You get what you pay for and a little more with nice quality.Simple packaging that seems eco friendly with no plastic stuff and very recyclable, minimal contents – earphones, short USB-C cable and a leaflet. Absolutely budget friendly product by Sony – don’t expect HIGH end but this is a very nice affordable headset. These are light weight and very comfortable for medium daily usage. They have very good sound and good cushioning around the ears. They come charged and last up to 50 hours, can be changed for about 3 minutes that gives you 1.5 hrs. I’ve not run out of battery while using them and have only put them on the charger once just to get a full charge for usage. There is a built-in microphone that I have not had any complaints while using – this is great for hands-free . The volume buttons are located on the earpiece and they are very close together – have to learn which is which and tap the correct one 😊The setup wants you to use the Sony app that referenced 360 reality audio – I didn’t care for this and did not follow through with setting up using this. It wants you to take pics of your ears to continue with it. That leads me to just how simple the actual set up was without using that app. Bluetooth pairing and setup was simple and I was able to connect my phone and computer for use at the same time. You are able to utilize Siri and google assistant easily while using them. These headphones are not totally noise cancelling but still good with limited noise interruption. You are still able to hear someone if they truly need you but in general good outside noise muffling. In my opinion, these are a very nice, affordable, and easy to use Sony headset product that I would recommend. Wish they would have come with some type of carrying bag or case, but still small enough and made well enough to throw in your bag without worrying about damaging them. Also, would have liked a longer USB charging cable as this one is just too short.

Both the headband and earpads feel like they are made of memory foam, the earpads in particular are very comfortable and are easy to wear for long sessions. Initially, it looks as though there isn’t enough padding on the headband, when wearing them however, I felt there was just enough which made them fine for longer listening sessions. On the right earcup, you'll find the power/pairing button, volume/change track buttons, LED indicator, USB-C port and the built-in mic. All are well placed and I found operating the headphones fairly natural.FeaturesSetting up the CH520s was easy, once paired, the Sony Headphones app allows you to customise the equaliser and play around with the settings. The CH520s allow you to connect to 2 devices simultaneously; this is a new, must-have feature for me as it allowed me to listen to music whilst working on my laptop and as soon as a call came on my phone, I could answer it using the headphones without disconnecting and reconnecting my devices. Call quality was decent, not something I would describe as crystal clear, however, I had no complaints from anyone I was on the phone to.The battery life is claimed to be up to an astonishing 50 hours. However, from my use, I think they were probably slightly less, but still very impressive. The only feature I would have liked from Sony is support for their own LDAC Bluetooth codec for higher bitrates, however given the price point of these headphones, I think it is understandable to exclude this feature. They do however support AAC which produces good great sound quality.Sound qualityThe first thing that should be done with these headphones is connect them to the Sony Headphones app and customise the equaliser to your preference. Another setting worth turning on is DSEE (Sony's upscaling technology to help get even more quality from your sound). At this price point, I wasn't sure what to expect from the sound, especially when I am used to Sony's flagship headphones, however, the CH520s left a surprisingly good impression on me. Firstly, the volume is loud enough that I didn't need to leave the headphones on the max volume the whole time; and even at max volume, there is no noticeable distortion in the sound quality. I can see that with these, the main focus is good sound quality. The Bass was excellent, thick and clear, there was no muddiness to the bass whatsoever. The mids are also excellent for the price point as they were clear, and the separation was also very good. I wouldn't say these are bass-heavy headphones, but the bass is delivered in a really enjoyable way, there is definitely some power to the bass, however, it is not over the top. The highs are where these headphones struggle very slightly (although this is just the audiophile in me nit-picking). Whilst both male and female vocals are clear, I would say that at the very high end, I just get a sense that these headphones are struggling slightly and there is a lack of clarity. But again, given where these headphones sit in Sony's range, I think the sound quality is great and you still get some of what Sony is best at.ConclusionOverall, these headphones surprised me with how capable they are in terms of sound quality, they definitely have that great Sony sound quality. I would definitely recommend these headphones for the price point; especially for children as they are light and seem fairly durable while still offering good audio quality. They also make excellent home office headphones as they are light and comfortable enough to be worn for hours, have excellent battery life and can connect to 2 devices at the same time.

By the way, this app allows the user to register 2 devices at the same time and be used simultaneouslySo, these wireless headphones weighing in at 5.2 oz, can with a full charge be used for 50 hours, have a fast charging, 3 minutes for1.5 hours, do multi point, attaching to phones, tablets, and computers, have a sound equalizer, hands free phone calls, connect to Siri for iphone and Bixby for Samsung, a voice assist function.Bottom line, the sound heard with the speakers on and engaged is immersive and enveloping. The app allows for the user to pick their sound option-regular sound or 360 reality audio that is associated with one of the pay for music subscriptions that you can obtain for"x" amount of tme for free. I think this is a good buy.

