Bought this machine 12 months ago, the milk does not get drawn up. Make a large latte and get about 20ml of milk into the mug. Coffee continually drips from the head even while the milk is trying to get frothed up.The machine made ok coffees for about 5 months before things stated not working.Would not recommend this machine, spend the extra money and buy a more reliable machine and brand.

This is a great coffee machine for the price. Unfortunately we have been through 3 of these over the course of 5 years. The pump ceases in these machines. We make 6 coffee's a day throughout the entire year, so it get hammered. We keep buying the same one due to not having a milk wand. Plus this machine is super cheap for the quality coffee it makes. We like the milk feature on this machine because it's easy to clean. There are no other brands you can purchase with this feature.

Cappuccinos taste exactly like the local cafe.

This coffee machine is surprisingly great value for money. I followed the detailed directions explicitly (which you should always do!) and continue to complete the milk spout clean, brewing head wipe and remove the porta-filter from the machine after every use and it stays pristine that way. The milk frother almost works too well (I keep it on the lowest setting) and the convenience of keeping the milk container in the fridge is fabulous. I buy the pre-ground coffee and it works really well. Definitely a step up from wasteful and expensive pods. Never going back to them now!

Extremely Disappointing Machine
28 September 2019

I've been a user of manual Sunbeam Expresso Machines (like the EM3820) for about a decade and decided to upgrade to the EM5000. What a mistake that was.My first machine never really made a consistent latte or cappuccino and the amount and quality of the frothed milk varied each time the machine was used. I eventually returned the machine for a replacement prior to the warranty expiring as it got to the point that it virtually made no froth at all - either in the automatic or the manual settings. The replacement machine was exactly the same and after just over a year it did the same thing and can now only be used for making expresso. As far as I am concerned that should qualify me for a refund. I certainly cannot recommend the EM5000 to anyone based upon my experience with 2 of the machines.

Good looking but disappointing in performance
20 March 2022

Pros --Pleasing design, compact space taker, quick to warm-up, quiet in operation, hand book has easy to understand pictures and is written in actual English, semi-auto for minimalist output, easy to remove and store milk container, perfect if you like espresso only.Cons--Milk frother produces too much froth even on minimal setting, rookie mistake of not pointing the milk tube at the cup is so easy to do that it is just bad design that it is even possible, milk not hot enough, 1 and 2 cup coffee settings produce insufficient output (I like large latte and to achieve that I either have to do multiple 2 cup actions, or multiple custom espresso and custom latte actions) - this is NOT automatic and time saving.

NEVER AGAIN.
3 March 2023

I purchased a cafe barista coffee machine for my new house it stopped working properly after about6 months. I purchased another one thinking I just got a dud same thing happened. I contacted sunbeam not happy with a $250 machine being faulty. They sent me out a new one as a good will gesture in October then in February it stopped working completely no power no nothing. I contacted them again and they told me as it was a good will gesture and my faulty one was out of warranty they could not do anything. Never again will I buy anything sunbeam. Three coffee machines in 2.5 years what a joke.

Probably a five-star machine
19 January 2021

I would probably give this five stars in a couple of weeks. I've ordered a coffee grinder to make fresh coffee, but I ordered that off Amazon, and Amazon Australia is the absolute worst company in the world to order from if you're looking for prompt delivery. For example, this coffee machine from Target took as long to arrive as Amazon Australia has taken so far to even SHIP my coffe grinder. And who knows how much longer they will take? However, this machine was surprisingly easy to use and seems to make decent coffee, but I suspect with coffee grounds that I made myself, it will be way better. At the moment, I'm using coffee grounds that were sitting in the store for God knows how long. And who knows how much longer they will take? However, this machine was surprisingly easy to use and seems to make decent coffee, but I suspect with coffee grounds that I made myself, it will be way better. At the moment, I'm using coffee grounds that were sitting in the store for God knows how long. It does say in the paper wraparound that arrives with the machine that you can use pre-ground coffee, but then the manual, very first page is all about grinding your beans. So, if you are going to spend money on this, buy a grinder and then figure out where you're going to get beans from. Grinders are expensive, I recommend a Burr grinder and the one I ordered is a manual one, and that still cost me $230, with the best price being at Amazon. But then, this machine makes the process easy. It's one-button for whatever you want, Latte, Cappuccino, or just espresso. If you want double shot, just double press the machine, but you can also control it by holding the button down, same goes for yoyr milk. You can also control how frothy you want the milk to come out. There's a one-shot and a two-shot cup filter. The water reservoir is huge, it will hold enough for days of coffee. The milk reservoir goes in and comes out so easily that I just fill it up and then keep it in the fridge. The machine itself needs a minute or two to heat up up before it's ready to make your coffee because the water and milk needs to be a certain temperature, but the thing I love about it is that if I make a coffee and forget to turn it off, it shuts down automatically. So, when I'm ready for another cup, I just go to the main power switch and turn it off then on before getting my shot ready.I have never had any kind of espresso maker, I've always made French press coffee at home and bought fancy coffees at the coffee shop. But I love this and I'm actually using less coffee. Whoever at Sunbeam designed this, you make me want to look at other Sunbeam products. It seems like the kind of product where the designer actually used it for a few months because I can't see any design flaws, and I'm usually very picky. As I say, I'm sure when I get my coffee grinder, I will find that it is worthy of five stars.

