Excellent for my specific use case

I bought these for a specific use. Hopefully this review will help others in the same situation... I wanted these to listen to audiobooks at work whilst wearing ear defenders. I work in a noisy factory where it is compulsory to wear ear defenders. I work 12 hour shifts. I can comfortably wear these for the whole shift, one bud at a time, while the other one remains charged in the charging case. They are comfortable and fit my ears well. The sound quality is excellent for my use. I can't comment on the musical audio quality. But wearing just one earbud allows me to listen to audiobooks in perfect clarity while wearing ear defenders in a noisy factory. The price is reasonable compared to other earbuds on the market. Thanks Sony! My shifts are much more tolerable now!

Fantastic!

Typical Sony quality and at a decent price. A bit fussy to position in my ears to get the best sound out of them but that’s just my ears maybe! Worth the effort to position correctly as the sound is so much better when they are! A little light on bass and using the app can make it better but it will never be bass heavy. Separation is amazing for the price especially with music that has upfront vocals like Tori Amos and Kate Bush. The likes of hard rock/metal can sound a little brittle if the recording is not up to scratch. Not much to fault and I would feel guilty if I did at the price!

Great but of kit!

As with any Sony product the WF-C500 ear buds come in simple, classy and well designed packaging that now avoids plastic so is easily recycled.I have a confession to make…..I’m not a techie………but I love a gadget so don’t want to be wasting time on complicated instructions and was pleased to find the usual Sony quick steps diagram and a QR code that once scanned leads you to an easily installed and intuitive headphone app which meant I could quickly start putting the buds through their paces. While the case itself isn’t the most expensive looking bit of kit it does feel sturdy and it’s angled base gives it an up to date appearance. The buds come with a choice of large/medium or small ear tips and the ergonomic design of the buds themselves make for a snug fit which makes them easy to wear for extended periods of time.As you take the buds from the case the voice prompt, a nice touch, informs you of the battery level and connectivity status and so far, whether using my phone or tablet to connect, the Bluetooth link has been swift and trouble free. And so to the most important part of the review….how do they sound? While not a techie I do love my music so put them through their paces testing them from AC/DC to John Martyn and the classics. The app enables you to easily tailor their set up and includes pre sets, a graphic equaliser, bass boost and Sony’s additional DSEE (digital sound enhancement engine) option which upscales the audio. Also included is a 360 Reality Audio format but this sadly will only work with a limited number of streaming services none of which I subscribe to so was unable to test.Having chosen a set up to compliment my music choice I must say I was really impressed with the quality of the sound. I have a much more expensive pair of headphones [Sony of course] that I can’t help comparing the ear buds to and must say they performed very well indeed. Certainly the bass level isn’t ‘booming’ but this isn’t always a bad thing as often too much bass can change the feel of a track as much as too too much treble. These ear buds play to the middle ground being neither too rich nor too ‘tinny’.My go to track to test any system is John Martyn’s ‘Small Hours’ and these did a great job, revealing the complexity of the many layers present that allow you to drift along on it’s dreamlike quality, very impressive!I like the fuss free controls, the left bud controls the volume and the right play and pause, they also have a very reasonable 20hr battery life.To sum up I know these aren’t the most expensive ear buds available but they don't feel or sound ‘cheap’. They are well built, comfortable and easy to wear, have simple controls, link easily with phone or tablet, have a reasonable battery life and more than do justice to a range of music genre and podcasts. `True they don’t include noise cancelling but they do have. a good volume level and have a clarity that enhances any track which means you can concentrate on the music and avoid external distractions.I’m looking forward to spending more time with them!

Great product at a great price
23 February 2022

I had first tried the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, but there was a piece of the bud at the top that was extremely painful to my ear. My boyfriend can wear them without issues so it must be my ears.I decided to try the WF-C500 as they were less pricey and have some fun colours. The Bluetooth connected without any problem and most importantly, they are comfortable! The case and earbuds feel strong and of good quality. The sound might not be the best out there, but you can customise it through the app to find what best suit you. At this price, they really are some great earbuds and I do not regret my purchase. The lack of noise cancelling is noticeable after trying the Samsung, but nothing that would put you off wearing them. All in all, I am very impressed!

