With neighbor and our 2 boys installed in 2.5 hours. Be sure you have deep socket sockets. Will need up to 3/4". I read lots of complaints about puting the 2 poles together. We put some lubricant on the pole and turned them upaide down. We lifted about 12 to 18 inches and slammed like it says. Went almost all the way on 1st hit. Two more smaller taps and was aligned. The rest of the install was like doing other items similar. We did have 2 holes we had to slightly drill out just slightly to get the bolt through. There is also a spalding beast install video online to reference. Do not attempt alone! Once up not too hard to move and appears very solid. See how it holds up now i guess. So far so good and happy with it. Was really scared to buy based on install videos ... MoreWith neighbor and our 2 boys installed in 2.5 hours. Be sure you have deep socket sockets. The main posts have literally no tolerance, as the powder coated paint causes it to be nearly impossible at times to get the required 4" of overlap. For my last unit I used a belt sander to grind down the outside of one of the posts and a hand grinder to whittle down the excess metal that turned in on the holes in manufacturing. This worked, but otherwise you can almost not get these together, and this should be corrected. They did send replacement posts literally within two days, so their response was excellent. Some of the holes should be drilled larger to allow for movement and alignment. We did have some pieces broken when they arrived, but again Spalding replaced these immediately. Worth the hassle, but these issues wouldn't be that hard to correct.

Great hoop once put together
19 October 2022

The hoop is great once put together but in my case the putting together part was not very straightforward. The base post is two pieces that are supposed to fit together by slipping the lower post into the upper post and then bolting them together. The posts did not fit together. The lower was too big and would not even start to slip into the upper.I ended up using a sledgehammer to bend in the sides of the lower post near the end and then bent in the corners so that it would be small enough to start inside the upper post. I stood the two posts on top of each other and hammered on the bottom post with a sledgehammer to force them together. I had to use a metal drill bit to widen one of the mounting points. Everything else went together fine but would have been easier with a third person for a few steps.

Great system but challenging to put together
4 January 2023

If I had known how difficult this was going to be to put together then I wouldn't have purchased it. That being said, now that it is together, it looks amazing and is well worth the pain of construction. A couple of tips, there is a step that requires you to line up two pieces of steel and bash them on the ground to get them together. There is no easier way to do this (I did a lot of googling to check). We needed 4 people, and 30mins of bashing, but eventually got them into the right spot. The instructions also tell you to stand the base up before attaching the back board. This was impossible. The back board was too heavy to lift that high. Instead leave it on your saw horse and attach the back board with it lying down. Then careful raise it back up. Solid unit, truly portable unlike lesser systems

Great unit once you survive set up. Comes in two large, heavy boxes. Fit in the back of an SUV with the back seats folded flat. Packed well, took around 40 mins to open everything up, lay it all out and to put all the plastic, styrofoam and cardboard away. The more people you have helping with fitting the two main poles together the better. Sprayed heaps of silicon spray (WD40 would work too) and got up an A-frame ladder to ram the 2 poles home. They are a very tight interference fit, would not recommend attempting to fit them dry. Manual says two able bodied people are required for some steps, the more the merrier, I am mechanically minded and the entire setup process took around 4-5 hrs. Manual says two able bodied people are required for some steps, the more the merrier, I am mechanically minded and the entire setup process took around 4-5 hrs. Quadruple check the poles are facing the right way as they cannot be seperated once they are pressed together!Manual does not say this (it should!) but make sure the plastic sleeve that goes over the height adjustingram has the circle cut out facing out. This circle allows you to later stick the height measurement stickers on when calibrating the system height. Most challenging bit was attaching the backboard to the support arms. I'd recommend four people do this while the system is supported on a saw horse. One person to line up the washers and spacers, the other 3 holding up the heavy glass backboard. Do not over-tighten at this stage or it will be extremely difficult to wind the backboard up and down by the handle.Filling the base requires a bit of time also, halfway at first, after the backboard is attached and the system is still on the saw horse. This will make it easier to allow the system to be tipped upright. Ear to the base as it's filling will tell you how far it's been filled. Some holes for the front plastic rebounder plate did not line up 100% and had to be skilfully worked. Leaving all the screws loose till you get the last one lined up and in will be the best way to do it.We've had numerous systems over the years, the beast replaced a 54" polycarb spalding system. With the hoop tension set to the max setting there is no contest - the beast is super solid and has much less give and wobble. Ball comes off the rim close to the way it does off a stadium hoop. No lucky bounces! Finally the handle/lever system really does allow the system to be moved around. Poor turning circle but can be wheeled around easily by 1 person.

