The 10x zoom range allows this one lens to cover an extensive variety of shooting situations, making it ideal for travel where reducing luggage is a priority, for landscapes, architecture, snapshots, portraits, and much more. Switch between wide angle and telephoto without having to change lenses, so more of those fleeting moments will be captured. Advanced optics effectively subdue aberration while achieving high resolution throughout the image area, and a precision linear motor drives focus for quick, smooth response. Handheld telephoto shots and low-light photography are facilitated by built-in Optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization, and the design is dust and moisture resistant for reliable operation in challenging conditions. This lens is in excellent condition with only the lightest signs of use. The optics are clean and clear with no marks or scratches. There is an extremely minor amount of dust within the lens. The lens barrel shows only the lightest cosmetic marks. The focus ring is smooth and in great condition. The lens mount is in good condition.

I started out with Nikon and over the years built myself up to pro spec glass across all focal lengths (including a 500mm F4) but early last year I decided to move to Sony for MS (I had already made the jump to Sony for my landscape work in 2016) and have not looked back. I have two A9 bodies and got the amazing 200–600mm at the start of the year that blew me away. The lens is used for panning and nothing else and for that purpose it serves me very well (bearing in mind that I’m using it on an A9). I am sure that if I was using a 70-200mm 2.8 (which I had in my Nikon setup) there would be slightly more punch and sharpness to the image but the weight gain would negate it for me.If there are any negatives I would say that having a steady shot switch would be a bonus (leave it switched off in the camera menu if you are panning) and I wish that the zooming action was smoother but that’s about it!I am coming back from a days shooting with so many more keepers than I used to with my Nikon set up and have probably lost half of the weight (maybe more), which matters a lot when you are at a race track. I find myself wondering around more as everything is in one rucksack and easy to carry. As I said, I am a happy bunny.

Best All-Round Sony E-Mount Lens for Beginners

The Sony 24-240mm lens is the best all-round full-frame lens you can buy. Thirty years ago when I started photography as a hobby, my first lens was a Tamron 28-200mm lens, and it seemed to me at that time to be the ideal lens for someone starting out. The Sony 24-200 is an even more versatile lens with its longer zoom range. Now the Sony lens is NOT a low-light lens, so if you plan to shoot in low light conditions you will want a lens with at least an aperture of f2.8 or faster.

I had been looking for a super-zoom lens for a while mostly for the convenience of only having to carry the one lens and not having to stop and change lenses. This one is perfect for that. The range it offers is fantastic, plenty wide enough for most landscape shots and able to zoom right in for things in the distance as well. I don’t think there is anything else available for Sony full frame cameras with a wider range. While looking around I read a lot of reviews and was a bit concerned that some of them weren’t impressed with the image quality, but I haven’t found any problems. I do have some prime lenses that are sharper, but I find this one is plenty sharp enough for most normal situations and can even make some pleasant out of focus backgrounds when zoomed in. ... MoreI had been looking for a super-zoom lens for a while mostly for the convenience of only having to carry the one lens and not having to stop and change lenses. The fact that the lens folds down when zoomed out helps to make it easier to carry, though it is a little on the heavy side.

Good And Bad

I purchased this lens with very high hopes as I wanted a travel lens with a good focal range. I primarily do travel and landscape photography and don't like changing lenses a lot. I had seen in several videos that the newer lenses for today's mirrorless cameras are crazy sharp.I'll start with the positives:- Very well constructed, heavy lens- Great wide angle focal range- Very fast zoomNegatives:- Images look good at 25% on screen in Photoshop and Lightroom but when zoomed in to 100% very soft focus and not much detail.I sent this lens back and opted for a 70-200 f/2.8 lens for my general use lens. There is a drawback to this lens which is it is a fairly heavy lens at just over 3 pounds. I'll take the extra weight to get the tack sharp images I want. I really wanted this to be a great all-around lens but in the end, like the saying goes, you get what you pay for.Sony's marketing department for sure knows where to draw the dividing line and it clearly shows in image quality. If you're doing any kind of professional work and want tack sharp images you have to pony up the extra cash and get the G line of lenses with f/2.8 or better.I'll have to see how this works out and whether I'll need to get the 16-35mm f/2.8 G series lens to cover the focal lengths below 70mm but that's yet to be determined. Have to save up the over $2 grand for that one for a while.

