It is required to install the application and connecting to the wifi of the antenna to display this number in super tiny font at the top of the connected/status page. Go ahead with that number even though it looks like your buying another antenna from Starlink, it gives that as an option later after you activate your account. That's it everything else is automatic from the satellite network. I did not aim mine besides pointing it outward and sort of vertical (this flow is from your cellphone data plan the antenna does not provide internet yet and this also means your phone is offline.) I did the activation from a PC connected to fiber. Its downright spooky how easily it connected to the Starlink satellites.Oh you don't get ethernet only WIFI (the RJ-45 is to POE the antenna). I bought the separate Mesh router as I want to connect it to my home WIFI router as an internet connection My guess is most people don't even use hard wired connections in their home, there are ways around this as well (you could wifi a computer an then "share" the internet connection to an adapter connected to that computer. If you do want the hard ethernet cable with no WIFI hop inbetween its $300 for the Mesh router (I just ordered it and might review on that page.)The kit does not include a mount, there are options on the Starlink site around $35 and from what I see unless its some crazy obscure metal thing any mount should work as long as its not moving in the wind.

Without one the signal was still around 20-50 mbps in the basement. starlink sells additional routers for $150, but i decided to put in a TP link wifi mesh system though for slightly cheaper and that works great.

Seems Starlink is taking on more customers than their system can handle, and standard users ($120/month) users are paying the price for it in inconsisistent connections.I'm still trying to give it a chance, but I'm leaning towards returning the equipment to Best Buy; I'm unsure if I can get my $120 service fee back from Starlink. It will have made this a pricey test of their system if we cannot recover it.

