4k tv first experience

I bought this new Sony Bravia 4k tv as I have always bought Sony Bravia tvs for many years now and this is my first 4k UHD tv and I must admit the quality is ? Well I would say weird but it’s just the way that the quality and picture sharpness etc is presented in 4k I assume. I’ve found that any normal tv or movie in standard HD or 1080p etc is ok to watch and always has been but I’ve noticed that any content that is 4k is played with the black bar at the top and bottom of the screen which is really really annoying. I paid for a 55” screen and for the screen to be narrowed every time I watch any 4k UHD content is so stupid and again as I said annoying. The picture in 4k is amazing but it seems to make anything I watch look different and I get the irony of that but I just can’t get used to it and the only way to get full screen content is in standard HD or via my firestick apps like cinema HD etc. I’m more than happy with all content that came previous to 4k and to get used to this 4k or better will take a lot for myself and I don’t see it happening anytime soon. The tv in its self is amazing in that it has all the apps you would need built in to it apart from crunchyroll ?? Which I’ve never heard of and I like the way all tv manufacturers are trying to make their remotes similar to the Amazon firestick remote and you get the standard tv remote along with this new remote. All the settings and ports are what you would expect and like I said before I’ve bought Sony Bravia tvs for many years but only the ones with the android system installed but now you get google tv built into the Tv as well so the play store is not really needed. All in all I would defo recommend any Sony Bravia tv but if like me you are an avid watcher if tv shows cans movies then stick with UHD or HD etc as 4k takes a lot of getting used to.

But decided against this due to the burn-in and longevity issues with OLED panels (despite OLED panels being so much nicer to look at), and concluded that I trusted Sony to provide good picture quality and a good OS even at this lower price point. And we are not disappointed.Firstly, picture quality is very similar to, if not virtually indistinguishable from, a larger and more expensive Sony X90L model. Colour, brightness, clarity etc. all very similar. I think the Contrast maybe a tiny bit better on the Sony X90L, but I think it is down to personal taste. However, I think motion is actually a little on this X75WL than on the X90L.Secondly, the OS on these more recent generations of Sony TVs is great. I am going to say since it became Google TV rather than Android TV. And again, the OS is little quicker and less laggy on the Sony X75WL than on the X90L. You can install apps from Google Play, just search the app name on the Apps page of the OS. MX Player and VLC are good media players that can be used with various media types on USB flash drives. And there are many other types of apps that work well on these Sony TVs.The nice surprise of this TV is the built-in sound. I am a fully trained Sound Engineer and the Sony X90L has its own home theatre receiver (also purchased from Richer Sounds) paired with a number of sets of excellent HiFi speakers I have accumulated over the years. The sound is awesome. Also, going into a bedroom and with not so much as a sound bar (which I simply will never purchase) I wasn't expecting much. And let us be honest, ultra thin flat screen TVs leave little room for designers to incorporate good speakers these days. The surprise for me with this Sony X75WL is just how much of the acoustic environment of the recordings it is capable of conveying within the sound it projects. Obviously, the TV has great limitations, it produces little bass, and obviously, it is better in the mid range (around the human ear's most sensitve frequencies) with a lack of high frequencies. But the way this TV presents the acoustic properties of film/TV programme material does inject a small but welcome sense of action and dynamism.Fitting these TVs (both X75WL and X90L) to their respective mounts (X90L on wall, X75WL on 3rd party desktop due to width of cabinet it was due to stand on) was a little bit of a pain, as Sony recess the holes of the VESA mount into the back of these TVs but do not seem to provide long enough screws with which to mount them. Had to get on Amazon and purchase some of varying lengths to get the job done. For us, and a little tip for anyone plannig to purchase one of theseSony TVs, it was M5 x 40 screws for this X75WL, as the desktop stand came with plastic washers (and M5 x 35 screws for the X90L that went on the wall mount). And, of course, purchasing from Richer Sounds was a no-brainer. The TV comes with a 6-year guarantee, great customer service and no problems.Overall, I am very happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend the TV.

In time we may well purchase a separate soundbar but there is nothing wrong with the audio output of the current TV.The TV was relatively easy to set up but it is essential that there are two of you to do this because while the TV set is not heavy, it is an awkward shape and requires two to lift it out of the box without injuring the TV and/or yourselves in the process. We much prefer the bigger and weightier remote control handheld unit associated with the previous TV because the two for this TV are far too small and feel insubstantial.Overall, we are happy with this latest purchase from the Sony TV range.

