These Inzone H5 gaming headphones from Sony are at first sight a very attractive proposal. They sit firmly in the mid-range pricing between the wired H3 and the more expensive H7 and H9. They look quality: matt white hard surround with contrasting soft black padding for the headband and earcups, using as I suspect the PlayStation 5 casing colours design. They arrived in Eco packaging.Upon placement, they are very light (260g) and comfortable. The top arc of the headband is soft and even over the head, allowing for hours of use with very little discomfort. The headband is smoothly adjustable within the plastic black and white mountings either side of the central headband and doesn’t seem to slip during use. The earcups are even softer than the headband, completing the pleasant wearing experience. Initially I am impressed with the seal over the ears, removing a great deal of ambient noise, even before they are turned on.With 28 hours of battery life from a full charge, I can’t imagine running short after an evening’s play. Even if you do, 10 mins charge provides 3 hours of play if you did forget to charge them the night before. They come with a USB charging cable, no charger of course. There is limited sound functionality on the headset, however Sony’s Inzone Hub provides a great improvement to the sound quality with its Spatial Audio. There is no Bluetooth connectivity, but they quickly connect every time through the provided USB dongle with a PC / PlayStation switch. The left cup provides the microphone with a very useful mute function when moved up past your eyeline and clicks back and forth to confirm you are muted or not. There is a nice volume “wheel”, my preference for any headphone volume adjuster that you move by touch alone. Then there’s a 3.5mm jack, useful with the cable provided as it’s lacking that Bluetooth connection. Finally, the USB C charging port. The right cup provides a power button (press and hold to turn off and on) and a set of two buttons that allows you to increase the chat or game volume to suit. The sound is good but distant, clearly not designed for high quality music, but more than adequate for gaming. It’s lacking in full range, mainly base and depth, but it is compatible with Sony’s Inzone Hub which has pre-set options. Noise cancellation appears effective, even at low volumes.Overall, I like the fact that they light and comfortable, quick to connect and the controls are easy to use. And they are affordable, clearly filling the gap in Sony’s range, making them a go-to option for those on a budget.

I have used headphones and I normally have heavy ears after 2 hours. Sony Inzone H5 is an absolute champion in this and the fabric cup padding and generous cushioning across the headband gives a long lasting comfort, without any sacrifices. A low clamp force meant I could play or listen to music for hours at a time without feeling even a hint of pressure, while the slightly elongated oblong cups kept my ears comfortably housed without holding the ears tight.Sony Inzone headset doesn't comes with ANC but a very simplistic design approach with elongated oblong cups delivers an excellent sound isolation. As the headphones are designed for PC and gaming purpose the application is indoors where ANC is probably an overkill. It's a bold decision from Sony to leave out ANC and Bluetooth but Sony delivers on this and one can't complain. Users have to bear in mind it's not an all purpose headphones and only designed for PC application and gaming consoles. From it's looks to color scheme it resembles Sony’s PS5 Design Statement and is an ideal companion for PS5.The headphones come with 2.4Ghz low latency wireless connectivity and features 40mm drivers with frequency response 5 - 20 KHz. It comes with a mic with AI noise reduction and also has option for both wired and wireless connection. The H5 settings can be adjusted using the Inzone Hub. This is where, EQ settings and presets, dynamic range adjustments, spatial audio switch all can be found.Whether you are using some built in presets like music or bass enhancer or playing with equalizer settings, the Sony Inzone H5 absolutely shines in its sound quality. The H5 produces a detailed, faithful audio with a wide and dynamic soundstage. The audio delivery is smooth and vivid at the same time with no unnecessary extras. It effortlessly delivers a subtle yet detailed sound which is perfect for either gaming, listening to music or even voice calls over PC.This is definitely worth it for people who plays game both in PC and playstation. Also is it's a very useful product for someone who has high PC usage for making voice calls or wants to listen music in PC. With long battery life it is designed for long and continues use. The additional wired option just provides the added security in case one forgot to recharge the battery. All in a great product whose biggest strength is it's simplicity!

