I have had these for 2 years and so far they are my favourite.

I bought my Sony WH-1000XM3’s a few years ago and I’ve used them nearly everyday since. The battery life on them last so long; the same as when I bought them. I love the sound quality on these. They sound really good when it comes to bass, and not in an overly done distorted way either. The sound is very full and perfect when it comes to listening to music. I also use them to watch movies and shows. I only wouldn’t wear these when working out, because I feel sweat builds up easily due to the texture and low breathability of the earpads, but I don’t use them for that so it’s not a problem for me. Also, I love the noise cancellation that are built into these, as well as the ambient sound/voice passthrough option. They show no signs of wear yet, but once I need a new pair eventually, I’ll just get the updated version of these again.

Around the holidays, I decided to treat myself to a pair of high quality headphones. I live in the central area of a major US city, and to be frank the noise pollution was driving me a little crazy. I was interested in a pair of headphones that would give me some peace and quiet, so I spent a lot of time looking at ANC (active noise-Cancelling) options and the Sony WH1000MX3 and Bose QuietComfort 35 II were easily the top picks among reviews. However, there were a lot of different opinions about which was better. The split was pretty 50/50 between the Sony and Bose, so I was pretty torn. Even though they were heavily discounted for the holidays ($300 each after taxes), that's a lot of money considering I generally never spend more than $50 for headphones. However, there were a lot of different opinions about which was better. The split was pretty 50/50 between the Sony and Bose, so I was pretty torn. Even though they were heavily discounted for the holidays ($300 each after taxes), that's a lot of money considering I generally never spend more than $50 for headphones. So I bought them both as an experiment, with the plan to return one after I made a decision. Let me get this out of the way now, because I'm going to get pretty detailed below. Ultimately, I understand why there's such a debate about whether the Sony or Bose is better. They are both fantastic headphones and I love them both. I love them so much, that I made the probably financially irresponsible decision to keep them both! They were both so good, but in better than the other in completely unique ways. For that reason, there is no dealbreaker that makes one better than the other -- I believe it comes down completely to personal preference and that's why there is so much debate on which is better. The TL;DR of this review is that you should buy the Sony if you value sound quality most, and don't plan to wear them for long periods of time (i.e. over 5-6 hours per session). You should buy the Bose if you value comfort the most, and if you're planning to use them for phone calls. If you're interested in a bit more detail, I'll give my opinions on these aspects: ANC, Sound, Comfort, Versatility ANC The noise-cancelling on both of these is phenomenal. I had assumed Bose would do better at this since it's what they're known for, but I'm surprised to say the Sony's ANC is slightly better. It does a bit better blocking out non-drone sounds (i.e. people talking, sharp noises, etc) compared to the Bose. With that said, they both are practically equal and I don't think the Sony ANC is so much better than the Bose that it would justify buying them on that factor alone. When wearing either pair, I sometimes feel like a spaceman walking around my apartment because everything is so quiet. SOUND This is a clear winner for Sony. No questions asked, the sound is clearer, crisper, and deeper. This is especially noticeable when watching movies/TV shows or playing video games. With the Sony, I feel like I can hear each individual sound clearly, whereas with the Bose everything is a little more muddled together. With that being said, the Bose sound is perfectly acceptable and even 'good'. It's just that for a $300 pair of headphones I'd expect a more premium quality where I am amazed at how clear the sound is. The Sony does that; the Bose are a tier below. COMFORT Hands down, the Bose are better. I can literally wear them for 14 hours and they don't bother me except for needing to give my ears a little air every once in a while. I have never, ever worn a pair of headphones this comfortable before. I'm especially grateful for this comfort now that I'm working from home all day because of COVID-19. The Sony headphones are a bit heavier and clamp on your head a little bit more tightly. They also press down on your ears, whereas the Bose are deep enough that my ears don't even touch the inside of the cans. The Sony are still definitely comfortable, but a tier below the Bose. I can still wear them for about 6 hours before they bother me, so if you don't wear headphones that long it might not be a problem for you. VERSATILITY This is just a catch-all for all the other aspects of the headphones. Nothing here I would consider a selling point strong enough for most people to make a final decision, but if you have specific needs then this might be helpful. 1. I like the physical buttons on the Bose more than the touch buttons on the Sony. They just work better, and I make mistakes with them less often. 2. Sony has better technology. They use USB-C so the headphones charge faster than the Bose mini-hdmi. They also have better bluetooth connection technology, which lets a higher bitrate of audio transfer wirelessly. Without getting too technical, I think this is a major reason why the sound quality on the Sony is better. 3. Bose is better if you want to connect to multiple devices. Bose can connect to two devices simultaneously, but Sony can connect to only 1 device at a time. For example, if I am listening to music on my computer and I get a phone call, if I'm wearing the Bose, I can answer and talk on the call through my headset, and when I hang up music will resume. With the Sony, I'd either have to disconnect from my computer, then reconnect to my phone before the call ended, or take off the headphones completely and answer the phone separately. 4. Sony looks a little more stylish and futuristic. The Bose look like an ordinary pair of headphones. Build quality is identical though

