After a failed experience with a cheaper product that claimed to do the same thing, this worked the first time. I used this to connect my second (1920x1080) monitor to my laptop via the Thunderbolt/USB port. The first time, the computer didn't even recognize that a second monitor had been connected. If you have the same problem as me, try this product.

Given that most laptops these days have lost the VGA port, this is a convenient alternative to get connected, especially when you're stuck working from home for a couple of months. It works fine at 1080P. Not much more to say about it. It just works.

I checked this out with my Dell XPS 13 and it did the job. My Dell 23" Ultrasharp looked as good as it can using SVGA. I mention this because if your monitor has multiple interfaces, as mine does, the SVGA is not going to look as sharp as some of the other more modern interfaces. This particular Dell monitor is a few years old and has both SVGA and DVI-D interfaces on it. The DVI-D is visibly cleaner than the SVGA, but the SVGA is still very good and usable. This is not the fault of this interface dongle. It is expected due to the fundamental limitations of one interface type vs. the other. In any case, this SVGA is in my kit for those times when I'm in a customer meeting room that has legacy equipment in it. I haven’t had any issues with this adapter, it fits well with the projection systems I have used it with. Though I have also transitioned to not using powerpoint when I teach, instead using blackboards/whiteboards or going over things verbally and with hands-on exercises or worksheets. So I don’t really use the adapter much anymore.
Perfect. Used it to connect a cheap VGA monitor to my new 2017 21.5 inch iMac with a thunderbolt 3 port. I just plugged it in and it worked. No drivers or software tweaks necessary.
Perfect. Works like a charm with my HP Elite x2 1012. All USB-C dongles like this should have power pass-through. Wish that there was a combined VGA-HDMI version, but in the mean time, will use both this one and the HDMI version separately.
The USB3 connection to my MBPPro 15.4late 18 edition was not smooth and making a good connection requires seating and reseting the connection. I use this adaptor to allow my desktop monitor connection in my office and each time I 'go on the road' connecting it back up takes effort. Today when connecting it back up, I got no power to the laptop at all and didn't notice it till the batter was all the way down (I have the power connection into the USB3 not he adaptor to free up ports, as designed....).
