This feature might be very useful for a home-based karaoke evening.Reading the comprehensive spec sheet I see that you can plug in a guitar and use it as an amplifier, adding even more to the unit's range of uses.

You play your music from Apple Music, Amazon Music, and google music. Then turn up the mic volume (back side of the speaker) and start singing Karaoke. From the Fiestable app in Karaoke section you can control the pitch of your voice , the speed/pitch of the song, echo/reverb of you singing, and lower or eliminate the singing voice of the song your playing (not yours). All I can say is we had so much fun singing to every song we played and there is a ranking button that ranks your singing. WOW this speaker is a blast and best of all it’s battery powered and claims over 20 hours on battery. The lights were flashing to the song (you can change lighting effects)I ordered a second mic to do duets that’s how much fun this speaker is and the sound quality again is just outstanding.

And this speaker delivers on all three. It is big and heavy which is good for a party speaker that will be on the floor where the party is happening. I am still able to comfortably carry it with one hand using the handle, so moving it isn't an issue. The max volume is loud - but there is still very little distortion when the volume gets high. I plan on using this outdoor mainly so the loud volume will be great to fill a big open space like that. The IPX4 water resistance rating will make sure that it'll survive close proximity to the pool which is great peace of mind too!The lighting effects are ... MoreWhile I own other Bluetooth speakers, this is the first party speaker I have ever owned. Since I will be using this mostly outdoors in the daytime, the light effects aren't as important to me, but when the parties go into the evening, I'm sure they'll be nice to have. The rated battery life of 25 hours is also quite good - more than enough to make it through any party, The speaker also has a battery care feature that will only charge the battery to 90% to help maintain the long term battery capacity.Overall sound quality is very good, even at high volumes and built in Mega Bass effect is not overpowering, but just right. I havenTo sum it up, this is a great party speaker with great features even if you don't need the kareoke options.

In my opinion, it comes in far below what they advertise. Here's a list:Battery - while they say up to 25 hours, I have to imagine that means with bluetooth turned off, running a wire from your device to play the music directly at very low volume with the lights turned off. In my testing with only low volume indoor play through bluetooth with the lights on, I get about 12-14 hours. I imagine at higher volumes, you're only going to get 8 hours or so.Set-up - I would imagine that setting up an outdoor party would likely mean putting this on a speaker-stand, but it does not have a simple indentation on the bottom of the speaker to allow this to happen. Further exemplifying the lack of consideration on the set-up, all of the controls are on the top of the device. If you set this up on the floor you can see the controls, but the audio is blasting at the guests' legs. Set it up on a table and you'll have some height to it, but you cannot see the controls.Connections - They advertise being able to connect a microphone and guitar to play out, but the sound quality through the line-in for the guitar is terrible. It is completely hollow and tinny sounding, losing all of the low-end EQ of the instrument no matter how you adjust any EQ going in. They also say you can connect a microphone, but what they should specify is you can only connect a low-grade microphone unless you get an adapter. Microphones use an XLR cable with three prongs, while this only has a 1/4" input like you would use for a guitar or bass. I don't have a crappy microphone, so I cannot test the sound, but if you're using this to play music in public, hopefully you're beyond using a poor microphone.Volume control - You can set it and forget it, but hopefully you won't have to change apps or stop the music and restart at any time. When I do this, the volume comes back randomly at very low or very high levels. I've started a podcast and been blasted out of the room by the volume, or started music and not been able to hear it when it starts. There is some manner of internal volume control which seems to set randomly whenever you start audio. You can adjust this with the + and - signs on top of the device when you start up as this volume control seems to be entirely independent from the volume of the source (not usually the case when connected by bluetooth).Voice Announcements - When you do have this playing, you will start to get "low battery" announcements when you reach only 40% power remaining. Really??? If you're using this at a party, you're going to get audible reminders to charge while you still have almost half-battery? That, or they blatantly mis-state the battery level in the app. This may be good for some people, but generally I'd recommend going with another brand that knows what they are doing with live audio.

