Two main reasons I chose to buy the Sony NWZ-B183 is price, drag and drop file transfer, and Sony sound quality with bass boost. I bought a refurbished unit, seems to be lots of them out there for sale at around $30CND, and the condition for these are almost new. I believe a lot of the refurbished units are returns due to mp3s failing to play. I found that transferring mp3s directly from old itunes folder, will have almost a 50/50 chance of failing to play (it plays blank), this is an Apple thing, where it seems itunes modified the mp3s (additionally, newer versions of itunes encrypts the MP3 files names). I bought this mp3 player to get away from itunes, I wanted to be able to quickly drag and drop mp3s. I also really like Sony's Bass enhancement, and FM radio, so this device seems to be the quick fix for my music cravings. Pros: Refubs ones are dirt cheap Easy drag and drop mp3s from computer onto the stick (avoid itunes) Confirmed to play continuously for 14hrs Sound is clean, and strong bass (if switched on) OLED display is nice and bright with good info details Without reading the manual, the menu is logically laid out, only the radio is a little weird with the manual and preset functions (takes a bit to figure out how to add and remove radio stations), it's 10x better than most cheap-o-Chinese mp3 players. Radio works great, and auto preset works great to load up some channels Can record from Radio Unit recharges in 2hrs unit is compact and small Minor things I didn't like: The cap can easily be lost (I tape it up when there is a chance it can be lost, getto but I rather not loose it) 4GB can be a limitation Bass boost is on/off through the settings (no bass on/off button) Vol +/- and Home/Back button are tiny little dots, rarely used, but a pain to use when needed Records only radio not voice, and record quality is fair to poor, but I don't really care Unit is an aluminum can/shell on steel chassis with plastic parts, although it will most likely hold up to some abuse, it scars very easily.

We got this for one of our children when he was 9 or 10 as he insisted on carrying his radio EVERYWHERE, listening to his MP3 stories. After dropping one too many bulky radio, we got this and a small portable speaker.Amazing!Holds so many files on it, is tiny enough to tuck into a pocket with a little speaker to go for a walk or keep by the head of the bed at night. Each file can be easily identified as it keeps it's title and can be sorted into folders when you're transferring from the computer (which is super fast and easy).Has definitely been dropped in wet grass, on hard surfaces, etc. and stands up well.I'm not super tech-y and can't comment on the quality of symphonic sound or anything, but it's an easy-to-use and durable workhorse of an MP3 player. No ... MoreWe got this for one of our children when he was 9 or 10 as he insisted on carrying his radio EVERYWHERE, listening to his MP3 stories. This is a nice small player with simple controls, basically Play/Pause, Next, Previous, and Volume. It's easiest to just "drag and drop" your music files into the "Music" folder using Explorer on a PC. There are a couple of drawbacks that I found. One is that it only plays mp3 and mwa files. If those are your compressed files of choice, then no problem, but they aren't mine. I only convert to mp3 as my car stereo only recognizes mp3 files also. It will not do mp4 or ATRAC files like a Japan model will. I also found some skipping on playback, but this was after deleting and adding several songs, so I figured the playback couldn't switch file addresses fast enough so I copied all the songs on the player to my SDD, formatted the Sony using the Settings on the player, ... MoreThis is a nice small player with simple controls, basically Play/Pause, Next, Previous, and Volume. This seemed to defrag them and the skipping ended. The radio sounds pretty good although even when the scanner for presets was on the sensitive setting, it didn't register all the stations that I listen to. I had to manually add several to the presets which is possible but not that intuitive. You have to push the buttons in the right order. I pulled out the direction sheet for this after a couple of mis-attempts. Just plugging it into a USB port on my Win10 pro 64-bit PC was just like any flash drive. It was recognized immediately and appeared as "Walkman" in Win Explorer. I renamed it to "WalkmanB183" and it still shows up as that. I don't know if it will on another machine as I haven't tried it. Not sure on battery life as I haven't run it to zero. I just plug it into a computer when I sit down which is at home and in the office and it tops the battery off. It doesn't compare to my Sony NW-S755, but then I don't have to worry as much about losing or damaging it and serves as my "around-about-town" music player. It's a lot smaller and lighter than my iPhone also. The earbuds that came with it are hard plastic. I haven't even tried them as I have JBL, Seinheiser, Denon, and other buds to use. Just looking at them made my ears hurt so no review on them. They are still in the plastic they came in.