It also nicely matches the PS5 aesthetic, especially in white. The boom mic is swing up to mute, and the lower 3/4ths of it is soft and flexible so you can adjust its position slightly for comfort and best voice pickup. The left earcup also has a volume dial with a nice clicky feel. It's infinite scrolling, so there is no top or bottom to the scroll. I'm a big fan of volume control on headsets, because it lets you control the volume on your head independent of device volume, which is quite convenient. This does require the included USB dongle, even on the PS5. It also has settings for the microphone volume, auto gain, sidetone, and game/chat audio balance (this is also adjustable with rocker buttons on the right earcup). You can also setup "spatial sound" which is Sony's 3D audio magic, but this requires installing an App on your Phone and taking a picture of your ears (so it can analyze your ear structure). You can then Set settings on a per-app (game) so each game can have its own defaults. All in all, all of these customizations settings just on PC alone make this a really nice headset.

I do not have a PS5; however, these headphones are designed for use with Sony’s current gaming device – and if I had obtained for that use, I feel the white model would match better in general. With color aesthetics aside, these headphones are a minimalistic appearing over-the-ear style with a sleek and functional microphone that may be adjusted for use. The headphones are lightweight, which allows for comfort of the over-the-ear style and may be worn without significant discomfort after longer gaming sessions. I also have not had my ears get too hot while using them, which often is an issue with previous over-the-ear headphones. Charging is simple, using a USB-C port (which I feel has become a main standard for most devices). I have not had issues with battery life during a couple evenings gaming session. I typically charge most nights, but it is advertised to be able to get 28-hours of battery life from a charge. The connectivity of the headphones is mainly by a USB adapter piece/receiver with a toggle for PC vs PS5. Upon power-on the headphones connect quickly and efficiently without the need to pair or go through hoops to use; however, the USB adapter size is present and while gaming on my laptop found it hitting my leg some – which I just worry over long-term use could damage the adapter from pressure pushing up on it. There is not a Bluetooth connection option, so these are not necessarily compatible with most/some devices (like my phone for instance) which is not a deal breaker as they are not designed for that purpose necessarily, but worth mentioning. There is also the option to plug into a standard audio cable port, making available more devices for use. Once connecting on the PC, you may use the InZone Hub app to customize experience with robust equalizer options. There is an option for 360 spatial audio which provides a more robust gaming experience, enhancing ability to hear directional sound while gaming. I felt that although outside noises are not canceled out by these, for the level of headphone, there is a great dampening effect that allows for focus on the game. I felt that the quality of sound is appropriate for gaming related headphones, it is not as robust as some more enhanced noise-canceling models I have used; but is absolutely acceptable for purpose and expectation. Sony has taken core listening technology and turned this into a gaming tool: allowing for precision sound while in game, a microphone that those on the receiving end have not complained about voice quality and prolonged comfort. These headphones perform to the standard they are advertised as, and when it comes to a console/PC gaming experience are well fit for the task

[Rewarded Review] Good for Gaming but no Bluetooth or Voice Prompts
22 October 2023

Overall these are a good headset but they lack features/functionality that more and more competitors are offering for mid-tier wireless gaming headphones. They don’t support Bluetooth connectivity or come with voice prompts or visual indications of their status. Even my cheapest earbuds do this! The fit, comfort and overall audio performance was good and what you would expect at this level. If you are into the Sony ecosystem this is one headset to consider but if you have extra budget I would recommend upgrading to the H7 if possible.Pros:- The headphones are very light, fit comfortably and have a low profile- The Spatial Audio adds to the gaming experience- InZone Hub equalizer lets you customize the sound qualityCons:- No Bluetooth- No Noise Cancellation- No voice prompts for battery level or connection status- No storage case- The USB receiver is 4 cm long which is not laptop friendlyPerformance: These headphones come with a long USB transceiver that pairs reliably and quickly. As mentioned above there is no Bluetooth support so using these wirelessly with other devices such as a phone or tablet is not possible. Sadly there are not any voice prompts to tell you the status of the headset or the connection. No “Hello Battery level is …” or “Pairing” or “Connected” or “Goodbye” status messages. Instead you get cryptic beeps in the headset that you have to differentiate to know what is going on. Also there is only a very small led on the side of the headset that blinks occasionally to give you any type of indication that they are on. On the front of the transceiver there is a led connection status indicator but if you are like most people your pc is on the floor and due to the length of the transceiver you most probably will have it in the back of the pc. Using the 4cm transceiver in the side of a laptop can be very problematic due to how far it extends out. Once you get the headset paired you can then access the configuration options in Sony’s InZone Hub app on your pc. The app allows you to set up Sony’s 360 Spatial audio which provides a much fuller sound stage. The Spatial audio adds directional separation to the sounds so in FPS games you know exactly where the sound came from. Also the InZone app allows you to set a custom equalizer or you can use one of the presets to personalize the sound quality. After adjusting the equalizer I was able to get the sound quality I expected from a Sony headset. There are openings on the sides of the ear muffs that are supposed to help with ear drum pressure from the bass sounds. This is helpful if you love deep bass or play games with a lot of explosions and bangs. The headset has a rotary volume control, a USB-C charging port, an audio cable port and the microphone on the left ear muff. On the right ear muff you have the on/off button and the Chat/Game switch. The microphone boon is flexible so you can configure it close to your mouth and it has a built in mute when you raise it. The microphone does have voice isolation to help enhance your voice quality. The headphones are charged via an included USB-C cable and the battery life is estimated at 28 hours.Fit: These headphones have a low profile and are very light sitting on your head. The soft fabric foam rings allow your ear to sit inside the cups. The earcups are very supple so they conform to your head and provides some noise isolation. This is not nearly as good as true noise cancelling headphones but its enough to help isolate some fan and room noise. The support arms slide to fit unlike others that have stepped arms. Because of this the arm length is less likely to stay fitted when taken on and off. The pull down microphone arm is flexible so that you can bend it to pick up the best voice quality without it being in the way.

