We bought a PetSafe medium size dog door almost 7 years ago and the flap has been showing wear/tear recently from our 4 dogs (6 lbs, 20 lbs, 25 lbs and 40 lbs). In order to save a little $ and the planet and to keep the frame out of the landfill, we opted to purchase this replacement flap. Three days into the dogs using it and three of the screws (right side) have torn thru the flap. Husband thinks the newer screws weren't the correct size for the older flap, but he was able to fix it using washers. His suggestion is that the mfr include newer screws with the replacement flaps. Hope this fix holds for at least a couple of years to make the almost $50 purchase worth it.

Have had to purchase 3 over last 3 years. That's about how long 1 will last. Magnets at bottom definitely need to be stronger. Both sides of flap"bow". But what are ya gonna do? Start all over? So I just continue to purchase, over and over... Jezzzz

Doors are excellent! Very easy to install. We purchased the original about 4 years ago and I just replaced them. I have 3 dogs and a cat. The magnet lost it's "mojo" about 6 months in, but my dogs are in and out. It takes the cat a minute to get in and out, which is comical! It lost a star because of the price... Pretty expensive.. I have 2 replace both which is over $80. This day and age, it's pretty pricey. But well I guess it's better than a huge heating bill. I live in Colorado.

Duke, our crazy dog, hits that doggy door so fast and so hard I'm surprised the whole door doesn't come out with him. It doesn't. The door is fine, but about every 8 or 9 months, the flap comes unhinged. There's nothing wrong with the door, but our dog is deranged. He's a young, medium-sized dog of many types. The door is at the bottom of a set of six step, so going out is a more or less normal enterprise.Coming in, though, is something else because he has the whole yard in which to gather steam. He hits the door like a rocket heading for space. I'm so grateful for the easy available and replaceability of that flap. I don't know if the Duke is grateful. I keep asking him, but he never answers me.All of our friends use this same door. We used to have four dogs ... Yes, but the door itself? Never.
The door seems fine, so I think it's a good replacement. Just don't be fooled by the friendly online installation videos, which are for a different design of flap. If you have this design (with several screws at the top), and if you're replacing it in one of those tall panels that screw into a sliding door as I was, installation is a nightmare. The trouble is that the screws mount from the inside. Looks simple, right? When you unscrew them, a narrow plastic bar on the outside, which you didn't know could come off and into which the screws were actually seated, falls off. This plastic bar has no bevels for its holes and it has screw-sized empty slots around the holes to deceive you. So holding the bar against the frame on the outside with one hand, you can't find ... This plastic bar has no bevels for its holes and it has screw-sized empty slots around the holes to deceive you. So holding the bar against the frame on the outside with one hand, you can't find them by feel with the screw and screwdriver from the inside with the other hand while a thick rubber mat is hanging between the two.So it's a two person job. Someone has to crouch out there and hold the dinky little bar in place while you get the door seated in between and insert and tighten the screws. At this point, having discovered this nightmare in frigid weather, I have a jury-rigged installation with the rubber door on the wrong side until I can a neighbor over here to help. (Lost a screw in the floor-level gymnastics involved in this struggle and the kit doesn't include these, so don't do that. Seems a small thing for them to include a liitle packet of extra screws, but really helping customers with this installation doesn't seem to be Petsafe's business ethic.)
This replacement flap was supplied with NO hardware.Instructions said to use existing screws that were on the old flap. The holes (slots) in the new flap seem too big. The heads of the old screws went thru the holes of the new flap. So we had to find something to use as some sort of backing to keep the screwheads from going through the holes. The flap slips down just ever so slightly and makes a CURVE so that air can come through that space. Nothing is ever as good a fit as the original. I have to keep checking the flap throughout the day and completely close off the opening at night.I keep waiting...hoping the flap will find its seal. But doesn't look like it ever will. I don't know what else to do.
I ordered a replacement flap for our doggie door that fits into our patio door. I was concerned it might not fit or be impossible to put it on. Turns out neither of those were true!! The replacement flap arrived and installed in about 20 minutes!! It fits perfectly ( I needed a size medium) and the installation was a snap! Thanks Chewy for being so helpful after I had originally ordered the wrong product for the doggie door. You are so easy to work with-answered my questions right away-and made sure I had the correct product ordered-so fast and so easy!!My little Allie (chihuahua mix) and Sophie ( a Westhighland white terrier) both love the easy opening of the door and can be out on our deck in an instant when a marauding squirrel has the nerve to show up!! Lol!!
Needed to replace two year old flap in our door for our two black lab mix dogs. The original flap was torn/broken by the screw holes and was letting in too much cold air. This replacement fit perfectly. However, we were extremely disappointed that new screws were not included in the replacement flap. Adding new screws to the packaging would be truly beneficial for sales since they are unusual screws and difficult to find. The manufacturer website offers a replacement metal bar with screws but it is $11.00 plus shipping. Not very convenient to order from two websites when everything should be processed and provided in one package and available on any website. These are the exact original equipment replacement flaps. They were shipped quickly and received undamaged. Be aware that you will need to preserve all of the mounting hardware, as you only get the flaps. Although removing the flaps is fast and easy, putting the replacement flaps back in place is tricky.
I love in area that has mild/ cold winters and hot summers and its on a wall facing west so it gets all the afternoon sun. They have lasted three years with two dogs. I decided to replace them before summer hits and I'm not able to screw them in by myself. I'm alone and need to find someone to come over and help. Also, the plastic bar the flaps are screwed into are cracked in two places and I don't see where I can get those replacement parts. The actual flap is fine though.