The built-in microphone allows for hands-free calling and I was able to leave my phone and walk outside to the mailbox and downstairs into the basement without sacrificing sound quality/connection on the call.It pairs quickly and easily with the push of one button and when connected it prompts you to download the Sony Headphones Connect App that allows you to personalize the headphones’ settings. Both Siri and Google Assistant compatible, it allows you to use voice commands to control connected devices. A USB-C charging cord (10 inches long) allows for up to 75 minutes of playtime with only 3 minutes of charging, which is great when your headphones die unexpectedly.Sony advertises that these headphones support Swift Pair (connection via Bluetooth with a Windows 10 computer) and Google Fast Pair (which allows you to use Google’s Find My Device App to locate them). I personally did not test either of these claims. Now for the cons- at first I was confused by the lack of an instruction manual but there were pictures in the lid of the box they came in showing how to connect the headphones to your Bluetooth device. No case for storage is included but that is to be expected at this price point. The only way I was able to mute the headphones was by using the mute button on my phone. None of these issues overshadow the fact that these are pretty great headphones-especially for the price-point.I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for headphones that are wireless, affordable, well constructed, with a long battery life.

Good set of basic Bluetooth headphones
22 April 2023

The Sony WH-CH520 is an excellent basic set of Bluetooth headphones with a number of convenient features. The headphones come in a nice-looking box whose only meaningful contents are the headphones themselves and a USB type A-to-C cable that can be used for charging. The charging port and all controls are on the right earpiece. There is no usage documentation in the box, but there is a QR code that takes you to a web site where there is a quick-start guide and a more detailed user guide. The first thing I was glad to discover is that these adjust to fit my large head; I have had to return more than one set of headphones in the past that simply would not fit me. There is no usage documentation in the box, but there is a QR code that takes you to a web site where there is a quick-start guide and a more detailed user guide. The first thing I was glad to discover is that these adjust to fit my large head; I have had to return more than one set of headphones in the past that simply would not fit me. There is a downloadable app available to help pair the headphones to a phone or tablet, but it is not really necessary since pairing can easily be done from the device’s settings in the usual way. The app is useful if you want to adjust the balance or tuning, and to update the firmware if necessary. One welcome feature is that the headphones retain pairing information for up to 8 devices, which should be enough for most users. I paired them to my Android smartphone, Samsung tablet, and Windows 11 Surface tablet. It also supports two simultaneous connections, meaning that you could, for example, be watching a movie on your tablet and then answer a call that comes into your smartphone. The controls on the right earpiece consist of three multi-purpose buttons. When listening, these control volume, play/pause, and fwd/back track skip. When a call comes in, a button is used to answer and later hang up the call. Another useful function lets a double-tap on the center button bring up your voice assistant on your phone. I was able to use this to activate the Google Assistant and give it commands such as to launch my favorite music app. It also works with Siri but I was not able to test that.Listening to music brought home how much better headphones are in general than the wireless earbuds that I’ve been using the last few years, especially at the bass end of the range. I listened mostly to jazz and classical pieces; although I don’t have anything for a direct comparison, the audio performance is more than acceptable, and can be adjusted via app.I only have a couple of negatives on this product. It would be nice if there were a connector for a direct wired connection, which would be useful, for example, when flying. Also, the earpieces are of a size that they go right onto your ears instead of around them, making them uncomfortable – at least for me -- if worn too long. Overall, however, I would say that these are as good as any wireless headphones that can be found at this price point.

Good sound in an inexpensive, light weight package
22 April 2023

Sony's WH-CH520 wireless headphone offers good sound and performance at an attractive price point. I consider these to be an entry-level product for Sony. The overall construction feels adequate but not very robust. The headband, foam ear cups and controls feel like compromises to help get the overall cost down. Also, these headphones do NOT offer automatic noise cancellation (ANC) and are not water resistant so I consider their usage to be geared more toward quiet listening than as a gym companion. It is essential that you download and install Sony's Headphone app to setup and use the headphones. This is an umbrella app that is used with all of Sony's earbuds and headphones. It does require registration and some personal info at installation. Once installed the blue tooth pairing was painless. There is a "Voice Guide" that notifies you when the link is established and gives you battery charge status. The device's controls are located on the outer rim of the right ear cup and include power on/off and the standard play/pause/track switching you expect when listening to music. They also provide you with controls for handling phone calls. There are a couple of interesting features; you can connect the headphones to two separate devices simultaneously and switch back and forth. They also support Sony's 360 Reality Audio which is an immersive codec but is proprietary and only available on a limited number of sites as of this review. There is also a very interesting optimization procedure for this feature that walks you through taking pictures of both your ears and submitting them for analysis! There is also a very basic equalizer that includes a number of presets and also allows you to customize and save your own choice. The sound quality on these headphones is good, not great. They are totally listenable but you will notice the intrusion from outside noise and the bass is a little weak.Overall, if you are a fan of Sony products and would like a budget set of headphones this product deserves your consideration.