There are rubber feet in two places (on the bottom and one side) allowing the speaker to be used either upright or on its side.Construction-wise, the bulk of the main body is a dark charcoal plastic while the front speaker grill is metal. The control panel features a large physical power button while the rest of the controls are capacitive. Dimensionally, the speaker stands 22” tall with an approximate 10.5” X 11.5” footprint and weighs 24.4lbs.Inside the rear panel, you’ll find two 6.35mm jacks that can be used for microphones or instruments, as well as volume levels for those jacks. There is also a 3.5mm input and a USB-A port that can be used for playback from a USB flash drive as well as charging a mobile device (when the speaker is powered on). Additionally, you’ll find the C7 port for charging the speaker here.Once paired to the device of your choice, the upper control panel offers basic control of the device, such as Play/Pause, Next, Last, Volume Up/Down and changing the input source. Additionally, the colored LED lights, concealed in the handles, as well as the Bass Boost can be enabled or disabled here.Regarding performance, the sound quality is excellent, offering crisp highs, thumping lows, and more than enough volume for the patio at your next pool party. Battery life is advertised at 25hrs, which is possible in my testing. Note that, enabling the lights and using higher volumes will reduce this. The speaker does offer “Party Connect” so that you can use multiple speakers at the same time. Unfortunately, this is a Sony-specific feature and I didn’t have any other Sony Bluetooth speakers to test this with.A couple of critiques: To fully access all of the speaker’s features requires the installation of 2(!) apps on your device: The ‘Sony Music Center’ app and the ‘Fiestable’ app. These apps aren’t required for basic operation, but they are the only way to access things like different light modes or change things like power settings. Also, there is no visual battery life indicator on the speaker nor is the battery life visible via the BlueTooth connection. You must either press the Battery button under the rear hatch (speaker verbally announces the approximate battery life) or install the ‘Sony Music Center’ app on your phone. All in all, the Sony XV500 is a great sounding party speaker that offers excellent sound and battery life and plenty of connectivity.