This is a fantastic Basketball System for the home! The portable base allows you to move it around as you need with ease using the hidden lift-jack wheel system on the front. It's fully height adjustable from 2.3m to 3m using the handle on the rear. And the 54in Glass Backboard handles being outdoors in all elements, as well as providing excellent rebounding. The base holds 190litres of water and provides the basis for a solid platform and excellent overall stability of the system. The downside to this system is the build process as it comes completely flatpacked in two very heavy boxes. The instruction manual is well layed out and easy to follow in most parts, however there were two parts that were issues arose. First was when you had to connect the two parts of the rear pole - top and bottom. They needed to slot into each other and overlap a certain distance. Challenging, and I just managed it with a great deal of banging! The second was when it came time to connect the glass backboard to the rear poles. Following the instructions, you did this with the system standing completely upright, which just didn't make sense to me - cause how are you going to get up there? And holding the glass backboard at that height for any period of time was going to be significantly difficult. The instructions need to be amended to have the backboard connected whilst the system is lying down (which it is for most of the early part of the setup), and then stood up!As a family we absolutely love this Basketball System. It's awesome! Already having family competitions every day! Highly recommeded and would have given it a 5star except for the issues encountered with setup/instructions.

Tough assembly, but the finished product is worth it.

I purchased the Beast after my HOA wouldn't allow me to put an inground model in. I wanted something sturdy that plays as close to a gym type goal for my sons to play/practice on and boy does it deliver! This thing is rock solid! Barely, if any movement on shots and when we lower it down for some dunking fun, it can even handle my 240lbs hanging on the rim. Raising and lowering is easy, my 11 year-old can do it by himself. He can even maneuver the whole system around by himself; the wheel system on it is very cool and easy to use when it needs repositioning.A couple of things to be aware of:1) Assembly is time consuming and certain parts of it requires at least 2, if not 3 people (on certain steps) to do without killing yourself. Getting the two main poles together can be a bear. Most people say grease them and that helps, but it still took me and my brother to keep it stable while banging them together. Also, one of the last steps is putting the backboard on and needs 2 adults, but preferably 3. The 60 inch glass is heavy and holding it by yourself while the other person attaches the bolts was made MUCH easier after I asked my neighbor to help me hold it up. If you have a pickup, backing it up to the goal and having everyone stand on the bed/tailgate I found to be better than doing ladders or stools.2) This may seem obvious, but it is BIG; they don't call it the beast for nothing. It does take up space on the court (driveway) due to the base. When we have company, I have to move it to the side of the house for additional parking. Of course this is made super easy by the aforementioned wheel system; I am still blown away by how easy this very large and very heavy system can be moved. I am guessing my HOA at this point is probably wishing they had just let me put one inground, because of the size of this thing isn't a "cleaner" look if you will; that being said, it doesn't look cheap or trashy at all...it looks like a big, honkin', high quality, BEAST!Lastly, be prepared for the neighborhood kids to become your kid's best friend. Everyone wants to come over and play now. This doesn't bother me, the boys are spending more time outside instead of on electronics and are playing/practicing more than ever. I would purchase this again.

I mean, you can't go wrong with a name like The Beast. You just know it's going to be something special.First of all, this hoop is built like a tank. It can handle any dunk you throw at it, even if you're Shaq-sized. The adjustable height feature is a game-changer too. I mean, my seven-year-old nephew can dunk on it and then we can crank it up to NBA regulation height and I can still dunk on it too (if I jump on a trampoline first). It's also got a massive backboard, so you can practice your bank shots like you're Steph Curry. We just bought with the above hoop with assembly option. The guys installing it changed the time on the day of which was annoying (from noon to 3) but most importantly we just noticed they DID NOT install the four bolts on the front of the left side on stadium pad- upon closer inspection they couldn’t because they installed the one “base strut” upside down covering up the holes for the bolts and not lining up with the parallel bracket. They likely didn’t fix because by time they would have noticed at the end, they would have had to back to the initial steps which would have take hours. They didn’t tell us this AND took the four necessary bolts WITH them that belong to us so we don’t even have the bolts we need. Can’t believe we paid 500.00 for this. We could overlook everything until seeing the FOUR MISSING bolts and jeopardizing my family’s safety. Spaulding will be hearing from us.
