48kHz/24-bit and a nice stereo w/ no aux in

I really like this stereo. Android Auto takes a bit to get working but that's mainly due to quality of USB-C cables. I believe you need a thick and rugged USB 3.1 USB-C to USB-A cable to make it stable. It almost seems like you'd need a thunderbolt type quality cable as most USB-C cables would just constantly drop the phone over and over again. So trial and error found one cable that I got with a device worked right away. :)But anyway... the install went great... they left it configured in a very weird way (speakers all up front, audio settings all odd), but I eventually figured it out. Phone mic on the device was able to hear me most of the time.... I do wish it would stop the "nanny messages of 'don't use certain things while driving, etc." but to its credit, it ... MoreI really like this stereo. I do wish it would stop the "nanny messages of 'don't use certain things while driving, etc." but to its credit, it doesn't stop you from using the phone while you drive like some factory solutions do.Bluetooth is SBC connection only (probably supports AAC, but it doesn't seem like it). Audio via Android Auto is limited to 48kHz. If you use PowerAmp, you can configure it to 48kHz/24-bit audio.. and it sounds great at that level... sadly it can't do 96kHz or 192kHz).Sound is great out of this device and I'm enjoying the interface. I do wish it had an Aux in jack so I could use the Quad DAC on my LG V60, but the added features of Android Auto make up for that. It's not a fast interface.... but it's still good enough to use in a car.I haven't tested the Sirius XM since I don't have a radio... or the USB as a hard drive but even that is limited to 48kHz audio. For me, I do like using Google assistant to tell it to play tracks using PowerAmp and having it do it. Very nice when I drive.Still, it's better than my old factory radio... the limitation of no Aux input and ceiling of 48kHz/24-bit drops it one star... but ultimately, I do really like this radio :)

Better than expected.

Great Fit, Performance, Sound and Ease of Install

After careful consideration and reviewing 50+ different head units, I decided to purchase the Sony - 7" - Android Auto/Apple® CarPlay™ - Built-in Bluetooth - In-Dash Digital Media Receiver - Black for my 2009 Jeep Compass Sport 4x4. 1). It fits like it was made for my dash. It looks awesome! 2). I installed it using my existing amp and speakers and still, the sound quality has improved dramatically from the Pioneer unit I replaced. My phone is a Galaxy J7 and unfortunately is not completely compatible in that I can't connect my device through Android Auto to use my navigator and a few other features from my phone and display it on the screen of the Sony. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with the unit. As a matter of fact, I like it so much that now I'm in the market for an Android or Apple phone that will be 100% compatible so I can take advantage of all the unit has to offer. Great unit! --especially for the money. Buy one, you won't be dissatisfied.

I love this thing! It has Android Auto (and supposedly CarPlay, which I can't test because I don't have an iPhone) which operates via cord only. The BlueTooth is ONLY for audio, and works very reliably. Screen brightness is excellent and touchscreen is responsive, though it shows finger marks easily when the car is turned off. I really wanted a unit with a volume knob, but in absence of that, the "Volume Up'" and "Down" arrows are extremely clear, and I do not anticipate my older parents having trouble figuring it out.Note that Android Auto technology does not allow you to play Netflix or other movie apps, and this is for safety reasons.I bought this open box in excellent condition (in a scramble during pandemic scarcity), and it lives up to the condition ... MoreI love this thing! Free installation was included.Shout out to the installation team in Mountain View (El Camino/American Way). Thanks to my total ignorance and inability to read things closely, I originally bought a stereo with no Android Auto and they had to uninstall then replace it with this one after a couple of weeks. But they were kind, courteous, and extremely quick!Honestly I was pretty nervous that it might be a waste of money,/time/environmental resources to buy this. After all, I just drive a Toyota Prius 2011. But I have absolutely zero regrets, and it's improved my driving experience greatly.