[Rewarded Review] Great sound with powerful bass to enjoy

As its title suggests, the Sony SRS-XV500 Wireless Party Speaker is a perfect companion for your parties and social gatherings, indoors and outdoors. With a powerful bass, ease of connection, crisp and clear sound, different light configurations, portability to move it around, to name a few highlights, you and your friends can have a blast with it. Vocals, with and without Echo effect, are nicely heard (provided you have a decent Mic) making it ideal for Karaoke performances. You can even enjoy music on your own or provide ambience music for the whole family. You can even enjoy music on your own or provide ambience music for the whole family. With the Sony Music Center App, you can seamlessly configure and control the Sony XV500, switching the playback among connected devices with ease. The Sony XV500 is portable, but it feels a little heavy, so not ideal for the long haul. Nevertheless, I think for battery life and the nice sound, the added weight is not a major issue in the end. I look forward to hosting my next dance and karaoke parties with my friends.- Pros: portable, deep mega bass, overall great sound, long battery life, rapid charge, easy to switch playback devices.- Cons: portable but heavy for long hauls.>> Setup.Nothing out of the ordinary for setting up the Sony XV500 Speaker. The XV500 can be used right out of the box, connect it to a device through Audio-In input or simply plug-in a USB stick with audio media in it and use the controls at the top of the Sony XV500 to control the source, volume, light and bass; in addition, you can directly connect one or two microphones and/or a guitar, and use the controls in the back for volume an effects. It is expected that most people use Bluetooth connectivity, with a phone or any other Bluetooth capable device, to connect to the Sony XV500. Once connected and to add an extra degree of control and access the more advanced configuration options, you’d want to install the Sony Music Center App on the main device that you intend to use, in my case that device is my phone. So far, having used it with my phones and laptops, the signal has been reliable with great sound quality.>> Connections. The device provides three main connectivity options, Bluetooth, Audio-In and USB. In addition, a primary Mic input with volume and Echo options is available; as well as another input for Guitar (could also be used for a secondary Mic) with volume and Effect options. One thing to note is that the Sony XV500 doesn’t come with Optical Input. I have older TVs for which I like using Optical Output to connect to external speakers. For these, I have used the regular Audio-In input to connect.>> Mega Bass.I’d say the bass is one of the most prominent characteristics of the Sony XV500, its sound and feel is just so powerful. If you are indoors, the Megas Bass setting makes it feel like being at the disco (well perhaps not that much “noise” as in the disco), the vibration is felt going through all your body, perfect to play some tunes and get right into dancing. Personally, I’ve been using this mode to listen to my favorite rock tunes, the sound and feeling of the songs are just so enjoyable. One of the highlights of this device, to enjoy and have fun with friends and even just alone!>> Switching connected devices. You can have multiple devices connected to the Sony XV500 Speaker and easily switch among them for playback (of course, just a single device at a time). You can do so with the Sony Music Center App, as well as with the controls at the top of the speaker, and select Bluetooth, Audio-In or USB. The Sony App gives you more versatility, though, as you can not only select any of the three input options, but within the Bluetooth option, you can have several devices connected to the Sony XV500, and you can choose any of them as playback device. This last feature comes very handy when different people have different music selections that they want to play or sing along with, and so it is easier to switch the playback to come from their own devices.>> Mic and Guitar (second mic) inputsBoth Mic inputs have volume control, which is very convenient when the Mics used (or guitar for that matter) don’t have their own volume controls. The main Mic has an echo function to highlight your words or song lyrics. For karaoke, you’d need a decent Mic to avoid any interference that can get in the way of enjoying the sound coming from this device. I am planning on buying a couple of UHF wireless Mics that will hopefully provide a better experience than having wired Mics.>> Sound compared to other party speakers. We own another party speaker, different brand, a little smaller, and boy you can tell the difference in Sound quality. For a party, the Sony XV500 with its bass makes the difference, its sound surpasses expectations when compared to our other party speaker. The extra weight and size of the Sony XV500, for sure, helped with a way better overall sound.>> Sony Music Center AppOverall, the Sony Music Center App has all the options needed to control the device. You can adjust the different settings, sound, light, even access an equalizer for custom sound configuration. There are only a couple of small issues I mention below. The Sony App lacks Mic control. It'd be nice to control the mic volume and effects, as well the Guitar input (or second mic), through the App, as opposed to having to go to the speaker and do the adjustments. I think I'll be buying a pair of those UHF mics that come with their own volume controls, to make it easier to adjust volume. The other issue is one “glitch” in the Sony Music Center App. When you only have one Bluetooth device connected and you want to change playback from Audio-In to Bluetooth, the Bluetooth device cannot be “reselected” for playback (as it is already selected), so you either need to press the Bluetooth button at the top of the speaker (walk to the speaker) or in the App Music Center you need to mark the Bluetooth device as being “fixed” (you can unfix it later on anyways). Now, if you have multiple Bluetooth devices connected, then you can select another non-selected Bluetooth device and go back to the one that was selected before. This is a little inconvenient for sure.

[Rewarded Review] Ideal party speaker with plenty of bass.

This is the 1st “party speaker” that I’ve ever tried, previously I have had an old Hi-Fi system from the 80’s, ear buds, headphones, a TV sound bar and recently a mains powered 360 spatial speaker. This XV500 is designed for a whole different type of listening experience. It’s a solidly built unit and weighs in around 11 kilos which gives it a nice solid mass but also keeps it “portable” for shorter distances. There are a range of connections and inputs so if you are having a party, the best feature is that the speaker is splash proof for those spilt drinks and the odd bit of rain if you’re outside in the UK!There is a handy slot on the top to stand your tablet, iPad, mobile phone or other media players in. And, if you are “old-school” then you can even connect via the aux-in mini jack connection behind a splash-proof cover on the rear of the unit. There is also a USB port which you can use to charge a device or play music from a pen-drive.The main control panel is a range of touch controls except for the power button, which a reassuring rubber push button. You can select the input method from Bluetooth, audio-in or USB. Note that the USB, Audio in are behind a rubber cover on the rear, but there are also input ports for a microphone and guitar each with their own rotary volume controls and effect controls. Also on the top of the unit there are the volume controls, play/pause button (which doubles up as skip forward or reverse), mega bass and the light button. The LED arrays are hidden in the handles, which looks really cool when it synchs with the beat of the music. The light option does kick out a nice effect in low light conditions but I would save the battery during the day! The built in battery only takes approx. 3 hours to fully charge and can last up to 25 hours depending upon a variety of options. It obviously consumes the power more quickly if the listening volume, mega bass, and light shows are all running at the same time. There is a Stamina button that helps extend the battery life by preventing the lights and limiting the output, but for me there won’t be many situations where I would want to party for that long. If you did you can always run it directly off the mains connection. At maximum volume you do get a bit more volume on mains electricity, but personally I wouldn’t need to run it at that level. This is a good speaker for outside use or larger capacity rooms because it has a thumping bass and extra ‘Mega Bass’ available if required. I already have the Sony Music Centre and once connected that gave me further options with the lights, power, and sound. There is also another app “Fiestable” which will link to any supported mobile and allow a range of controls and displays, but probably isn’t something I intend to use.The overall sound is very good and the wide range of connectivity gave me plenty to choose from. I’ve used it in the garden, my home office, and the kitchen diner area. The only caution would be to ensure that you’re on good terms with the neighbours when using it at high volume outside!