[Rewarded Review] Great comfot and sound quality

The Sony Inzone H5 Wireless headset is my second Sony gaming headset and an improvement from the H3 that I previously reviewed thanks to the wireless connection capability. The Inzone H5 a pretty serious improvement from other gaming headsets that I've used in that it is pretty lightweight and the padding both on the earcups and the headband are extremely soft. The comfort makes a big difference when using the Inzone H5 for long gaming sessions (or like I did today, for an 8 hour training class at work). One change from the previous Inzone model is the H5 is not "discord certified" like the H3 was. I found that feature was kind of neat to see in the Discord app but didn't really seem to improve sound quality at all. The H5 kind of proves that theory as my friends ... MoreThe Sony Inzone H5 Wireless headset is my second Sony gaming headset and an improvement from the H3 that I previously reviewed thanks to the wireless connection capability. I found that feature was kind of neat to see in the Discord app but didn't really seem to improve sound quality at all. The H5 kind of proves that theory as my friends still thought the mic sounded very good for a gaming headset and the sound quality of other people talking in chat was very good. You can also set up a chat/gaming audio balance where your voice comms use the "headset" channel while your actual gaming sounds come through the "headsphones" channel, allowing you to set a balance through the Sony Inzone app so it doesn't always sound like the sounds are competing with each other. As for day to day usage, the Inzone H5 seems easy to live with. Sony advertises the battery life as 28 hours. I haven't been able to get 28 hours of gaming in to comment on this fully, but I will say that I have been able to use them for about a week now without charging them except for when I plugged them in right out of the box. I also found the automatic sleep to be pretty effective. The button placement is kind of strange and took some getting used to (hard to explain, and YMMV on this), but the buttons all feel sturdy and are easy to click once your hands find them. The mic does have a flip-to-mute capability which is great for my use case (mixed gaming and professional use).Overall, this is a great headset that is among the best I've used with my PC. This will be highly recommended for my friends and family during the holiday season.