Definitely worth the money spent for these headphones. The noise cancellation is so nice, especially when trying to study or get work done and your surroundings are loud. These headphones always never seem to die either, it always lasts me three days of using them for me to charge them again. They’re so comfortable on the head and can adjust the length of where the ear piece reaches. It comes with a plane adapter which I find the best when traveling. You can adjust the surrounding sound volume in the Sony headphone app which I find very cool. You can also have it auto adjust to your surroundings so when you get up and walk the noise canceling will turn off. I find these headphones very innovative and personalize-able which I find other headphones don’t do.

I bought these about a year ago for mainly blocking out noisy neighbours after trying out some cheap one that didn't help at all.You definitely do get what you pay for when it comes to these Sony XM3's they even provided a good amount of noise cancelling without being turned on, but when you connect them to your TV, stereo or even a mobile device the sound quality is so good it makes me feel like I'm in my own little world, these have been a life saver for me.But if there was one con it would be that you can only connect one device at a time, it would be good if I can use them to watch TV, pause it and play some music from my phone for example, I've been looking at the XM4's as I think you can with them but they are missing some of the XM3 features that I've ... MoreI bought these about a year ago for mainly blocking out noisy neighbours after trying out some cheap one that didn't help at all.You definitely do get what you pay for when it comes to these Sony XM3's they even provided a good amount of noise cancelling without being turned on, but when you connect them to your TV, stereo or even a mobile device the sound quality is so good it makes me feel like I'm in my own little world, these have been a life saver for me.But if there was one con it would be that you can only connect one device at a time, it would be good if I can use them to watch TV, pause it and play some music from my phone for example, I've been looking at the XM4's as I think you can with them but they are missing some of the XM3 features that I've learnt to enjoy and would miss, otherwise I would buy them as well.. god knows they wouldn't include them (MADNESS) as I think they would sell more XM4's.The battery life is excellent, and doesn't take long to charge, they have been faultless so far connecting to all my Bluetooth devices is a breeze, they are slightly uncomfortable when wearing glasses but these couple of cons are not enough to put me off if anything I would be more inclined to buy other Sony products.Very happy so thankyou Mr Sony.P.s. this is one thing I just expected the headphones would work with but I can't work out how to do it so if anyone can help me please comment, they don't seem to connect to a sony PS4, might get a ps5 in the coming months, will they work with that??????????

Darling Bride prefers the fit over the newer models
28 March 2024

She's the TV junkie around here... I guess we all have our little bad habits (I never watch the thing). It's difficult to level the sound, though, between the music and dialogue... so she was using my old 1000XM3s and literally wore them out! When the headband broke, I passed on my XM4s to her and moved to the XM5s. She complained that the newer Sony headphones were too tight on her head and, due to some previous surgeries, were actually painful to wear (I suppose one could say the 4s was strong with her). I decided to replace her XM3s with another set. These are awesome, they fit her comfortably, and the noise-canceling on them is still superior. She's happy... and, therefore, I'm happy.

Sony WF-1000XM3. Still good.
4 February 2024

The Sony WF-1000XM3 were released in 2018. The noise cancelling was excellent then and is still excellent now. Just make sure you try all the ear tips to get a good seal. 6 hours of battery with noise cancelling is still good today. There are other wireless earbuds with better battery life but they probably won't sound as good as these. There's lots of eq settings in the Sony Headphone app and I would recommend trying them to get the sound you like. I paid far less than 100 for these and got an absolute bargain. Rather than pay 250 for the latest noise cancelling ear buds I would definitely recommend these. They're Sony so they sound good, the battery life is good and the noise cancelling is top notch. Get them. You won't be disappointed.

The noise cancelation is so efficient that it almost feels like you're in a different world, free from external distractions. While the Sony XM3 1000 headphones are already impressive, there are a couple of small improvements that would make them even better. Firstly, it would be great if Sony incorporated USB-C audio support. USB-C is becoming increasingly prevalent in modern devices, and having the ability to connect directly via USB-C would enhance the convenience and compatibility of these headphones. This would eliminate the need for an additional dongle for devices that solely feature USB-C ports.Another enhancement that would be well-received is wireless charging compatibility. With the rise in popularity of wireless charging technology, it would be a valuable addition to the XM3 1000 headphones. Being able to simply place the headphones on a wireless charging pad instead of plugging them in would offer added convenience and streamline the charging process.Despite these small suggestions for improvement, the Sony XM3 1000 headphones remain a top-tier choice for audiophiles and frequent travelers. The superb sound quality and industry-leading noise canceling capabilities make them a standout option in their class. Whether you're looking to enjoy your favorite tunes or block out the world around you, the Sony XM3 1000 headphones deliver an exceptional listening experience.
