Expensive for what it does. This is what it doesn't:: : No AC power supply pass through. There is a USB-C port which on other devices allows you to plug in the computer power supply and charge saving a port for other use on the computer. Not on this unit.: : No uninterrupted power to out ports. When the computer wakes up you have to unplug and plug back in the hub for powered units to power up (in this case a barcode scanner). Not recommended for the price.

First, make sure you know what this is... It is NOT a hub that you plug into a USB 3.0 port and gives you USB-C connectivity. I hope that helps make sense. In other words, if you do not have a USB-C port on your computer, this isn't going to be useful for you. If you have a USB-C port and need more old-style USB 3.0 ports, then this is PERFECT for what you need because it will let you STILL KEEP your USB-C port (passthrough design) AND ADD three (3) USB 3.0 ports inline. I would also point out that StarTech does a great job of including a simple way to get the spec and instructions by scanning the QR code on the box (and product) which takes you to a VERY GOOD website/page that tells you all about this product. THIS ALONE makes StarTech one of the best options out there for computer accessories. They have REALLY done a good job of this. Lots of companies send you to a broken website with little or no information on the product. StarTech sends you to the correct page, with good solid information on the product you scanned. Well done!

Besides the absurd and unnecessary LED, the device serves it's purpose well. It's too bad I had to put a piece of electrical tape on top which ruins the otherwise good look of the product.

I haven’t had much luck with hubs. You buy one, it sometimes works, doesn’t have that great of connectivity, or they just don’t show up on your computer. I’m not a techie when it comes to peripherals, but really the only one that has worked well for me with the same connectivity as hooking it directly into your computer is one that came with the X-Box. Go figure. This one is USB-C hub with a USB-C import port. It says it can connect virtually any USB peripheral wherever I go. Not always though. I had a few issues with periphrial hardrives. I have a lot. I use one for Time Machine and others for my stock photography and another to hold my client files. I had an issue with the bigger harries. The good thing about this is if you have UPDATED USB 3.0 devices, but only a USB 2.0 port on your computer, you can “convert” through this. I don’t have that issue, but I’m sure I’ll run into it in the future. Overall, it worked, but had some issues when all ports were connected.

I was really pleased to receive this StarTech multi-port hub. We have a Huawei Matebook which only has a single, type C USB port for charging and attaching other devices (Huawei Signature Edition 2 in 1 PC, 128GB/Intel Core m3, Space Gray (MateBook) ), so we really needed to purchase a dock/hub to allow us to connect other USB devices to make the Huawei work for us. The only hub they offer is very expensive, and also includes ports we will never personally use (VGA, ethernet), and only comes with 2 standard USB ports (Huawei MateDock USB-C Multiport Adapter (Black) ). So, hooray for StarTech and this great 4 port hub. We can attach an external DVD drive and an external hard drive for our back ups, thumb drives, and anything else we might need. The only thing this port cannot do is to charge our Matebook through the single type C USB connection on this port (I am sure that is something Huawei built-in to sell more of their expensive docks). However, the price of this dock/hub is great. Thank you, StarTech, for this great, affordable solution, which I know is needed by many owners of the newer, slim notebooks. So far, every type A USB device we have plugged into this hub has performed perfectly, and I also tested the type C USB port by using an adapter cord and plugging in my phone. The dock charged my phone plus gave me access to my phone as a device. 5 stars.

I'm using this to connect my computer to external hardrives. So far it is working exactly as I'd hoped and the piece is solidly constructed. There is no setup for this item, it is just a plug and play device. I can't think of any piece that is comparable except for my old usb adapter, obviously it didn't let me use the higher register speed, it did seem like when I was talking to multiple hardrives it would choke, but this Startech Hub keeps everything at the same speed, no interruptions at all. I would definitely buy this item again if I needed another one.

One day not long ago, I had no devices with USB Type C ports. A couple of months later, I have at least three computers with USB Type C capability. Since these are the machines I travel with, I’ve had to adjust what goes into my kit. From my perspective, I am fortunate that each of my three new computers has a USB 3.0 A port as well. The USB 3.0 port allows me to use my externally powered USB 3.0 hubs and larger hard drives. I am still learning the details of USB Type C. I know it provides more power, but only experimentation is going to tell me what works with it and what doesn’t. For use with webcams,2.5 inch external hard drives and the occasional dongle, this StarTech item is working fine. That it also has a Type C pass-through is a definite plus, even if I haven’t used it yet. It is, as StarTech products always are, well made. It is also covered by a2 year warranty. This hub gained an instant berth in my travel kit, along with a traditional USB 3.0 hub capable of being externally powered. As I said, so far it is working without difficulty. Jerry

Works Perfectly
10 September 2022

I use this hub continuously and during several years, it works perfectly for me. I can charge a mobile phone with the USB ports, maybe not super-fast but it charges nonetheless. It has a power supply but that´s only necessary if charging something, to just plug in standard mouse and keyboard peripherals it´s not necessary, so you can travel without it.I am very satisfied with all StarTech products including this one.

I bought this a while ago and it's great up until you have to charge your device so if you're a businessman I would go for something better unless u wanna charge your device very often. Personally, I haven't had any issues besides the fact I can't charge it and I have to unplug the USB hub in order to charge my device.
