I would not advise looking through this scope unless you have the money to buy it. This is absolutely the most perfect compact spotter on the market. No tunneling or fish eye; this scope has an unreal field of view and light enough to pitch in the pack for a long days hunt in the mountains.

If you want a small spotting scope you won’t do better than this. It’s bright, The image is clear through the entire magnification range and the FOV is incredible. I also had some of the best customer service I have ever experienced from Cody and GoHunt. Buy with confidence

I don't know what to say. I've been buying from B&H for years and had purchased many Swarovski optics new. The past experiences were always a happy one. I guess there is a first time for everything. This is the 1st time I received a Swarovski with dirty optics. There were roughly a dozen or so tiny spots on an internal optical surface. In fact, upon opening of the box, I was suspecting something wasn't quite right (because I had opened many Swarovski boxes before). The internals of the box were dirty with scuff marks, white dust of some kind on the scope body, etc. that I immediately suspected it was an open box. I love the Swaro ATC 17-40x56mm scope for bird watching. It has several advantages compared to my large scope the Swaro ATX 25-60x85mm. First, the ATC zoom magnification starts at 17X. This means you get a very wide field-of-view making it much easier to get on a bird quickly. For instance, if you are watching loons or grebes and they are constantly diving, you have to get on target very quickly before the bird dives again. I can get on target faster with the ATC than my big scope with higher starting magnification and much narrower field of view. Second, I rarely use the highest power magnification in my big scope due to heat waves and the very slight decline in clarity, combined with the common problem of wind and image shake. Second, I rarely use the highest power magnification in my big scope due to heat waves and the very slight decline in clarity, combined with the common problem of wind and image shake. So 40X magnification from the ATC is adequate for most of my birding. Third, the ATC let's in plenty of light and the image quality is outstanding. The clarity and color and image vibrancy is as good or better compared to my larger ATX scope. Fourth, the scope is very light making it easy to carry on my shoulder with the Swaro Compact Carbon tripod. Also, since the tripod is so much heavier than the scope, there is very little image shake in mild wind. In summary, the ATC 17-40x56 is now my go-to scope that I use all the time. I love it. I still find it hard to believe that such a high performance scope can be so small.
This is my first and only spotter. I have always wanted a high quality spotter, but didn't want the bulk. Swarovski has delivered an amazing piece of gear and made it more convenient to bring on a hunt or to the range. The best part was working with Cody at GOHUNT. He answered all of my questions and responded to every text. Customer service is five star too.
Great Spotting Scope, light and compact but the view is like a larger scope. I have 2 other bigger Swarovski scopes but I rarely use them since I purchased this one. It's easy to carry around so I use it much more. There were times I didn't take a scope before due to weight and bulk but not anymore. If you are on the fence on buying this scope, go ahead you won't be disappointed. Buy once cry once.
Incredible Scope in a small package. Save your money for this, you will not be disappointed. Ive looked through a lot of good glass, but the ATC has far exceeded my expectations. No tunneling or fish eye and absolutely amazing at dusk. I highly suggest this scope for hunting purposes when weight matters. Very light and easily packed. Forget the Kowa.... save your money a little longer and buy this unit.
Ordered this from B&H as a gift for my wife who is an avid birder. She already had the Kowa TSN-553 which has been considered the best small scope, and which she liked very much. I set them both up on our deck and told her to try them side by side and if she didn't prefer the Swarovski, I would send it back.Well we still have the Swarovski, and Kowa hasn't been used since. The thing that sold her (and me) on the Swaro is the expansive field of view compared to the Kowa. A bigger brighter view. The Kowa has a little more magnification - a 45 vs 40 on the Swaro, but really has tunnel vision when compared with the Swarovski. We have let other birders try it in the field and the typical response is- they can't believe how good the view is from such a small scope and ... It is a small round disk of very smooth metal which could not be made secure to the mounting plate of the the four different heads and five different plates I tried it on. When I picked the tripod up and put it over my shoulder, the scope would pivot from it's own weight. No matter how tight I turned it, and I eventually broke the 3/8 to 1/4 reducer insert (which came with the scope) by tightening it too much. The fix (after a number of failures) was the Manfrotto 088LBP Female 1/4-20 to Male 3/8 Thread Adapter. B&H sells this part.Swarovski, fix this design flaw in an otherwise excellent scope.
Was super excited to buy my first spotter and when Swarovski released the ATC I had to have one. I have had it for two months now, used it about six times for a grand total of about two hours behind the glass. I started noticing right away the when turning the focus wheel clockwise it was much harder to turn than counter clockwise. It's to the point now that the wheel is sticking, popping, and making a squeaking noise! Will be sending them in for repair on Monday. It's a great little scope and very clear but with this price tag and the reputation of Swarovski I'm very frustrated.
After testing this side by side with the ATS 65, there is very little difference in image quality. ATC is much lighter and more compact, making it perfect for hunting and hiking. Great product!