I should start by saying, I don’t think a 50+ year old couple of empty nesters is necessarily the target demographic for the XV500 X-Series Wireless Party Speaker. However, as young at heart people who like listening to music, singing along and playing music, and enjoy doing so out of doors with our family and friends (when the Scottish weather allows), we’ve been comprehensively won over. The XV500 is neither small nor particularly lightweight and comes in quite a big box. There’s very little to unwrap – the unit itself and two power cables (UK and EU). The instructions are very sparse however we had no problem setting up the Bluetooth connection to our iPhones, which unlocks the core music playing features. Following the QR code in the fold out diagrammatic guide, we were able to quickly download the Sony Music Centre and Fiestable Apps. The former provides the basic control functionality to connect to your music streaming service, in our case straight through to Apple Music with no problems and also provides control functionality over sound and light. There is however no remote control, so you need to have your phone to hand or control the functions from the unit. That’s not a problem, with the only minor gripe being the unit needs to be powered on and off manually. The Fiestable App provides what might best be described as the party functionality. We didn’t find it particularly slick or intuitive and as we could access most of what we wanted via Music Centre, I don’t think it’s something we’ll use particularly much but is something that might appeal to a younger audience. It's worth noting that a more detailed help guide can be accessed on-line using the second QR code in the fold out diagrammatic guide. So far, we’ve been able to do everything we want to do, with the possible exception of the Karaoke functionality. Being Singstar veterans on our PlayStation, it’s fair to say the XV500 isn’t as much fun. We’re not entirely sure that we’re using it correctly (and this is where we might have benefitted from more guidance, though hopefully we’ll find something on Youtube in due course), however we connected our Bravia TV to the XV500 using Bluetooth. Our streaming device gave us both a source of music and lyrics to sing along to. We’ll experiment over time to see what’s available, but it’s fair to say even with these limitations, a good time was had by all.The main attraction of the XV500 for us is to have a unit we can play outside in the garden, and this is where it excels. The sound quality suffers indoors when compared to our existing speakers, however outdoors it is in a class of its own. Plenty of volume and enough bass for a family gathering. The battery life is billed as around 25 hours, however that drops when the lights are turned on and the volume turned up. We understand something like 10 hours might be more realistic. Given our mature years and the impressive volume, we moved indoors after around 5 hours with plenty of juice still left in the tank. The unit is listed as being water resistant to IPX4. I’m not sure I would test this in very heavy rain, but we did experience a mild shower with no ill effects. My son is a keen guitarist. He was able to connect to the XV500 effortlessly and, in his words, compared it to “a decent practice amp”. My wife is taking lessons and was very impressed by the sound quality and the ease of use. All she needs now is her own electric guitar, which I suspect is only a matter of time, so it’s not all good! The XV500 is a difficult piece of equipment to rate. Looking at each feature in isolation, you might easily award it three stars. The sound quality is good but we already have better speakers. It’s good being able to play the guitar, but we already have a better amp. Karaoke is a blast, but Singstar is slicker. However, we don’t have anything that does all three, and more importantly, we don’t have anything rechargeable and shower resistant that can do all three outdoors. That in itself takes it up to a good solid four. But ultimately, we’ve decided that for us, this is a five-star product because it’s just so much fun and fits into our outdoor lifestyle. So, in summary, the XV500 – does everything we want. With lights on!

