I purchased this lens along with an A7iii. The autofocus with this set set up is nothing short of astonishing! Using the eye focus feature I took some environmental portraits of my kids on a hike. I was impressed with the speed of the autofocus but knew the real test would be looking at the photos in Lightroom. After reviewing them I am so happy with this lens and camera. The 24-70 2.8 GM lens is sharper than any lens I have ever shot with including mid range 50mm 1.8 lenses on multiple platforms including Sony, Nikon, and Cannon.Of the features I appreciate are the locking lens hood which locks both in the installed position as well as the storage position, requiring a gentle press of an unlocking button. This prevents one of my frustrations with other lenses of the hood being a serious draw back to an otherwise great lens. The zoom lock and the included case are also features I appreciate. This is NOT a small lens! I was prepared for the size of this lens having shot the Cannon and Nikon equivants, but with the small body size of the A7iii I was not ready for the imbalance. I ordered the Vello grip which helps with the small grip size of the A7iii with this large lens.My 1 sincere concern is that I may have spoiled myself for lesser lenses. As an amateur/hobbyist I dont NEED G-Master level lenses but the wow factor is making me seriously consider staying with these lenses.Overall I would highly reccomend this lens to anyone considering investing in good glass, but strongly encourage you to inform yourself as to the size. A battery grip also seems to me a neccessary accessory for this great lens on A7 series bodies.

My main issue was that the lens was an open box and had more damage than what should be considered as excellent condition. I don't think it was mechanically flawed but it was visibly damaged. That was my main reason for returning the lens but it's barely better than my kit lens. The restocking fee was more than a rental of the G Master 2.8 from borrowed lenses for a week. That's the first restocking fee that I've had to pay but it's going to affect my purchasing habits moving forward. I buy random things that I don't know if I need or not because I can return it if it's defective or not a fit for what I intended to use it for even though more often than not, I end up keeping whatever I buy. Now, I'm not so sure. I basically lost $150 and didn't have the lens 2 days. ... MoreMy main issue was that the lens was an open box and had more damage than what should be considered as excellent condition. I could've rented one for 2 weeks from borrowed lenses. If you're not 100% sure you want it, find a store with a better return policy. Not trying to give borrowed lenses any business because I honestly don't see the value you in renting camera equipment unless you're a professional and will make more than enough to justify the fees. Purchase new and make sure it's exactly what you want before you buy it. You don't want to spend money and get nothing in return. First time buying open box. If they kept a restocking fee from the first person they sold it to, they've made over $260 and still have the lens for sale at probably only $40 or $50 less than regular price. If they've sold it more than that, they're just passing around a lens that they know will get returned only to keep getting restocking fees.

I purchased this to cover my range up to 70 mm and it does not disappoint. I do a lot of low light photography and the shadows and colors I'm able to pull out of this have been nothing less than fantastic. The dynamic range is sharp and crispy, especially when you get into the f/4 to f/11 ranges and the focus is nice and sharp. Highly recommended, it's the Sony GM quality that we have come to expect.

Purchased as a replacement for my a-mount Sony Carl Zeiss 24-70mm f2.8 Vario-Sonnar, because of the cashback and price match deal on offer. I had been using the a-mount on my a8iv via the LA-EA5 adapter and that was fine, but with this deal I decided to go for the native e-mount, with the added bonus of weather proof construction. early days, but it feels similar in use, and is delivering fine image quality. Main drawback is weight but it is in fact 70gm lighter than the Carl Zeiss, and around 200gm lighter that that lens with the adapter. I did think whether I should buy the Mark 2 version that is a new optical design, considerably smaller and lighter, but felt the extra cost wasn't worth it.
Amazing, fair prices, excellent communication, super quick shipping. The lens was in perfect condition. I love renting through lens rentals - it is the perfect solution to trying out a very expensive price of equipment before purchasing it (which you can also do right through lens rentals). The sharpness of the lens was amazing and i able to use it for 4 booked weddings before deciding if I wanted to purchase or not. Thank you!
Just finished another great rental from Lensrentals.com- As a commercial photographer, I am always impressed with how the company is dedicated to the quality of their packaging from inside and out. The lens comes well protected in a pelican style case and your shipping label and extra tape are neatly tucked in well designed return envelope. I used to think the extra tape provided was not necessary…until that day when you are on location and racing back to FedEx and have no tape to seal the package before the last pickup! Brilliant. Will always continue to support Lensrentals…thank you.
This is my first lens in the GM Series, I've only used it a few times, but the quality of the lens is outstanding, however I do own other Sony Lenses as well. This GM Lens can be used for the following:VideoFoodReal Estate 'Interior & Exterior'WeddingsLandscapesAstroHeadshotsEventsSony has a lot of lenses for the type of work you do, but this one Sony 24-70mm F2.8 GM is one of the best lens you can have in your bag, that will cover the most type of work you're doing and/or something new that you wanna get into. This lens is a bit heavy, but I don't mind that at all, the only reason why I'm even mentioning it is because I use a Gimbal and would like other Gimbal users to know that, especially for the ones who are looking to buy this lens and are ... MoreThis is my first lens in the GM Series, I've only used it a few times, but the quality of the lens is outstanding, however I do own other Sony Lenses as well. This lens is a bit heavy, but I don't mind that at all, the only reason why I'm even mentioning it is because I use a Gimbal and would like other Gimbal users to know that, especially for the ones who are looking to buy this lens and are doing their research. This lens will work on a gimbal, but you'd have to decide at what focal length you're gonna be at, because you'd need to balance it.If you can afford it through finance, then you should. This lens won't disappoint you.I hope this review helps you in deciding if you should or shouldn't go for this lens, but once again this lens will cover the type of work you're currently doing at the moment.I've given this GM Lens a 10/10 Score.HAPPY SHOOTING :-)
I purchased a brand new Sony lens from JB Hi-Fi and am using it with a brand new A7R5 camera. I'm noticing a sharpness issue in the images captured, especially when compared to my Nikon 5500 with an 18-55 lens, which is surprisingly sharper. I contacted customer service and they're asking for a fee to check and service the product, even if no fault is found. This is quite surprising given that the product is new and under Australian Consumer Law warranty. It's disappointing to experience this lack of support from Sony after purchasing an expensive product.
Absolutely horrible lens. I sold my Tamron 28-75 G2 to purchase this lens and ended up taking it back. Terrible lens flare and vignette when shooting in the sun. I never had that problem with Tamron. I shoot tons of sunsets and have never had a problem until using that GM. It should be a crime to sell a lens for 1500 that doesn’t even perform properly.
Wonderful short zoom lens. I debated this or the 24-105 G lens. They are both excellent. This lens originally retailed for about $1,200…. And it shows. Zeiss T* glass has that certain ‘something’ (similar to Leica, which I also own).. images pop thanks to the microcontrast, colors, and overall rendering. My Sony A1 is a great test too for this lens’ resolving power and I have yet to find any issues there even though this lens was designed back when single digit and low-teen megalixel sensors were state of the art. The 24-105 G is a fantastic lens also; technically it is more sophisticated and more advanced. But this 24-70 Zeiss/Sony is tiny in comparison and looks more like one of my primes.
