Besides the rugged mold, the Spacetalk Adventurer Kids Smart Watch is also IP67 rated. It is waterproof to a depth of about 4 feet for up to 30 minutes. The rating also implies components are protected against dust particles. The enclosed battery easily lasts a day with typical use. The charging dock magnetically attaches to the smartwatch and has an LED to confirm charging status. Charging is about two hours from empty. It has a micro-USB port and the device ships with only a cable, just like most electronics currently do. The device provides visual, sound and vibration feedback.The Spacetalk App (downloadable from either Google Play or Apple App store) in my opinion is the biggest selling point. They had no trouble registering their inputs.As a parent who has longed believed on waiting until much later to get children “connected’, I have been very impressed about Spactetalk’s approach. The parent essentially controls every aspect of the Spacetalk Adventurer Kids Smart Watch. As previously stated, only configured contacts may communicate with the device, meaning no SPAM calls which in my opinion is very helpful these days. Within the app, the wearer’s location can be determined. Zone alerts can also be created to send out alerts when the wearer exits/returns to the zone. The GPS monitoring function automatically reports the wearer’s location from as frequent as every five minutes to as lengthy periods as an hour. There is also an on-demand location feature that instantaneously provides the wearer’s location. The map also depicts the parent’s position relative to the wearer and can also help navigation by invoking Google Maps, UBER etc. A satellite layer can be selected for the base map if preferred. The device can also be located when misplaced through the Find My Spacetalk feature which allows the device to ring at full volume, vibrate and increase brightness levels to aid the effort.The weather feature is through Accuweather and updates the parent with the weather conditions of the wearer’s environment. The School Mode helps parents disable specific apps (or all of them) for either specific periods or on a recurring basis. To mimic a “pause”, two pencils are displayed on the home screen when this feature is enabled. I see this as a huge benefit to help prevent distraction when worn to school or other sensitive locations. The parent can also receive alerts when the device is either taken off the wearer wrist or put back on. Low battery levels (below 15 percent) are reported to the parent; the wearer also gets an alert on the home screen that remains until the battery is charged past that level. The clever app even alerts parents to remind their children to charge overnight. Speaking of control, the Spacetalk App allows parents to restrict certain emoji’s, use only preset messages or the use of a keyboard for actual message composition. By now it should be apparent why/how I have become a convert; the sheer amount of control and alerts afforded the parent is priceless in my opinion. Most cellphone companies also have plans on the low end for smartwatches that makes the Spacetalk Adventurer Kids Smart Watch a very affordable solution. Setup is very easy and straightforward. There is no Wi-Fi but I believe the primary use of the device is for monitoring when children are away and possibly in an environment without Wi-Fi. In addition, even if there was Wi-Fi capability, it would/could introduce a layer of stress with regards to making that connection when children were alone.Both children commented on the “lack” of downloadable apps to which I responded was not the intent of the device. They were excited about the prospect of potentially taking it to school on account of the School Mode feature. During setup, they stated the device was a little warm. The only issue I have run into is with the fitness feature which appears to be behind for capturing the steps when displayed graphically. As an example, it appears to assign the current day’s steps to the previous; month and date also appear impacted. I am positive this can/will be fixed via a software update. Speaking of updates, the notification appears to linger while the update is in progress, leading the parent to question if their initial confirmation to perform the update was actually registered. Again, not a dealbreaker but an observation.The Spacetalk Adventurer Kids Smart Watch is definitely one of the best out there to provide safe, effective control as children are empowered with the benefits of a cellphone. There are a good number of applications included with the watch including calling, texting, chatting with other devices, location, fitness, weather, stopwatch, award stars for chores, camera, photo album, alarm, calendar, calculator, flashlight mode and the ability to create a buddy list. The watch display does turn off to save battery life and is awakened by double tapping on it.Parents are alerted when the watch is turned on and when it is turned off and taken off. Alerts remind parents to charge the watch as well. There is a locate me function built into the application to find your child. This is very informational.The only issue that I see with the watch is the size of it. This is very large for small wrists. It is extremely durable with gorilla glass and the band is high quality with several adjustment holes. It isn’t overly heavy, but it is big. I will want to see if my child continues to wear it because of the size.This is an amazing device from a feature standpoint and if the design could be improved to make it smaller, it would even better yet.

