I must have reviewed a dozen TV and monitor mounts by now! This one is a good option for a few reasons. The arm is mostly assembled. Just screw it in to your VESA compatible holes on your monitor (many do not have these, so make sure yours do), after screwing the mount into the wall. It comes with wall anchors but don't get the wrong idea: it's a pretty heavy arm, and adding in a heavy monitor... I suggest finding something solid to put it in. The zip tie is included to run the cables from the monitor in a tidy manner, and the arm comes with the bubble level to make sure you mounted it straight (this is a very common feature). Installation took about three minutes. In use, this is a hefty, solid feeling arm, that moves in every direction and holds its position. These are also great for a kitchen because the flexible positioning means you can watch it over dinner, while you cook, while you wash dishes, but mount the screen out of the way of splatters or water very easily. There are a couple of cheaper options, but this is a nice mount for the asking price and I wouldn't go too much cheaper. It feels like a much nicer quality than its price point.

In this price range you won't find much better. This works for a monitor or a tv and it has a side/side range of motion meaning you can move it left or right and then move the "head" of it left or right again. Very versatile little mount. It's sturdy but still more lightweight but it holds a flat screen tv really well. I used this for the Grandkids play room and it suits my purpose quite well and was very easy to install.. the directions were clear but we didn't even need them. 4 stars!

It used to be that Ergatron was about the only monitor arm mount worth buying. Then 3M came out with some that weren't as good but pretty good. Now it seems like we have a lot of choices with there even being Home Essentials Direct Basics monitor arms. I wanted to try the Startech one to see how it compared to the Ergatron LX wall mount arm. It's pretty good, but I still prefer the Ergatron. For the pros, this comes mostly assembled and is therefore easier to install than the Ergatron. Also it's almost $50 less than the Ergatron (but I've seen the Ergatron cheaper). I'd say it's just as good as the Ergatron in use. It swings around easily and holds a monitor up sturdily. My 21 inch computer monitor’s base is quite large and takes up over half of my desktop so I wanted a mount to free up some room. I am happy with this mount and my husband said the installation was pretty straightforward. I don’t move my monitor around so the range of motion is something I can’t comment on. There is a hook for the cord that comes in handy. I like that I can have my monitor at eye level and it sets close enough to the wall that it doesn’t look out of place. An added bonus to mounting the monitor is that it’s out of my 2 year old granddaughter’s reach.

The base has an embedded level which is important for setup--this mount does not have any rotation so you can't just rotate the monitor after the fact if you don't get the base level. The real problem with this mount is with the movement. If you frequently move it around (flush with the wall, back out over your desk, to the side, etc.) the bolts at each hinge start to come loose, and it will develop a ton of play. If you want to erase the play in the hinge, you have to have the bolt so tight that it makes it extremely difficult to move, and then eventually you'll have to tighten up the bolts again. Seems one of the few at this price point, important if you had to mount a bunch of monitors. Cautionary note: only two wood screws install the mounting plate to the wall. These are pretty long, but if the monitor is being to see constant play and adjujstment, it would have been better to mount with washers, perhaps more than two screws, or possiblely additional bracing. Wall mounts are a great solution for those with space constraints. We have a small computer desk. With a 27" monitor on it, there isn't much room for much else. Since installing this StarTech mount, we've been able to reclaim the desktop (for more clutter!) I don't have any major complaints. All the parts feel very sturdy and well made. You will need a drill for the 2 holes needed in the wall. Mounting into studs is best, or wood if possible. The mount will face stresses, so do not mount on just drywall. Over time, the hole will enlarge and loosen from all the movement and downward stress. Also be sure to measure how high you want the mount, because the arm does not adjust in height. Have the center of the screen at a comfortable eye level, with your head at a relaxed forward looking position. I do wish that the bubble level was permanently affixed to the level. It goes into a pocket on the back of the bracket, but doesn't stay. It fell out while I was mounting.
Yes, this product does what it claims and it is durable and made of sturdy, heavy materials. But it is a lot smaller than I had expected. The arm is only about 4-6 inches long, and I'm at a loss for how it would be useful/necessary in any situation. I got it for a simple install of a small touchscreen in my bathroom, but now that it's installed I find the direction of swing awkward. If you want the screen centered in a specific location on the wall, then it will be un-centered when it swings out. Likewise, if you want it centered when it swings out, it will be un-centered when on the wall. I am going to replace this with a mount that keeps my screen centered. OCD problems . . .
