A Great Addition to the Sony HT-A7000 Soundbar

Both featured surround sound and both impressed with immersion experience. I felt like I was in the middle of the action (with the sub and wireless speakers setup included). The use of these speakers brought me even further into the action as I felt as though missiles were flying by, helicopters were behind me, people were yelling all around me, etc. The experience was incredible as far as putting me IN the movie. They provide a total of 100W of output from the 2-way drivers.* The speakers are easily mountable by using either the slotted hole (like a keyhole - see my pictures) with a screw in an anchor in the wall OR by using a tripod or other mounting apparatus using a 1/4" bolt mount. They can also be simply placed as they are without mounting.CONS:-----------* It can only be used with specific "other" Sony products. It can't be used as standalone wireless speakers for a regular amplifier system.* There are no mounting screws/anchors for the basic hanging method using the slotted hole.OTHER OBSERVATIONS:-----------* When the main soundbar is turned off, these wireless speakers are automatically turned off as well.* When the speakers are ON, the LED on the front bottom of the units turns GREEN. When the units are OFF, they turn RED.* These speakers are wireless, but keep in mind that wherever you mount these, you will still need an AC plug for power for them to work.* The front grills are not removable.* When pairing up with the soundbar, the wireless speakers did take a firmware update with no issues.CONCLUSION:=====================I highly recommend that you add these wireless speakers to your HT-A7000 soundbar system but only after you buy one of the subwoofers as well. The surround speakers really complete the surround experience; however, I wouldn't have these before getting the subwoofer. Having all 3 items will complete your soundbar system in an incredible and immersive way. The soundbar creates left, right, and above sounds... but these surround speakers take it behind you and even more-so around you. You will notice a difference when added for sure. I highly recommend them with the HT-A7000. Great job, Sony. (I did reviews for the other 2 products in this line as well if you enjoyed this review.)

Green light indicates that it is power on and connected to the soundbar.By using the Sound Optimization Tool included in the a7000 Setup configuration, the system will adjust automatically the best volume level for your environment. As well as the rest of the team (the A7000 and the subwoofer), these speakers come with Pluggable Power cord. For me it was something that I have been waiting for this for a long time. My wife is an extreme cleaner, mopping and sweeping all the time and every time I have to move the speakers, and it was a headache trying to find the Power outlet to disconnect it and reconnect it back again, now it is easy, just disconnect from the unit the power cordI definitely recommend this set to enhance your Virtual surround sound experience for your A7000 Soundbar.

It's not suppose to replicate what's playing from the main channels at full volume.Overall, I'm very impress with Sony's implementation and calibration. I think moving forward, Sony will be my go to soundbar.

Essential Add-On for the A7000 Surround Experience
3 September 2021

Sony's new HT-A7000 soundbar is great on its own, but virtual surround features on any soundbar will never be as convincing or immersive as dedicated rear speakers. Sony's RS3S wireless rear speakers are a seamless extension of the A7000 and truly provide a complete surround sound experience.=== SETUP AND CONFIGURATION (5 Stars) ===Both rear speakers connect wirelessly to the A7000, so all you need to do is plug them into a power outlet. There are holes on the back of each speaker that can be used for wall mounting. Additionally, the speakers have a threaded hole that can be used for mounting these on speaker stands. Even though the A7000 is sold separately, the rear speakers pair instantly and automatically with the soundbar. All I had to do was turn on the soundbar, then plug in the rear speakers to power, and wait for the lights on the front to turn green. Within about 5 seconds, the speakers were paired with the soundbar and I was ready to go. If you have trouble connecting the speakers automatically, you can attempt a manual connection through the settings menu (Home > Setup > Advanced Settings > Speaker Settings > Wireless Speaker Settings > Start Manual Linking). Once paried, the speakers turn on and off with the soundbar. A solid red light on the front indicates that a speaker is off ("standby mode"). A solid green light means that it is on and connected to your soundbar. Once successfully paired, I recommend running the "sound field optimization" wizard again from the settings menu.=== DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY (4.5 Stars) ===These speakers have a minimalist design that blend in seamlessly with the look of the A7000 soundbar. When placed upright, the speakers are about 7.5 inches tall. I placed them directly on the tables situated on both sides of my living room couch. The sides of the speakers are textured, but they don't feel as soft or premium as the SW5 subwoofer. The mesh on the front of the speakers matches that of the A7000. The power cords attach to the speakers at an angle which makes for awkward cable management.=== SOUND QUALITY (5 Stars) ===If you want a true surround sound experience from your A7000 soundbar, these RS3S rear speakers are an essential add-on. Before pairing these speakers, I watched several minutes of Godzilla vs. Kong and Mad Max: Fury Road using just the A7000 soundbar. It was certainly impressive and the A7000's virtualization features are top-notch. But after I added the RS3S speakers, I was truly amazed. My first thought was: "THIS is how these movies are supposed to sound." Paired with the side-beam and upward-firing drivers on the A7000, the resulting sound is one of the most thrilling home theater experiences I've had. Sony does not appear to offer any type of EQ or sound customization settings in the A7000 menus, but that's fine with me. I appreciate the simple nature of this sytem and it sounds great right out of the box. True audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts will likely want to look at a more customizable system, but average users will be thrilled with the A7000 paired with the RS3S rear speakers.=== OVERALL ===Coming from Sony's previous soundbar (HT-ST5000), these are the speakers I wish I could have added to my system years ago. It's a shame that these aren't compatible with older Sony soundbar models, but I'm very glad that Sony has introduced them for its latest soundbar lineup. If you are an avid movie watcher, you will absolutely want to add these rear speakers to your new Sony soundbar setup. Highly recommended!

