This is a nice basic speaker, while this won’t quite rock your world the way the next step up in speakers will, this one has a nice balance of sound versus value. Also, it is still a giant improvement on TV or projector speakers. The bass sounds great and adds a whole new dimension to TVs over most built-in speakers on TVs and definitely mine. The box that the soundbar came in was a surprise. The packaging is part of their “Going Green” program to reduce ink and paper use. The box is contoured exactly to the shape of the contents, with no wasted space. While I applaud their efforts, it did make the box awkward for the delivery person to carry. The heavy subwoofer was on the big end and while there was a built-in handle on the box it wasn’t obvious and they didn’t use it.The only way to get the contents out was to slit the tape all the way around. Normally this would be OK, but I like to keep all my boxes and packing material “just in case” and it wasn’t easy to get all the packing material back into the box and re-tape it. The soundbar is 34 inches long, which fits comfortably in front of the TV, between the legs. There isn’t much clearance between the top of the soundbar and the bottom of the TV and I was a little concerned that it would block the signal needed to turn on the TV but I didn’t have any problem with that. The soundbar does come with wall-mounting hardware. It has a USB port that can be used to play songs stored on a USB or to download software updates. There is no HDMI input.The soundbar and subwoofer paired automatically and all I had to do to pair the soundbar to the TV was to go into the TV settings, select the Bluetooth device and pair them. The entire setup using a Bluetooth connection took about 10 minutes.The soundbar can be connected to the TV by either Bluetooth or a digital optical cable. A digital optical cable is included. I did some research and learned that the optical cable connection is preferred over Bluetooth because Bluetooth has a distance limitation and can have lag and quality issues caused by routers, microwaves, or metal. My intent was to set up the soundbar with the optical cable, but due to the position of the TV it was difficult to reach the optical cable input. So I decided to try it with Bluetooth for a while and the sound was perfect - for a day. The next morning the soundbar didn’t work when the TV was turned on. So I went ahead and connected it with the optical cable instead of Bluetooth.The subwoofer has been a little problematic. My husband is very sensitive to low bass sounds and the subwoofer was irritating him so I had to temporarily (I hope) disconnect it. Maybe changing the position will solve the problem. I would’ve preferred having a rear speaker/soundbar package instead of a subwoofer/soundbar package.My old soundbar had a remote, but it also had duplicate buttons on the top for volume, treble/bass, sound mode, power, mute, etc. The Samsung soundbar only has 4 buttons - power, volume up, volume down and source. All other selections are made using the remote. The problem with that is the words describing the selections run across a small area of the bar and it’s difficult to read the long descriptions.The one annoying problem has been trying to configure the TV remote to adjust the soundbar sound. The user manual describes how to do it using the woofer bar on the soundbar remote, but that will only work until the TV is turned off. The Samsung TV also has issues. When I change the sound to “Optical” in settings it reverts to TV speakers when the TV is turned off. I’ve worked on it for 5 days and still no luck. I hear that Samsung support is excellent so it looks like I’m going to get a chance to find out for myself.As for the sound quality - I don’t hear much difference between this one and my 5 year old Insignia. The advantage of the Samsung soundbar was that I could use the TV remote to control the volume. Since that isn’t working and I can’t use the subwoofer, this isn’t much of an upgrade. But hopefully I’ll be able to solve those 2 problems in the near future.

The unit comes with power cords and an optic cable, as well as hardware to mount the soundbar to the wall if you want.The installation and setup was completely effortless...just a simple connection of the power cords, connecting the optic cable. The most difficult part of the setup/installation process was determining exactly how I wanted to place the soundbar in relation to the television. In the end, I placed the soundbar itself to the right of the television, and the bass unit across the room pointed toward my sofa. Yes, the bass unit is wireless, and that is, in and of itself, one of the greatest selling points of the system, at least in my opinion. This allows for a very customizable setup. I was able to use the bluetooth connection, but for some reason it just sounds better to me using the cable, so I was a bit tethered as far as the soundbar itself goes. Had I gone with the bluetooth setup, I could have had the soundbar sitting right behind the sofa.After getting it all hooked up, it was just a matter of turning on the TV and the soundbar, and enjoying the sound. Almost everything can be controlled from the included remote. There are several different sound modes you can choose from, and as well you can adjust the bass to suit your own particular listening experience.In all seriousness, I was extremely surprised at just how good the Samsung soundbar sounds. Dialog is crystal clear, highs and lows are not garbled or lacking, and the bass!! It is almost like sitting in an IMAX theater when the bass is at max, and no distortion. I don't know how they do it, but when the surround sound mode is enabled, it seems to completely fill the room with rich clear sound. And did I mention the bass?When it is all said and done, the bottom line is whether the Samsung HW B450/ZA offers a sound experience that is not only completely enjoyable, but worth the investment. The answer is absolutely yes! When you sit down to watch TV, you want to be able to hear everything. You don't want to have to sacrifice dialog in order to enjoy bass, and you don't want to listen to explosions and other bass-intensive sounds that are only shadows, simply in order to hear the dialog. The Samsung brings you the best of both with no sacrificing...even at this price point! It simply delivers the entire package.I would, and will heartily recommend the HW-B450/ZA 2.1 ch Soundbar to all my friends and family. Next, I wanted to test out how well movies sound, this is where the soundbar started to shine. The voice enhance really works well with raising the vocal levels - making it much easier to hear spoken words. The surround sound effect was actually pretty impressive, and the bass was pretty good with explosions. The one problem that I have, and this happens with every Samsung soundbar that I have used, the vol level is inconsistent. Meaning, the volume gets higher and lower sporadically.Overall, the Samsung B450 is a great entry level soundbar. It has a wide range of audio levels from lows to highs and the wireless subwoofer packs a decent punch for added bass. The downsides are; no HDMI connection, and over time the vol levels get a little wonky. All in all, this is solid soundbar.

