightness, but more brightness is useless if not properly controlled, and Sony's proprietary back light tech helps Bravia 9 control with finesse allowing for correct brightness both across the entire frame & in specular highlights with virtually no blooming. Black levels are equally rich & impressive.Because of such wide contrast, Brava 9 looks as good watching with the blinds open on a sunny afternoon as it does for late night viewing with the lights down.Although Iâm pairing Bravia 9 with a discrete 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos surround setup, the TV audio itself is quite good (even boasts a bit of mid bass) & would make a formidable center channel for Sonyâs own Bravia Theater Quad wireless surround system.I highly recommend Bravia 9 to discerning movie fans & videophiles, but equally to sports fans.Bravia 9 is a TV that can do it all & raises the bar for all others.
While every youtube reviewer will say it's hard to beat an OLED, they all say this is a very close second, almost even. Plus it doesn't suffer from "burn in" on your screen like OLEDs, (NEVER buy an OLED without the 5 year warranty).Out of the box the very first thing to do is turn off the Power Save setting. I thought at first mine was defective because the picture was so dark, THEN I turned the setting off and almost needed sunglasses. No matter how much light is in the room, this TV shines through. But as for the power saving, I didn't pay $3K for a dark/dim TV.While you can use WiFi or ethernet to connect, I found later on that the TV was drawing power when it's supposed to be OFF. But as for the power saving, I didn't pay $3K for a dark/dim TV.While you can use WiFi or ethernet to connect, I found later on that the TV was drawing power when it's supposed to be OFF. I traced it down to the Internet connection. With Internet, it was drawing 38 Watts. I unplugged the Internet and power went down to 0 Watts. Not sure what's going on there, but the TV seems to be "phoning home" during the night. I stream with a FireTV Stick so my set doesn't need Internet, but if you use Google TV which is built in, THEN you'll need to connect it. Google has a dozen settings collecting info on you; content, how long you watch each program, when the TV is on or off, etc. Apps are also doing the same thing. This is why I think the TV is uploading all this info on you during the night. They sell this info and soon you'll get more junk mail, more junk email, telemarketer phone calls, etc. Most of Sony's settings are pretty close to perfect. There's a YouTube calibration video to make it even better, mostly by turning off some things. Don't be afraid to make changes as you can reset each section anytime and start over. I only needed to change the color a bit to make red less pink.Once you do some basic calibration, STANDARD looks fantastic for everything, TV shows and movies. CINEMA is a bit too dark for shows with a lot of indoor or night scenes. If you want Sparkle to show off your TV to friends, used VIVID on the show "Las Vegas."While the TV sound is much better than your average TV, most with a set like this will have their own Home Theater sound system. My FireTV Stick is plugged into my AVR amp, which extracts the digital sound info and sends the picture to the TV, so setup was easy for me.As far as lip-sync goes, there are adjustments in the Bravia that can do the job, but in my case my AVR can also do it. Usually the video lags behind the sound, because the picture undergoes a lot of internal processing, so obviously they have circuitry that will delay the sound so they match up.
My new Bravia 9 75'' replaced a 12-year-old 55'' Samsung, so nearly any new TV would be a massive upgrade, but regardless of that fact, the new Bravia 9, which is Sony's new flagship model, and debatably the ultimate replacement for the master series' Z9D, is an incredible TV for a mini-LED model. The picture quality on the Bravia 9 is a game-changer, especially in its brightness levels and color contrast. Keep in mind - this is NOT an OLED TV - but the level of blacks are so deep and dark, that I am having a hard time telling the difference. Should you get this or an OLED, like the LG's G lineup (G3/G4) or even Sony's own Bravia 8, or the A95L? I think it depends on your use case. If you're viewing TV mostly in a dark room, where the light can be controlled, then definitely go for an OLED. In my case, I have a fairly bright living room where this new TV resides, but do have the ability to control the light - however, I felt like the Bravia 9 would work best. I had a G4 77'' inch on order but canceled it as I got buyer's remorse with the much higher price tag. Is it a better TV? Probably. But in my use case, the Sony B9 is a game-changer for me.It was easy to set up with two people - Sony boxes their TVs in a nice way that makes things simple. Set up once the TV is on is straightforward as well. HDR content in 4k is incredible! Upscaling SDR content is its one downside, as it seems to struggle and be grainy, but could be made better by tweaking picture settings, I'm sure. The B9's audio is quite something as well. Sony has somehow worked some strange, voodoo magic into the back of the TV and the sound is nearly as effective as a proper soundbar. However, I have a full-scale Sonos system with a 5.1 surround and a subwoofer, so it wasn't needed in my use case, but you won't need a lot in addition to the stock speakers within the TV itself - they can act as a sufficient middle set should you want to add additional audio output. The integrated viewing settings for colors and brightness that Sony has included for Netflix and Amazon videos are also a nice touch, and gaming on my PS5 on this TV is an awe-inspiring experience. My only real complaint at the time of this review is that Best Buy lowered the price on the 75'' by $500 a week after I purchased my own. I am planning on contacting them to see if they will give me a rebate, post-purchase. Hopefully, they will honor it.Get the Bravia 9 and don't listen to the negative reviews out there that are mostly LG OLED fanboys that shaking in their boots that something like a mini-LED can do what this TV can do. It is an incredible TV and I am so far very happy with my purchase.
