Solid fit, meant to cover and protect the lens. Original hood was damaged in a "tuck and roll" moment but did a good job protecting the glass.

On my third copy of this lens hood. Bought a new one from BH Photo right before my trip to Norway. Carried my camera gear in my photo backpack as carry on onto the plane. By the time I used the 100-400 for the first time in Norway, it wouldn't lock fully. By the end of the trip, after a few times in the daypack, it won't latch at all and loosely swivels. The same thing happened to the previous two. I'll be looking for an aftermarket equivalent, but avoid this cheap piece of junk at all costs. I guarantee this costs Sony about $3 to manufacture and they sell it for $80 only to last less than a month.

Fell while photoing in Costa Rican jungle. Camera was fine, broken lens hood. Ordered a replacement and by the time I got home it was waiting for me.
Bought this to replace the original hood for my Sony 100-400mm. The old one shattered into 5 pieces when I crashed down a mountain trail last month. The lens and my a1 were untouched (and I survived with a few cuts and bruises - nothing broken), so happy to pay for a new hood. (Seems a bit expensive for a lens hood, but that's Sony pricing, not B&H.)
Just like the original one. But it's expensive for a lens hood, Sony charges a premium for the GM lenses. GM or not, the hood is a piece of plastic.
I dealt with a poorly functioning Lens Hood for my Sony 100-400, pretty much soon after purchase of the lens, but I assumed this was normal. Finally I couldn't get it on or off the lens without a struggle. The new one works like cutting warm butter.
The original hood that came with the Sony 24-105mm f4 G lens (SEL24105G) broke at the thread, after just two years of light and careful use. It's the first time in history that a lens hood has broken for me. I had to order a replacement at WEX as the hood became unusable. Sony should start manufacturing better quality lens hoods, at least for their G & G Master lenses.
the guys are spot on. I bought a use lens and hood was broke. The guys replace it with no hassle. I like that, it is hard to find a store that backs there product they sell.
B&H asked for a review, so here it is: it fits. I mean what more is there really to say about it? the inside is black (you knew that), the outside is white (ditto), etc. it replaces the one that got broken on a safari. that one didn't survive the BUMPY road.
