I bought the Dualsense Edge because as an avid gamer on both Xbox & Playstation I spend a lot of time gaming. I regularly use an Xbox Elite Series 2 controller and wanted the Playstation equivalent, which is the Dualsense Edge. It arrived promptly and on unpacking I noted it came with it's own portable case made of good solid plastic to protect it, keeping everything together if you want to take it to your friends. Everything you need is included in the box from the charging lead to the extra metal levers for the programmable buttons on the underside. Connection to the Playstation 5 is seamless. Just connect it via the lead to the PS5 and it is automatically detected. Their may be a software update when you first connect it but this is done automatically. The big question is how does it perform. From the moment you pick it up it feels like a quality product. It is slightly heavier than the standard controller, but not uncomfortably so. The removable joysticks feel great, and are fully adjustable both in sensitivity and tension, coming with a choice of levers. The triggers are also adjustable, with three settings, short travel for FPS games to longer travel for driving sims and the like. The entire controller is customizable using the Playstation App on the console, with complete button remapping, deadspot adjustment on the Joysticks, etc. I have to say I am extremely happy with the purchase. The only drawback really is the price. It is a heavy investment, but if you like a quality gaming experience and spend hours gaming like myself, it is worth the outlay in my opinion.

This Dualsense Edge controller is better than the regular dualsense controller, the main benefit being the back paddles. Out of a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this a 7.8. The controller and paddles seem very sturdy, but the biggest disadvantage is that there's only a maximum of 2 paddles for the back which is definitely insufficient. 4 paddle options for the rear would have made this worth the $216.00 price tag! I hope Sony didn't short us now only to release a "Pro Edge Elite" version down the line with 4 paddles! I play with my controllers plugged in so battery life is not an issue for me. I hope Sony didn't short us now only to release a "Pro Edge Elite" version down the line with 4 paddles! I play with my controllers plugged in so battery life is not an issue for me. The FN keys are a nice feature to quickly access the Edge settings and i would like to see other implementations to use these function buttons, perhaps adding them to the mapping board would be nice. The feature to adjust the Stick Sensitivity and Deadzones is the next best feature. This is a great advancement for shooter games like Apex and COD. Settings like the Quick, Dynamic, and Digital Curve Adjustments really make a difference for how your player movement and aim take effect in game. If you tweak these with the right in game settings as well, you can set up some godlike aim and movement (after getting use to it ofcourse)! I wish the controller was lighter, perhaps offering an option to sell some without the rumble would be nice. I also bought a Hypr Controller at the same time so while reviewing the Edge, i'm also comparing it to the Hypr one. I would have to give the upper hand to Hypr with a score of 8.3 and not without good reason. First off, the Hypr Controller cost me $250, has 4 remappable back buttons (not paddles, which makes it easier and more comfortable to hold). I had an option to customize my own colors and it's just like a stock dualsense except better because i had the option to remove the "rumble pack" which makes that controller light as a feather and the best thing to hold. The Quick mechanical triggers are far better than the Edge and, even the interchangeable toggles have a way better texture design and grip to them as opposed to the standard Sony toggle designs. The Hypr anti sweat grip option on the rear is also much better than the Edge's rear. The Edge in my opinion still feels a little slippery compared to Hypr's. So for me, there were more and also better options that Hypr offered only for $35 more which is not bad. The biggest concern ofcourse, is that there's no option to change the Joystick Module like the Edge has, so eventually, months down the line, this Hypr controller will become useless and need repair or replacement. If i'm not mistaken, there was a class action lawsuit against Sony for their stick drift issues on their controllers and it's nice to see Sony make them replaceable on the Dualsense Edge. I wasn't happy that my 2 regular Dualsense controllers suffered severe stick issues making them useless which prompted me to spend more money on newer controllers now. Also, the replaceable Toggles should cost more like $12 each and not $20. Thats almost a brand new regular dualsense for the price of 2 stick modules! Come on Sony! We already paid a premium price for a less advanced dualnsense edge compared to the competition out there, don't nickel and dime us for every bit of the pie! Needless to say the Hypr controller doesn't feel as sturdy as the Edge controller, the mute button and option buttons are difficult to press in which make the craftmanship a little questionable. Hypr is located out of the US so it takes a while for build and delivery. More importantly, i have switched between both controllers during games and for some reason, my aim is more accurate and laser like with the Hypr one. I've tested this out A Lot and i still don't get why because there is no option to make extra Curve Adjustments for the Hypr controller, its just like a stock dualsense. But, for whatever reason, Aiming and shooting my targets especially on Apex is always more accurate with the Hypr controller. I expect this to get worse as the controller gets the inevitable stick drift though. So for this reason, and because it has more options to customize for performance (removable rumble, 4 remappable buttons, quick triggers, rear grip, grippy toggles), and comfortableness, Hypr gets a higher score but it's not too far from the Dualsense edge in utility. Sony has the upper hand with the replaceable stick modules, but, will the rest of the controller hold up over time? I guess only time will tell. So in summary, the Dualsense Edge is a great controller but when it's put against the other competitors for Performance Controllers, it's still lacking in some features and design. There are some great steps foward but also a couple backwards steps as well. If Sony plays things correctly, things can only get better going foward for future iterations!