Design and Build 9.5/10The Bravia 9 is incredibly built, everything from the heavy metal feet to the sleek frame exudes quality. The metal feet can be positioned in four different ways, making it versatile for different setups, including a raised position to accommodate a soundbar. The rear has panels to help tidy all your cables. My only gripe is the non-removable power cable. The design is sleek and modern, with a checkerboard rear and metal speaker grills, making the Bravia 9 look good from every angle. I do like that it's rechargeable via USB-C and has voice search capabilities as well as optimising the TVs audio.Picture Quality 10/10The first thing that impressed me about the Bravia 9 is the fact itâs the only TV I have not had to adjust any of the settings. Professional mode on the Bravia 9 is absolutely perfect for watching movies. Normally I spend hours tweaking picture settings to get them just right. With the Bravia 9, the only adjustment I made was setting live colour to medium; everything else was spot on. The Bravia 9 is spectacularly bright which means in bright rooms, the TV gets plenty bright enough. The reflection handling is also excellent which helps at being perhaps the best TV available for bright rooms. In darker rooms, if the brightness becomes too much, then simply turn on the ambient light sensor and the TV perfectly adjusts the light output to ensure it is comfortable. The control of how well the brightness is managed on the Bravia 9 is its greatest strength. The Bravia 9 doesnât just blast out the brightest image possible; it is so much more nuanced than that. Contrast is excellent and was able to produce blacks very close to OLED. In some cases, there was a very small amount of blooming but it was not in any way distracting.Being a QLED, the colours pop and thanks to the astonishing high peak brightness, the colour volume is immense. Motion is also excellent. In terms of picture quality, the Bravia 9 is the most impressive LCD I have ever seen.Picture Quality for Films and TV shows 10/10When it comes to films and tv shows, ânaturalâ and âcinematicâ are the two words that come to mind. Motion is flawless when watching Blu Rays and thereâs something so natural about how the Bravia 9 presents everything. The colour pallet is very well controlled with plenty of volume and such nuanced control over the brightness.Ghostbusters Afterlife- Sony Pictures COREThe big fight scene at the end with the proton cannons really showed how well the Bravia 9 controls the brightness, with excellent colour depth and the black letter box bars were inky black with no noticeable blooming.Top Gun Maverick â 4K Blu RayThe scenes where they tried to reach Mach 10 were beautiful. Colours were spot on; contrast was excellent with perfect shadow detail. Again, professional picture mode is the way to go. Details were super sharp and the blacks in the cockpit were deep and inky.Planet Earth 2 â 4K Blu RayThe opening scene with the white snow showed just how clean the Bravia 9 panel is and how bright the TV can get. The details on the eagle were razor sharp and the colours demonstrated how much colour volume the Bravia 9 has. The TV had no issue reproducing any colour; it looked absolutely stunning with the perfect amount of saturation to show off how colourful life can be on planet Earth. The Grand Tour- Prime VideoThe scene with the Bugatti Chiron had my jaw dropped. The details in colour, contrast, edges and the way the lights shone with such finesse on the spectacular highlights really showed me how impeccable the Bravia 9 is.Quantum of Solace -Blu RayUpscaling 1080p Blu Rays was handled very well, without looking overly sharpened. Again, in professional mode, the Bravia 9 was nothing short of a masterpiece for cinematic SDR content.Kong vs Godzilla â 4K Blu RayThe night time fight scene with the neon lights was spectacular on the Bravia 9. Blooming was not an issue at all, even for super bright scenes from Kongâs axe and Godzillaâs atomic breath. The neon colours popped off the screen and were punchy and vibrant.Mad Max Fury Road â 4K Blu RayThe flames in the desert chase scene were incredibly rich and vibrant and the specular highlights coming off the chrome trim on the car were dazzling.Picture Quality for broadcast TVStandard definition content on a 75 inch TV is hard work, nonetheless, the Bravia 9 was up for the task. However, I would advise increasing the resolution on reality creation in the picture settings menu as this does improve the picture quite a lot. For HD content, the Bravia 9 does an great job of upscaling again without making anything look overly sharpened. Sports was brilliant as the screen can maintain its high brightness and the panel is exceptional clean.Gaming 9/10Sony has quite a lot of