[Rewarded Review] Lightweight, comfortable, great sounding headset

The Sony INZONE H5 wireless headset box comes with an attractive white headset (matches the PS5 in style), a USB transceiver, a USB charging cable, and a 3.5 mm audio cable for wired connection. The first thing I noticed is that it feels considerably lighter than my other gaming headsets and I feel less pressure on my ears compared to other headsets that I have. The ear cups are also very breathable so your ears won’t get as hot. Because of this, I found it to be very comfortable and doesn’t feel as fatiguing to wear for long periods of time. The USB transceiver has a switch for PC or PS5 mode. It was fairly easy to set up. Because of this, I found it to be very comfortable and doesn’t feel as fatiguing to wear for long periods of time. The USB transceiver has a switch for PC or PS5 mode. It was fairly easy to set up. You just plug in the USB transceiver and turn on the headset. It automatically finds and pairs with the headset. You don’t even need to initially charge the headset before use. You can power the headset using the included USB charging cable and it will charge the battery while you use it.To get the most out of the headset you also need to download and install the INZONE Hub software. This allows you to customize the headset’s sound to your liking. Within the software there is an equalizer, dynamic range control, microphone auto gain control, options for setting up and enabling Spatial Sound and master volume control as well as a game/chat balance. There was something that I thought was very confusing about the set up. Windows reported two devices (INZONE H5 - Chat and INZONE H5 Gaming) after installing the headset. You have to set your computer to use INZONE H5 - Gaming in order for the equalizer and Spatial Sound to work. If you use INZONE H5 - Chat these settings have no effect.I was able to set up 3D Spatial Sound after some difficulty. The setup requires you to create a Sony account and download the 360 Spatializer App to your phone. You use the app to take pictures of your ears so the app can analyze the shape of your ears to customize the sound.I tried several times but the app would not recognize my ears. I had to go to my bathroom where I could use the additional mirrors to help me position my ears correctly before my cell phone’s camera could recognize and detect my ears.I was a little ambivalent about having photos of my ears in the cloud and I had my doubts that such a thing could really work. After setting this up, you are able to enable 3D Spatial Sound in INZONE Hub software. The first thing I tried was viewing some Dolby Atmos demos on YouTube. I toggle the effect ON/OFF to see if there was a difference. There was a difference in sound but it’s hard to say whether I prefer having 3D Spatial Sound ON or OFF. I initially thought having it OFF made things sound fuller but the 3D effect seemed the same.Until I came upon a demo called “Real 5.1 Channel Audio Test 4K”. With this demo, I was able to hear a big difference and having 3D Spatial Sound ON was clearly better. In the demo, they had sounds coming from the left surround and right surround speakers. With 3D Spatial Sound OFF, the sounds seem to come from the left and right headset. With 3D Spatial Sound ON, the sounds seemed to come from the left and right area “behind” me. So, I think this really does work and it’s kind of cool.Overall, I think the Sony INZONE H5 headset sounded great. At first I thought it was a little too boomy for me but after installing the INZONE Hub software and using the equalizer, I thought it sounded much better.Games, videos, and music now all sounded great with good bass, good clarity and a nice wide soundstage. Dialogue was also very easy to understand.Sound recordings from the mic sounded very clear with no background noise at all. I like that you can mute/unmute the microphone just by lifting or lowering the mic. I prefer this method to fumbling around looking for a mute/unmute button.I loved that the Sony INZONE H5 headset also has an option for wired connection for those that prefer it. I wished it also included Bluetooth so I could use it with more devices. In summary, I like the Sony INZONE H5 headset a lot. It looks great. It’s probably the best looking headset I have. It’s very light and is the most comfortable headset I’ve tried for longer periods of use. In addition, it also sounds fantastic. Highly recommended.

[Rewarded Review] Nice headphones, wireless and light

This is a great new pair of Sony INZONE H5 Wireless Noise Cancelling Over-Ear Headphones. I’ve had them for a couple weeks now and have really enjoyed them. Wireless, nice boom mic, and great sound quality. They’re very light and comfortable to allow for long sessions without head/neck/ear fatigue.Sound Quality: I’ve had and used many pairs of headphones and to me the most important aspect of any pair of headphones is their sound quality. These headphones are quite nice. Sound great quiet or loud, whatever your preference is. The over ear design makes them inherently noise cancelling of outside chatter, allows low level listening even in a noisy environment. The sound is nice and clean with crystal clear highs. The bass response is ok, but I was honestly expecting a little more low-end bump based on the size of these headphones and their drivers. Still a terrific overall audio performance.Design and Build: The headphones are well-constructed and seem very durable but SUPER lightweight. I like the look, good gaming design, and the white color matches my laptop. Smooth lines and these would look really nice alongside a PS5 which I think these were really designed to be paired with.Connectivity Options: Simple to connect USB dongle/transponder for wireless connection. The transponder seems bigger than necessary. I’m also quite disappointed that these don’t have Bluetooth capabilities – would be really nice to use these with the laptop without needing to worry about the USB thing’s size as well as the fact that it takes up an available USB port if you’re limited. These headphones can also use the 3.5mm auxiliary audio cable that they come with but this eliminates their usefulness of being wireless.Battery Life: seriously good battery life here with 28-hour use time on a single charge. Can go several days without problem. Also charge pretty quickly as well – 10 minutes of charge rewards you with 3 hours of audio playback! As with any devicer battery life will vary with usage habits but overall battery seems very good with these.Price: These just dropped so price of these headphones may be a little elevated, however, price is in line with other headphones of similar category with similar specs.Overall, really, really nice headphones with great sound. I would recommend them to a friend.