Compared to the stock DualSense it is slightly heavier, but otherwise feels practically the same in-hand.Battery life is stated to be slightly lower, but I honestly don't notice a difference, it still lasts plenty long. The added function of shortening the max trigger distance for the L2/R2 buttons is quite nice, but isn't of much use for me since I always flip the shoulder button layout for shooters to aim and fire with L1/R1.The back paddle buttons feel good and durable. They are made from metal. I personally like the half domed shape over the lever style. They feel and function far better than Scuf's or any other poorly made 3rd party controller company's back buttons. The ability of being able to swap out the entire analog mechanism seems pretty pointless ... MoreCompared to the stock DualSense it is slightly heavier, but otherwise feels practically the same in-hand.Battery life is stated to be slightly lower, but I honestly don't notice a difference, it still lasts plenty long. The added function of shortening the max trigger distance for the L2/R2 buttons is quite nice, but isn't of much use for me since I always flip the shoulder button layout for shooters to aim and fire with L1/R1.The back paddle buttons feel good and durable. Also with this new modular design I can see more problems occuring in the long run that would be much harder to fix. I do however like the ability the swap out the thumb stick shapes to the classic DualShock 3 style. There are 2 new "fn" function keys to create and change profiles for custom control layouts. I always use my first layout so I never use these buttons, but it might be useful for some. For the advantages this controller offers over the base DualSense, I'd say it's far too overpriced. Really the only thing you're paying for is the additional of having back buttons, which I don't think are even that useful for shooters since I've been doing jump and drop shots at a high level for over a decade with just the face buttons, and don't feel at all that I'm at a disadvantage that use back buttons. But if you're someone that needs the back buttons, this controller is far batter than all the other well known 3rd party options.

You could return to best buy, but more than likely you're next controller will suffer this same issue, which will most likely result in a refund (rightfully so)2. Sony doesn't allow you to specify what exactly is wrong with the controller during return. People are on their THIRD RETURN while Sony continues to blindly try to rectify your controllers issue. Marginal success from some who have received a unit with proper feeling face buttons.A teardown of the Dualsense edge on YouTube proves the design in rubber used under the face buttons have changed, which is could have something to do with the issue - but doesn't explain why a larger amount of people don't have this issue and why each unit has a specific set of mushy face buttons.Outside of that gamble, if you're willing to take a chance:Build quality is great (minus the biggest issue)Feels solid, heavier and a big more precise in terms of grip and feel. I am a PC user, so I only get a portion of what the controller has to offer until more DSX third party support comes alongAccessories are neat, storage case is solid, feels like it's gonna be dirty in a month.I just feel ripped off when my PS4 face buttons feel more crisp and sharp than a $200 controllers who's quality control seems missing, being as this issue only plaguing more people as purchases happen.Open box units are probably from people dealing with this issue, so don't buy open box either.
Very premium feel and look. High quality hardshell case holding all attachements and controller adds to value of the purchase. Added texturized grip on the back of the controller gives it a very nice feel. Not sure how i will feel about the glossy front plate around the anolog sticks (sure it will fingerprint easily) but for now makes the controller look very nice. Extra buttons on the back are probably the biggest change to how you can use the controller. Probably the biggest selling point along that and swappable analog sticks. Even can switch out stick tops to give the classic dualshock feel during the ps1-ps3 days if thats your preference. Glad i got it so far after a day of use. Worth mentioning that the ps5 allows you to make multiple “loadouts” for your controller mapping even changing the response curve of the sticks as well as trigger deadzones. That being said while those options are appreciated its hard to notice a difference between settings. What is noticable are the Stoppers for the triggers along with swappable back buttons. Alot to play around with to make your controller perfect for you, recommended for people who play FPS games. Taking one star away because of the noticable decrease on battery life compared to the regular dualsense. This to many is likely the most important factor and is undoubtedly worse than a contoller that is basically a third of the price. Not for everyone, and the price tag is high, but most people considering getting this controller will be satisfied with their purchase. Not recommended for casual gamers, especially who play primarily single player games.