[Rewarded Review] Large, Heavy, but low on volume and battery life.

The first thing you will notice when you get this speaker is how large and heavy it is. It's literally like car battery heavy. Great I thought, that means it should play for a really long time.... Not so much... I took it to work with me and played it for about 5 hours each night for 2 nights and on the 3rd day when I fired it up I got a pleasing sounding notice that the battery was low... so about 12 hours of solid playback at 3/4 volume level. Everyone at work was really impressed when they first saw the speaker, and they had the same reaction I did.... Wow, that's really big, followed by, "Is that as loud as it goes?" "Turn it up" "will it go any louder?" which is pretty dissapointing considering how big and heavy it is... it just doesn't play very loudly without ... MoreThe first thing you will notice when you get this speaker is how large and heavy it is. "Turn it up" "will it go any louder?" which is pretty dissapointing considering how big and heavy it is... it just doesn't play very loudly without starting to distort. It sounds pretty decent at half volume to maybe about 3/4 volume but the bass distorts. At low volume it sounds really good especially with the bass boost turned on, which is where I perfer to listen to it at.. maybe 1/3rd of the way up, to about half way bass boost on. When used like that it's a pleasing blue tooth speaker to listen too but nothing outstanding. I played some Hi-Fi recorded songs from Steely Dan, Daft Punk, Moby, Fat Boy Slim, and while they didn't sound bad, they sounded basically flat and one dimensional, while missing the sparkle and sizzle the same songs impart when played on higher quality systems. On the other hand, Tone Loc, Run DMC, and Pandora set to the 80's channel sounded clean and clear and very enjoyable to listen to. The speaker initially charged up in about 3 hours, but after running it low on battery it took several hours to charge. The fit, finish, and overall quality of the speaker is top notch, and the light show is enjoyable to watch and appears to mimic the beat of the music pretty well. The speaker has inputs for a guitar, and for a Karaoke microphone, so it's usability can be expanded past just a large blue tooth speaker as well. Overall though for my useage it just doesn't play loud enough cleanly for how large and heavy it is. Inside a house its a decent loud blue tooth speaker with solid bass, but outside it's not loud enough, the bass distorts, and you would need a few of these all playing at the same time to be loud enough to use at a party IMO...

Although this freestanding speaker is no lightweight, it is well-grounded at its base so you can be comfortable that it will remain standing outside on your deck, patio, next to your pool, or somewhere in your yard. So, why did I request this piece? Like most of you, I have other speaker types that are used for various applications, mostly inside the home. After living in my home for almost 30 years, I decided to go all out and build the deck with accompanying pergola of my dreams. I have various other areas of interest in my yard with large ponds and a covered bridge, gazebo, and waterfall/collecting pond. Bottom line, I plan on doing more entertaining with my family and wanted a speaker with lots of sound and interest to put out on the deck that could nicely play the audio of my choice, whether that be songs, tv shows, or movies. This speaker does not disappoint. The directions advise that you charge it for 3 hours for 100%. The minute that I took it out out of its packing, charged it, and then pushed the power button on, the speaker automatically linked to my phone's Bluetooth and I was up and going with sound. Did I mention that this speaker not only can deliver "Mega Bass" (option on top), but also delivers a wide spectrum light show when you press the "Lights" button, also on the top that rotates or cycles colors of the rainbow to the beat. One more item of fun is that not only can you Bluetooth input, but in the back compartment there is a mic plug-in and a plug-in for a guitar or other electric instrument. Here we go with karaoke at a party, or speech/announcements at some sort of an event, indoor/outdoor, or a jam session from an instrument. So many activities, like I said, fun for all.By the way, I also have a Sony hand-held "Party speaker with lights" much smaller, hand-held water-resistant portable speaker, that came out years ago that was linkable to other like speakers. I have not yet tried to link these 2 so that they can then be placed at different locations playing the same input, but I will follow up on that soon.Bottom line, I find this an easy buy for all that you might and would do to entertain yourself and those close to you. There is a 1year limited warranty in the US and Canada, so register it and keep your receipt for proof of purchase.