It may not be as important as the other features, but my son still thinks it's neat to see how well he's doing and even tries to compete with this friends.== BOTTOM LINE ==If you're considering getting your child a phone, but still don't think they're old enough for one just yet, this is an AMAZING alternative. There's no internet, no social media access, and no games. It's a smartwatch that can make and receive calls+messages, with great features any parent will appreciate. My only real complaint is that the watch bands are proprietary and Spacetalk's website only sells silicone bands.

If the emergency calling is activated, it dials all contacts that have been designated as emergency contacts.The watch is very easy to navigate with swiping actions. There are a good number of applications included with the watch including calling, texting, chatting with other devices, location, fitness, weather, stopwatch, award stars for chores, camera, photo album, alarm, calendar, calculator, flashlight mode and the ability to create a buddy list. The watch display does turn off to save battery life and is awakened by double tapping on it.Parents are alerted when the watch is turned on and when it is turned off and taken off. Alerts remind parents to charge the watch as well. There is a locate me function built into the application to find your child. This is very informational.The only issue that I see with the watch is the size of it. This is very large for small wrists. It is extremely durable with gorilla glass and the band is high quality with several adjustment holes. It isn’t overly heavy, but it is big. I will want to see if my child continues to wear it because of the size.This is an amazing device from a feature standpoint and if the design could be improved to make it smaller, it would even better yet.

It may not be as important as the other features, but my son still thinks it's neat to see how well he's doing and even tries to compete with this friends.== BOTTOM LINE ==If you're considering getting your child a phone, but still don't think they're old enough for one just yet, this is an AMAZING alternative. There's no internet, no social media access, and no games. It's a smartwatch that can make and receive calls+messages, with great features any parent will appreciate. My only real complaint is that the watch bands are proprietary and Spacetalk's website only sells silicone bands.

Probably the most valuable feature of this watch is the ability to use the GPS to know exactly where your child is, which will make a HUGE difference when attempting to locate a vulnerable child, and locate them quickly.First off, the build quality of this watch feels spot on. The watch feels solid, but yet is not heavy. This seems like a difficult balance to achieve, however Spacetalk nails it. Even though this device feels like it can take a punch, Spacetalk also includes a screen protector because as we all know...life happens.Setup of the watch is fairly simple. As with most other smart devices, you begin with downloading the appropriate app and creating an account. In this case, it is the appropriately named Spacetalk app. The app itself will walk you through setup and signing up for cell service, which is required. I was fortunate enough to be speaking with Spacetalk's Texas based customer support as I set up the watch and they are, BY FAR, the best customer service I have spoken with in a very long time. The representative walked me through the setup as if he was setting up a watch right beside me. He knew the entire process, how long each step should take, and was an absolute joy to work with.After getting the watch up and running, there is a little bit of a learning curve. I wore the watch for about 4 hours after setup to learn the ins and outs of the watch and app. Be warned, there is a little bit of a learning curve. Its not bad and you can learn as your child is using the watch. But here are the cliff notes:- You must add to the watch contacts anyone you want your child to be able to communicate with- The watch does not have the ability to use wifi, but does have bluetooth- Chat is only able to be used by people using the Spacetalk app, Messaging is like text messaging.- The Watch comes with Jumpy Service powered by AT&T, but can work with any provider. Customer service does not suggest using Verizon, as there have been issues- Set up safe zone geofences to be alerted if your child enters or leaves the zoneAfter my 7 year old child using the watch I have a very positive opinion of the product. She has taken to the watch pretty well, possibly too well. I have set up 6 different contacts for her, and I am pretty sure that she calls each one of them at least twice a day.I have ran into a couple issues with the watch, however. Once when my daughter was wearing the watch and sitting on the couch under a blanket. After about 5 minutes, the watch became extremely hot and the watch gave an error stating that it overheated. We have replicated this situation and it has not happened again. Also the alerts for when my child removes the watch are spotty. I have received notifications that my daughter removed the watch from her wrist almost an hour after she actually took it off. I also wish that the geofences were able to be made smaller than their smallest setting as the smallest is essentially the size of my neighborhood.Overall, I really like the potential this watch has and the customer service you receive. Through firmware updates this watch has the ability to be an amazing product. It is a good product now, but in the future, I KNOW that it will be great.