Extremely disappointing product
29 September 2024

I purchased this TV a couple of weeks ago for the bedroom with high expectations, but as it was purchased via Amazon I hadn’t previously physically seen the product, let alone seen the picture quality, or heard the sound quality. It soon became apparent as we took it out the box that the product not only looks quite old fashioned when compared to other similar TVs of this size I had looked at, but more surprisingly the build quality is actually quite cheap and nasty.Obviously this model isn’t one of Sony’s flagship models, but I was certainly expecting more. Maybe I’ve been spoilt regarding picture quality as our main TV downstairs is a high quality OLED from a different manufacturer, but I can’t tell you how disappointed I am with the overall picture quality of this product. Blacks are not at all black, but just an awful dark grey, which is especially annoying when watching films in letterbox mode as the black bars top and bottom are extremely distracting. Other disappointments are that despite the Google TV aspect being easy to setup initially, once complete the entire menu system is extremely unintuitive. I also don’t understand why this model is supplied with 2 poorly designed cheap remote controls, instead of one better quality remote. The one thing I am pleased with is the sound quality, which for such a small TV is surprisingly good. Also, having a 12 month subscription to Sony’s streaming service is a bonus, which incidentally includes 5 credits to rent some more recent movies.Overall I am genuinely disappointed with the television, and certainly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else.

I bought this tv a few weeks ago as a replacement fir an older 50 tv. I spent some time looking at various brands and models in our local store before coming to my decision to purchase. To be honest, it wasn't my first choice but sadly that was only available in a 55 inch and I needed a 50 inch. So I purchased the Sony which was a close second. Set up was fairly straight forward as I am quite tech savvy. Just as well as the instructions provided are non existent and would be no help whatsoever to anyone who wasn't. The set also comes with two remote controls which is a little confusing. A quick Google search explained why. One is old school lots of buttons remote for those that like that kind of thing. The other is more new generation with preloaded buttons for streaming services and a Mic etc. I think one remote would have been fine to be honest.Once set up and a few tweaks made I have to say I am pleased with the picture quality. The picture is sharp and the colours are excellent. Much better than my old TV.Unfortunately it is let down by the sound. The audio from the built in speakers is poor. Even though there are various adjustments that can be made via the settings menu I still find the sound to be weak. Spoken voice is weak and has a bottom of a can like quality. The base is also weak and not strong enough to give any discernable effect when watching movies etc. Sadly I had to supplement the TV with a soundbar to improve the sound quality. If Sony could improve the sound then this TV would be worthy of a 5 star rating but as it stands it only gets a 4.Come on Sony, pull your finger out and sort out the audio.

Great replacement for previous Sony TV
5 August 2024

We had the previous 'flatscreen' Sony TV for 20 years and when it showed signs of creaking. we automatically looked at Sony for a possible replacement. The newly ordered TV arrived on the day, as arranged. It is essential that there are two of you to remove it from the box to avoid risks of damage to the TV (and yourselves!). The TV was fairly easy to set up although, as a result of instructions being in multiple languages, at times it was difficult to find the information you needed to complete the set-up. Although we used online instructions in the end (including troubleshooting sites), others who do not readily have internet access at home might struggle without assistance from others.Once set up, we cannot fault the quality of the image which is crisp. The sound is also the same but we will in time think about investing in a soundbar. Very minor negative comments include the size of the remotes for both the Sony TV and Google TV that are both far too small. We would also recommend that you unplug the TV from the mains after watching it because the TV does occasionally turn itself back on if you leave it in standby.Overall, we are very happy with our new Sony TV and do not regret sticking with Sony for our viewing pleasure.

I was so impressed with the phone's film viewing quality, I thought it would be great to replicate this on a bigger screen.Imagine my disappointment when the IMAX feature on my phone is not available on the TV. Don't get me wrong, the 4K feature easily makes up for this oversight, but imagine how good IMAX may have been. The in-built speakers really do the job. You can add external ones, though you probably won't need to. Several HDMI ports (4 in total) allow for this, but having tried a couple of different options, I discovered that the in-built ones are best, if for no other reason than having further options to choose from - surround sound etc.I cannot grumble. The TV delivers what it claims to own. For a single person, living alone in a one - bed apartment, this 43" version is ideal. There are other sizes, but I have a feeling a larger model would be out of sync with its surroundings.Another feature is the Acoustic auto calibration. As this suggests, you can "optimise audio outputs according to your listening environment." What this means is that you can locate the device in a particular place, before setting up the audio to account for that location. Sit on your sofa, set it up, and the relative audio will act accordingly.Awesome!!Downside: I attempted to contact Sony customer services, which I did, eventually, only to find out I was chatting with the USA/Canada Team who were unable to assist. After waiting for so long, I gave up in resignation of my life as is.The TV (and the phone) are still great!

