It is HDMI eARC or bluetooth connected. It has great surround sound technology to support Dolby Atmos and DTS-X. The remote control is easy to use and adjust your sound experience. Set up is incredibly easy and handled through Sony's Home Entertainment app, which also lets you control your sound settings as well. It just sounds great, I tried it with some 4K movies and some games on my PS5 and I was really happy with what I was hearing. Also, one thing that doesnt get mentioned is packaging, I like the reusable boxing for the soundbar. It might sound dumb, but I have moved enough times and I hate trying to pack long or large electronics into cube boxes and being worried they'll be damaged, having packaging that can be saved for later and reused is nice. Now before you think this is just a positive review there was one annoying issue with the HT-S2000. Sony claims that HT-S2000 can pair with its home theater add-ons like the Sony SA-SW3, SA-SW5 subwoofers and, SA-RS3S rear speakers, to really take your home theater experience to another level. I have found this to be a half truth. I have an SA-SW3 sub and a pair of SA-RS3S rear speakrs for my main home theater set up with my HT-A5000. In trying to pair them to test out their claim, the HT-S2000 would let me pair one of the devices, but not both, if I did the sub the rear speakers would be disconnected and vice-versa. My guess is that because of the internal sub there is a complication with trying to connect a second external sub and rear speakers and still have all the sound control be seperate in the app. Maybe I made a mistake on my end or maybe it needs an update patch I'm not sure, its not a big enough issue for me to dislike the soundbar at all bit it was something I found and thought should be known. The issue wasn't really big enough for me to really even dislike it a little.Overall, the Sony HT-S2000 is awesome and I love it. Its my new soundbar for my 2nd TV and I've even recommended it as an excellent choice for a starter soundbar becaue of its design and sound.

The soundbar market may be the most competitive market in the home theater industry at this time. I remember my first Dolby Atmos soundbar, an expensive 4-piece kit that came with upfiring wireless satellites, a wireless sub, and a giant soundbar with upward-firing speakers. Man, did it sound amazing, kicking a large 8-speaker home theater system with a giant receiver to the curb. Over the years, soundbars have varied greatly in size and capability. Having owned several Sony Soundbars over the last couple of years (my current main room setup is an A5000 with LRS5 wireless surrounds and a SW5 wireless sub - an absolutely fantastic setup), I was excited to review the S2000.The S2000 is a smaller, chic version of the A5000 that currently graces my main room. The S2000 does not have upward-firing woofers for Atmos, but claims to create Atmos and DTS-X effects through the use of DSP (Vertical Surround Engine). The S2000 is a 3.1 channel soundbar, the .1 due to a built-in dual sub. Looking at the inputs, the S2000 does not have much to mention. Just an e-ARC HDMI input, an optical input in case you don't have HDMI, and bluetooth. It would have been nice to see Wifi on the unit, so at least one could stream music from iTunes or Spotify, but nope, not happening.Sony also notes that the S2000 can work with their series of wireless surround and subwoofer speakers, and that they can be added easily through the app (Home Entertainment Connect). I happened to have a pair of RS3S wireless surrounds and a SW5 wireless subwoofer at my house, which I did connect to the S2000 after initial testing. More on that later.Setup was easy. I took the S2000 to my master bedroom, plugged the HDMI cable into the back of my TV, selected e-ARC on the TV menu, plugged the S2000 into power, and started watching TV. I streamed several shows in regular Dolby, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos, and PCM. Sound was okay... PCM sounded tinny and voices were hard to hear. Dolby was definitely more defined and enjoyable. I switched the Soundfield mode on and off, watched a variety of content, and came away with the feeling that while the Soundfield mode did change the sound, I couldn't decide if it really made the sound bigger, or "taller" like it was simulating Atmos effects. The quality of the sound was pleasant enough, but I felt like voices were muffled and I had to use the Voice mode to hear anything during busy scenes. And with Voice mode switched on, other parts of the soundtracks were diminished. The bass was okay, definitely better than what came out of the TV speakers, but the TV speakers sounded clearer than the soundbar in some cases (particularly with PCM sources). The S2000 got decently loud, but there is only so much you can do with such a small box.To be honest, I've been more impressed by less expensive soundbars. To see how the S2000 would sound with a complete set up, i.e., satellites and a sub, I connected the RS3S speakers and the SW5 sub using the Home Entertainment Connect app. This system did sound good. Sound was definitely more enveloping and the bass was fuller (to be expected, the SW5 costs more than the S2000).But here is the caveat. Someone looking to mate the S2000 with surround speakers and a sub can find themselves spending a lot of money. The RS3S speakers are 300 dollars, the SW5 is 700 dollars and the S2000 itself is 500 dollars. That is 1500 dollars for a system that only simulates Atmos... Even if you bought the cheaper SW3 for 400 dollars, you're still looking at 1200 dollars for a surround setup that doesn't officially do Atmos or WiFi.On the other hand, you can buy soundbar systems that come with upward-firing drivers, wireless speakers, and WiFi connectivity for the same amount. As a standalone soundbar, I feel the S2000 is best suited for small rooms and small-scale listening. Expanding to surrounds and a wireless sub definitely adds to the scale of sound, but also costs quite a bit of money. I give the S2000 on its own a 3 out of 5 stars.

