Having used these pencils since I was in middle school art class, I had to snatch up the complete set of pencils. The price is great, and they last a long time. I have no issues with wood barrel casings, lead consistency, or breakage. I've dropped these pencils on my hardwood floors a million times and the lead has not broke while sharpening. Staedtler pencils are highly reliable and are of the best quality.

About ten years ago, our family took a trip to Europe. I was first introduced to Staedtler drawing pencils in an art store in Paris, France. I was about to purchase another brand of pencil for myself and grandsons, when one of the salesmen came and offered his assistance and highly recommended Staedtler as the best drawing pencil on the market. He was right!!!Love the quality of the pencils and how nicely they sharpen without the leads breaking, the wood splitting, and how they keep their points. Also found out that one doesn't need to press hard to achieve the desired effect.

I've been buying staedtler pencils for the past 6 years. They have a good range of hardness and softness in all the pencils. They are a little pricey but they are worth it as they last a long time. Whenever I sharpen them the graphite inside doesn't break, even if I drop it. I've used them to the point where they are too short to use anymore. They are also soft / smooth to hold, which sounds weird but I've held drawing pencils that start to hurt after a while because of the way I hold them. I recently bought a pack for my brother who just got into drawing and he really likes them.

Staedtler Lumograph are my favorite drawing pencils that are readily available open stock in Blick stores. This set of 12 in a tin is a bargain compared to the price of the 12 pencils bought separately. However, the set is not available in stores, which is why I give it 4 stars. The price of shipping cancels out the savings.
Lovely pencils for sketching and drawing. I use the HB the most, but also 2B and 4B when I want a thicker layer of graphite. I prefer wood pencils over mechanical pencils. These sharpen nicely and the leads have never broken inside the pencil for me. There is no eraser on the top but that's OK; I use a separate eraser anyway. Will purchase again and again!#sweepstakes
Nothing but good to say about this little company.. Sometimes it's good to search around as it's not always the big sellers that have the best deals. I found the Staedtler Mars Lumograph Drawing Pencils 24 Tin here with an even better price than Amazon or any of the other big sellers. Customer service is top notch and very personal, not something you see much of these days. I will definitely use these guys again and have no hesitation whatsoever on recommending Crafty Arts to anyone and everyone.
I use these pencils for portraits that I sell online. They have almost no "debris" in the graphite that will catch on the paper. This makes for a very smooth drawing experience with easy transitions between light and dark areas. They arrived in good condition. I'm currently using my second pencil out of 12 and I haven't noticed any problems. The one thing I would change about them: The fact that they arrive "pre-sharpened" sounds nice, but their sharpened angle is different than the angle of my sharpener. This makes sharpening them the first few times a bit difficult.
In my constant search for a jet black drawing instrument that doesn't leave me totally covered in a drift of charcoal dust, I tried this pencil...VERY smooth! Nice fat graphite core (seems about 2x thicker than your typical pencil's graphite). I've been carrying one of these pencils for note-taking just because I enjoy writing with it so darn much.One thing: the color IS NOT JET BLACK. It's a nice rich, dark gray. The ONLY truly jet black pencil I've found is the Staedtler Lumograph 9B.So, while enjoyable for what it is, this pencil doesn't live up to its name. I guess Prismacolor Nice Smooth Dark Gray (Not Black) was shot down by the Prismacolor marketing department...?
My favorite drawing pencils. Have bought various hodgepodge mix of other brands but I kept finding myself reaching again and again for the Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils. So I finally bought the complete set for a drawing class. Awesome. Consistent gradations and very even application. Love the bonus 4 pencils of Mars Lumograph Black with luscious darks you don't get with regular graphite pencils. Highly recommended. Good value and good range set for various applications. Comes in a convenient tin for storage.
I got the Lumograph Drawing Pencils, Set of 12, this is my first time ever using this brand of drawing pencil and I love them, #sweepstakes. I just finished a portrait of my son using them and the variety of soft/hard graphite was perfect.