Great Sound and Great Value!
22 April 2023

Great headphones for casual listening. Excellent battery life too! Mids and Bass are definitely synthesized, but for use with my Samsung Tab, it definitely is better than ear buds. Definitely will be replacing my coffee table ear buds that I always seem to misplace. The packaging states 360 Reality Audio. This is not a feature you can just turn on. It requires the Sony App to be installed and then requires your to run a setup, which includes the app taking pictures of your ears to give you the best sound experience, where they upload the pics to their servers to be analyzed and stored and then create the sound profile for your personal experience. Truth is, I cannot know if this is really being done because you cannot access the feature unless you run this setup. ... MoreGreat headphones for casual listening. Excellent battery life too! Truth is, I cannot know if this is really being done because you cannot access the feature unless you run this setup. Then once it is done, it tells you which apps it is compatible with...which happen to be none that I use...which only 6 or 7 were listed. On the Sony's product website though Amazon Music Premium (not included with Prime) was listed. I could test this feature being a Prime member for free for 3 months so I gave it shot.Once in the music app, it will display which songs have 360. And honestly, I didn't actually care for the 360 version of the songs, it made it feel more hollow. I jumped back and forth between the SD and lossless Ultra HD versions of the song and then compared to YT Music versions. Overall I preferred the non-360 versions. They don't list any video streaming apps that work with the 360 audio feature, but watching the demo via YouTube it doesn't sound like (no pun intended) that it is a goal. This is a licensed feature, so I'm guessing this is supposed to be a Dolby Atmos competitor for music listening. I tested Spiderman Into the Spiderverse via Movies Anywhere app and it did sound really good and picked up on the left right channels. The YouTube demo I mentioned, does add layers to the basic 2 channel setup, that makes it feel like it is spacial audio, but truthfully I didn't feel like an immersive experience.I feel like my testing of the audio apps was more true to life than their demo.My review rating I struggled with as I am not a fan of "walled garden" approach to extra feautres that are not explicity stated on the packaging and then getting into the app it was a bit complicated a first to get the ear photos taken. But the more I understand that this is a new technology/feature and has not been fully adopted by the industry, the fact that they are including this feature in this price range is also something to note.I do like the compactness of these compared to some other brands and while definitely not as compact as ear buds, the earpieces do rotate to lay flat, so putting in a backpack or just lying on the table will make for a slimmer profile. They are definitely more comfortable than earbuds in my opinion and long movie sessions won't cause ear fatigue. One thing I think most can agree with is you cannot go wrong with Sony. They have always represented a premium brand along with premium quality!

First impressions were wow! what a massive difference plastic free packaging has on the conscience of a purchaser, I often find myself questioning why is so much stuff included and wasted on packaging items just to be put in landfill well Sony have raised the bar and as you will see when you purchase the WH-CH520 Wireless headphones that the packaging is safe, secure, protective and minimal anddddddd recyclable!!!! gold star all the way for thisThe headphones; they look smart, feel lightweight and are comfortable to wear, they adjust with a simple pull down /up on either side - for me I don't want catches or anything fiddly so simple is greatOn the right ear piece (at the very bottom) there are the volume and skip buttons - again, keeping it straightforward and ... MoreFirst impressions were wow! what a massive difference plastic free packaging has on the conscience of a purchaser, I often find myself questioning why is so much stuff included and wasted on packaging items just to be put in landfill well Sony have raised the bar and as you will see when you purchase the WH-CH520 Wireless headphones that the packaging is safe, secure, protective and minimal anddddddd recyclable!!!! gold star all the way for thisThe headphones; they look smart, feel lightweight and are comfortable to wear, they adjust with a simple pull down /up on either side - for me I don't want catches or anything fiddly so simple is greatOn the right ear piece (at the very bottom) there are the volume and skip buttons - again, keeping it straightforward and simple to use and the buttons are very responsiveThe headphones are chargeable, they come with the charging wire and this plugs in right next to the volume buttons, I haven't needed to fully charge them yet as I haven't needed too the charge just keeps going and going and so far I haven't managed to drain it (I use these for about 40 mins or so a day whilst I work out)I found the EQ settings on the Sony Headphones Connect app a great extra and one i wasn't expecting, I did a bit of research and found out that with the 360 Spatial Sound Personalizer app5 along with a transmitter (WLA-NS7), your sound experience is personally optimised for you! Somehow the app captures and analyses your ear shape, allowing these headphones to create your own personal sound field when paired with BRAVIA XR™ TVs - I don't have this TV however for those that do this does offer a great additional feature so thought it was worth a mention as i had no ideaThe headphones connected well to my phone, there was no delay or loss of connection, the music was played responsively and the quality was great, yes it isn't the loudest headphone but for me it was more than ample, I didn't max out the volume and it was comfortable and enjoyableOverall, for an affordable headphone set that doesn't come with unnecessary waste and rubbish these are perfect - as mentioned above they have features which can enhance their quality or they can be used simply and they perform well, very well