Such a good purchase!

This is the first at home espresso machine I’ve owned and used. I’ve had it for 4 months now and it is seriously so amazing. The automatic milk frother is so easy to clean. I was scared that i would end up having milk chunks and gross dried bits in the little nooks and crannies of the container, but even the little pieces are detachable and easy to wash! It’s a little noisier than I thought it would be, but it’s not that bad! The coffee comes out nice and hot too, but I’ve read other reviews saying it was producing luke warm coffee..One weird thing was that appliances online sold me this machine with a pack of cleaning tablets (as a bundle). Some other models of the machine have a cleaning function that use the tablets, however this one doesn’t. So I’m not sure ... MoreThis is the first at home espresso machine I’ve owned and used. Some other models of the machine have a cleaning function that use the tablets, however this one doesn’t. So I’m not sure what to use the tablets for. Instead of simply putting the tablet into the machine and pressing the “descale” button, i dissolved the tablet in water and soaked the parts in the solution. Obviously not how the tablets are supposed to be used, but it did the job at the end of the day. So it was a little misleading for it to be sold with the descaling tabletsLastly, The tamper at the end of the coffee scoop is a little flimsy for my liking, so I bought another metal one from kitchen warehouse for 8 dollars and it’s perfectWould highly recommend buying, and as always, appliances online does such a great job with delivery

Sunbeam coffee
29 April 2022

I recently bought a new Sunbeam after my old trusty karked it! This model is far more classy looking and has more features like the milk container. I struggled to get the milk right and had multitcleanups before I decided to do it all manually. Now I make the perfect brew. I realised from my many attempts at a cappuccino, you need to have the right sized cup or you end up with milk everywhere. It’s more my capability or lack of than this new machine.

Worst coffee machine I've owned or used
12 May 2022

This machine was purchased 18 months ago, based on all the good reviews I saw online and the price point, which was within my budget at the time. It worked well for the first 2 months, and then I had nothing but problems with it. The water would constantly stop flowing through, or flow through one group hole but not the other, so I would clean it with VERY EXPENSIVE CLEANING TABLETs after each use which seemed to help, but only until the next time I used the machine. The milk frother is also very inconsistent in that it would not issue an equal amount of milk each time. At times I would only get a couple of teaspoons of milk in a the cup. When it worked properly, the milked frothed, but it was just so inconsistent that I couldn't rely on it to produce a good froth ... MoreThis machine was purchased 18 months ago, based on all the good reviews I saw online and the price point, which was within my budget at the time. When it worked properly, the milked frothed, but it was just so inconsistent that I couldn't rely on it to produce a good froth every time, or even twice in a row. Also, the buttons on this machine are very frustrating and just would not go on the "clean" setting after 3 presses, no matter how many times I tried after resetting the machine countless times. So, I was unable to even clean this stupid machine after 4 months. Aesthetically the machine is appealing and doesn't need a huge amount of space, but it's lacking in substance and weight, which indicates to me that it's housed and made of cheap of components. This morning, I pulled if off the shelf again after 6months of not using it to give it one last chance. Still, the same problems persist. It is now on the verge for council collection. After this experience with a Sunbeam coffee machine, I will never buy one of their coffee machines again. I had a perfectly good barista machine for years before I purchased this one that I gave away to a struggling student to on-sell. That machine was far superior and made by Sunbeam's biggest Australian competitor (you can guess who that is, I think). I don't regret helping a struggling student, but lesson learned - don't expect excellence from bargain basement priced products, like this one.