Connections include, one HDMI eARC input, one Optical input, one USB connection and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. What is most important is the quality of the sound. I’m using just the S2000 sound bar and the sound while watching movies and TV shows is exceptional and far better than I would have expected. Depending on what you are watching you can change the sound fields/modes to enhance the sound quality. The remote has input, power, sound fields, voice for helping to enhance the voice on programs, volume up and down, Night to reduce bass while using during nighttime viewing and mute.I have been so impressed with the quality of the sound and the ease of setup and use of the S2000. For the small footprint that this sound bar takes up, it is an outstanding addition to my bedroom set up and I highly recommend it.

Easy Setup and Exceptional Sound Quality

This soundbar can put out a lot of volume, making it ideal for larger rooms. The Sony HT-S2000 also sounds great when playing music. However, I noticed it was lacking a bit of low end, which could be remedied by adding a subwoofer to the setup. Doing so can make the system feel more high-end and provide a more immersive listening experience. Additionally, rear speakers could be added to the system to make it an even more captivating, surround sound listening experience.Mounting the soundbar onto the TV is easy thanks to the rear keyholes. I was able to mount it to my TV with a universal soundbar mount without issue. However, a potential negative I found is that the power adapter is not integrated into the soundbar, so users will need to deal with a power brick in line with the power cable. This can make it difficult to hide the cable in a wall channel. On other soundbars I have used, this was integrated into the soundbar and the whole length of the AC cable was able to be ran through a cable raceway.Overall, the Sony HT-S2000 is a great soundbar for anyone looking for a simple setup and good sound quality. While it may require a subwoofer to reach its full potential, the dialogue clarity and volume output make it a worthwhile investment.

I really wanted to love this Sony soundbar as I have had good to great experiences with Sony products in the past from soundbars to Bluetooth speakers and buds. No mounting screws which was disappointing, no clear instructions and a very conspicuous QR code on the paperwork needed to download the Sony Home Theatre App. I was searching for this mentioned app from the paperwork forever in different app stores and unsuccessful links. Finally after finding the QR code and downloading the app I could actually get a real feel for what this soundbar was capable of. Now let me back up real quick, the reason I sound kind of despondent is because I was expecting this Sony soundbar to be plug and play ready which to some degree it is. But, I plugged it in connected the arc hdmi connections and powered up the sounbar…. It took an extended amount of time for this thing to register my tv and start playing sound. It just kept displaying “Please Wait” with a blinking blue led. Ok, so I’m waiting for about 15-20 seconds before any action. Once the soundbar connected and sent out the great spectrum of lows and highs with clear voice from my tv I was impressed as I thought I would be from a Sony product. Now a speed bump, I start adjusting the volume with my tv remote and the sound cuts out as I change the volume level and then takes a second and starts producing great sounds again. So I think that it may be interference from my tv remote so I try the included remote and same thing happens. It starts to become really annoying having the sound cut out when I’m trying to adjust to get the desired level. Ok, Bluetooth test… and yes, quick connect to iphone seamlessly and great sounds! I adjust the volume with my phone volume rocker and with the included remote, no interruption so I’m happy. This soundbar produces full range of pleasurable lows, mids, highs, in a cinematic setting good for a small home theatre. From the online specs and accessories you can pair with satellite rear speakers and subwoofer that I am sure will increase the already great sounds produced from this soundbar. I am just not sure of the price point for this setup. But if you are looking for powerful output in a small form factor, this Sony soundbar gets super loud, well enough for any small to large living room setting.I do like the fact that it is easily wall mountable with an included wall template for the screw placement, but for the price, you would think the mounting hardware would be included, it’s not.Now the Sony Home Theatre Connect app, it’s not easily found on app stores, you have to go to the website if you find the correct link, but there is a QR code randomly placed on the quick setup paperwork. I wish I would have found this and downloaded the app first because it made it so much easier a straightforward when setting up. The app is nice and includes all the fine tuning settings you will need to get your desired sound as the included remote just has basic controls. The app also allows you to use your phone as a remote and control Bluetooth playlists. Overall, this soundbar is built very nice, produces full range of sound with ample volume, it just has a few hiccups with sound adjustment that hinders a five star review. Primarily the volume adjustment that gets interrupted when changing levels while watching v. I cant seem to figure this out yet and not sure if it is a compatibility issue with my tv brand or what…

