I have several Sony/Zeiss lenses.....all A mount..... I own the 50mm F1.4 T* prime...the Sony/Zeiss 85mm f1.4 T* prime...the Sony/Zeiss 24mm-70 F2.8 SSM T* zoom...and an APS_C Sony/Zeiss 16 to,80mm F3.5/4.5 T* zoom...they are all outstanding performers, built well, and great Image makers...all exhibiting those famous Zeiss colors and contrast. My favorite,of them all is the 50mm normal ...outstandingmsharpness, even wide open. My A99 full frame camera body mates well with all the lenses...and my A77 body works with all of them using the 1.5 crop factor.

I cannot say enough about this amazing lens. I have been using it for almost a year and wow. Some of my best portraits were taken with this amazing lens. I highly recommend to photographers.
I have several Sony/Zeiss lenses.....all A mount..... There is simply no comparison with the smaller and cheaper Sony/Minolta 50/1.4. The images are as if three dimensional even wide open. If one needs a high speed 50mm, than there is no contest. That said, if you can live with f2.8, than the Sony/Minolta 50mm/2.8 macro produces similarly great images at a fraction of the cost of the Zeiss.
The images produced by the lens is tack sharp as expected from a Zeiss lens. The lens produces a beautiful creamy bokeh. Its therefore an excellent portrait lens.It low light performance at F1.4 was even better than I thought it will be. I was able to take good photographs with the light only from a TV at an ISO setting of 400 and above.The build quality is excellent. The addition of dust and weather sealing is an added bonus.The lens focuses very quickly. Focusing is almost silent due to the SSM motor.

Outstanding build & image quality, this spends much of its time on my A99. As a pro commercial photographer the weather sealing is a welcomed addition too. This is a premium, quality piece of glass with a price tag to match - However, as i have found with all my other Zeiss lenses, its a price tag worth paying for. For me however there are 2 flaws: Firstly, is the supplied plastic lens hood!? - All the the other Alpha mount Zeiss lenses have high quality metal lens hoods, which not only carry that Zeiss quality to the finest detail, but also means they are more durable. Secondly, and although this may seem trivial, there is no leather pouch with the lens, like like is supplied with the other 5 Zeiss and Sony G lenses?? I’ve had this lens for a couple of months & it is absolutely stunning, excellent build quality, very sharp images & at f1.4 the bokah is Awesome!!
I recently purchased this lens to use with the new SONY A99 mk 11. I did hesitate at the price but wanted a prime lens for the sensor on the new camera . All I can say is wow , the colours , the bokeh , speed of focus , sharpness ,this lens has it all , I realise some of these points are subjective to each individual, but I cannot fail to see anyone being disappointed with this lens .I have not compared this to any of the cheaper primes from Sony or third party companies , so all I can say is , if you can afford this lens , buy it . When I was reading the reviews on this lens , the word POP kept being mentioned regarding the colours , when you see the results from this lens you will fully understand what this means.
Compared to other camera systems and lenses I have owned in my 60 year love of Photography, this is the smoothest, fastest and sharpest lens I have ever owned.An investment I am so pleased that I have made.