Good quality but no upward facing sound

Note that these rear speakers are being reviewed as part of the entire 7.1.2 channel speaker system including the HF-A7000 sound bar and SA-SW5 subwoofer. If Star Trek’s holodeck existed, this would be the sound system they use. My previous system was the Sony HT-Z9F, and I wanted a new sound bar that had a more memorable model number. That and the fact that my old one was no longer reliable. My previous system was the Sony HT-Z9F, and I wanted a new sound bar that had a more memorable model number. That and the fact that my old one was no longer reliable. Often, there would be a delay of 5 to 10 seconds before the sound would come through after turning on the TV.The setup of the A7000 system is about as easy as it gets. The wireless rears and subwoofer connect automatically to the sound bar. Once that’s done, you can run an auto-configuration in which the sound bar will play some tones to measure the speaker placement. No more pulling out a tape measure to check distance, though you still can if you want.I thought the sound of my old Z9F, however, was fantastic. But Sony has upped the sound quality even more in the A7000. The A7000 is a hefty sound bar and no doubt its size helps it create the enormous sound stage it produces. It has speakers that direct sound forward, upwards, as well as towards the side. And each of those speakers is engineered for hitting just the right acoustic. When connected to the wireless rear speakers and subwoofer, the result is a rich, full, sound the envelopes you. Watching UltraHD movies on Netflix, for example, makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the action.Sony also has a setting called Immersive Audio Enhancement (AE) to “convert” regular audio as if it were 7.1.2. Initially I thought it would sound too artificial. Obviously if the source signal is not 7.1.2, the sound bar can’t actually direct sound to the correct location. But once I got used to Immersive AE’s simulation, turning it off made the sound noticeably less rich.Like many sound bars, there is a separate volume setting to punch up the sound of voice. Whereas I had maxed out that setting on the Z9F, dialogue from the A7000 was perfectly discernible without needing to adjust the voice volume.Though the speaker system aims squarely for watching movies and shows, its 360 Reality Audio implementation is also remarkable for music services that offer premium quality sound: Amazon Music HD (included with their Unlimited plan), Tidal and Nugs.net. Though these services sound great with headphones, hearing this quality of music in a room speaker system is liberating. There are a couple of negatives, and for that, I’d really rate this as 4.5 stars. First, the rear spears sound great as expected, but they don’t fire upwards. Instead, they are standard configuration rears. Second, the 300W subwoofer is a beast and I can understand why it’s at additional cost. At the price point of the sound bar by itself, however, I think it would be a better value if Sony had at least included the 200W subwoofer, and perhaps the rear speakers as well.In any case, this system delivers premium sound with ease of install and ease of use. The sound bar by itself will enhance any room. But the addition of the wireless rear and subwoofer speakers adds an amazing dimension not to be missed.

Great rear speakers for Sony system

I have these to go along with the A5000 sound bar and they are a wonderful addition to my home theater setup. My first impression was how lightweight they are, very easy to mount on a wall if possible. Once plugged in, they are immediately ready to link with the sound bar, just hit the link button on the back and go through the setup process on the sound bar's tv menu. That's it, took two minutes to do.I have mine about 6 feet behind my sofa. I ran the room optimization tool on the sound bar and put them to the test. They sound amazing watching movies with Dolby Atmos. Clear, crisp and the perfect amount of sound to enhance the room. They are not to my liking for playing music however, but I don't think they are meant for that. No Regrets

HT-5000 paired with SW5 sub, rear SW3, and Bravia XBR75-Z9F. I was skeptical about this system due to the price but was pleasantly surprised. I couldn't justify the HT-7000 price for two more speakers and I'm happy with the HT-5000. Incredibly easy to set up. The range is excellent. The Atmos effect is incredibly pronounced. You must buy the entire system to have incredible sound. I connected the sound bar and subwoofer and thought I made a mistake with this purchase. It wasn't until I connected the rear speakers that the system came alive. Window rattling bass. Crystal clear dialogue. Music, movies, YT vids, even DTV sounds great. I have zero regrets. This is best setup besides a full component system.