Outstanding Product

In my opinion Sony are the best manufacturers of televisions by a country mile. You pay a premium but without question however you're getting the best technology and advancements presently obtainable. The Bravia TV range is no exception the built quality is remarkable and a great deal has been incorporated into the end users viewing experience. The sound and clarity is excellent, the colour and visual experience is excellent. The settings up is mostly straight forward and therefore quickly you're up and running, you don't get much helpful literature included, but it's very easy to obtain additional set-up benefits and support should these be required. My one truly negative point is the two included remote controls, which frankly are ridiculous in so far as size, these are so tiny (in fact the tiniest I've ever seen or used) and therefore makes them difficult to navigate, the even tinier buttons on these remotes means you often press the wrong buttons inadvertently and is thus a fussy and annoying experience. I'm assuming these poorly designed remotes is to encourage use of the app version of the controllers, though I'm not entirely sure. Additionally, I don't give any trust to the design of the included and somewhat very basic TV stand, so an additional expense for a wall bracket in most cases is more than probable, however these days wall brackets are a prerequisite for many modern TV's due to their ever expanding sizes. I recommend the Bravia TV as a strong contender for best in range, with a few ever so minor caveats noted herein. As ever the experience of shopping and delivery with JL was second to none.

Sony Quality, Perfect (almost)
27 July 2024

I bought this set as a replacement for a Sony Bravia dumb TV that I’d had for 18 years, I replaced it even though it had never been any trouble and the picture and sound quality were still superb, but I wanted a Smart TV. I did lots of research, both online and in-store (the more you do, the more confused you get) and eventually decided to go with a brand I trustedI must say the TV is excellent and very easy to set-up straight out of the box. It is light-weight, slim and attractive looking with virtually no bezel. I already had a Google TV box on another device so was familiar with the simple registration process and that went very smoothly. The Google interface is also very straight-forward to use and I had side-loaded some of my favourite apps within the first ... MoreI bought this set as a replacement for a Sony Bravia dumb TV that I’d had for 18 years, I replaced it even though it had never been any trouble and the picture and sound quality were still superb, but I wanted a Smart TV. I already had a Google TV box on another device so was familiar with the simple registration process and that went very smoothly. The Google interface is also very straight-forward to use and I had side-loaded some of my favourite apps within the first hour. The digital TV setup was also very simple, I just plugged the aerial lead into the socket and the TV asked if I wanted to scan for channels, job done. The TV also auto-registered itself with Sony (after I approved it) for Warranty purposes. The picture is superb quality (as you would expect with Sony) and the audio is so good that a soundbar is not required. The only negative I can mention about the TV is the recording function, it doesn’t seem to work. I registered a USB Memory device with the TV and confirmed that it was set-up correctly, but cannot for the life of me get it to record. I follow the rather poor Sony instructions, but the recording sub-menu does not appear as it should, although this is not a big issue for me as it would rarely be used, if at all, it is a function of the TV and should work. This issue is not enough for me to reduce the 5 star rating.

Worth the purchase
24 March 2024

This purchase came about after my 10 yr old KD-49X8505B decided to blow the main board. Whilst I have a lot of Sony products I decided to replace with an alternative brand ( one of the top 3).That decision did last long as the picture quality was nothing like my previous Sony ( I should add that our main viewing is over air channels, film streaming and dvds etc ).Having returned the other Tv I decided to revert back to Sony.Allowing for the price deferential - circa twice the price of alternatives, I am very happy with my choice. For me the TV is all about picture and sound and the Sony appears to be in a different league on that front. My feeling is that it is more expensive for a good reason, its better.Have seen some negative reviews, I was somewhat ... MoreThis purchase came about after my 10 yr old KD-49X8505B decided to blow the main board. With the amount of data on the guide ( great) it does require one to don the glasses !Overall verdict : Very pleased with the TV
