Steinberg UR44C USB Audio Interface

I'm an owner of a the UR22C already so this felt very natural to upgrade to. The build quality is really sturdy. The controls feels good and you get some nice DSP driven effects to monitor with.Just a few things to note. There's no input to daw know like on the UR22C. All the mixing is done in the dspmix app. And the WDM driver only supports 2x input 2x output if you're on Windows. Personally I use ASIO so it's not an issue but if you're planning on using ASIO4ALL you'll only be presented with 2x in 2x out.Overall though a solid piece with good quality inputs and outputs and lots of control in the mixer app.

An excellent product which came with Cubase AI software.The UR44C output sockets and headphone sockets are 1/4" jack type sockets so for home use you may need adapters. If you don't have headphones with the 1/4" jack and/or adapter then there doesn't seem to be any way to make Cubase to use your pc/laptop's speakers temporarily.After learning the ins and outs of Cubase set up, use and terminology, you will feel confident in learning a new language such as mandarin chinese, as it will seem like a piece of p**s.Too often, these days, software instructions, take the form of statements rather than explanations.If you only have a standard broadband connection the Cubase software takes ages to download, (5gb download)

Excellent box, but beware the sortware

I bought this to do some home recording with guitar, vocal microphone and piano, I have a dedicated windows 7 computer for this task.The downloading of the software required to use this was easy to do, sadly the interface for the box to computer refused to install as it turns out the drivers seem to be for Windows 10 and the way my computer reads the driver signings refused to work. Nothing on the Steinberg website about this but a good few comments on their forum, including a few incorrect solutions. After many hours of work on this I eventually found on the Microsoft website a file (KB4474419) that indicated it might offer a solution though not specificity addressing this issue, however it did solve the problem and allowed me to install the driver. This was not an easy solution and anyone with out a good idea of Windows issues would I feel struggle.When I then went to run Cubase10 as downloaded, no, it refused to run. Turns out that Cubase10 only runs on a Windows 10 computer, despite the box stating that the UR44c is compatible with Windows 7 it turns out that this only refers to the hardware, not the supplied software, so they give you software you cannot use, with no alternative, which is sad as they did have a version that worked on Windows 7.For myself, I was very fortunate in that I happened to have a previous version of Cubase8, which fortunately worked with the driver and the UR44c.Having managed to get the box running it is fantastic, it even works with “Audacity” and I also bought the “ Camera Adaptor “ for I Pad and it works well with the free to download Cubase AI and even with Garage-band. (yes, I do mean “Camera Adaptor for I pad, USB3 to Lightning”).Overall I am really happy with the UR44c, would have preferred not to have to had so many hours spent getting it to run, and would have been nice to have access to the Cubase 10 I was expecting to have, but I can live with it.I would recommend the UR44c, however if you are not a computer geek use a Windows 10 computer, though on an I Pad it is fine with the correct adaptor.

An excellent piece of kit. intergrates perfectly with my Nuendo 10 recording software.Easy to set up and use.Well built, with two headphone 6mm sockets.The software that comes with it is very useful and can be used stand alone if you just want to practice with a guitar, mic, etc with it.Well worth buying

I have only just started using the UR44C on my windows 10 laptop.. Whilst there was some effort involved in getting everything downloaded and licensed, I am now able to record properly (and make use of the included VST effect plugins).The unit seems to be working very well so far. I am looking forward to recording with it, and it seems robustI have not had any problems with anything (though not tested it with multiple audio inputs at high frequency yet) Slightly disappointed to not receive a USB-C to USB-C cable, but this is a small point.I think the unit should work well for all kinds of recording scenarios, as well as using VST instruments. The latency on triggering the groove agent plugin on Cubase AI, seems ok so far (when triggering from a keyboard.

I found the UR44C to be a reliable, sensible and capable unit. What I liked in particular: having physical Gain knobs for each of the 4x front inputs was my top priority. Having 2x headphone outputs was useful too. Additional functionality like the MIDI and outputs (in addition to Main) was also good. What I didn't like so much: setting up the unit, registering, downloading and installing was quite a mission, and not always straight forward to follow. Also, I should have checked more carefully that in order to power the unit from a laptop you need a USB-C port. Please bear that in mind. It is very capable for basic mixing and FX.The included Cubase AI DAW is super capable. Some functionality is not available unless you upgrade (and pay) but for the most part it's more then enough for me. The only things I'm missing is the functionality of the so-called Control Room (headphone mixes and live functionality). There are also a lot of YouTube clips relating to the software, which you can learn from.This unit may not have the flashy exterior of the Focusrite range for example, and a less famous profile, but it is every bit as capable, possibly more so.

Delivery was ExcellentOut of the box the I was disappointed that it only came with a Euro 2 pin power supply :(Software download and licencing was a little over complicated but ok. Setting up the interface with Cubase AI should have been easy but the supplied manual dose not go through the correct steps for the version latest version of cubase downloaded so you have to then download the latest manual to configure it correctly took 2hrs from opening the box to recording some audio. :(I looks like a well made product and the sound quality is excellent, but if your new to Cubase expect to sit down with the manual and do some reading. Its not Plug & Play..

Purchased the UR44C 3 years ago in 2020 during the COVID peak in order to collaborate with fellow musicians remotely. At that time, my studio computer was running Windows 10. No problems installing and using the Yamaha ASIO driver. At first, I had a little problem getting my Win-10 computer to recognize the USB 3.0. Turned out that my USB-C to USB-C cable was only USB 2.0. Swapped to a better USB cable and USB 3.0 became operational. The interface works well - no drop-outs - no noticeable delay. I like the 4 front combo XLR/TRS inputs. It also has 2 TRS inputs on the back. After my computer upgraded to Windows 11, I did have to upgrade the ASIO driver. Other than that, there were no problems with Win 11. It's built solid. Steinberg USB Audio Interface

Upgraded to this from an ancient M-Audio PCI card interface, and it is a big improvement. I use Cubase as a DAW, and so this was the obvious choice. It is easy to set up, Integrate and use and the sound is very good indeed. There are a couple of small software glitches and inconsistencies to get used to, but I have found easy workarounds for these. Service from DV247/MusicStore was fast and efficient, especially considering Coronavirus issues; it arrived in 3 days from Germany. The only issue was that a UK mains adapter was not included in the package as it should have been, but a quick call to the UK based customer line has resulted in one being placed in the post for me.

no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get it to work

Due to the way Steinberg sets this up it takes hours to just input the codes to get started. Since I needed something to work rather immediately this wasn't the ideal choice. Once it was connected it proved to be awkward and mostly unworkable. After 3 or 4 days I just sent it back and I'm awaiting my refund. It might be a good device, but for me it was completely unworkable and for the most part a waste of my time and energy.
