This product harkens back to the glory days of dial up internet and bulletin boards. I ran a local bulletin board for a decade or more and it was a vibrant community that ran exclusively on dial modem power. This is a great hardware modem. No driver is needed for Mac but there is a driver for Windows 8/10.Under Mac, there are no many software applications that allowing faxing via a hardware based modem but CoMA X is one still around and it worked well with this modem and allowed Fax 1 and Fax 2 capability. It allowed to me fax and also dial in to dial up services. I also made use of the Brother printer fax utilities to use this modem as well.Under Windows, I used the Brother utility and all seemed to work just fine. This is a no mess, no fuss hardware modem ... MoreThis product harkens back to the glory days of dial up internet and bulletin boards. Thanks StarTech. So if you need a hardware modem, purchasing this modem from StarTech still certainly not break the bank and it is full featured. I believe it uses the Coxiant chip set which has been around for awhile and is reliable. It will do speeds up to 56K and support ?modem download protocol so you are covered if you are still dialing into a dial up service. You can't beat the 2 year warranty from StarTech.Note: I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.

I am not using it as a fax, I am not using it for dial-up internet, I am using it for an even older purpose, dial-up serial connection for terminal access to a server. It works!

great product great quality
I have only used it about three times. It has meet my expectations and I find it quit valuable.
I needed this to test Fax lines with my laptop without swapping out fax machines. Done the trick. Works as expected.
It loaded and worked well...just had to use the Win 8 64-bit driver as it doesn't have a Win 10 driver. Shows up as a printer named "Fax".
Most modems are software based modems. A software modem uses more cpu when it's sending and receiving data. If I had a dedicated computer to being a fax computer, it wouldn't really matter. I'm usually using a server as a fax machine and the server also does lots of other things. I want the modem to use as few of the server's resources as possible! For a long time, I have been buying a Startech 2-port hardware USB modem. (It had two phone line ports.) I have many offices where we've used the Startech 2-port model for years. I never needed two ports, but the 2-port model was one of the cheaper and more reliable hardware modems. Startech stopped making the 2-port model and came out with this single port model. This 1-port model has the same chipset as the old modem, so I'm secure this will have the same reliability and longevity. This installed on Server 2012 R2 without an issue. We don't get many faxes, but we've been sending and receiving faxes using this. I've had zero fax failures so far. It works great, and it's from a brand I trust. I suggest this!
This USB fax modem works very well with the Windows 10 fax application. It automatically detected with no problems. I tested it several times and the only drawback is that it is on the slow side taking 1- 1 1/2 min to transmit one page.
Worked perfectly first time. I’m using it with a Windows XP emulator running under Windows 10 and the emulator’s Hyperterminal recognized it and put it to work right away.