The same is true after adding the rear speakers. The whole system took another leap forward. If you are spending the money to have Sonys best system then you do need to add these rear speakers. There are times now when watching a movie I have seen many times where I am completely surprised by the action happening behind me and all around me

This pair of speakers is an optional extension of Son'y new flagship series of soundbars. I highly recommend getting this additional rear speakers to extend the sound stage and clairity of your surround sound system. This will make movies much more entertaining! The rear speakers are simple to setup as they automatically pair to the soundbar when you turn them on. See the included review of the primary HT-A7000 soundbar below to understand how the entire system functions, I highly recommend getting both the optional rear speakers and subwoofer to compliment the entire system.Additional soundbard review:This compact soundbar gives you a 7.1.2 experience! With two up-firing speaker for overhead sound, two beam tweeters, five front speakers for winder surround, and a built-in subwoofer, you can’t ask for more in such a compact size. Utilizing Sony’s Surround Engine and S-Force PRO Front Surround, this system created virtual surround sound that comes from all around you, so you can enjoy the full immersion of your Dolby Atmos and DTS:X content. If you have any doubts on how well their Surround Engine works, find Sony’s demo video on YouTube showcasing the technology, it will blow you away!Technology size, this soundbar has endless connection options (HDMI, USB, Optical and Analog, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi streaming, Spotify Connect, Chromecast, Apple Airplay 2, and more), and supports up to 8K HDR pass-through content. Combined with High-Resolution Audio for crystal clear precision or their 360 Reality Audio, you can submerse yourself in an amazing live concert or studio session experience. Your music comes to life like never before! Sony utilizes Edge-AI (Artificial Intelligence) combined with DSEE Extreme (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) to upscale compressed digital music files in real time giving you unmatched sound quality. Upon setting the system up, you can let the system auto-configure all the settings for you using their Sound Field Optimization system. It uses the built-in microphones to intelligently measure the position of each speaker in your room. This fine tunes all of the sound technologies to deliver you the best experience possible.Setting up the soundbar takes no time at all, it’s almost ready to go straight out of the box. Simply plug it in, connect to your TV using the HDMI eARC connection and power it on. The quick on screen guide will run you through an auto configuration and have you listening in no time. Additionally, it has the capability to connect via USB, optical, or analog connections. It’s a little over 51 inches wide, 3.25 inches tall, and just over 5.5 inches deep. It’s total power output is 500 watts.I cannot stress more how much this device will blow you away. It has amazing clarity, hard to believe surround sound, and the compatibility is outstanding. I’ve listened to a wide arrange of content, from 4K Dolby Vision/Atmos movies, full surround concerts, or plain boring 2 channel content that is brought alive by the DSEE processing, this device does not disappoint. If you’re looking to expand this system even more, make sure you purchase the optional rear wireless speakers, and optional wireless larger subwoofer. The devices connect automatically and extend your listening pleasure even further.

The "up-firing" speakers reflect the sound off the ceiling, while the directional tweeters force sound outward to produce a sound that truly surrounds you.The unit comes with 2 HDMI + HDMI EARC, a USB port, optical-in, and an "S-center" port for use with a Sony TV which uses the TV's speakers to become your center channel (I do not have a Sony TV but imagine that this feature would be cool). Although the SA7000 is a little pricey, it provides an impressive sound that easily fills any room. Also includes voice control for use with Google or Alexa, and the blue-tooth allows you to pair it with your favorite music source, or you can "air play" directly to it.I ran across a couple negatives but they are minor. Like may sound bars, this one is tall and since my TV is on its own stand, the sound bar obscures the remote sensors of my TV.I ended up putting it behind my TV which probably limits it somewhat but it is still very impressive. Of course, this wouldn't be an issue if your TV was wall-mounted or if you mount the sound bar on the wall using the included template and brackets.I also receive my television signal "OTA" (over the air) paired with a Tivo. Unfortunately this created a delay issue between the audio and video where the mouths and voices do not match. I attempted to correct this in the TV (I have a Samsung) settings but this did not remedy the problem. The only solution I've found (so far) is to change the settings on the Tivo from Dolby to PCM. This took care of the sync issues but limits the Dolby options of the sound bar. If streaming directly through the TV, I do not have this sync issue. Maybe there is a better fix for this - I'll keep searching.I paired the sound bar with the optional surround speakers which was a definite plus. The speakers do a great job of producing sound that really feels like it is beside/behind you. They truly "surround" you and make you feel like you are part of the action.I also paired these with the optional SW5, which is a free-standing 300-watt subwoofer that will definitely thump. Alert the neighbors because this thing sounds incredible - just like a theatre minus the rumbling seats. It provides crisp, clear bass and really adds depth to the sound bar.I tested out the "immersive AE" on a 20-year-old movie (Pearl Harbor) to see how it would respond and was blown away. Planes flying around sounded as good as a movie theatre. The addition of the surround speakers and the subwoofer make this a superb system. The Sony SA7000 with subwoofer and surround speakers could possibly eliminate the need for an A/V receiver - it sounds that good!