Long lasting headphones with good features & sound

I love the fact that the products now come in all paper packaging and is therefore fully recyclable. The Sony WH-CH520 headphones fold flat as the ear cups rotate making them easier to store and carry to work. There is enough adjustment on the headband to fit the average alien, so have proven comfortable for several hours of work Teams calls. The ear pads / cushions are also very comfortable and there is enough pressure to keep them secure on your head. There is a QR code to scan and download the headphone app – which I have found useful for setting up the equalizer to accommodate my taste in sound. I’m also impressed with the headphone app being able to take pictures of your ears to improve the spatial sound settings. I’ve only used the demo from 360 Reality Audio Live, but it’s very impressive. These over ear headphones have a great battery life (approx. 50hrs) listening to streaming music from my phone but I’m also able to use it connected to the work laptop or home computer for Teams calls etc. The feedback from my colleagues is that the audio quality on Teams is better than my old, wired headset. For me, the ability to pair with more than 1 device at the same time is a real bonus and saves me time and effort with switching between cabled headsets for work and wireless for listening to music. It was very easy to pair with the devices without any messing about with drivers or access codes. Call quality on the mobile and other messaging services is good and I’m still getting used to the over ear keeping me cocooned within the call.I’ve only needed to charge these once in the couple of weeks of use and have found them comfortable to wear and even though they are not noise-cancelling I have found that it excludes most external noise.I’m very impressed with the Bluetooth range of these units, as I can now walk around the house doing other work and still hear the music, answer calls and skip tracks. Much better than the old unit I had a few years ago where I could barely leave the room without signal issues.Aesthetically they are a nice simple pair of headphones, and the switches are easy to access and use. I like the ability to pause and skip etc from the buttons without having to unlock the phone for the music player.I also like the fact that the markings for left and right are inside the band and colour coded – with Right being red. I would recommend that the marking was a bit bigger and possibly have the letter R in a bright colour like white, so it stands out for any visually impaired owners.

Sony WH-CH520

The Sony WH-CH520 Over Ear Headphones. The CH520 looks like the run of the mill over ear headphone’s but boy they are definitely not! I’m used to the ordinary run of the mill over ear type bluetooth headphones for listening to my music when I relax at the end of a tiring day.I like bass, and a lot off it and believe you me the WH-CH520 really delivers it too.Bass delivering the effect of being there, making you think your body is thumping like it would be if you were at a concert.Mid range is where it should be, not too forward and not too far and not sounding like if it’s coming from a cardboard box or like you have your hands cupped over your ears, giving the sound presence like it’s alive. The highs are very good but not quite as crisp as good quality in ear ... MoreThe Sony WH-CH520 Over Ear Headphones. The CH520 looks like the run of the mill over ear headphone’s but boy they are definitely not! I did find that listening to drums they were perfectly adequate and didn’t spoil any of my listening pleasure. If you download the Sony headphones app for your smartphone or tablet, you can customise your sounds with a 5 channel equaliser etc.Hands free phone calls were a breeze and sound quality good, confirmed by my wife on the other end of the line. The only complaint I have the on/off volume buttons are completely black like the headset itself. In dim lighting, I had a real problem turning them on and off and having to use my phone torch to see what I was pressing out of the three buttons that are directly next to each other. If the recessed symbols where coloured in white it would be a lot easier to find and operate the right buttons in low light conditions.Charging was as simple as most other gadgets with a USB C cable. I used to get annoyed when I forgot to charge my regular headphones and had to wait an eternity to have enough charge to listen to them at length but not with the CH520. A three minute charge will give you a 1.5 hour use which was enough for my bed time listening, a full charge will give a you a massive 50 hour use time! All in all, for the price and if you are on a budget, I would go for these all day long.Price, sound quality, battery life all winners in my book!