I had previously eschewed the soundbar ecosystem for quite some time, because of the quality of sound, and the inability to run a wire in the space I wanted to use it in. Cue the Samsung B450. I trust Samsung, they make good stuff! I have a bunch of Samsung components. I had previously eschewed the soundbar ecosystem for quite some time, because of the quality of sound, and the inability to run a wire in the space I wanted to use it in. Cue the Samsung B450. I trust Samsung, they make good stuff! I have a bunch of Samsung components. Well if you've got a less than 2 year old Samsung TV, good news, you can stop reading. If you're looking to hook this up to another TV, then read on. This soundbar has great sound. Love the 3 front channels, not a lot of bass, but crisp and clean and filling. Also there are some great built in modes for dialog enhancement. But this soundbar doesn't do any A/V switching, and doesn't connect to your video device. It's Bluetooth or SPDIF/Optical only. That's right, limited connection options. Because there's no way for it to do video passthrough, and therefore an on screen display, everything is handled with the remote and a criminally undersized segmented LCD display. I find myself needing the manual handy just to navigate the modes and how to get there. This is not optimal. Granted it's not that big of a deal at the price point, but man it's aggravating. I am able to connect it to a roku and an apple tv streaming devices as a bluetooth speaker, and it sends the full dolby channels, but I still have to contend with the delay, which is also not optimal for using it with a screen. Especially a large one. There ARE audio extractors that will pull an SPDIF signal from an HDMI cable and let you do passthrough/hook it up to any source, but this doesn't solve the lack of an on screen display and means you have to spend another $20+ on getting connected. had this product been marketed $50-$75 higher and included on screen menus and HDMI passthrough, I would gladly have paid the difference, as the audio is great.

I love the simplified design of this sound bar it looked premium. The listening experience provided from this sound bar is night and day compared to my old sound bar of 5 years ago. It has the ability to turn background music into foreground music. It draws out all the nice little nuances you may have missed if you were only watching movies with TV speakers or listening to music through your phone.One thing that I appreciate about this set up is that the subwoofer isn't punchy. The lows just don't bellow out like my old one. I can actually hear the booms rise and fall in movies and in music. The bar itself has the range to tackle any genre of music I've thrown at it so far. The Bluetooth connection is solid and holds true. To me it does have that movie theater quality sound, but this time you can fine tune the settings to your liking. The sound profiles are lacking but I really didn't need to adjust anything. I use surround sound for movies and gaming and the other for watching news, listening to podcasts, or other voice centered media. Either setting gets great results.I guess the only thing I could wish for was some RCA inputs so I could connect my turntable. There are other work arounds if I use the USB input and a converter cable, so I can't mark it down for not having it. Other than that, this bar turns the listening experience into a nice tapestry of sound and blends it all together very well.

Not knowing what to do next, we decided to telephone Kennedy's Electrical in Cairns and spoke to a very experienced salesperson (Jason) who provided some very very helpful advise about what we should and shouldn't purchase for my mother. Because my mother had over the years previously purchased a tv set, a washing machine and a stove off Kennedy's Electrical and her name was still in their computer system, the salesman (Jason) said that he would pop out to her house on the Northern Beaches of Cairns after he finished work at 5.30pm and set it up for her. I thought the service he was offering my elderly mother was amazing. What's even more amazing was that it was the 24th of December (Christmas Eve). Wow... this type of service is not only unbelievable in this day and age... but totally non-existent. I was at my mothers house when he (Jason) arrived with the new sound bar system and he proceeded to set up the new sound bar on her tv in no time. He had a wonderful presence and was reassuring with my mother that she had in fact purchased the right piece of equipment for her tv. Since the passing of my father, my mother watches the news every night and sometimes likes to watch a movie if she can't get to sleep. She loves the quality of sound that now comes out of her older tv and like me she is most grateful to the helpful service she received from Kennedy's electrical in Cairns. I have never ever filled out one of these reviews in my life before for the many companies that request a review from me because I feel many are not at all genuine and are not at all deserving of me taking the time to write a review.