Impressive sound from such a small sound bar!

Right out of the (recycled and sustainable packaging) box, the Sony S2000 has impressive stats, and a small form that nestles underneath a Sony Bravia TV just nicely.Opening that box, you get the sound bar, the power supply, a remote and an HDMI cable, all that you need to get the sound bar up and running quickly. Connected quickly, displayed my phone name on the small display on the right below the mesh of the front grill. The sound was decent, but erring on the 'ok' side of things. Turning it up provided some more bass, but it wasn't an 'amazing' experience right out of the box.I then hooked up the sound bar to my Sony Bravia TV with eARC and played some Dolby Atmos soundtracks to test out the full capability of the sound bar. And also connected to the afore mentioned app.The sound bar is equipped with 3.1 channels, Dolby Atmos, DTS X, it has a vertical sound engine and S-Force PRO Front Surround as well. Playing the first clip, and sitting directly in front of the sound bar, in a room with 25ft ceilings, the sound really did envelop me, I was really surprised. It did a great job of throwing some of the sound behind me and also felt like sound was coming at me from all sides. Sound that was supposed to go over my head actually did feel like that.It was a great experience for such a small sound bar, and I can only imagine what it's like if you add the optional subwoofer and satellite speakers (both of which have a QR code to scan on top of the sound bar box to make it easy to upgrade your kit).Overall, if you are looking for a great sounding sound bar for watching movies, TV shows and the like, then I can definitely recommend this Sony S2000. However, if you are looking for a bluetooth speaker to primarily play music, then this may not be the one for you, it sounds good, but not great in that realm, but it is truly designed for an immersive movie experience, which it achieves hands down.Of note, I did connect the sound bar to one of my other Sony Bravia TVs that does NOT have eARC. The sound is decent, BUT, you cannot switch between other inputs and utilize the sound bar, as there is only one HDMI port on the sound bar, and without the eARC connection, you can't switch between inputs.

Indeed, Samsung has done a good job achieving those desired characteristics with The Frame’s ability to recreate framed art work or photography when not being an active television. We purchased The Frame about 3 years ago, as we were remodeling our downstairs. We wanted a television that did not present a gaudy presence, perched onto a wall mount sticking out into the room. Indeed, Samsung has done a good job achieving those desired characteristics with The Frame’s ability to recreate framed art work or photography when not being an active television. So to keep with that discrete ethic, a minimalist sound system to go with the television seemed appropriate. The Sony has filled that wish nicely. The system arrived in a highly protective box, but without the usual plethora of plastic. The interior dividers were recyclable paperboard, and the envelope wrappers were also paper. It was quite refreshing not to have to cringe at mountains of styrofoam. It took about 15 minutes to add it to the system. The Frame has a separate command center box that connects to the TV with a single slender cable. The HDMI inputs are on this box, inside the credenza beneath the TV. Being a recent model, it has a eARC designated HDMI plug input.Prior to receiving the Sony soundbar I had read in the Samsung manual to confirm I had the eARC input. Samsung cautioned that the HDMI cable needed to be eARC capable, and the Sony came with an appropriate such cable. The other TVs in the home, all Sony, were more vintage and lacked eARC labeled HDMI ports. The setup was totally automatic when using the downloaded Sony Home Entertainment Connect app. The app found the soundbar promptly, linked to it via Bluetooth, and integrated it into my system.A small remote control came with the Sony, but I found the control for my Apple TV worked the volume of the Sony, so one less remote to have to juggle. I do not anticipate that I’ll use the Sony iPhone app or the separate remote control very often, since the remote for the AppleTV handles the volume, which is what you are mostly adjusting. There is behind the grille cloth on the right side of the soundbar a light up commentary dialog of your current settings or status. A nice touch, and discrete.Options for adding a subwoofer or a pair of rear speakers were offered during the setup, but I skipped them for now, keeping a minimalist kit for our small abode. A separate true subwoofer, rather than the claimed “subwoofers” would be a nice addition, but would add to the price and footprint in our small space.I switched on Apple Music app from the AppleTV choices, and opted for a classical playlist, to sample the full spectrum of sound. I was not disappointed; the sound quality was crisp and spacious. Although the built in speakers of the Samsung have been acceptable, this was a definite improvement. The Sony has two “subwoofers” built in, three front speakers, and a center channel designed specifically for dialog. Surround sound technology via Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X® are both built in to the system. From the AppleTV, music via Apple Music is immediately available, and the Sony accepts inputs via Bluetooth from your phone, laptop, tablet, or any USB connected device via inputs on the Soundbar. There is also an optical input port available on the Soundbar, but I did not use that.Wall mounting template is included, and seems to be straightforward, but we are positioning instead to sit on the credenza beneath the television. What I noticed most prominently is the audible .clarity, without distortion of dialog, even with the volume turned up.In summary, this is in my opinion a great system for those with limited space, wishing a smaller system and less obtrusive presence in the living room, and perhaps in an apartment or condo where neighbors sharing walls would appreciate less booming bass.

