My old Xperia XZ Premium was. starting to show its age and needed renewing to keep up to date with connectivity (especially Bluetooth).I love Sony reliability and quality and so decided to buy the new Xperia 5 V.I am not disappointed with the quality, connectivity and speed. It is blindingly fast and does everything I need it to do. The battery life is amazing. I'm getting 2 days with reasonably heavy usage, including watching music videos. The only slight downside (which I knew about prior to purchase) is that the display resolution is very acceptable but not quite as good as my old XZ Premium. I would have liked higher resolution but wasn't prepared to pay the price for an Xperia 1 V.

To me it has wonderful design (no annoying notch), bulid quality exceptional, creates great photos and most importantly, it's lightning fast and with absolutely no lag whatsoever. It is just amazing to use the phone. Battery life is good, signal strength is better than on any phone I ever had (Lg G6, Xiaomi mi5, Samsung note 4,...). To me, this phone is everything I have hoped it would be. Front facing camera placement is probably the only downside of this phone, but I hardly ever use it, so it doesn't bother me that much. Picture quality on back camera is really good, although I must admit that I hardly take low light photos, but those I have taken, they seem good to me. Fingerprint scanner is incredibly fast and super accurate. For darker/night time conditions I always use "reading mode" and that makes screen super eye friendly. All in all, this is definitely a phone I would recommend to anyone, except if taking selfies is your favorite thing to do on a phone, not that phone doesn't make good selfies, it's just a bit uncomfortable to always flip the phone upside-down. IMO this is the best bang for the buck on the market.

Compared to the previous phone, I had the Sony Xperia 5 III, this one is a bit better. The size is more or less the same, which is good. The battery keeps a bit longer. The camera is better and I like that there are more options in the basic mode. Overall the phone looks better and I am happy with it, but it has one thing which disappointed me a lot... It doesn't have the notification dot. I use my phone a lot in silent mode and the notification light was very useful. Now I have to check the phone all the time to know if I have a message or something.

Just 3 weeks into ownership of the Xperia 5V, an upgrade from a 5II. The initial impression on arrival was the recycled Bamboo based packaging felt terrible, I understand the benefits for the environment but it doesn't feel premium at all, quite the opposite it reminded me of the feel and texture of disposable hospital sick bowls. However, this initial thought was swept away on holding the handset for the first time. It feels reassuringly solid the Matt gorilla glass back and the gorilla glass screen contribute enormously to the real quality feel. The speakers blew me away best I have ever heard then I connected my Beyer dynamic reference studio headphones to the 3.5mm jack output and oh wow this phone has clearly been created to excel in the audio department, ... MoreJust 3 weeks into ownership of the Xperia 5V, an upgrade from a 5II. The speakers blew me away best I have ever heard then I connected my Beyer dynamic reference studio headphones to the 3.5mm jack output and oh wow this phone has clearly been created to excel in the audio department, simply stunning. Now to the camera I purchased this model because as a keen amateur photographer I wanted quality in a compact package I dismissed the X1V as I didn't need the optical zoom and the size of that handset. The standard lens with the new chip is breathtakingly good I absolutely love it. I am very critical of my own pictures so the hit rate and the quality is fantastic. Finally the battery life is so much better, my phone is everything to me Music player, alarm clock, calendar, communication tool my entire huge family are WhatsApp addicts, audio books and so much more one. Charge all-day my new car has a wireless charging pad so it's great to pop my phone in and get a fast top up and enjoy the instant connection with my Spotify account. I have just ordered a gimbal and cannot wait to get into video production. Love it love it love it
Arguably the best phone I've had in terms of audio quality I've ever had, creating a custom audio profile for my hearing type. And the photo and camera options are up there with dlsr not saying expect the same results as a dedicated camera but you will get phenomenal results for a camera phone, especially at night.Other than that it's a solid android device they're all much of a muchness at this point.Build quality it feels amazing in the hand, properly premium and well made.
I sent the phone back after setting it all up and it was slow on notification like emails, no notification led, no face unlock, screen brightness reaction slow to non existent at times. My old p20 pro is technically not a better phone but for me personally it is. Sorry for the negative review, I really liked my last Sony, z5 compact but I think if you want to compete with the mainstream phones you need to include basic features.
Had a Sony Xperia 5 II because it's a powerful phone in a small size. However, the quality of the Xperia 5 V seems so much better. No longer is the backside and side made of glass and is instead made of metal. It also feels like the phone is running twice as long thanks to a larger batterie and less power hungry SoC.
I like the phone very much. I bit wish I had gone for the bigger screen. I. The only one thing I would say is that for much less money you can buy the oppo a57s the specifications are not that disimalar. B. The camera and sound features on the Sony Xperia blow the oppo out of the water. I bit on the oppo you have the option to increase it from 3gb of ram to 7gb of ran. I will But the Sony Xperia is and always will be my go to phone. I
So happy with my Sony Xperia 5 v, can't tell you! After years in the doldrums putting up with okay phones with okay features, but nothing built with passion or designed to be outstanding, I couldn't be more pleased. Wonderful build quality, great version of Android, a beautiful screen and the best camera I've used since Huawei!
If you like the Xperia range you already know what you're getting and this is a good upgrade to that. Still the compact powerhouse that can be comfortably used one handed with even better battery life than before.I would give it 4.5 stars though of I could. Loss of the notification led is annoying and the fingerprint sensor can be temperamental, so not a perfect model, but still a very strong recommend.
