I bought this camera because only a Sony would fit my lenses and other attachments from my film SLR Minolta Maxxum V, and I didn't want to be out the expense of buying new lenses. My Tamron 28-200mm and Quantaray 2X AF teleconverter fit it just fine and my Quantaray 72mm ultraviolent filter fit the Sony 18-55 lens that comes with the camera just fine also.I chose this particular model because it was within my price range; a better quality camera than the A58 and not as expensive as the A77. For me, having to buy a digital SLR was a necessary evil because it was getting too difficult to find a photo processor that developed good quality photos from my SLR Minolta Maxxum V.Initially, I figured nothing could hold a candlestick to my Maxxum V, but I am impressed ... It has all the basic features, viewfinder for precise framing, padded eye piece, ISO control, aperture control and many, many more. Holds comfortably in my small hands and has a comfortable weight. This is my second digital camera. My first was a Fujifilm Finepix F500EXR, which is an excellent camera for a point 'n shoot. I merely bought it a couple of years ago as a tool to learn how to use a digital. After having learned on it, I knew I was then ready for a new DSLR.I cannot recommend one DSLR brand over another, other than to say if you are a Minolta user and looking for a compatible DSLR camera, you'll need to go with the Sony. Sony took over Minolta and kept the a-mount lens.I haven't been able to use my new Sony a65 much yet to give you my opinion on the all of its features. I'll add more to this comment in the near future and give you an update then.

I have owned many Cameras in the past Bridge Cameras Mostly. I purchased the DSLR-A100 which was Sony's first Digital SLR. Excellent Camera. I decided to wait to upgrade that one but I did purchase a couple of Bridge cameras instead the DSC-HX100v and the DSC-HX200v which I just purchased from WalMart right before I bought this great camera. I was shooting in a house with low light the 200v worked great but I knew that a DSLR would do alot better in Low Light due to the larger image sensor that is used. I had been saving for a SLT-A77 but decided on the this camera due to the recent price drop and to me an additional $500 for the A77 which may give you a few extra features that I won't even use. You get the Same great Image Sensor and the Great OLED Viewfinder that the A77 has just minus a few extras that really are not needed. This Camera gives you the Same Sensor as the A77 and the 15point focusing system is the same from the A55 which was highly rated first SLT. Single Len Transparent. This looks like a SLR but it is not there is no mirror that flips up and down. Jsut a semi Transparent Prism that allows 70% of the light though to the Image Sensor the rest goes to the EVF Sensor which is a OLED EVF this is ground breaking because it gives you the best possible picture of what you are photographing. OLED is a first in the Industry and the image that you see looks great through the viewfinder as close as a optical Viewfinder as you can get without going back to a DSLR style mechanism.Highly Recomend this camera to anyone who want the ability to change their lenses. and who needs low light coverage with 1080p video. This Camera really does it all. And until the A77 drops in price I will be taking many photos well into the future. The A77 will be replaced and maybe that one is next on my upgrade list.ThanksJoe

Live view viewfinder ensures you get exposures right first time. Downsides are Auto ISO only goes to 1600. and zooming in/out when reviewing images by pressing buttons is a bit ponderous compared to the rotary dial on my other camera.

Item is not as described near perfect condition this Camera is unusable. The motion sensor is bad and no parts available for this model.
My favorite camera! I have been taking pictures over 40 years as a serious hobbyist, taken a few classes and on occasion produced beautiful pictures, much like many photo fan. Like most I always wanted the best my budget could afford, from 35mm, medium format film cameras to the digital Nikon and Canon etc. Time has a way of moving away from the "cool" to the ease and performance that we have become accustom to. Many say age but for now time will work. I tried this Sony Alpha and the ease and quality of the pictures have impressed me like none of the other long list of cameras I have used in the past. It's fun and easy to use the Manual instead of Program and the fully Auto for those shots that don't allow the time to do all the setting, auto focus is fast and right ... MoreMy favorite camera! All of the still photography is great But the new thing for me is video and wow, this camera is easy and great fun to use. Focusing moving objects was difficult in the past but not now, it's just fun. I won't get into the technical things, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy this beauty.
This camera is not as sharp as some, not as quick as others, but it does a lot, and even some things none of the others do. You can (with a little insight) get this camera to do what it took much more money to do elsewhere. The ISO is not what you'd hope for, nor is the contrast quite as powerful as some, but if you fight for it, it will give it to you.You always seem to have to push it beyond what most would suggest, or even find out. It seems always on (or beyond) the edge of it's capability when it shines, but it does shine. The viewfinder (Translucent mirror) is like a metaphor for the whole camera, you've got to know it well enough to find the truth in what it's telling you, because all the important stuff requires a little finagling. If you're broke, and need to produce, get one and push it to it's limits, it should just barely keep up to the big shots. It lost a star for it's low light performance, sorry Sony. Kudos for the front curtain shutter setting. Get a fast lens for it.
Pro: Still very good in the actual market (2019). It is a middle-range camera at a low-end price. It is cheap at the price/qualty ratio. Can shoot 24MP photo and 1080/50p (.h264, .h265) video. (Many nowadays model can't do that.) It has external microphone port. It has external HDMI port. Cons: (not really) it is an old camera (2011's) so it don't have fancy features like NFC, Wifi and so on, but I think, that if any buy semi professional stuffs, it no sense. It is 'A-mount' so not have too many lens option like 'E-mount', but for home or semi professional use, it is enough. Heavier than actual models.
Ive owned and still own Canon and Panasonic DSLR and mirrorless cameras respectively, but none compare to the A65. Sony hit it out of the park. The focus is accurate and fast. Photos are sharp and well exposed. My favorite part, this Sony can use Minolta glass, the A mount lenses. Minolta was always known for the colors produced by their glass and you can get some wonderful lenses for pennies.
I am a commercial producer and I bought this camera to shoot video for local commercials. The features I was attracted to and love now that I've used it are:It shoots 60 frames per second, for real/overcranked slow motion. The camera has Image Stabilization. This has turned out to be pretty amazing. I put this camera on a home-made dolly that has produced jittery looking video with heavier cameras, and this relatively light camera did not record any vibration from the dolly. With the right lens you can capture very pretty video images that look closer to film with very shallow depth of field. The video quality looks great. It took a while to get used to operating the camera for shooting video, but Sony's interface makes it fairly intuitive. The only ... So sometimes when you're reaching to adjust something the picture disappear from the LCD, so you have to sneak your hand up to the buttons. Not a huge deal, but slightly annoying. The main recommendation I would give is if you are like me and looking for really shallow depth of field, especially when shooting video, the kit lens only opens up to f.3.5 at the len's widest zoom, so the depth of field is much deeper than I wanted. I ended up purchasing an additional Sony lens that opens to F1.8 which gave me the depth of field I was looking for.
love Sony SLT cameras. this one worked. these have electronic viewfinders and fast speeds. Nice bodies. good example.
