Cuts and Plastic Splinters in My Trigger Finger

I own other Stihl products including a Chain Saw and Leaf Blower. They are somewhat hard to start but good products. Besides the point. Like I indicated above I own other Stihl products and there is a definite and noticeable difference in the quality of the plastic used in the manufacturing the Pressure Washer. The RB 400 Kohler Engine also has some quirks. I've never come across two oil plugs, one for checking and one for filling. And two oil drain plugs. Strange. And there is no information in the Kohler Manual regarding the amount of oil required for an oil change. The manuals for the Washer and the Engine are seriously lacking important information. Be aware a muffler cap cover screw on the 400 will likely back out from the engine vibration. I'll write a follow up review about a year from now unless something else significant occurs. If you experience cuts and splinters from the Pressure Washer Gun as I have let others know. With enough complaints Stihl may take action.

I bought this pressure washer and overpaid because it was a Stihl and I could get it serviced if need be. Used for 30 minutes total. Same night the pump leaked oil on my cement. Returned to store. No exchange, said they would repair. Checked in after they had all week. Waiting on part, will be another week. Terribly disappointed. Wish I had went to Walmart and got a cheapo. Could not be any worse off and still have money in my pocket.

I bought this product a few weeks ago. So far, it's done everything I needed. I wash my truck with it, first using a foam cannon, then switching to a 25 degree fan tip. I washed all my outdoor furniture with it, and got great results. I also purchased the rotary cleaner to wash my driveway, porch, and back decks. It was excellent for all of these. The rotary head makes quick work out of flat surfaces, getting the job done in half the time. The machine cranks on the first pull most times, never needing more than 2 or 3 pulls. The power is consistent, no back firing, the engine runs smooth and is quieter than others I've used. That said, I have two negative things to say about this machine: it's expensive, and it's cumbersome. I was willing to pay the price for Stihl's name. This is my 5th piece of Stihl equipment, and I will always look to them first when purchasing a new piece of equipment. But it does hurt to fork out that much for a pressure washer to be used around the house. As far as it being cumbersome, it is very wide, making it extremely difficult to use on stairs. This could be helped with a longer hose, but after spending $$$ on the pressure washer and $$$ on the rotary cleaner, I just was not willing to spend any more. I'm counting on this product to last a long time. That is why I spent the $$$ on it. To anyone in the market, I can say that this machine will do the job around your home. If you plan on washing driveways and sidewalks, the rotary tool is a must. You can also use the rotary on wood surfaces, but it did remove some of the stain from my deck.

Is it overpriced? Yes, for the list of features, I believe it is. You’re paying a premium for the name, and so did I. At its price point, it’s missing a CAT pump, Honda GX engine, longer hose, and quick disconnects. Why’d I buy it? Despite my gripes, I really like the sturdiness & layout of the frame vs the common wheelbarrow configuration and I’ve never gone wrong with Stihl products thus far, so while I shopped around a ton, I settled on the RB400. It started on the first light pull and I’m very pleased with it’s overall performance. The engine runs smooth, and it’s got plenty of power- I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s output was higher than it’s rating. I’d happily recommend it to anyone at this point.

Homeowners “Dirt Boss”

I have 8 hours of run time on the RB400. It has cleaned everything from 20 years of grime and dirt on walkway and car port to house siding. Have changed engine and pump oil @ 5 hours (easy to do!). As a home owner I have the zero rotating nozzle (a must), a 48” extension wand (a must), the gutter accessory (a must), and the rotating nozzle that allows you to have zero degree spray, 25 degree, 45 degree, detergent to rinse (a must) when washing a car or off road vehicle so you do not have to turn off the unit when changing selections. Starts on first pull which is an easy pull. I have used it 8 times in a half a month of ownership. I have not washed my cars yet or used the detergent function but when I do it will work just great. I am pleased with my purchase and happy to know that there is a gold trained Stihl tech in my home town that is available for service or parts. My RB400 was the first pressure washer with the matte black coating sold from my local dealer. I like it much better than the gloss black. That last comment was just a personal choice thought. Meaning that the RB400 is a great choice for the homeowner. 2700 PSI will take care of all my needs.

I never washed my house and fence so quickly
16 October 2024

With this purchase I did something I rarely do, researched power washers everywhere from online to instore and even used posts looking for information. What occurred is that I came back to the Stihl RB 400. There are larger products and there are smaller in the Stihl brand but this one seemed to fit my needs. I don't use a power washer that often, perhaps 8-10 times a year. I did want something that will work well whenever I use even if it's been sitting for a period of time. It was also important to me to have support if something does happen. The Stihl dealer has all of that covered. The performance is excellent and starts up very easily. Even started on the first pull after bringing it home and adding gas to the tank.

I bought the RB400 and used it to clean a driveway. It worked great. It was easy to start, easy to use and move around. That was about 2 weeks ago. I got it out today to use and the engine fell off the deck when I tilted it back. It seems the rubber bushings have come apart between the engine and deck. Now I'm trying to find new ones.

LOVE STIHL AND THE RB 400!
15 April 2023

So decided to buy this from a local dealer instead of lows or tractor supply and I gotta say wow thank god! It works fantastic and I did our huge deck in about 1.30 minutes! I put it to work right after I bought and love it! The super long hose is definitely great and doesn’t tangle like the other model pressure washers I’ve used in the past. I love Honda engines but I also love Kohler engines and the one on this unit is very impressive and works fantastic! Ones I had before would over pressure while just sitting and idling and just dump water out of the overflow, this one doesn’t do that so I would recommend spending the couple hundred more for this one! If STIHL would do more with Honda engines, that would be even better as I’m hearing STIHL is leaning more ... MoreSo decided to buy this from a local dealer instead of lows or tractor supply and I gotta say wow thank god! Nice pressure washer when it runs
5 June 2023

I am very disappointed with my RB400. I have less than 5 hours on it, and it won't start. I have only used ethanol free gas, I run the float bowl empty before storing, it is kept inside a barn, and I've been the only person to use it. I've pulled the carb and cleaned it, and checked the fuel line for obstructions and cleaned the pick up screen. It will only run, temporarily, if I pour some gas in the carb throat. It will not draw fuel. I would not buy another Stihl pressure washer. This is the first Stihl product that I've owned that has had significant problems. I'm not down on Stihl, but I can't recommend the RB400. It's out of warranty, so I've ordered a new carb.

Bought this Stihl RB400 pressure washer from Ron Ayer’s as they recommended it for my needs. Used it the first time and it ran great. Used it a second time and it ran fine. Used it 3 weeks ago and it cut after roughly 15 minutes of use. Today it won’t run at all. Checked oil and it shows full. Pulled plug and it was clean and did not smell like gas. The only gas that’s ever been in it is non ethanol. It’s stored in my barn and I drain left over gas out of carburetor after each use. Screen is not stopped up. Wand is open when starting to take water pressure off of pump. The only thing I wash with it is my house and vehicles.
