Sony HVL F60RM Flash
The HVL-F60RM clip-on flash unit features high GN602 power, high-speed continuous shooting support, and fast operation that are ideal for advanced to professional users. Wireless radio commander/receiver functionality is included. Quick Shift Bounce is Sony’s original flash head rotating mechanism with the main unit tiltable from horizontal to vertical and it allows fast flash position changes. (90° left and right, 150° up/8° down) In addition to optical remote triggering, wireless radio triggering is supported. Wireless radio communication works reliably at distances of up to 30 meters and even around obstacles or in bright conditions. A total of 15 flash units can be assigned to up to 5 groups. Conventional optical triggering and wireless radio triggering cover a wide range of situations. A HVL-F60RM mounted on a compatible camera can be paired with off-camera units to provide reliable communication over long distances in conditions that would make optical communication difficult. Slow sync, rear-curtain sync, and multi flash are supported. Up to 15 flash units can be assigned to up to 5 groups for wireless flash control at distances of up to 30 meters. Optional Wireless Radio Commander (FA-WRC1M) and Wireless Radio Receiver (FA-WRR1) units allow the HVL-F60RM to be used with Sony flash units that do not have built-in radio wireless capability, as well as the radio-capable HVL-F45RM.

More power, better build quality and better flash rep rate than the earlier version. I had the Mk1 version of this flash. The earlier flimsy mount shoe broke and I had to replace it with the Mk2 version. This has a MUCH stronger shoe and better overall build quality. I shoot largely macro and and can get far more rapid shots off with this than the old one. Also seems to have a much better, more reliable wireless connection than the Mk1. I am very happy with it and, if I had realized how much better it is, would have upgraded even if the Mk1 had not broken.

I liked this flash when I first got it a month ago but feel seriously let down after using it. Its big bulky and the head is so loose that its near enough impossible to use light modifiers. The head does not lock and so moves about on its own after the slightest movement. there are lots of flashguns available at a fraction of the cost of this one with better facilities and with a locking flash head. At the asking price of this flash it should be perfect and it isn't and far from it. I tested this one at the side of a Nissan Di700A using a Seconic flash meter there appear very similar in power output, the Nissan has a locking head and facilities are very similar at a price nearly a quarter of this one from Sony. I would love this flash system so much, except, the radio syncing options prevent using more than one commander at a time. So if you photograph with more than one camera, or if you're an event photographer with a second shooter, only one commander can be used. Other flash systems, don't have this design flaw, and it's so disappointing that Sony continues to disallow multiple commanders. It's something they could fix with a firmware update...
I have used Nikon flash units for the majority of my photography work (Weddings)When I moved over to Sony I was reluctant to purchase the rather expensive HVL-F60RM and opted for a cheaper non branded flash to work with my Sony’s A7iii and found them to be inconsistent and unreliable.I recently purchased the Sony flagship flash several weeks ago and find the unit to have a quality build (which it should be for £619) the light is consistence and the HSS works with the flash head in any position. The design of this flash is revolutionary with it’s rotating mount (the flash is in the same position in horizontal as it is in the vertical)The recycle time is excellent and with my line of work is more than adequate for my environment .The menu system is simple and ... MoreI have used Nikon flash units for the majority of my photography work (Weddings)When I moved over to Sony I was reluctant to purchase the rather expensive HVL-F60RM and opted for a cheaper non branded flash to work with my Sony’s A7iii and found them to be inconsistent and unreliable.I recently purchased the Sony flagship flash several weeks ago and find the unit to have a quality build (which it should be for £619) the light is consistence and the HSS works with the flash head in any position. The design of this flash is revolutionary with it’s rotating mount (the flash is in the same position in horizontal as it is in the vertical)The recycle time is excellent and with my line of work is more than adequate for my environment .The menu system is simple and easy to navigate unlike the menus system on my A7iii.I would have paid the asking price of £619 but if you look around I purchased the unit from Wilkinson camera shop based in the Uk for £449.Having been in the wedding g photography business for 12 years you get used to overpriced gear but as stated earlier in this basic review you get what you pay for and in my opinion this unit is excellent(
I rented this flash, the HVL-F45RM flash, the Sony FA-WRC1M commander and a light stand for a wedding shoot. It all worked out perfectly, and I couldn’t be happier. The whole kit arrived early so I was able to get used to the units and get them to working just the way I needed. Thanks LensRentals!!!
This flash works really as tested with my A7RIV. The quality is very high, and I'm glad I bought it. Previously I was using Godox speed lights and this is night and day better.Benefits:* Super easy to use.* Great user interface (buttons, screen, etc) in comparison to Godox.* Accurate TTL.* Really nice snap on color filters and defuser.* Easy to update firmware (make sure you update as it shipped with the original 1.0 when the current is 2.01 as of this review).Ways Sony can improve it:* Price. It's expensive for what it is. I'm used to cheap Godox flashes.* Optional lithium ion battery like Godox. Maybe even use the sony Z battery?* I wish both pivots had a locking feature. Something simple like having to squeeze the pivot in order to move ... MoreThis flash works really as tested with my A7RIV. The quality is very high, and I'm glad I bought it. My guess is it will be fine, but if moving around very fast it's possible the Mag Mod could cause the flash to pivot unexpectedly. I'll need to test and update the review. I suspect it is a non issue.
I love the Flash. For some reason the box was delivered without the mini stand. Still waiting to hear back from BH. Quick reply and then have not responded. Flash is excellent and would recommend it. Will purchase another flash to work with this one if BH gets back to me about the original mini stand.
I am very happy with the performance of the HVL-60RM. The flash works great as a receiver and with the wireless flash commander. I had no problems with overheating during a family photo shoot. Myfavorite is the level adjustment buttons on the back of the flash. I love the smaller size, and the head spins and tilts. This is an amazing flash that is easy to rotate for portrait orientation. In my opinion the TTL metering overexposes the photos, so be ready to lower the power as needed. The menu is simple and quick to get to, and I can get to my favorite setting more quickly. I am planning to purchase another one HVL-60RM. I highly recommended.
Looking for the do all flash ? This is it. Comes with a built in video light ( you control the light output ) adjustable flash head and is ready for heavy duty work. Weddings , Milestone Birthday party's. , Baby showers , Graduations etc: yeah it's expensive but pays for itself after the first job.