The grip on the back and sides make it feel comfortable to hold, rather than how the regular DualSense causes cramps. The fact that you can change out the sticks is a bonus, as I’ve had 2 controllers develop stick drift and another start to feel like an unoiled hinge, creaking. The half-circle back buttons feel great as it fits best for my hands where I won't accidentally press them like I would with my Elite & Elite 2 for the Xbox. The long dome knob is a great addition too for those who already have their muscle memory to those from playing with an Elite 2 remote.I do like the trigger locks to adjust how far you need to pull the trigger, it’s very useful for specific games. I LOVE that they still work with the adaptive triggers while that's in effect. The buttons feel the same as with the original controllers so not much of a change there, but the touchpad does feel much nicer. The case is sturdy and feels like it can survive most impacts and won't need to worry. It has an area you can attach a small lock to the zipper or you can use a carabiner as I do with my headset & controller cases when I need to travel. The case also has a Velcro strap area to attach a USB-C wire to charge directly into the controller while not using it. It’s similar to the Elite Series 2 but that one uses a magnetic base to charge while allowing you to plug it directly into the controller. The last pro might be the most important. The software involved is great compared to many other controller customization software. It’s a little rough in certain spots but it’s great for what it is. Allows you to change how much you need to press for the triggers before it registers, allows you macro every button, and changes the type of slope for the sticks, including their dead zone. All these things are great for specific customizations for specific profiles for the controller. Here are the cons.Cons:While you can change out the sticks, the plastic that gets pressed in doesn’t seem very strong. It looks like it might be an issue down the road if one of the teeth bends or breaks and you have to replace the entire accessory pack with a new stick module. The battery is about 2/3 as long as the regular DualSense controller (DualSense is around 1,560 mAH while the DualSense Edge is 1,050 mAH). So it won’t last nearly as long if you utilize features like the gyroscope or the adaptive triggers. It does come with a USB-C lock to keep your wire attached to it while gaming, so when it runs low you don’t have to worry about it dying. It is something I very much love about it but I don’t think the battery will last more than 4+ years if it is what you use every day.The FN keys are great but one arrived loose which made me return it for a replacement since I could see that being an issue later on. But the features it has is still A1, even better than the Xbox’s version. Conclusion: I would recommend this controller to everyone to anyone who spends a lot of time gaming on a PS5 or PC (and only uses a controller and can wait for updates to make it more compatible with a PC). It is an almost perfect addition to any PS5 setup and if you find the DualSense uncomfortable, this will help alleviate those issues. For me, the Elite Series 2 is the best controller but I am a primary PlayStation gamer so it has been rough. If you are tall, heavy, or just have large hands you will understand that issue that many remotes cause. This DualSense Edge is comfortable enough for long periods of gaming and will make anyone happy to receive this. Thank you for reading such a long review, but I figured having and playing with it every day since it came out would give some insight into why this is such an awesome controller.
In the aftermarket gaming pad scene there isn't much in the way of quality under 300$. With scuf controllers running 300CAD+, Aim controller running 400CAD+ and Battle Beaver sitting somewhere in between. The PlayStation dual sense edge isn't jaw dropping, but it is an overall good design. I would say the best feature being the removable analog sticks for replacement removing the obscelence of the controller once your stick drift takes over your gaming experience completely. I willl say however if you're going to remove obselences in one area you might as well do it in another. I can foresee the back buttons wearing quicker than usual over time due to the nature of rapid and contonual use. And since they aren't replaceble, I reckon you will still be replacing this ... MoreIn the aftermarket gaming pad scene there isn't much in the way of quality under 300$. I can foresee the back buttons wearing quicker than usual over time due to the nature of rapid and contonual use. And since they aren't replaceble, I reckon you will still be replacing this controller every 6 - 9 months based on your play time. With these controllers targetting "serious gamers" and competitive shooter gamers at that, it is likely that these buttons will be mapped to jump and or slide which are 2 of the most used movement per minute in comp FPS games. At a price point of 300$ after tax, I would have expected the integration of 4 back paddles however this controller only comes with 2.The FN buttons seem overall useless however I understand the idea behind them. One FN button would have worked fine and in a different location. Perhaps the back where it can't be seen. Perhaps they were included to justify the price of the replacement analog sticks as they are a part of the anolog stick. The analog stick mounting design is the best I've seen in any replaceable analog design as they're secure and hidden from wear and tear.Overall I am content with this purchase but not amazed or "floored" by any means. A company like Sony is capable of producing excellent products and I'm interested to see how the longevity of this controller holds up. If I can get 1 year out of the controller I will be satisfied with my purchase however I likely won't purchase again as Scuf controllers designs are far superior, add 10x the customization, and offer 4 back buttons/paddles. I understand that 4 may seem overwhelming and unnecessary however if you are going to spend the money, please purchase a controller with 4 paddles, take 2 off to start and then when you're comfortable with 2 more, add them. It is not easy to learn 4 new paddles at once it is much easier to learn 2 and then add 2.I have 180 days of play time between warzone 1 and warzone 2, and hold warzone records for highest kills in trio Quads.Overall 3/5 due to pricing, lack of buttons, forseeable planned obscelence, and Lak of customization offered by other aftermarket companies.
