Standard enlargement of full frame images there yields fuzzy images whose detail is not appreciated until enlarged.... a lot. I will enjoy my new camera and lens eventually as I become a better photographer. I know, I know, the camera does not make the photographer. I'm staying with SONY and am becoming a smarter consumer.

I'm using a Sony a92 with the 70-200 Mark2 with the 2X. The camera functions that I use are:-Open to f5.6 (f2.8, other settings will work).-APC Mode (Custom button).-I then set another of my custom buttons to the Steady Shot Adjust. to Manual at 600mmBy doing that, I can switch between the long lens and my other lenses at the push of a button as I switch lenses.I use small or medium tracking; I'm getting sharp images at the equivalent of 600mm which can still be cropped if necessary.FWIW: I've found that it still focuses pretty well even on Wide or Zone for moving subjects. Combined with setting on Mode 3 on the lens, it does improve the hit ratio a bit more.I personally think that, for me; it's a pretty good investment.

So, in a nutshell, know your application and only get teleconverters if you think that they are worth the hit you are going to take on speed of focus, loss of light or possible softness you may run into while using a zoom lens.

It works perfectly with the specified Sony lens and bodies I've used with A9 and A1 & the Sony 200-600mm for wildlife. In good light it provides amazing reach! The cost is two full stops feels like more so on a dark day or too late or too early it's going to be hard to use. This is why some of the pros buy that beautiful but very expensive Sony 600mm prime. I already had the 1.4TC and I'm glad I added this to my kit.I was shooting Elk during the day and had to work from a distance and the added reach really did help me get some great photos. It fits perfectly and the camera AF performance seems unaffected. It wasn't available for a while and I'm glad I can choose no TC, 1.4 or 2.0 when using my biggest lens.
If you accept that these aren't for making really far away things closer, but rather making reasonably close things frame filling, then its a fantastic bit of kit. If it's too far to get a clean shot of with the 600mm straight out, this won't magically make that possible. Atmospheric interference, stray light, micro tremors... yeah, turning your rig into a telescope with a camera on it isn't optimal for long long distance. But if you're in that good range for the 600 and just want the subject bigger? Insanely good. Negligible IQ loss which is more than compensated for by the reduction, if not elimination, of cropping.On the 100-400, it is just pure magic all around. I haven't had enough time with this teleconverter to do an in depth review, but I will say that I bought this item to fit to a 200-600mm telephoto lens SEL200600G and they work together, although I seem to lose a good amount of light. I bought it for reach, and I'm happy with it so far. Just need a little more time with it. It seems a great addition to keep in your set up as you upgrade..I'd mostly like to review this company B&H and attest to the excellent service. They get an A . Incredible shipment speed. An in stock notification was emailed to me at a more than reasonable amount of time, and the online order was easy. Item shipped and received, what seemed, very well ahead of schedule. Purchased this 2.0 Teleconverter for use with my Sony 100-400mm GM lens expecting great things. Was highly disappointed in the photo's I get with it. Can never get a Sharp image, ALWAYS Blurry. So either I have a defective one, or they just don't do well with the 100-400mm lens. I did however, rent a 200-600 Sony lens and got very good results with it. So if you plan on using it for the 100-400mm, Save your money and don't. Get the 1.4x instead.

About 2/3 of images were in focus or close enough. That is the typical scenario for this converter.Images below were with the A7r4 with 200-600 @ 600, 2x converter, f11, ISO 2000, 90% crop. Topaz Deniose AI and Sharpen AI. Not museum grade, but better than straight ID photos.Without the converter, or with the 1.4 converter, would not be usable.

I tested it with Sony a9 II on a Sony 100-400 F 4.5-5.6 lens. It makes it F11.0 Tested it mostly on Bird In Flight and also static Birds with small movement. Focus acquisition is good against flying bird against blue sky. Did not have a chance to try it against water or green foliage. Sharpness and detail are very good with the aforementioned combo.I also tried it on a Sony 200-600 lens. It makes it to be F13.0 which puts it into diffraction zone. It works but I won't recommend using it on that lens much. I also tried it with a Sony a7R IV camera.On the 200-600 lens the Sony a7R IV hunts at continuous focus but works with the Sony 100-400 lens. I will use it with the Sony a9 II camera and Sony 100-400 lens 99 percent of the time.