Good quality, but zoom ring is too tight
14 October 2021

The product is great in terms of versatility, giving an excellent range from wide to telephoto. For the 6000 series this represents an effective 36-360mm.The build quality of the lens is very good and feels pretty robust, with the only downside being the zoom ring. It is so tight, that when you change direction of turn the lens will move slightly on the mount. I have tried other copies of the lens and this was consistent across multiple lenses. For me this was a deal breaker as I found the effort required to adjust zoom was causing camera shake, particularly when zoomed in to the 200-240 mm range. I would advise trying this at a retail store to make sure you are OK with the zoom ring before purchase.Image quality is very good, though there is some loss of ... MoreThe product is great in terms of versatility, giving an excellent range from wide to telephoto. Long Term Report
9 June 2023

I reviewed this lens when I first received it a couple of years back, giving it 4 stars. After a few years of use I have to say I'm very disappointed with it, in fact, I've pretty much quit using it altogether in favor of the kit 28-70 which is far superior for both focus and sharpness. Focus, the main thing I need out of a lens, is very poor across the range and almost nonexistent with a polarizer. And, I've learned after correcting too many images, that, when zoomed in with Photoshop, it's sharpness is spotty across the range. I've changed my mind about my initial 4 star rating. I'm going to get rid of it.

Manage your expectations

I bought this lens for a somewhat specific use scenario. I wanted a one lens only day time kit for a vacation to Japan. I shoot RAW+JPEG and mostly use the JPEGs unless I get a really great shot. For my use, I think it's going to be more than good enough. Sure, it's not the sharpest lens in the world but, it's sharp enough on my a7IV to keep me happy. The autofocus tech is most definitely dated but, again, good enough for me. This lens is a masterpiece for a hobbyist like myself. I likely wouldn't take any better pictures with a bag full of GMs and I'm okay with that. I halfway expected this lens to be awful and it's not, I'm genuinely happy I picked it up. All that being said, professional photographers, pixel peepers, and others demanding the highest performance ... MoreI bought this lens for a somewhat specific use scenario. bought this lens with my a7rii back in december 2018 and still using it no problem. ive used this lens for absolutely everything in virtually any condition. Practical and flexible glass

I had some hesitation purchasing this lens due to the so-so reviews and caveats, which is frankly par for the course when it comes to superzoom lenses. Admittedly this is not a tack-sharp prime nor a $3000 f/2.8 telephoto, but what it does uniquely offer is 10x zoom functionality. If you want to take 1 single lens and dont know what awaits you, this is the lens to take. Its an especially well-suited lens for those zoo/aquarium/Disney days with the family, where theres ample sunlight and lots of near/far action and where changing lenses would be a hassle/impractical. Once the sun sets, I recommend mounting smaller/faster glass for sure. The lens body is solid and feels well built, but beyond a zoom and focus ring, its a minimal experience. Photos are just fine at most focal lengths, but at 100% zoom they wont be prime perfection all the time, as you might expect for a superzoom. You can pull some portrait bokeh at 200mm f/6.3, but this isnt the best for that use. The lens weighs 2 pounds itself, but when youve got full-frame glass, most zooms tend to be pretty weighty. On a final note, the retail cost of this - scratching $1000, is extreme. I found mine lightly used for about $600, and for that price, its a much easier, fairer purchase.

Sony 24-240mm lens

This is an excellent lens to start with for the Sony A7IV camera. You have sufficient range to shoot wide and take telephotos. The lens is lightweight. It isn't as fast as the F2.8 or F1.8 type of lenses, but that isn't an issue for outside photos which are my primary interest. The filters provided are both of good build quality. I would recommend this lens to anyone changing to a mirrorless camera.
