I use this with my Sony A850 for landscape, flowers and sometimes wildlife/birds photography. This lens rocks!!! Silent and fast Auto focus. Image quality is fantastic. I have used it with Tamron 1.6x TC, surprisingly it does AF in bright daylight, but the Image quality is bit soft. The range is short for wildlife photography, if cost is not an issue and intended use is wildlife photography, look at Sony 70-400 G. If you are looking for a lightweight telephoto lense you can't go wrong with this gem. I have used it with Raynox DCR 250 for macro and got amazing results.

This lens was actually new and in the box. Never opened. G SSM so it focuses very quickly. Images are sharp. Very happy with this purchase!

Robust build with superior glass! Image quality is razor-sharp! Kudos to the Sony engineering staff! Currently mated to a Sony A-77 and the camera is a good match for the lens.

Purchased this lens as an upgrade from a low-cost crop factor lens. By comparison, this lens is well-built and feels substantially more solid. It's larger than my previous zoom but this should be expected since this is a full frame lens. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase. Better low light performance would be great but such lenses are typically substantially more expensive, heavier, and larger than this unit.
Small max. aperture but this allows a relatively compact size and low weight, making this a practical carry lens and easy to hand-hold. The viewfinder image is still bright in my A850. Focusing is very fast despite this being the original, not the SSM II, version. The slim barrel extends when zooming which in combination with the incredibly deep lens hood combines to create the deeply unfashionable "drain-pipe" look at the 300mm mark, however this is more than mitigated by excellent image quality at any aperture. Very good build quality. Good Handling. A great combination of practicality and performance for a zoom lens with this range and reach. Recommended.
This is the cheapest long reach lens for Sony full frame at the moment.. Despite the fact that the lens extends a fair way out it is nicely balanced on my A7ii. The images are very sharp at both 300 and 70 at open. Close down a little and every thing is pin sharp. Don't believe all the bad press about this lens. It's got more reach than the 70-200f4 and it's seems just as sharp to me. Very happy with this lens.
I bought this lens to replace the cheaper 75-300 sony lens I bought with a previous sony SLR. I was looking for a better quality lens and I believe the 70-300 is it, very quiet, very quick focus, great image quality. It's a hefty lump, but looks impressive on the camera. The lens seems to struggle initially with focus, but gets better when it's "warmed up", with the benefit of simultaneous auto and manual focus, even when cold it's easy to help the auto focus find the sweet spot. It's worth shopping around, the price of this lens can vary by several £100s.
Lens externally is in great visual condition. Upon rotating the focus ring you can tell there is a small granular/gritty sound inside the focus ring itself which is unfortunate and was not stated in the details nor commented on when asked about the operation of the focus ring. When the servo is driving the lens it's not audible otherwise I'd be getting rid of it.
Great lens in good lightVery sharp and highly recommended. Optically excellent and focus limiter is very good. Performance is excellent, but the 300mm can be limiting for birding. It is priced much too high compared to other lenses of similar optical quality. So this reduces overall rating as its price/performance ratio is poor. Ie value for money is not that goodIf money is not an issue then buy one.
I was a little worried about the crack on the lens, but so far so good. if you get this lens for e-mount be sure to get sony adapters, and the new models to help to get more from this lens. I recommend it to save some money. I am happy. thank you
