Sunday Riley - 5 Stars Retinoid + Niacinamide Eye Serum - 15ml

Looks the part. I went swimming in the ocean for the 1st time.. Im 55.. The salt stung my eye skin instantly. I went snorkelling. Over the next 3 days I was using 5 stars eye sirum. Have been using it consitently for 11 days now. I know you are to use new products for 3 months usually, before you see results.. I went snorkelling on day 7 of using the product. On day 9 the salt water had starting flaking the eye lid skin slightly and so I already had 3 days of mild stinging. My missus told me to put some cheep Q10 pn my eyelids. It gave me almost instant relief where the 5 star eye serum gave no relief or enough moisturising effect to stop the dry skin. I will continue to use this eye cream to gi e it a fair ho est trial . I never write reviews but omg this should be illegal to sell. I have used prescription retinol many times before so don’t come at me saying skin needs time to adjust. I used this once and it’s been 5 days and my under eyes and lids are still on fire. I can’t even put on moisturizing eye creams with no active ingredients because it adds to the burning. I’m begging you stay away. This also gave me creases and dark circles I look much older. Good thing i work from home and don’t have to be seen like this. I slathered Vaseline for relief and ice helps too. You have been warned this is the worst product and should not be sold esp with no warning. A couple of key facts: - I have dry skin that can be eczema prone - I am well versed in using retinol and have used it around my eyes before - even though I have built up tolerance I still chose to phase this product in so that it wouldn’t irritate my skin - I bought this after hearing people discuss how it improved their under eye bags on tiktok (I know silly mistake) - I normally use the Shani Darden eye cream, which I stopped using while I was trying this product This product is ATROCIOUS! There is no value for money with the amount of product you get for the size and packaging is not a hit for me at all. It significantly worsened my under eye bags, making them darker and fine lines more profound. I have stopped using the product and tried to go back to the other eye cream and it burns to put it on. It even burns to just put on a simple Cera Ve moisturiser. learn from my mistakes and save your money and your skin. Absolutely horrendous and should be recalled.

Best for experienced retinol users

This is best for experienced retinol users, I really enjoy it for closer to my under eyes when I'm doing .025% tret on the rest of my face. I would caution people to only try a couple times a week, this isn't a nightly product. I can understand how people would struggle with this. I'd recommend starting with something more gentle if you haven't used a strong retinoid before! This will take time for your skin to acclimate to. I have not experienced any sensitivity or dryness but I have been using tretinoin every other day for over a year, so my skin is used to it.The texture of this is beautiful, it looks and feels very similar to a custard like in a fruit tart. This would be best for someone trying to target fine lines, wrinkles, and breakouts in the under eye area. It is a bit pricey, but I thought it was a well formulated product

Definitely reduces lines, but go slowly trying it out

I got this to try out and was initially disappointed and how much burning it caused around my eyes. It took several days of stopping usage for relief to set in.Then I read more about retinol and realized that I needed to start slowly (applying once a week, not daily!) to give my skin a chance to acclimate. I'm so glad I did! I can definitely tell a difference - reduction in crows feet at the corners of my eyes. And I only use it 2-3 times a week right now.This product should be used at night (to avoid sunlight exposure of the retinoids) and you may need to start using it just weekly and work up to a few nights a week. It's too bad that the instructions don't tell you that. This is one that you have to give some time to get the full results. But I think it''s worth it!

GIRL, RUN!!!

I began using this product 2 years ago and I used to think god himself created it! My fine lines were significantly minimized and my under eyes appeared always hydrated; however, I recently bought a new one a couple of months ago and it’s not the same. Unfortunately, it’s pretty clear that this product has been reformulated. Once applying it, I began feeling a burning sensation. I don’t know what I was thinking keeping this stuff on overnight, but when I woke up, my under eyes were red. I had thought maybe my skin had got more sensitive, but after reading the recent reviews, it’s clearly the product. If anyone has recommendations for a new eye cream, let me know & do yourself a favor and do not buy this product until this issue is fixed (if it ever will be).

Horrible for my eyes: irritation and worse

I bought this product because of all the great reviews I've read on some other sites to address some very fine lines I've noticed starting around the crow's feet area and to improve texture specifically around my eyes. I already use another brand retinol (0.5%) product to the rest of my face every night without any kind of buffer. I have no problem with the other brand retinol however when I started using this I would notice some irritation where it was applied. I've slowly built up every other night and used a buffer cream in hopes that my skin just had to get used to it. However after almost a year, I have horrible irritation when I use this and itching also I never had an issue with bags and puffiness before and now it seems to be almost daily. Not for even mildly sensitive skin!

I have been frequently (every other day) using retinol (Drunk Elephant’s 1% formula) on my forehead, cheeks, and chin for over three years now. I finally decided it was time to start applying a retinol to my orbital area, so I selected this one to try. I wear sunscreen everyday (Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen) to protect my skin from potential damage. Upon my second application, spaced three days after first application, I woke up with moderate chemical burns surrounding my orbital regions on both eyes. The burn began as a stinging sensitivity on contact and within two days has developed into redness, itching, swelling, and bumpy dermatitis. I've had GREAT results by following standard retinol practices. 1st- DO YOUR RESEARCH on using a retinol -esp in a sensitive area like your eyes! 2nd- the instructions on using every day is a goal... NOT the starting place for any retinol unless you're already very familiar with how it works on YOUR skin.I've been using this for over a year! Even if it's not directly under your eye as things easily migrate when massaging in. Actives are ingredients like Vitamin C, AHAs (alpha hydroxy acid) -like glycolic or lactic acid. BHA - salicylic acid. Also do not physically exfoliate on the same night. You want to treat your skin like a baby on retinol night. Avoid roughly 3 days after & before waxing as well!Ingredients that soothe are great under or on top of stronger retinols like this: squalane, colloidal oatmeal, cica/tiger grass/asiatica madeccoside, hyaluronic acid, honey/propolis. I took off 1 star bcuz directions should be clearerI know we want immediate results but retinols, esp above 1%, just don't work like that & you will end up with the opposite effect & frustrated! - if not purging, peeling & burning. Slow & steady wins the race here!

Especially the burning, peeling, cracked skin, etc...so I wanted to understand is it a sensitive skin issue or a certain ingredient perhaps....I noticed this is a retinoid. In general, retinoids are stronger than retinol. They contain a higher concentration of the product, and the molecular structure of vitamin A in this form allows it to turn over skin cells at a faster rate than retinol. So if you haven't incorporated a retinol into your skincare, I wouldn't start with this one or cut it with another moisturizing cream.