I bought these earphones to replace a cheap pair I'd bought to see if I'd get on with wireless earbuds but which didn't last for long. These Sony earbuds are excellent. Once you establish which size fits best they are extremely comfortable and you forget you're wearing them. You can tweak the levels using the app which works really well. Whilst these aren't noise cancelling, once you've adjusted the fit they exclude most external noise and personally I prefer a bit of awareness of what's going on around me anyway. The charging case seems quite sturdy and small enough slip in your pocket/handbag/gym bag and the charge lasts a long time.I didn't want to commit to the cost of the high end earbuds on the market but I'm delighted with what you get for your money here. ... MoreI bought these earphones to replace a cheap pair I'd bought to see if I'd get on with wireless earbuds but which didn't last for long. I can't imagine that the sound quality of buds costing 3 or 4 times what these Sony ones do can be significantly better. I listen to spoken word and music equally and couldn't ask for better sound across the board. I'd definitely recommend these.

Great sound and customisation
27 August 2023

I upgraded to these as my WI-C310 earphones went through a wash and didn't survive! Was dubious about them staying in my ear while at the gym doind rigorous exercise but they stay in no problem. The app is great, it let's you customise the sound to exactly how you like it. Although they are not noise cancelling, they do block out a lot of ambient noise. My only issue is that sometimes when trying to adjust them while they are in my ears, I sometimes hit the button as you can't really miss it! Apart from that, it's a great product and would recommend to anyone as entry level wireless buds.

Hit and miss sound

I bought the Sony WF-C500 Earbuds for my wife as a surprise present. She found them comfortable to use and the sound quality was first class, well for the first three weeks that is! Then the right earbud started playing up, working intermittently, or not at all. I tried all the Sony recommended solutions, tried resetting the units, even tried a factory reset, but it did not do anything for the right earbud. On contacting Sony to rectify the problem under warranty, I was advised that as any repair would likely cost more that the cost of purchasing a new unit, so they would not cover it under warranty and that I should return the defective unit to Amazon. So much for the Sony Warranty, it seems its not worth the paper it's printed on.I contacted Amazon and they ... MoreI bought the Sony WF-C500 Earbuds for my wife as a surprise present. The ear buds come in a strong, durable plastic case that comfortably slides into your pocket.I found charging to be very quick and particularly liked the orange glow that was visible through the lid whilst charging. Battery life was more than sufficient for my needs. The longest period I used them for was about 3 hours after which I popped them back in the case and the battery was topped up.The strong magnets hold the earbuds securely in the case and avoid them being accidentally dropped when opening the case. Particularly useful at the gym.Tried all the different sized ear tips and found the middle sized tip to be the most comfortable. Ideal for exercising as opposed to the over the head headphones that can sometimes be difficult to keep in place when exercising on treadmills etc.The Sony Headphone Connect app was very straightforward to download onto my iPhone and iPad by scanning the QR code found on the leaflet. The push button controls on the ear buds were easy to use. The left ear controlling the volume - tap to increase and hold down to reduce volume. Tapping the right ear enabled the music to be paused. I was impressed by the volume range and even at high volume there was no distortion to the sound.I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of sound on incoming telephone calls. The music was paused and the sound was exceptionally clear and the caller had no problem in hearing my voice through the microphone.By accessing the app you can play around with the various sound adjustments to easily find the most pleasing for your individual requirements.Overall I find it extremely difficult to criticize anything on the WF-C500 ear buds. They offer exceptional value for money.

These buds benefit from Sony's premium product tech.
1 April 2023

I bought these to use on the occasions - like travelling to and from football matches - that I can't use my (Sony) noise cancelling headphones because the headphones are just too bulky. It feels like the tech that they have developed for premium products has rubbed off on these buds - the sound quality is excellent and the charge time/ battery life is very good. The high notes are crisp. They sound a little lighter on base, but at this size and shape that's no surprise. The clarity of the music in my collection and podcasts comes through very strongly. I would recommend these for the money!

very good value for money
2 June 2023

The sound of these small and compact ear buds is excellent, considering their price tag. Although there is not active noise calculation, the noise from the environment is efficiently isolated due to the very good fit in the ear. The fit is firm and comfortable. The battery life is adequate. The case is made of plastic and looks rather cheap, but closes firmly and protects the headphones efficiently. The control, by tapping the left or right bud once or more times, is confusing and certainly is not an advantage of this nice item.