When I try the steering wheel controls, regardless of function ALL of them raise the volume, sometimes running away without stopping until the music is maxed! This can only be corrected by turning the key off and pulling it from the ignition while music is screaming at 115 dB.Im at a loss and will return to Best Buy tomorrow to inquire about a replacement head unit or returning it outright for something better.

Not as good as I hoped

Two main gripes.1. The car play is spotty. Sometimes I get audio pops when playing music. Sometimes thE video gets blocky and I have to exit out of car play and enter back in to get the fix the blocky video issue. And sometimes it completely crashes out of CarPlay and doesn’t detect my phone again until I unplug and plug it back in.2. For Bluetooth. My phone always connects automatically but most of the time it displays a screen saying it couldn’t connect to my bluetooth device despite actually being connected. I just click ok or whatever to get past that screen and it’s actually connected. It’s just annoying that its throws up the error screen when there’s no error.I checked for firmware updates but I’m up to date so there’s no firmware fix for these issues. ... MoreTwo main gripes.1. Otherwise I just use Bluetooth for music and stuff so I don’t have to deal with the car play issues. I know it’s the head unit cuz the car play in my wife’s new car doesn’t have any issues with my phone or my wife’s phone.Kinda bummed that it doesn’t work better cuz I dropped like $400 on it between the headunit, the wiring harness, the dash kit, and the steering wheel control adapter thingy.

By far the worst head unit i ever bought. The usb cable is so loose to the point it cant connect to Android carplay. It disconnect every time you hit a tiny bump. Takes for ever to actually load up Android carplay. When trying to connect to Bluetooth it would act as if its a scracthing cd player. You would have to disconnect the phone and reconnect for the Bluetooth to actually work correctly. There is nothing special about this head unit. All you are really buying is just a piece of junk name brand definitely not worth the 350... iam glad this unit is out of stock... high disappointment

Sony’s product quality is deplorable!

Where to start? DO NOT PURCHASE THIS DEVICE! Further, strongly avoid Sony’s poor product line. Their devices exhibit pairing issues with iPhones even when Firmware has been updated. I still cannot get the voice command to work even after factory resets and software updates on both the Sony and my iPhone. For the amount of time I’ve spent reading the product manual, troubleshooting their and my device, and on the phone with their inept customer service, I feel I am actually owed a cash settlement payout for my time wasted. Yet, I did earn one new absolute truth: I WILL NEVER AGAIN PURCHASE ANYTHING SONY! This organization is apparently no longer representative of quality. I would sooner use my iPhone and the cheap, old Bluetooth speaker I keep on my bike than rely on their garbage products to entertain and guide me while in transit. Even in the rare instances in which this Sony device ACTUALLY “works,” it experiences lags in communication from the external device (e.g. my iPhone) to the display. For example, I often have noted a lack of responsiveness on the touch display for sound apps, requiring me to use the phone, and apps such as Pandora often don’t actually display what one’s listening to but, sadly, a different, long-since passed song. I’ve made arrangements to swap this out with an Alpine. I repeat my conviction that Sony produces subpar products rife with technical deficiencies. In that their software patches do nothing to rectify these issues, they’ve demonstrated an organizational ineptitude such that I state my pledge to never purchase their products again. I’ve wasted enough time to date in dealing with Sony to last multiple lifetimes.

Upgraded for Android Auto!!

This Sony unit packs a great punch at a good price. I had Geek Squad do the install and it is professional and everything works and looks amazing. I mainly use the unit for Android Auto and since that feature is on many units, I will try to stick to features of this specific unitThe unit sounds great, it has the 10 band EQ and it surprisingly makes my stock speakers sound pretty good. It has a peak power of 55 watts, so an amp will be necessary for some but it's good enough for me. Radio stations sound clearer than before and music from Bluetooth sources also just sound more high quality. I don't blast my speakers so I haven't heard any distortion or clipping. Thankfully it isn't too cold where I'm located so I can't say if it would work with gloves on. The buttons are tactile and work nicely. It does offer satellite radio but I don't have a subscription to that. One thing I would personally change is having a volume dial instead of buttons, but that is just a personal preference.