Hardware: The controller is well made as it’s a direct from Sony product. It comes with a nice looking, semi hard case that houses your controller and swappable parts. It comes with trigger stops, rounded or flat “r3/l3” stick caps, and both paddles and buttons for you rear inputs which are all easily interchangeable.Software: Your PlayStation recognizes it’s an Egde controller the first time you plug it in and it takes you through a brief tutorial then lets you set up your back button inputs. You can set up different profiles and each profile can have up to 5 “change in the fly” configurations for each profile but you can also change your configs at any time through the settings menu.Issues: Initially, I bought this product direct from Sony when it first came ... MoreHardware: The controller is well made as it’s a direct from Sony product. I play FPS games 10-20 hours per week and I started to get stick drift after ~6 months. Plus, the back paddle that I use for “crouch” started inputting the same input as the other paddle that I use for “jump” so I couldn’t slide without bunny hopping. I tried taking the sticks and paddles off and cleaning out the controller with a cotton swab but it didn’t help. I’m not a rager, I don’t drop or throw my controller so my advice is, if you game frequently, would 100% purchase the Best Buy product protection plan when getting this product.Price: Even as a pretty avid gamer who is fortunate enough to have disposable income paying $200+ for a controller is a tough pill to swallow. Especially since a standard Ps5 controller is nearly 1/3 of the price. This is the only thing keeping this product from being rated a 5/5.TL;DR: The controller is fantastic. The price is really high. Definitely get the Best Buy protection plan.
I like a lot of things about this controller so far. It feels high quality, with neat minor details here and there, like textured grip on the handles and buttons.Pros: The case it comes in is really nice with an opening at the top so you can charge your controller while it's safely stored inside. Everything it comes with fits inside the case as well so you don't need to keep a mostly empty box in your closet for the rare day you need a part. Speaking of accessories, it comes with four convex joystick caps (two long and two normal length) in the case and two normal length concave joystick caps attached. The texture on them is great and I actually prefer the convex caps over the concave ones in this case. It has a space in the case for a spare joystick module, I ... MoreI like a lot of things about this controller so far. It doesn't come with the spare, there's just a space, so I can't be sure that's what it's for, but that's what it looks like. The joystick module is arguably the best feature of this controller because with this controller if you experience stick drift, replacing your joystick is simpler than ever.Cons: My only complaint is that it only allows for two buttons on the back instead of four. Most other "pro" controllers allow for four buttons on the back. The two buttons on the bottom are just function buttons and both have the same function, and cannot be mapped to another button as far as I'm aware. The "short" battery life isn't a concern to me because it's about 7.5 hours, which is plenty for me, and it's 'easy' (for me at least) to upgrade that battery, plus the controller comes with a high quality, 9 ft, braided cable, with a locking mechanism. This controller is definitely worth the money if you want two extra buttons on the back, adjustable triggers, customizable buttons and joysticks built into the controller, and premium case, and some other functions.
Im part of the new wave of gamers that finally got their hands on a PS5. Coming from an Xbox Series X, i had the elite 2 wireless controller which is awesome and wanted a playstation equivalent. Therefore the dualsense edge was just what i needed. The level of customisation, the og dualsense has flat analogues which are ok but compared to the rounded grip anaolgue sticks of different height that come with the dualsense edge are so grippy and comfortable i don't think i can ever go back. Not to mention the the customisable back buttons paddles or domes are so useful, the system wide integration and all the usual dualsense features such as adaptive triggers and haptics is just perfect. Not to mention the the customisable back buttons paddles or domes are so useful, the system wide integration and all the usual dualsense features such as adaptive triggers and haptics is just perfect. The way you can change the triggers and analogue stick deadzones to suit your gaming style or get the upper edge in shooting games is awesome.I specifically got it in time for Resident Evil 4 remake, and it has been a joy to use, i set up the back paddles to be parry and reload, set the right hair trigger to the lowest setting and using the rounded analogue sticks, taller one for aiming and setting the deadzones to quick and digital respectively has just changed playing the game completely compared to the vanilla controller. The only downside is battery life, itll be low on battery withing 2/3 hrs of a intensive gaming session. But the included cable lock works perfectly, allowing you to continue playing whilst charging the controller without adding too much bulk, plus the included cable is plenty long which is always great.Overall im genuinely so happy, and ive only just scratched the surface, the fact i can make custom profiles for all my games and swap them out on the fly is something i loved from Xbox Series X and now its finally on the PS5 too and somehow even better than the elite 2. Its awesome, feels premium and don't regret getting at all.
