I had some very high reach overhanging branches to prune on a hawthorn so quite a good test. This cut through branches up to approx 25mm easily. The adjustable hand toggle on the pull string is a great feature. The saw attachment was a little wobbly but that was at full extension. The saw was great for thicker branches though and did the job, cutting through 50m branches easily. 5* for the pruner cutter and 4* for the saw. I think it will last as seems well made, but it’s great value even if it doesn’t. It would have cost 4 times this price to get someone in to do the job I did in a few hours!

Bought when my Fiskar Pruner disintegrated. (Cord pulleys flew off). Simpler cord arrangement than Fiskar and powerful. Hard pruned a complete overgrown Apple Tree using cutter and attached saw. Only problem is the Wing nut attaching the saw. Has a Wing Nut to clamp the blade. This is too small to tighten by hand. I used Pliers but Wing nut was cast and broke. I used the one from my Fiskar which was forged so able to tighten ok with Pliers. Because the thread is small frequent tightening is neccessary. Wants a bigger thread and a nut with a spring washer.

I bought this to prune an overgrown cherry tree. It was generally easy to use and cut through even quite thick branches well. Didn't use saw attachment so can't comment on that. When fully extended, the tree pruner is quite tricky to control, particularly just after the cut is made. Luckily, the other bushes in our garden helped to cushion the fall! Just wanted to make people aware of this. Otherwise, great - did the job well.

This pruner is an excellent product. The only downside is the weight. When pruning tall trees I found it a bit difficult to stop it wafting about. If it was lightweight, however, it probably wouldn't be able to do its job properly. I would still recommend this pruner if only for the quality.
Bought this to trim some branches on a very big tree that was affecting some telephone wires. I have used both the bypass pruning loppers and the saw blade with great success. The loppers are easy to hook over the branches before using the efficient pulley operated rope with spring return action to cut with an upward action. The saw blade appears flimsy, but it is very sharp, and easily coped with the large diameter branches providing you took it gently and smoothly. It exceeded my expectations and I would recommend this product.
Have only given it an initial test but the pruner seems very sharp and able to cope with all reasonably sized branches. Impressed with the simple way the pole can be extended by merely loosening a catch. A vast improvement on my old lopper which frequently jammed. Have yet to try the saw attachment but I am aware that some people have experienced issues with this. In my case I do not expect to use it much so am not worried.
I have not, as yet, had an opportunity to try both elements of these pruners out, but on using the pruner side of it I found it really good and the reach is pretty descent as well. The cord pulls very easily and the pruner is sharp and cuts through reasonable size branches with ease. The extention pole locks when on full reach so just doesn't come straight out of the outer pole, which I liked. The saw element is yet to be tried with some gusto but first thoughts are it may be a pain, although the saw is really sharp it seems just a bit flimsy and could be awkward when sawing through branches, especially when on full reach. I'll have to reserve judgment until tried properly, but sofar so good. Ease of use given 3 Stars due to not giving the saw much of a go yet.
My (mostly plastic) Fiskars tree pruner lasted a couple of years then broke. This Spear & Jackson one is made of steel and is altogether more robust. The super sharp pruner and saw blades make light work of 3 - 8 cm branches. This tool is also less than a third of the price of the Fiskars equivalent. It’s a bargain.
The (one-page) manual says to tighten the bolts before using. One of the bolts was bent and I didn't notice until it snapped while tightening the nut! This is the general theme of the product -- for this price I would have expected better quality.Still, the actual pruning bit is very sharp and cuts thick branches like butter, in places that would be difficult to reach. The saw is not very rigid and this makes it hard to cut anything as it bends and flexes all the time. Once, it got stuck in a branch two meters above me and it wouldn't come off or move at all. I had to get the ladder to get it unstuck...
This handy tool quickly helped my clear up a jungle of high vine covered dead branches overhanging my garden from an adjacent wooded area.As mentioned by others, I primarily used the clipping tool not the saw. I reiterate the previously stated recommendation to remove both the saw blade and the wing bolt that holds it until your work area is cleared of smaller debris with the clipping tool or you have great risk of loosing the bold as it easily comes loose in tangled debris. If the package contained a spare wing bolt for holding the saw blade I would have given full marks. In spite of this, I'm very happy to have it and will use again to trim my other trees. I believe it will be useful for many years.
