Check your cpu type. This is Thunderbolt and that only works with Intel cpu's. It will not work with AMD. I did try it on my Galaxy Tab S7 and with an hdmi monitor it goes into DEX mode and becomes a desktop, so kind of cool and I will keep it, but total fail on what I got it for.

Does not output 4K HD. If you have a TV or monitor from the past few years, you will not get the best quality out of your iPad Pro, Mac, or HDR-enabled PC with this adapter. I returned it and unfortunately had to get Apple’s adapter at over $65.

I now have three monitors: the built-in one, another plugged into the laptop's HDMI, and the third one plugged into the unused USB-C port using this adapter. What a great way to add more screen real estate! It's recognized by both on-board GPU and the dedicated card (the laptop has both - Dell Inspiron-5770). Lovely! Make sure your HDMI cables are long enough. I had two 4-ft ones, and for the third monitor it wasn't enough (the laptop sits to my left, so the USB-C port was too far from the right-hand monitor), so I swapped it with a 6-ft one, no sweat...

I purchase this because I was looking for the ability to play 4K 60FPS/hz HDR video on my MacBook Pro 2018 without using the internal display. Unfortunately I have not been able to achieve that yet. I have macOS Catalina 10.15.2, a BenQ EW3270U 3840x2160 HDR capable monitor and a Monoprice 18Gbps capable cable. The monitor and cable have successfully paired with a Roku Ultra and other 4K HDR streaming devices and passed all tests with out issue demonstrating their HDR capability. The adapter otherwise works well with no other video or use issues, however the main issue was to achieve HDR playback on my HDR monitor. As mentioned if I play video using the internal display of the MBP with nothing else connected to it then the HDR video will play. I have tried even 48Gbps/8k cables with no success, so I don’t believe this is a monitor cable issue. If I figure out the magic combination, I will update this post and raise to 5 stars at that point.
I took a dive in to trying the Razer Phone 1 (not the razer phone 2, got a razer phone 1 for cheap) and decided would try to make it work with one usb-c port. This beauty allows me to charge as well as hdmi game at the same time which is the best of both worlds. The plus is that the audio and the video is ported to my tv from the adapter as well. Have no complaints as this adapter is my go to for my razer phone while in house or indoors so can port to a bigger screen when available.