Premium Sound, but Lacking Features
26 April 2023

Soundbars are probably my favorite way of getting quality audio from my TVs without complex wiring setups. I tend to be picky with my audio setups - I'm not an audiophile, but I know the difference between having a clear sound stage and having a muddy mess for my audio output. That being said, I can say with certainty that Sony has done a wonderful job of putting premium sound into this 3.1 channel soundbar. It's truly impressive and shows how much sound bars have improved over the years. Before getting further into this review - If you buy the HT-S2000, Please make sure that you download Sony's Home Entertainment Connect app on your smartphone. There are additional settings in the app that you will not find on your remote, and you'll want the ability to fine tune your audio!I've been using a competitor's solution for about 4 years - a 2.1 channel soundbar with a wireless subwoofer. And, since I own a Sony Bravia XR 4K TV, I was curious to test how well it integrates with the TV. I've never had a complaint about my old soundbar's clarity or bass levels, but it doesn't support some of the newer audio codecs found in today's media (such as Dolby Atmos or DTX audio). So with these things in mind, I moved onto the HT-S2000, and I have to say... I am pleasantly surprised by how well the HT-S2000 performed. Not only did I not need the soundbar remote due to its direct integration with Sony's Bravia quick settings menu, but the sound was superb. I was watching the cinematic finale of Star Trek Picard, and I was blown away by how well the bass performs! Even without purchasing the optional subwoofer or rear speakers, the sound is crisp, clear, natural, and even booming at higher volume levels. I didn't expect such bass from such a small and size-constrained soundbar, so it was a big surprise for me. If you have the opportunity, I urge you to test out Sony's new soundbars at your local Best Buy to experience what I'm talking about here.A few notes that I want to share about soundbar settings - If you enjoy bass like I do, you'll likely want to change your bass setting to "MAX". You can choose between MIN, MID, and MAX - MIN is pretty much no bass, MID is slightly timid bass, and MAX brings the sound. Whenever you have the opportunity, definitely enable the Sound Field feature. Sony's "S-FORCE PRO Front Surround" feature is actually amazing. It takes your sound stage from standard stereo to a fully featured surround sound experience and it sounds wonderful. Sony's audio mixing reputation really shines in this feature. Also, if you're like me and constantly have different sound needs based on what you're watching or your environment, you'll love these 2 features - Voice mode and Night mode. Voice mode ups the output of vocal frequencies for those "Why are they whispering??" moments we've all experienced in movies and TV. Then there's the Night mode - In my opinion, this dulls the dynamic sound stage features of the soundbar to give a more "10pm appropriate" audio experience. I won't use that feature all the time, but it's there when you need it. Finally, in the Sony Home Entertainment Connect app, you can enable "DSEE", which enhances sound quality by restoring high-range sound. There's also an "Automatically adjust volume" setting for those movies that go dynamically change from explosion scenes to whisper quiet conversations. So, with all of that said, why am I giving this 4 stars? Well - In 2023, I think most people would prefer to have a soundbar that also connects to your wifi network and gives you additional smart features. When you're paying a premium for premium sound, I'd think most folks want the ability for anyone in the house to open their favorite music streaming app, select the soundbar from their smart devices, and enjoy some music or a nice podcast. That just isn't possible with Bluetooth-only wireless connectivity, and I think the HT-S2000 deserved wifi connectivity.