Installed this up at our cabin because the local ISP offers really slow internet (5-25mbps, and unguaranteed up to 50mbps for more money) which won't work for our needs (see: work). Home internet options from the carriers (T-Mobile and Verizon) aren't available in that area, so Starlink was the only viable option. The speed range has been really strong so far. We get anywhere from 90up/10down to almost 400down/40up (with a nearly fully unobstructed view). The only negatives is that the startup cost is more than a traditional ISP, and you have to do your own installation. Depending on where you are the installation may or may not be challenging. Our is up about 40 feet on our roofline. Depending on where you are the installation may or may not be challenging. Our is up about 40 feet on our roofline. Then we had to go back up because Starlink says to have it facing North, but they define north differently than a compass does. So when you're done doing the installation, power up the system, you'll likely be told that you're misaligned and have to reposition the system. You've got to pay for the Starlink system. Then in our case, we have this setup with an Eero mesh network to have full coverage around the house/property, so that added even more money to the total cost (which to be fair, the mesh network would have been a cost regardless of the provider).Plus...does the company's owner need more money?Outside of all that though, we're more than satisfied with the performance thus far about 2 months into using the network...especially compared to the alternatives.
Here’s the negatives: good luck trying to figure out what space you need from the box/package, speeds were not nearly as expected, once connected - I don’t think certain pieces will come apart again, and the hub runs hot.Setup: what goes inside vs outside - not clear. Seems if you want the hub out, you’d need more sealed rj45 connector cables - but then open ports, etc. or maybe that’s an accessory.Setup: it has a ground stand - seemed great since renting and cannot mount otherwise easily. Well, despite the picture and the angle of openness along the axis of the panel plane - seems you need 360 around it on that openness!!! Show that!Setup: I was told in store there was 30 free trial and service, so setup an account and gave the info - was charged instantly for ... MoreHere’s the negatives: good luck trying to figure out what space you need from the box/package, speeds were not nearly as expected, once connected - I don’t think certain pieces will come apart again, and the hub runs hot.Setup: what goes inside vs outside - not clear. Show that!Setup: I was told in store there was 30 free trial and service, so setup an account and gave the info - was charged instantly for the service. Unsure how else I could have set this up. Maybe it’s a free return/refund?Speeds: I had a spot that was open like the picture showed - that didn’t work, the dish will go whichever direction you’re told to align it, which definitely violated the open space specs pictured, but it worked ok-ish.Connected-Setup: once you plug the network cable in to the dish and the hub: that’s it. They’re linked. The sealed plug has two rings to seal into the deep holes - puts the clip way into the device and if you’ve ever worked with close but recessed ports - this seems worse. I have no idea how you’d unclip that - to replace, add another, or test a setup and then move items to permanently mount. So ensure there’s room to get the hub (or dish) through any opening on where you’d like that cable run.Speeds: I moved dish to an almost perfectly open spot - speeds still weren’t super. However, it’s not dropping out occasionally and things seem to work ok. No none has worked from home, and a cellular over WiFi three way call wasn’t great at times but did work. Streaming tv while multi kids game or video meet has been working fine.
I live in a Rural area. My area has one internet provider and the max internet speed you can get is 30Mbps. It was decently reliable but it wasn't enough to have work video meetings (I work a hybrid schedule). So after a few days in a row where video calls were dropped due to my internet I decided to buy this Starlink set-up. Set up was easy (I also purchased the pivot mount for my roof) and the cable was long enough to run from the roof all the way into my house to plug into the modem.I am about a month in and the speeds have been great. The speed certainly fluctuates more than you would see in a traditional internet provider but I am seeing an average of 180Mdps to 330Mbps. I am able to play online games with no lagging issues, I can have visitors over and everyone can connect to the internet without seeing massive dips in internet speed and of course, most importantly, I am able to work from home and take video calls reliably from my home.If you live in a more populated area then I dont really think Starlink is worth it. Usually metro areas can get you great fiber options that are faster and cheaper per month than Starlink. However, for those of us who live in Rural areas; this thing is a gamechanger!
I live where only slow dsl (7mbps) is available. This was an instant upgrade. I'm getting speeds from 100 up to 240 mbps with an all around average od 130 mbps. Purchasing saved me on the shipping cost and wait time when ordering direct from starlink. Setup was pretty easy hardest part was mounting to the house and running the line through the attic. Once that was complete evrything else was a breeze all in app setup from starlink maybe took 10 min to fire up service and connect my devices to the router. I have had no issues with the service so far. My son loves the service for gaming on xbox with no issues with no lag averaging 21ms latency. Streaming on multiple devices at the same time with no buffering. All security cameras are also hooked up to router and the recording quality is much better than before. I will say that you need to create a 2.4ghz network for the security cameras and smart locks. The starlink router makes it easy to split and create 2.4ghz and 5ghz network. My home is 2000 square foot and the router has plenty of power to cover every corner with full bars and even reaches exterior cameras. Starlink is definitely a great option in places that don't have fiber internet available. It blows dsl and mobile service internet out of the water. Definitely happy with purchasing this product from Bestbuy!
Picked up my Gen 3 Starlink kit and started setting it up today.Overall, it's just "plug things in and place the dish with no obstructions".It wants you to use your cell phone and download the app, which I did. I followed all directions, have "Excellent" signal strength but...you have to jump through all kinds of hoops to get your specific Starlink registered and service working. After almost 5 hours of trying to contact their support - which is 100% A.I. - I have gotten absolutely nowhere. There is no customer service AT ALL!!! You have to read through all kinds of FAQ's and NONE OF THEM are accurate. They showed me screen shots of what the app should look like and mine looks nothing like the pictures, nor does it have the tabs I'm supposed to press to gather this model's information...IT'S NOT EVEN THERE!!!I have left 5 different messages for their "alleged" support team, have received, "We will reach out to you via email or phone call as soon as possible", and after 5 hours have heard from no one.So, I have a $300 piece of non-working garbage. I cannot even create an account because the S/N number (or whatever number they require) is NON-EXISTENT!!! I have looked all over the dish and the router, have typed in all of those numbers on my specific model and the Starlink website will not recognize any one of them.Very disappointed and, despite everyone loving theirs, I'm starting to think these positive reviews are nothing more than A.I. writings by bots.If Starlink fails to reach me by tomorrow this thing is going back to BestBuy.
The system works great! And, the folks at my local Best Buy store were very helpful. The first unit however was damaged. It was in an unopen, undamaged box so it came as a surprise when I opened it that the seam along the edge was separated in multiple locations. Fortunately, there was no problem exchanging it for new uncompromised unit. Note that this system is Starlink Gen 3 and there has been some confusion in the community as to which is Gen 1, 2 and 3. Suffice it to say that this is the latest version with the kickstand and two auxiliary Ethernet ports on the modem/wifi router. That's in addition to the POE ethernet that runs between the antenna array and the modem/router. My only complaint is that when I asked for the add on 150 foot cable they sold me the Gen 2 version which is incompatible. The cable interface at the antenna array end is no longer the same as it was. So I will need to return the cable. In Best Buy's defense the only place to purchase the 150 foot Gen 3 cable is on Starlink's website and the person that helped just likely didn't even know. That's the reason for the 4 star rating. It likely deserves to be 4.5 to 4.7.