The watch overheated twice while attempting to download the firmware update and automatically placed the watch in Airplane mode. Once I cooled down the watch I was able to update the firmware and pair it with my phone via the spacetalk app. I'm happy to say that once the firmware update was completed I did not have any issues with the watch overheating.The Spacetalk app has many parenteral controls so you can locate your child and only allow them to be contacted by people on the approved list. I also liked that it has wrist detection so that you will be alerted if the watch is removed from your child's wrist. The watch also lets you create a geofence so that you are alerted if they leave or enter a specified area. You can also set up SOS alerts that can contact approved contacts or emergency services and provide your child's location. School mode can be activated while your child is at school so they are not distracted. The watch also doubles as a fitness tracker and camera so that your kids can take a few pictures during the day. Overall my experience with the watch has been positive and my son loves having his own "cell phone". Battery life easily lasts the whole day and it gives you the peace of mind that you can get in touch with your child since the phone is strapped to their wrist. The watch seems very durable with the gorilla glass and IP67 rating so it should be able to handle a few bumps during the course of the day. Even though I had a few hiccups during the initial set up my experience with the watch has been flawless since. I would recommend this product to my anyone looking for a cell phone alternative for their child.

This is noted, but I wanted to go with the current service provider I have for myself and family. After attempting my provider and another, I finally manually added network settings to the watch’s APN area and a phone call later got the watch online.The interface runs smoothly, but inconvenient when trying to type or do something manually to get the watch activated. Once activated, it’s ported over their app on your mobile device in which you gain control of all of the additional limited settings to provide to the child. It worked great in our area, with exception to other areas where service was not always available to the watch as there was service to my mobile. The watch is limited to 4G and did check that my phone was on a 4G network or lower that the watch is supported by when had service issues. The calls were pretty clear with some issues, service related. I was able to see my child when I wanted to with some delays in updates, may be due to the school at times as my service seems to fall while on campus also. Please note this watch is designed to be used within the US.It did cost me two extra things if would have planned to keep the watch online, but part of the initial cost was covered due to testing through Spacetalk. First, another monthly fee for a phone SIM, and second; an additional monthly fee that ties to their service. Anyone looking to purchase this, would have an initial upfront cost for the device, additional contract or monthly phone plan, a Spacetalk service plan, and then a continued service fee for the SIM provider and Spacetalk. I did a little extra research on this and the company is still up and coming, this seems to be their second kids focused watch while a third is avail for Senior Citizens.The device last about a day, use varying and will last longer than a full day. Charging is where my biggest issue is. The watch has this small little rectangular base to place the watch onto for charging and no notes that it will not be easy to set the watch on top of or on its side to charge using this base. Conveniently, the company sells a base stand for charging the watch…perhaps this should have just been included because trying to let my child place it on the charger to feel like an adult, they struggled just to get it to sit right, as well as I did. Removed the bands and viola; charged fine, but this is not something we want to have to go through each time we need to charge the watch and then return the bands each time we’re ready to use the watch.Overall, the concept is on the right track and will continue to get better in time.

