Great Lens at a reasonable price. Very fast for the size and reasonable bokeh nice and compact take every where lens . Good for street photography not too obvious. I had this lens before but I part exchanged for another lens and I decided to buy it again which speaks volumes.

I recently got a Sony a5000 and was looking for an upgrade to the kit lens. I wanted something more portable because I like to take pictures when traveling. This lens is very small in size by itself, about half the size of a kit lens. The included lens hood makes it almost the same size as the kit lens so while it's nice, I probably won't be using it much.As for the photo quality, it loses some sharpness compared to a normal prime due to the pancake design, but it's still better than the kit lens. The f2.8 is a good advantage, letting me take pictures indoors without having to crank up the ISO too high. It gets some good bokeh too and is sharp enough for the average user like me. The camera fits snugly in my pocket and still takes pretty darn good pictures. As for the freebies in the bundle, the cleaning kit is nice. Filters seem of decent quality. I haven't tried the lens cap dongle yet. The included software is nice once you get it working. I had some trouble installing it because there was a glitch where the install window wasn't big enough to click anything. The trick was to make another administrator account on Windows and install it using that account. For some reason it works that way.Overall this is a great bundle. You get a good lens and some nice photo editing software if you don't have Photoshop already. Only knocking it a star because it would be nice if they could pull a miracle and make the lens as sharp as a normal prime and also the software glitch for the photo editing.

I got into Sony as a second system late last summer. I had been looking at different mirrorless options and came upon a great deal on a used a6000, so I bought into Sony. Not long after that I bought the 20mm. It had decent reviews and on the a6000, I can put it in a pocket, part of the draw of mirrorless is size and a lens like this keeps the size down. But the lens must perform and I am happy with the performance of the 20. This is the lens that spends the most time on the a6000, It is fairly sharp, has good contrast and colors. The 20mm focal length is quite useful. As expected, a pancake lens is fast and accurate on focusing. The well designed compact lens hood allows it to stay on all of the time while maintaining the small size.