Sony HT-S2000 - Full Dolby Atmos Immersion
30 April 2023

When Sony HT-2000 3.1 h Dolby Atmos Soundbar arrived, I was bit surprised at the weight of the unit when I picked up the box, it was heavier than I would have thought. Which is excellent in a speaker system, weight in my experience is typically attributed to the quality of speaker magnets.Next plus for me when I unpacked the Sony HT-2000 was that the five front-firing speakers are visible through the grill. Like that, looking good. Equally appealing is the compact size of the unit which is right at 2.6’, compared to other units that stretch out to 4’ in width. The HT-S2000 has left, right and three center speakers as well as dual-subwoofers. Additionally, you can connect “Blu-ray Disc player, set-top box, cable box, gaming console, etc.”Sony’s Home Entertainment Connect App delivers an easy straight forward Installation, and you can be quickly connected to the TV and up and running. Speaker may be installed to the wall or optional TV bracket system for attaching to the TV.In addition to controlling the HT-2000 with the Sony Home Entertainment App the HT-S2000 can be managed with Sony’s Bravia XR TV remote through the Quick Settings menu. The system comes with a remote for managing settings, my TV and cable remotes worked flawlessly without having to re-enter codes. The TV that I connected the HT-S2000 to was installed with a swivel wall mount, so I opted for bracket system that allowed me to attach the soundbar to the TV. This option takes a bit longer in mounting the bracket system to the TV mount. Excellent setup, speaker is always centered when changing TV angle.Listening: When mounted and turned on I first sound tested with Dune the movie, it was rocking with broad, in-depth, immersive tunes with the Bass set at Mid-level (3 subwoofer settings Min/Mid/Max). Cranked Dune up to 100%, stunning sound - clear voice track and soundtrack - zip distortion. That said, I can share that the Sony HT-S2000 is an exceptional system, first rate sound, tech, design, construction and the bottom-line is the HT-S2000 enhances Home Theater brilliantly.

Very Disappointing
30 April 2023

Out of the box, I found this sound bar to have a balanced and clear sound with good volume. I tested it first with music via Bluetooth and received plush and crisp music reproduction. But this is being marketed as a sound bar and NOT as a large Bluetooth speaker. As a sound bar, this item alone is a disappointment. Here are my complaints:(1) If you are considering this unit to support a wall television unit, be aware that the width of this bar is less than 32". Under my 65", albeit diagonal, TV, the stereo part of the sound production is much less wide than my TV and sound placement relative to the video placement can be confusing (and occasionally jarring). Sound quality is an improvement but the overall experience isn't worth it.(2) For sound production ... MoreOut of the box, I found this sound bar to have a balanced and clear sound with good volume. Under my 65", albeit diagonal, TV, the stereo part of the sound production is much less wide than my TV and sound placement relative to the video placement can be confusing (and occasionally jarring). Sound quality is an improvement but the overall experience isn't worth it.(2) For sound production alone, this bar is being marketed as a stereo + center + subwoofer experience - 3.1. The tiny bass producing speakers are an embarrassment to the ".1" part of the designation. The narrow width of the bar doesn't really help with the actual experience of stereophonic effects. And because there is no powerful bass support from these speakers, even the slightest background noises can overwhelm any bass experiences this unit can support.(3) This sound bar comes equipped with a surround sound imaging "thing" that promises an engine of surround sound (also promises an s-force pro front surround). Neither of these two things is a real thing. The bar can, in an appropriate mode, create spatial illusions by directing sound but I haven't been able to create a non-annoying aural environment from any source. The only curious spatial effects I noticed were in sparse environments (my garage) and not in fluffier rooms. Sony has produced, at best, a solid bar with only rudimentary sound.Overall, the best sound from this bar was in my garage - an unfurnished room with no carpeting. At low volumes, the sound can be very nice, but the tiny bass speakers cannot carry a quality sound experience - and even low-level background noise can interrupt what little bass response is audible.Alas, this system is expandable with a separate powered subwoofer and with wireless little true surround speakers that pair with this bar. They would sure enhance my experience with this bar. But the price for this unit should guarantee a better sound without these pricy peripherals.
