This is a very well made item, put together from quality materials. Being made from steel it is more rugged than most aluminium pots, and a little heavier. For me, the extra weight is negligible, but the extra durability does matter as the set will be used when I am hiking and cycling. I am not an ultra-lighter. The pot has a sturdy, stable handle that also locks the pot lid on when it is not being used. A vented stop with folding tab is great too. I like the markings on the pot. The cups also have a 1 cup mark too. Unlike many that seem to have bought this set, I will be using the cups. They are great quality, have good insulating properties so you warm your hands when drinking and don't burn your lips! This set has been around for a few years. I can see why. The reputation of this little cook set precedes this review! Good and sturdy right out of the box, but highly adaptable if you want to customise it for your own requirements. A little heavy for you ultra-light backpackers, but compact enough for bicycle touring. You either love or hate the plastic mugs that are included; IMO, they're too bulky but others use them as part of their regular set-up and swear by them. On the whole a good starting point for making up your own cook-set as it's cheap.

What I like about this Stanley 24 oz. Cook Set: 1. Two nesting cups, made of sturdy, thick plastic. 10 oz. each to the top of the cup. They are 8 oz. to the line inside the cup, though it's not marked as such. I had to measure to find that out. No biggie. 2. The cooking pot is made of a seemingly sturdy gauge of stainless steel. I saw a review on YouTube of a user whose Stanley cook pot was five years old, and it help up under rigorous conditions, according to the reviewer. 3. This pot comes with a vented lid. The pot itself has a handle that folds down and locks into place. When you're done using the pot, the handle folds over the top of the pot to lock the lid in place once the cups are nested inside. 4. There are measuring markings on the outside of the cooking pot, in both ml and oz (milliliters and ounces). The markings are actually stamped into the metal and not printed, which means they will never wear off. Since they are stamped into the pot, that means you can also see the markings inside the pot. One caveat: Since the markings are right-reading on the outside of the pot, that means they are backwards when you look at them inside the pot. Again, no biggie once I identified which markings I would use the most. 5. I'm using this inside my home on a gas stove (i.e. open flame). The stainless steel cook pot seemed to conduct heat well. I boiled 16 oz. of water in about seven minutes with the lid on the pot. 6. I found the cook set on eBay for under $20 (including shipping). It's an excellent value for the price!
This has become my most used cook set. I generally use it to boil water for hot beverages and use my GSI cup, which nests nicely on the bottom of the Stanley pot to make my meal, but I've cooked in the Stanley pot many times, too. When I'm out solo, I only bring one of the awesome green cups with me and that leaves room in the pot for even more items. Bic lighter, coffee, Cocoa, tea, a couple snacks, oatmeal, rice,,, whatever. The set is very well made and rugged, but not overly heavy. The lid has vents to let out steam, preventing boil overs and they work great for draining pasta. IMHO you can't go wrong with this set.I did have an issue with the bracket that holds the lift tab on the lid coming loose after a lot of use, actually the only issue I've had in 40 years of using Stanley products, but it was taken care of under Stanley's iron clad warranty and a new lid was sent to me very quickly. Unlike many other businesses today, Stanley customer service agents are wonderful to deal with. Great products, great warranty, and great customer service. You can't go wrong buying fron Stanley.Bob
This is my favorite solo Excursion pot. I use this to brew my coffee, cook my meals and boil water. Does it all. My only gripe is that plastic tab on the lid, I've melted two. No big deal I just replace with some wire.If you check out Bill Outdoors on YouTube I present a Mod that converts this into a French press and takes almost no space in your pack.
I use this pot for personal meals on the trail, and I bring it on group trips as an extra for boiling water. It is very heavy duty. I was recently backpacking in northern Maine, and I realized one day that a very important item had fallen out of my pocket on the trail. After asking many hikers if they could help me out I was distraught. The gears in my head started turning, and I realized my Stanley pot was there to save the day. The ventilation holes on the lid are extremely convenient. After asking around for a "spoon/bowl" I realized the pot would be perfect. Everyone was extremely impressed at how well it worked. I ended up using it like this quite a lot over my next few trips.
Love this cook set! We used it primarily for heating water for fresh coffee while camping--it worked well. The only thing we didn't love is that the green tab on the lid is plastic. (Sorry for not providing a picture--we had no devices to take one!) So, when cooking over a fire, the plastic tab melted pretty quickly--a metal tab on the lid would make for a much better design. Unfortunately, the silver can got all sooty (our fault, not the set's fault), so we tossed our first one and bought this to replace it for next year! But, we are are really looking forward to using it for our camp coffee next year!
As you probably know, any good team will divide and conquer the tasks and responsibilities of an adventure. One of my roles as Gear Dad has been managing all aspects of our meals from menu creation, to necessary equipment, to preparing it, to cooking and serving. I enjoy this role as I like the challenge of preparing the tastiest meals in the most remote locations that the Keweenaw Peninsula has to offer. One thing I am always trying to do is downsize my cooking kit, both in packing space consumed and weight. The Adventure Series by Stanley has a nesting Two Cup Cook-set that helps me condense from three items packed individually, to a four piece nesting set, that packs as one item at a lower weight (0.90 lbs). The kit includes a 18/8 stainless steel, 24oz /.7L BPA ...Ā MoreAs you probably know, any good team will divide and conquer the tasks and responsibilities of an adventure. The Adventure Series by Stanley has a nesting Two Cup Cook-set that helps me condense from three items packed individually, to a four piece nesting set, that packs as one item at a lower weight (0.90 lbs). The kit includes a 18/8 stainless steel, 24oz /.7L BPA cooking pot with a locking handle. The lid is vented with a composite tab that stays cooler to the touch. I do still recommend using a protective mitt or pad to handle the lid while cooking or serving. The cups in this set are BPA free and able to hold 10 oz each. All pieces in the set are dishwasher safe. The photo is a test run of the cooking pot on our MSR Whisperlite stove. The Whisperlite is our main cooking stove for lightweight adventures and the first thing I noticed is that the diameter of the cooking pot is just a bit too small to fit on the cooking surface of the burner. The pot bottom is approximately 3.25 inches across. I was able to safely balance it within the burner's arms though for the testing. The pot lid is vented to help retain heat while balancing pressure of the heated meal. I am very happy with the quality and design of the lid; there is no need to partly tip the lid for simmering. As seen in the above photo, a rolling boil is easy to obtain and happened much faster than I expected. Heat transfer through the stainless to the liquid is very efficient. A word of warning-everything gets extremely hot so be sure to pack some type of hot pad or mitt as the handle of the pot, as well.
I love Stanley. If it isn't Hammertone Green, then it had better be stainless steel, though.I've purchased three or four of these (because I love 'em and always want one available) over the years and they are just workhorses.Handy size for boiling water for coffee or to heat up a dehydrated meal.Stainless Steel so I don't have to baby them.I tend to pull the cups out and put them on the shelf because I have other cup options I prefer, but that just makes more room inside for other stuff (food, condiments, etc...)You won't regret adding this to your kit!