features for gaming. The Bravia 9 supports 4K 120Hz gaming with VRR. Thereâs also a new PlayStation remote play app, allowing you to use Remote Play from your PlayStation directly on the TV. There is a gaming menu that displays the frame rate, adds a crosshair, allows you to resize the playable area, and toggle VRR. There are also three gaming presets: Standard, FPS, and RTS. Using the PS5 auto optimisation settings, the colours were gorgeous and the contrast was excellent. There is also the option for motion blur reduction. This was very helpful for Black Myth: Wukong, as I prefer the fidelity mode on this game, which comes at the cost of frame rate. The motion blur reduction is essentially black frame insertion and made it a much better experience. I would leave this setting on low or medium if you decide to use it, as it does reduce the brightness significantly when set to high.Input lag wasnât an issue for me when playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombies or Gran Turismo 7 online. Where the Bravia 9 really comes into its own is with games such as Spider-Man 2, Horizon Forbidden West, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered. Colours on Spider-Man 2 were punchy, and darker scenes in The Last of Us Part II were handled well with excellent shadow details.Sound Quality 10/10There are a total of 8 drivers on the Bravia 9, including 2 height channels and frame tweeters (clever stuff). The sound is optimized using the microphone on the TV remote to ensure you get the best sound from the seating position. I started off watching Top Gun: Maverick and was gobsmacked at how good the speakers are on this TV. I havenât heard another TV quite like this. There was plenty of bass, way more than I have heard from any other TV. Dialogue was clear, and the two height speakers did an amazing job when the jet flew overhead. The sound system on this TV has to be heard to be believed. If you are looking at a budget to mid-range soundbar, I wouldnât bother; the Bravia 9 is more than adequate. Obviously, it isnât a replacement for a high-end soundbar or a dedicated home theatre; however, Sony still allows you to integrate the built-in speakers into a compatible home theatre setup.I use a 5.1.2 home theatre setup and felt like I wasnât getting the most out of the TV if I didnât use the TV speakers as well. Thankfully, Sony has thought of a solution to this. With a compatible Sony AV receiver or soundbar, you can use the TV speakers as a centre channel, or in my case, a second centre channel with Sonyâs S-centre speaker mode. This feature allows you to make the most of the Bravia 9, as using it expands where the sound is coming from and makes it feel more like it comes directly from the screen. The effects are very subtle, to ensure there isnât a mismatch between the dedicated speakers and the TV speakers; however, it does add some more height to the centre channel, which I find great.Features 9/10The Bravia 9 runs Google TV, which is an excellent operating system as you can download apps from the Google Play Store and Chromecast from other devices. The menu is easy to use, runs smoothly most of the time. There is a lot that can be customized in terms of quick settings and quick access to input selection, as well as controlling your AV receiver/soundbar settings. It comes with 10 credits to redeem films on the Sony Pictures CORE app. This app is something all other streaming platforms need to take a note from as the CORE app streams 4K HDR movies at high bitrates which rivals 4K Blu Ray. The app has a huge list of Sony films you can choose from, including many that can be watched for free. The tv also has a PlayStation Remote Play app, allowing you to connect to a PS5 in another room in the house and play on the TV. handy feature, however I do have my PS5 connected directly to the Bravia 9.The Bravia 9 supports Dolby vision, HDR10 and HLG. Streaming apps including Sony Pictures CORE, Netflix and Prime Video have an option to turn on calibrated mode which automatically puts your TV in the best picture mode. The Bravia 9 also supports Calman software which makes calibrating the TV easier. This is not something I have done as the professional mode results in phenomenal picture quality as is.Conclusion 10/10Overall, the Bravia 9 produces some of the best picture quality I have ever seen; the colour volume is excellent, blacks are deep and inky, motion is absolutely perfect and there is such nuanced control of the brightness. Furthermore, the Bravia 9 has top-tier build quality, stunning design, runs Google Tv and has the best sound system I have heard built into a TV. This TV is the complete package for everyone and is truly one of the best TVs I have ever seen. I would highly, highly recommend it.