I've been using the Zeiss 24/1.8 which btw is not sharp at 1.8 or 2.0 and starts to get there at 2.2 and beyond. And I've been using all the Zeiss primes for the A7r and A7s, and over the years Ive owned a fes ASPH Leica, Kern, Zeiss, Rodenstock and Schneider Kreuznach optics as well as using Cooke lenses for cinematography. I've also tested and calibrated optics on a collimator too, so I think I can safely say that I know what a lens needs to be. So lets call a spade a spade here; Within the parameters of a 2.8 pancake lens, the SEL20F28 is an outstanding lens at 2.8. Its as sharp as the Zeiss 24/1.8 SEL24F18Z at 2.8. Its also as sharp as the Zeiss 35/2.8 SEL35F28Z for the A7 series cameras. Its also as sharp as the Zeiss 35/2.8 SEL35F28Z for the A7 series cameras. Its not as sharp as the 55/1.8 SEL55F18Z, because that lens is quite mind blowing. Having a field of view of a 30mm in FF terms, give the freedom of visual breathing space like a 28, without the distortion of a 28. It recedes like a 28 without any of the perceptive angular distortion: it looks like a 35mm for its complete LACK of distortion, but its wider. It reminds me of the Leica 24/2.8 Elmarit-M, a 24mm lens with no perceivable angular distortion (it shot like a 50 or 60 macro for its flatness of field). Our little gem here vignettes, and its got barrel distortion, but we never see that because if we are smart we use smart software to compensate for that, so in effect those issues do not exist. What we do see is that it smears at the extreme 10% edges left and right, buts ok because generally I point the lens at the subject and use the center 60% 99.99% of the time. It will take a standard B+W MRC under the hood. And if you want to add a Polarizer, or any other 49mm threaded filter or step-up ring, you can, using the threads on the outside of the hood. I wish more manufacturers would make hoods like this, or the reverse hood on the SEL35F28Z for the A7 series. It's so nice and wee. Fuji did a nice job with their 18 and 35 metal hoods when the X-Pro 1 came out. It would have been nice if they had made the focus ring overlap part of the body of the lens giving the fingers an additional 3mm purchase. Ive modified my lens by adding a 3mm strip of PU plastic behind the focus ring and bonded a 5mm strip of the same material to the actual focus ring itself so that I can manually focus the lens more easily. I tried a cable tie but the nub gets lost because the lens is a focus by wire design. For video work, the AF is silent, except when using onboard microphones in a silent room. It behaves well with the AF drive speed and Tracking duration on the A6000. I'm excited to see how it works on the A6300.
I absolutely love this lens! This lens has not come off my camera since I first took it out of its packaging. Focal length is subjective, but for me, this lens effectively renders compositional framing right in my sweet spot (effectively, 28mm-30mm). The lens handles well. And, the hood that so many so roundly criticize, I find to be a useful and welcome included accessory. Image quality with this lens is very much to my liking, and this lens captures images with a signature look to them, especially when used wide open. Sharpness is impressive - the lens is very sharp, but not clinically so. Focus response is super fast. When shot at the widest aperture of f/2.8, the images taken with this lens exhibit a pronounce vignetting. I love this look and so I shoot this ... MoreI absolutely love this lens! Sharpness is impressive - the lens is very sharp, but not clinically so. Focus response is super fast. When shot at the widest aperture of f/2.8, the images taken with this lens exhibit a pronounce vignetting. I love this look and so I shoot this lens, nearly exclusively, wide open, to get it. My rating is five stars, because this has become my go to lens on my NEX-6 and A6000. Honestly, when I got this lens, I mounted it on the NEX-6, and it has not come off since; I also have very rarely shot the A6000 since then. The A6000 has a Sony FE 28mm f/2 lens, which is also a great lens. For those who want to avoid vignetting and a signature look, perhaps another lens would be better. As for me, I like a lens with some character, and this one has it in spades!
I purchased the Sony E 20mm f/2.8 to use on my A7RV in APS-C Mode (26MP). I have tested and evaluates this lens on my A7RV, wide open and other apertures and find it to be sharp across the frame and good in the corners. This lens on my A7RV makes a great walk around combo. With the lens sharpness / sensor resolution at 26MP gives lots of latitude for post process cropping. This has become one of my favorite setups.
First of all, do not listen to people or reviews who say this lens isnt sharp. Theyre wrong. All you have to do is look at sample images on Flickr. If your concern with this lens is sharpness dont worry about it. Not only is this lens sharp the micro contrast is surprisingly good for a cheap Sony lens. The 28mm full frame equivalent is my favorite focal length. This lens is 20mm which on an APS-C camera is 30mm. That extra 2 mm of telephoto is absolutely wonderful. The difference is minor but its still so so versatile. The perfect in between lens. For everyday use this lens doesnt leave my A6000. I only take it off when I want to do portraits. Sony E 20mm F/2.8 is a crop sense for APSC camera, but when you put it on a full frame A7C2 it became 30mm, and perfect combination for street photography and very compact for travel. It deserves to raise a thumb up. This copy is the cheapest one I can find. The seller throws in a soft case and that is a bonus.
I've only had the lens one day, but testing on some real life subjects showed great promise for the price. One problem, the lens hood is completely stuck in place and refuses any attempt to loosen it. Sill wondering where the second red index mark is.
I'm sure just like everyone else they are looking for a 100v but it's no where to and found.. so this is my alternative to scratch that itch. I really wanted something compact and tiny on my A7iii so that I can carry around and just point and shoot.I currently have ir in the creative style of portrait and I just leave it on jpegs and whatever it shoots that's what I get. It's been an amazing little let's shooting at 30mn on a full frame it's pretty darn close to a 35mm I know you can get a great 35 for the same price maybe even less but I really wanted that size of literally nothing great little lens having tons of fun