[Rewarded Review] Not bad sound, but not as comfortable as preferred

So, I can be a bit picky when it comes to gaming headsets (well, any type of headset). For me, comfort is a bit more important than the sound quality. For the new Sony INZONE H5 Wireless Gaming Headset, I'm a little mixed on both. For the sound quality, it is pretty good once the equalizer was set the way I like it in the INZONE Hub app. Was a blown away, not quite, but for the amount of gaming I do, it would be fine. It could definitely portray directional sounds quite well (when listening for the direction that footsteps or other sounds are coming from). For testing the mic, I played a few games with one of my sons. His thoughts on the voice clarity were a little low. For testing the mic, I played a few games with one of my sons. His thoughts on the voice clarity were a little low. He mentioned it was a little muffled/distorted, and had trouble understanding all the words. I tried adjsuting a few mic settings in the INZONE Hub app, but it didn't seem to help. Still, with most of the gaming I do, I don't chat much or just play single-player.For comfort, I would prefer a headset that I could wear for an hour or two and not be bothered. For this one, it's not the worst experience I've had (at least it doesn't feel like I'm wearing channel-lock pliers because it is so tight), but what seems to bother me the most is the headband cushion. Even though the headset itself is pretty light, the foam is just a little too stiff and wish that they had used the same softer fabric as the earcups instead of the slightly stiffer leatherette-style material. It does seem to bother the top of my head, but still, not the worst I've tried. The earcups are definitely big enough, but the way it sits up against my head around the ears could be a little more comfortable to be able to wear for long periods. The design is just a simple, typical gaming headset design, with the normal "raise to mute" microphone. The volume control design on the left ear cup is interesting. There is raised plastic on either side of the wheel, and the wheel doesn't really stick out past it, which makes it slightly more difficult to use. The power button is on the right ear cup. It does have a 3.5mm jack (with included cable) to connect in wired mode to the computer. The charging is via USB-C port, with included USB-A to USB-C cable. One thing that is a little nice is that the headset can still be used wireless while charging. The instruction mentions that it may not be best to use it while charging when connected via cable. There is also a GAME/CHAT button that is used to determine which output is prioritized to listen to. CHAT increases the volume of chats, while GAME increases the game sound volume. The battery life is up to 28 hours, and you can get 3 hours of use with a 10 minute charge (but as mentioned, it can still be used while playing if charging near where you are sitting). While this may not be my favorite headset, it is still decent and will probably get some use.

[Rewarded Review] Super lightweight gaming headset!

The Sony Inzone H5 Wireless Gaming Headset is an overall great gaming headset that I would recommend to just about anyone looking for a gaming headset. They are super lightweight with a very comfortable headband and ear-cups making long gaming sessions extremely comfortable. There are multiple ways to connect the H5's to your platform of choice, with bluetooth, auxiliary cord, and a USB-A to C connection you can connect this headset to just about any device. The sound quality is good overall with no noticeable distortion, the mic quality is also good and it is able to cut out a decent amount of background noise. My only complaints with the Sony H5's, and the only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars, is the overall build quality of the headset and the limited adjustability of the microphone arm. The mic arm, at least for me, ends up sitting way to close to my mouth; to the point that my beard is rubbing on it, and only the last 2/3 of the mic is adjustable and only a small amount. This causes the mic to sit very close to my face with no way to really move it out further. I also have some concerns with the overall build quality of this headset, while it is very light, it also feels very flimsy and cheaply made. The ear-cups are very shallow and your ears end up sitting right agains the speakers, the headset is very "bendy" which leads to it feeling that it is cheaply made and makes me worry about its longevity.I would still recommend these to anyone looking for a great headset, but I would also be aware of the issues and concerns that I have with these. If they do not concern you or if they are something you can live with, I would highly recommend these. Just how light and comfortable these are make any of the issues moot for me since these are probably some of the most comfortable gaming headset that I have ever used.
