Be at the top of your Sirrus X game with the Future Shock suspension, carbon fork and 1x11 Shimano Deore drivetrain. At almost a whole kilo (0.8kg) lighter than the X 3.0, the X 4.0 Sirrus is peak hybrid. It's all business with its comfortable, more upright riding position and mudguard/rack mounting points, but it's also all party with its carbon fork and suspension system with 38c tyres. The Future Shock is a revolution in smoothness, delivering 20mm of travel without degrading speed, handling, or comfort. In fact, it does quite the opposite. Through a focus on axial compliance, it breaks the mold of traditional bike design. But this isn't a suspension fork like you see on mountain bikes. The suspension is above the headtube so when the front wheel encounters rough terrain, the bike moves up towards your hands and preserves your forward momentum without slowing you down. Another important fact is that, because the Future Shock is positioned under the stem, the bike's wheels are held together rigidly by the frame. In other words, because the wheelbase isn't changing throughout the suspension's travel, like with traditional systems, you get the added benefit of extremely predictable handling. Saying all that, the Future Shock is designed for rough on-road riding and not off-road trails. You won't be taking the X 4.0 down your local bike park, but you can take it on the city commuter through to some excellent gravel adventures. The X 4.0 isn't all about the Future Shock though, you really do get a reliable hybrid that will be your workhorse all year round. From hydraulic disc brakes that'll perform in the worst of the UK weather through to the low-maintenance 1x11 Shimano Deore drivetrain, the drivetrain here isn't ultra fancy but it is exactly what a city adventure bike needs to be. Throw a rack and some lights on it and you've got your commuter. Pop bikepacking bags on it and you're camping out under the stars tonight in the hills.