To that end, it does accommodate the younger ones that may not have their full reading skills yet with already prepared messages that they can text to whoever. My grandchild is very tall for her age and the fit of the watch is perfect on her wrist.So, we were emailed instructions to call in the company's 800 number before we set up and activated the phone that said it would entail about a 30 minute phone call. Unfortunately, I received the watch when my son and his wife-to-be were recovering from a bout with Covid. Therefore, I had to wait a few days until their quarantine ended, which took it a weekend day. The toll free 800 number is only answered M-F, from 9 am-5pm, CST. We made a 3 way call as soon as possible, a Monday morning around 10 or so, but while we waited on the line until a customer service agent would pick up, it eventually went to a message that they were closed and to call again during business hours. We tried to recall several times over a period of time, but to no avail. However, later that day or within the next day or so, I did personally receive a call from a man named Bobby who told me that they were having trouble with their VOIP phone system, in fact, our call messed up when he could not hear me on my end and eventually dropped. Bobby immediately called me back and was really very helpful and willing to discuss all that he thought that would be helpful.By this time, my son and his fiancée had already downloaded the smartphone app and set up the watch, but they did think that the set up was difficult. The watch itself functions great. It has the options for: calling, texting, messaging, a heart monitor, a calculator, and a light. There are a couple functions that me and my wife-to-be really enjoy, that make us feel more comfortable when she is not with us and wearing the watch. The first is the GPS function. Previously, we have used a watch similar to this one that had GPS, but that previous watch used cell tower signals, which did not work so well when the tower signals from a carrier did not have a strong enough signal. Literally, we would give us notifications that she was located in Hong Kong or Florida, which is ridiculous because we know she was in our town on a visit. According to the man that I spoke wound up speaking to, the Spacetalk Adventure watch uses a very specific version of Google Maps GPS that really fine tunes the child's location and gives the location's address so that you know exactly where they are. Satellites that are able to so specifically locate the watch has proven to be more accurate continuously than the previous watch mentioned.The other function we like is called the SOS option. The child needs to be educated on this feature and how to use it. They simply swipe up and then swipe right and a big red button should appear. If the child were to activate this option, it would send out a call, text, and notification to the first emergency contact and if that call would not be answered, it would text the same number as well, and if neither were responded to, it would start sending the same sequence of events to all the emergency contacts that were preset into the watch. After talking to the representative of the company, he told me that once the SOS feature is activated, if there is a bad person who might be trying to turn off the watch, rip it off the child, or try to destroy it would be useless because once the signal from the watch is dispatched, the signal is already gone and out of the chicken coop and the emergency contacts are notified with a location for authorities, which have helped in tracking kidnappings and also other close situations. The rep that called me shared a quick story. This watch was originally made to be sold in Australia and the UK. Apparently, there was a case in Scotland where a child sent out the SOS signal and his father happened to be physically close, only a block or so away when he got the distress signal. This involved a boy and a man was following him and clearly making the child uncomfortable for his personal safety. The father got to his son before any misdeed occurred, but the police were then contacted and the company was able to help them with GPS information of where the boy had been and they were able to apprehend said bad guy.Another function that is useful is the school function. When activated, the watch can block calling and texting and other functions during the school day, ie. 8 am-3 pm, except for like heart beat and other health functions that can track heartbeat, etc. that can be programmed to be usable during gym class on certain days at certain times. Another feature is called Safe Zone within the app. This allows the parents to use the geo sensor and virtually allows them to put fences around areas that they are allowed to be, by address, so that if they wander or are taken somewhere else not within the fenced area an alert is issued. That radius can be as small or as large as the parent allows and they can also attach time constraints that the child can be there. As far as your privacy goes, the company that makes this watch does not have access to the contacts that you program in the watch and they do not sell to anyone-he said that privacy, safety, and ethics are very important to them.Some fun facts about this watch: it is IP 67 and therefore, water resistant, not water proof-should be able to handle no deeper than 4 feet for up to 30 minutes, uses a Qwerty keyboard for texting, etc., the ability for both parents to device share and be contacted through the app to receive calls, texts, and notifications by parent A sending an email to parent B once they too have set up an account. Passive listening is not available, where a person in the child's orbit can be listened to on the parents' side without that person with the child knowing that they are being listened to. That might be a very sticky issue in states where that is not legal, however, the child can initiate either a call and put it on speaker or do a video chat, with or without the person in the room's permission. Our watch came with a sim card and a gift card for $20 for cell use which we did not have to currently use since the sim card from the previous watch was transferred and we already had cell service to it with its own telephone number. The Adventurer is new with more bells and whistles than earlier iterations. The customer rep said that updates are infrequent, but necessary to download.By the way, the reason that we are giving it a 4 star rating is because as I was getting ready to write this review today, the watch started sending messages about the GPS, one of the most important features. It is stating that device is out of range while that is not true or turned off, and that is not true. My son will be calling the toll free help line tomorrow and I hope that this issue can and will be immediately be resolved. The toll free number is available for free help for the life of the watch and as long as the child uses it.

