I use this lense to shoot shoulder mounted interviews, wide shots, corporate activity, events etc. sometimes in quite low light. This lense has an excellent clear picture throughout the zoom range and nice shallow depth of field if you feel the need to create this. Even being F4 - not the fastest - it picks up plenty of light for my purposes. Looking forward to trying it with a brand new A6300 too. The Steady Shot means I can do without a tripod more often. The only weird thing which takes some getting used to is the servo zoom which is still very smooth but feels totally different to a mechanical zoom ring. This is also excellent value for money.

Theres a lot packed into this lens! First, the zoom range is amazing and covers pretty much everything I would want in one lens for handheld use. The OSS helps keeps things steady and the power zoom is great for video work, especially when paired with a camera with a zoom switch like the FX30.It's small and light for such a varied focal length but the metal build stops it from feeling cheap. The zoom is internal which I definitely prefer over extending barrels with the zoom and focus rings being nicely dampened and smooth to use. Constant F4 aperture is a god send as I don't really like variable aperture zooms, fair enough if it's f2 to 2.8 like the tamron 35mm-150mm but not something naff like F4 to 7.1 (I'm looking at you canon!)Lastly, image quality and I ... MoreTheres a lot packed into this lens! I wasn't expected too much but I'v managed to get some truly beautiful shots with this and the F30, enough to make both clients and myself happy. I use this for video work so keep that in mind if you are planning for photography but at this pice you really cant go wrong if you are looking for a nice 'all in one lens'

I bought this lens used from a well-known auction site shortly after purchasing my a6100. It was the first lens I bought (not counting the kit lens) and it has been onoe of my most-used lenses ever since. It is easily sharp enough for the 24Mp sensor in my a6400 (I upgraded) and the zoom range is perfect for casual photography. It focuses nice and close, allowing some lovely shots of flowers and the like, and of course at the wide end it is useful for landscape or street photography. The only downside is the bulk, it is big and heavy for what it does, but not so much as to be uncomfortable to carry.

This zoom lens is the epitome of jack of all trades (and sadly also the master of none). It's wide angle for landscape, long enough to shoot some* sports and portraiture, power zoom and constant aperture for video, all wrapped up in a solid body.Issues with this lens are fairly severe distortion at wide and tele focal lengths, a not bad but not great f4 aperture, and it's a little heavy and bulky.But....if you just want to buy one lens for your Sony APS-C mirrorless, this is the lens. And, as a jack of all trades, this lens excels. Only Sony's 18-135mm lens comes close to this one's versatility for the price and I'll take the better build quality and constant aperture any day.If you don't know what lens to buy, buy this one. This lens is definitely a step up from the typical kit lens. Have yet to review all photos taken with the lens over the last month (trip to London) but I'm happy with what I have seen there are many shots that are good enough without working over the raw files (something I almost always have to do with the kit lens - I always shoot raw+jpg). The amount of focal range was great took it to museums and parks worked well at both, I managed okay with the f4 max aperture in dark places with the a6000's anti shake/blur/dim light program. The lens itself seems big on the a6000, and has a little weight not great for around the neck all day but not bad for a few hours. The lens itself seems big on the a6000, and has a little weight not great for around the neck all day but not bad for a few hours. The price of the lens here is consistent with other sellers (watch out for international lenses as they lack warranty) and from my own research & use this is a good all around lens for aps-c based sony mirrorless cameras. There are a few cons: the a6000 built in flash will not work well with this lens (I was aware of this before buying).Shutter seems awfully loud especially noticeable with any sort of burst shooting. Can be annoying in museums (a few irritated looks in photography friendly museums). For the extras (your not paying extra for them so why not):bundled cleaning kit is good (best I've had in a bundle packable). Lens filters undecided ended up removing the polarized as it seemed to provide little to no benefit for glare and color, For the software I've always wanted to try corel's photo software as I hate adobe's subscription setup. It won't replace my go to but I would rate it as usable but feels cluttered (cs6 is my current go to). The raw editor seems to have limited camera presets didn't go into program very far though (ACR is my current go to). Everything else I would personally class as bloatware. Lastly I had a little trouble with the software keys, and took a few emails before the provider (a third party I think) was able/willing to sort it out but they did in the end.
Initial reaction was favourable. Excellent speed and accuracy of focus and crisp image, but, and it's a massive one, there was intermittent issue causing selective vignetting to top left corner of frame only. All apertures, at any short focal length. Like something was sticking. Returned it. Not going to risk another. Disappointing qc. Will probably stick with kit lens on my a6000, and carry on lugging a DSLR for anything beyond that.
I bought this with my Sony A6000 camera as an addition to a Sony prime lens. I wanted a versatile zoom, that is sharp, easy to focus and not too large. You can use other third party lenses, but I wanted Sony's inbuilt stabilisation, which works so well. This lens does a great job of capture, the focus is quick, and in low light it also performs really well. Of course, its not quite as sharp as a prime, but this lens will not let you down. Its also quite wide angle too, I have used it for landscape shots, making it very versatile. It will be my day to day go to lens when travelling.
This is pretty much my dream lens for video: versatile zoom range with two different zoom controls, constant F4 aperture, built-in stabilization, silent operation, great image quality and auto-focusing, comfortable to operate on the a6400, and should balance easily if I ever get a gimbal since the barrel does not extend at all when zooming. The protective lens hood (included) has saved me twice already. F2.8 would have been nice but the low-light sensitivity of the a6400 compensates reasonably well for its lack. Bokeh is still good zoomed in or slightly wide with a close subject. The free lens cleaning kit is also great to have; however the free lens wrap is way too bulky to be useful for me and would take up most of the space in my camera bag.
I bought this lens along with the Sony A6300 mirrorless camera as a first-time purchase since moving on from a bridge camera. Took ages a while back reasearching making a decision so as to make the best choice, mistakingly choosing another more expensive Panasonic FZ1000 Bridge on route, two of them having to be returned. The lens on such Panasonics was dreadful in terms of build quality and was what caused me to quickly appreciate that you have to pay more for a quality camera and lens.So my experience had me jump again and went mirrorless buying this lens which for my first sojourn into such lenses I am thoroughly impressed. The beautiful smooth zooming is a delight particularly for video and with constant f4 you have no exposure re-adjustments to make during the transition.Unlike the FZ1000 lense the Sony is solidly built, you can just feel it in your hands, that builds a sense of confidence in the lens that has only grown with use. I am unlikely to buy other lenses for my Sony A6300 camera, as I don't see myself as that type of photographer, Part of the reason is the facilities on this lens like the FL of 18-105mm (157mm full frame equivalent) along with the camera make for a fantastic combination of quality that is unlikely to have them separated in our household.Moving from long 25x zooms of bridge cameras I realised the number of times you actually take such long high-zoom images eventually is rare. Hence the 8x zoom of this camera is more than adequate with the Sony A6300 camera allowing me a smooth seemless transition to another 4x digital zoom anyway (32x in total) in the rare occassions I might need it, and still leaving me a quality 6M image. One last thing I never appreciated till I got it, the lens does not extend when you zoom, which is great. Yes it stcks out a bit further than other lenses as a consequence of that charactaristic, but it is balanced in the hand and that balance remains throughout the zoom.I love the lens after the huge learning curve to get to mirrorless, will never look back now.
Much better focal length range than standard length and amazed with the apature being constant F4 through out focal length. Picture very clear and sharp. Only small drawback is the shadow of the lens if the in built camera flash is used.
