Sony Ult Field 1 Wireless Portable Speaker (Black)

The ULT Power Sound Field 1 Speaker is very nicely packaged with 100% fully recyclable materials packaging, which is always nice to see.A USB to C Charger Cable is supplied along with the Speaker itself and before attempting to go any further I put the Speaker on Charge, although I thought the charger cable could have been just a little bit longer.Once on charge, I found it very quick and easy to set up, I already have the Sony App on my I-Phone so it was just a case of opening the Sony Music Center App and simply selecting add a new device, then by connecting it to my I-phone via Blue Tooth, set up was completed literally in a few seconds. Although the optional software update took a few minutes to complete, I reckon it was worth getting that over and done with at the same time. You can then choose to stream your favourite music via Spotify, Amazon Music, I-Tunes, or even You Tube for example.WOW, I didn’t appreciate what the ULT function actually did until I pushed the ULT Button on top of the speaker and I was blown away with the deep powerful BASS, what an amazing sound from such a small speaker. At only around 8 inches long and 3inches wide this compact but rugged looking speaker sits nicely on my kitchen window and certainly grabbed my attention when I heard the Powerful ULT beat blasting out my favourite music, thanks to the twin end speakers from which you can actually feel the vibe. The speaker sounds absolutely fine without ULT but I do think this function makes a big difference to the overall sound quality which seemed to me to be approaching surround sound if the volume is up high enough. A very impressive feature, which I use all the time now, although not sure yet if this reduces the 12hour battery life, I don’t care as its so much better with it on.I have to say it looks pretty neat sitting on my kitchen window, but also looks equally at home in our Sunroom when relaxing to music, or even while entertaining friends in the garden on a nice sunny day.I think this speaker will really come in to its own on holiday either in our caravan, or in more likely in my carry on bag. At only 650 grammes its light enough, small enough and looks strong enough to survive a bit of rough handling at the airport.I look forward to taking it with me on my next holiday where I will be able to listen to my very own music in the privacy of my Hotel Room or in my Cruise Ship Cabin or perhaps even on the beach as its also dust and waterproof. What’s not to like?I am not struck on the rope carrying handle, to be honest, however I tucked the extra bits in and prefer this look, however do appreciate there may be times where you might need to hang it up (while camping for example) so can see why Sony have went for this option which may suit some folks better. To be fair, if you do hang it up, rather than stand it on a solid surface, as I do, the sound output is actually even more striking.Overall I have to say I am very pleased and impressed with my new travel companion.

The Sony SRS-ULT10 is a small, portable yet powerful smart speaker. It seamlessly connects to my phone and my Walkman, whichever I choose to use at the time. Initial connection to both was very quick and easy, quickly picking up both phone and Walkman with no connection requests or long delays searching. The sound quality is above what you would expect from a small portable speaker. Pressing the ULT button brings your music alive with rich, deep base when you want or need it, and by switching it off you get smooth, clear sound as you would expect to hear. The deep base dose not distort until you get to maximum volume, which is very loud so there is no real need to go that far. The sound is spatial, very clear when listening to music outside, easily controlled from ... MoreThe Sony SRS-ULT10 is a small, portable yet powerful smart speaker. The deep base dose not distort until you get to maximum volume, which is very loud so there is no real need to go that far. The sound is spatial, very clear when listening to music outside, easily controlled from your device or by the 6 buttons on the speaker, ULT, power and Bluetooth have their own light to show when on. Green for power, blue as expected for Bluetooth and depending upon viewing angle a light green/yellow or pale purple for ULT when on or a darker green, blue of purple when it is off.The ULT Field 1 when connected to Sony music centre links with all of the library's and music apps on my phone and easily and quickly switches between them, again giving control when ever I want it, with what ever device I am using and where ever I am.The speaker is robust, having rolled it off a table top whilst playing music. No damage what so ever to the speaker and more importantly there was no distortion or loss of connection with my phone as the music played. The speaker comes with a handy lace boot lace type carrying strap, though the shape of the speaker makes it comfortable to hold in your hand rather than use the boot lace strap. The two rubber covered speakers one at each end are a source of amusement, stand the device on its end, place a tic-tac on the rubber cover, put your favourite music on ang watch the tic-tac bounce around, turn up the volume and it will throw the tic-tac out. Beats Mexican jumping beans any day.Overall a great little speaker, good sounds, far better than expected, very responsive and easy to use, connect and carry around.

SONY ULT FIELD 1As a hifi enthusiast, if not purist, I was a little apprehensive opening up this interesting little Sony boombox. How could anything so small and portable measure up to the expectation of a demanding and discerning audiophile?Well surprise - it measures up rather well in the circumstances. All I had to do is turn off the ULT bass enhancer to enjoy quite pleasurable sounds easily reproduced via bluetooth testing from my phone sources including the BBC Sounds Radio 3 and the incredibly useful classical library on the idagio app which provides streaming and downloads in hi resolution formats like FLAC.Sony’s ULT Field 1 is really aimed at a different listener so in the interests of gaining a fully rounded impression I switched on the ULT bass ... MoreSONY ULT FIELD 1As a hifi enthusiast, if not purist, I was a little apprehensive opening up this interesting little Sony boombox. How could anything so small and portable measure up to the expectation of a demanding and discerning audiophile?Well surprise - it measures up rather well in the circumstances. All I had to do is turn off the ULT bass enhancer to enjoy quite pleasurable sounds easily reproduced via bluetooth testing from my phone sources including the BBC Sounds Radio 3 and the incredibly useful classical library on the idagio app which provides streaming and downloads in hi resolution formats like FLAC.Sony’s ULT Field 1 is really aimed at a different listener so in the interests of gaining a fully rounded impression I switched on the ULT bass boost, switched to Radio 1 and oomph - enough sound blast to keep a dance party raving. Without the ULT button on, it sounded thinner. So switching back to BBC Radio 3, the source music seemed richer without ULT, to my ear little troubling distortion and a clear enough sound to handle a full-on Norwegian brass band, human voice spoken and sung, and subtle strings. The first surprise when I was setting up the speakers, as soon as I linked to the Sony Music Centre it switched to a firmware update which was completely effortlessly. The second surprise was Sony Music Centre’s options - a custom equaliser to adjust bass middle and treble frequencies adds a useful layer of versatility. The option for Bluetooth to aim for sound quality over signal reliability might prove useful in some circumstances. The ULT FIELD 1 is designed to cope with a range of adverse circumstances. Outdoors when the rain starts pouring down, or inside a shower cubicle, it is designed to be water resistant. The design is both aesthetically pleasing and effectively robust with thick rubber corners to protect from knocks; the textured mesh body is both tactile and functional. The soft touch push buttons are a good size so easy to use. A string strap can be adjusted by is handy if you need to hang the device from a hook. There is a robust seal (remember to secure it well) for battery charging. I charged up the device and it would last all day - well certainly fulfilling my needs. I’m not sure what a full volume bass boost party sound would do to battery longevity, but my guess is that it would stay the course. All in all found this well designed, providing a quality of sound I hadn’t expected in such a small bundle, and a very handle portable when linked with my phone providing music and sound wherever you want.*A final surprise - the ULT Field 1 has a double life as a telephone remote conference call speaker. Using it on a call it provided volume and clarity for everyone in the room. The voice pick up worked better for closer voices but it is perhaps asking too much to imagine handling multiple sourced voices in a busy room.