My kid doesn't say they mind the size very much, but I think there might be some subconscious bias about that, because they haven't been wearing the watch every day.The setup process was fairly long and involved with the included JumpySIM. I used the Spacetalk customer service hotline to guide me through the setup process, and I found the customer service agent friendly and thorough. It was through this process that I learned I can't just set the watch up on a $5/month watch-specific plan from my main carrier, T-Mobile, but would have to add a phone line. This is not ideal for my situation as a new Magenta Max line would cost quite a bit. I might stick with JumpySIM or find some other service that offers decent coverage for less than $18/month.My next frustration was with adding me kid's information to the watch. My kid is non-binary, and I was sad to see that the app allows only "male," "female," or "unspecified" as the gender options. In addition to that, all notification's about the kid's activity include the phrase "his/her," as in "Chris has shared his/her location with you." That's awfully binary. I think something should be done to allow for gender neutral identities and custom pronouns in the app and notifications for those who want that option.As I mentioned in the intro, we haven't been loving the watch for summer, but maybe it's our particular situation. My kid is regularly active, and they like using the step tracking function as a way to gamify that activity, but in general, they get kind of bored with it and haven't been wearing it every day. They stick close to home and haven't been in any summer camps, so maybe that's why we haven't been pushing its use too much.I think when school starts, we'll get more use out of it. I like that we have the option of disabling all apps or allowing specific ones to be accessed, and I like that we'll be able to get stay in touch with our kid during and after school if necessary. They'll be looking after a littler sibling after school this year, so location tracking, easy phone calls, and geofencing will be very helpful.
We bought this space watch after being disappointed with another kids tracker watch due to that products customer service & lack of info about the product updates needed/how it works info etc.The space watch is good at calling out (as my daughter has practiced more than required!) and the volume on the watch is just about ok for conversations but it could really do with one or two more noise level increases to make it easier to hear in busy situations, especially for the incoming calling alert sound. I like that the contacts list can have pictures alongside the names of the contacts (these show in the watch screen) to make it easier for younger kids to find who they want to call.The SOS calling button is a bit under developed I feel, as it can be easily pressed ... MoreWe bought this space watch after being disappointed with another kids tracker watch due to that products customer service & lack of info about the product updates needed/how it works info etc.The space watch is good at calling out (as my daughter has practiced more than required!) and the volume on the watch is just about ok for conversations but it could really do with one or two more noise level increases to make it easier to hear in busy situations, especially for the incoming calling alert sound. It would have been better if it was something that didn't go off accidentally so easily, maybe a button you have to press in on the side of the watch would be an improvement? The SOS option will call a set list of contacts until someone answers but I'm not sure if it will stop calling out if it goes to an answerphone if it deems that answered?The tracking function seems accurate so far but it could be improved by reducing the safe zone to less than 140m diameter from the safe point you program in to the app.The app is easy enough to use and the customer service is really good, they've answered the phone pretty quickly whenever I've called. The watch itself is quite chunky and there are a lot of app options in the watch for the wearer to use, which I feel is a couple too many for the main functions of the watch. Because if the amount of 'stuff' they've put in to the watch it does mean the writing is quite small and pressing the right area on the watch can be fiddly. The messaging function has programmable preset words or sentences you can pick from or you can write your own with a querty keyboard - this is split though so switching between two screens to complete a sentence is too much to bother with normally.I only bought this because the previous one I bought didn't have a reliable customer service and wasn't as user friendly for understanding how to make it work safely and more reliably. I feel the price of the space watch is too high for the user experience but it's the better option at the present time so I just felt I had to suck it up. I hope improvements are made but the main function this watch serves me is to help keep track of my daughter in events situations and summer clubs where I'm not always with her.
