Speeds are not upto scratch for read of write, best speed was on intel mac 750MB/s, write speed though was terrible at way under specs. Was told system was problem and software (black magic) is not what they use to test. however all other devices are full speed on all 3 mac devices. So something is not correct.

Does what it's supposed to... most of the time. For the price it should be all the time. When it reads a CF card it usually hauls beautifully, but one out of four or five times, no matter the card or computer, it drops down to USB3 speeds, which sure means a long copy time for a slew of 120meg RAW files. No predicting when the slow down will happen or what card or what computer.I'll keep it since I need the CF card reading ability, but a customer might want to check out other brands before purchasing.

I bought the Sony MRW-G2 Card Reader earlier this year. At first the card reader worked flawlessly with no issues. However, a couple of months ago the transfer speeds of the card reader dropped and went down to 20mbps-30mbps from the original 200mbps-300mbps that I was getting with the Sony CFexpress Type A TOUGH memory cards and ProGrade Digital UHS-II SDXC memory cards.I tested the actual card speeds with my camera plugged directly into my computer via USB-C and I was getting the original transfer speeds that I was getting from the card reader. The card reader also started to intermittently not connect to my computer for no reason, and I tested multiple cables with the same issue. After all this I contacted B&H support who offered absolutely no help and they ... MoreI bought the Sony MRW-G2 Card Reader earlier this year. They could only to direct me to Sony support in the US. Now being an international customer in Australia after contacting Sony in the US I was not eligible for a replacement as I did not have a US address that they could send the card reader back to once it was repaired. I also tried Sony Australia and as it is an internationally purchased product, they couldn't do anything either. So, a bit a warning for people buying this that are not based in the US, I'd recommend buying the card reader locally instead in case something does go wrong and you need it replaced under warranty.

The reader is of great quality. Sturdy metal body quite heavy in the hand and comes with both usb-c and usb-a cables. The only reason I rate 4 stars to it is that it’s quite expensive compared to other type of readers of alternative brands, and that there isnt any alternative yet as this is the only reader that work with the CF type A cards that the sony a7s3 use. Sony takes advantage on this and charges you $$$ for their cards and reader. Surely in the future they’ll go down in price when ProGrade and Lexar get their cards out in the market.Though I must say that the build quality is 10/10.
This card reader is pretty good. Transfers are fast, you get two USB cables (C and A type). If you use SDXC cards, make sure you don't have any stickers on them. I literally pulled off the cover where the port is trying to remove an SDXC card with a sticker on it. Thankfully it popped back into place and it seems to be working fine now. The front came off too easily which is why this gets 4 stars and not 5.
I feel like 4 and 5 star reviews are for hyperbole products that go WAY beyond their intended function. But alas, this lowly pricey card reader for insanely pricey memory cards functions fine. It does NOT make my coffee. Minus 1 star. It's unable to calm my increasingly hysterical fiancee about reckless spending at B&H. Minus 1 star. There you go. 3 stars. Rah Rah Sony. What am I going to upload picture of? Wide eyed fiancee pointing at the express card reader?
Only reader for CFast card so Sony suckered you into buying it too. Works great but dont use while editing. Transfer files to harddrive first the remove the reader. Thing gets super hot if your manipulating clips while its in your computer.
This reader runs incredibly hot, too hot to touch while it's transferring files. Labels on my cards melt and have caused cards to jam in the reader, particularly SDX cards. Pulling out jammed cards occasionally pulls off the whole front section of the reader. It can be popped back on but this is not ideal. The dual slot interface is poorly thought-out. This should be two slots, not one gaping hole. Contrary to what another review claimed, this reader does work with Big Sur. However, when the reader is hot, the card/reader will sometimes fail to eject via the operating system / transfer utility (I'm using Catalyst Browse). Yes, it does transfer files, quickly, so it's not a complete fail, but it could be better.
I have both the Sony CFexpress Reader and the Prograde CFexpress Reader. The Sony reader is superior in several ways. 1, it doesn't get as hot. 2, With the Prograde I'd often have read errors in that the computer simply didn't recognize the reader and I've have to connect disconnect reconnect several times. 3 The Sony has positive 'click-in' and spring out of both SD and CFexpress cards. Doing it again I'd suffer the price difference at first and just buy the Sony.I have to admit I'm Sony prejudiced, owning Sony A1, Sony a7iv, A7C; heck even my hearing aids are Sony :)
Excellent build quality, lightning fast speeds but...What's the point of including such short cables?1 foot long cables is truly a joke.Come on Sony, I am not asking for 6 feet cables, but 3 feet should be the minimal length. How much money are you guys saving compared to the profit you are making with such a highly priced item?
