We replaced our regular cat door with this cat door with microchip identification because other cats in our neighborhood have been coming into our house whenever we're not home. This new cat door fits right into the hole we cut for the old door. It works like a charm! The sound it makes when it senses the chip is very slight. After a few times, our cat no longer paid attention to the clicking sound at all. We also like that the door is 2 separate pieces instead of 3. And the flap is a clear plastic which helps our cat to look through before entering or leaving the house. Installation was super easy as well. The unit is made of high quality materials. We really love our new SureFlap cat flap with microchip identification and highly recommend it. I got fed up, I was spending loads of money on cat food, only for numerous neighbourhood cats to help themselves (caught on camera). I tried scaring them off with noise and spraying water on them but it didn't help. I looked at microchip cat feeders, but those were beyond my budget. Then I saw this selective entry 'Sureflap' microchip cat flap and it has solved the problem. It also makes Mogwai (my cat) feel more secure and relaxed knowing that no other cats can get in. Caution: Be sure to get a genuine Sureflap one, there are many sellers that use sureflap in the title, but actually sell you a different cat flap. In my case, the existing hole in the door was just slightly too tight and needed adjustment. I used a small sanding wheel in my electric drill and it was fitted in moments. To fit where there is no existing hole will require tools, but is still not a major job. Any half competent DIY'er will be able to fit it easily. Importantly, do not ever file, drill or cut the cat flap's tunnel section to make it fit. The coil that actually detects and reads the microchip is embedded into the tunnel andif damaged will render the cat flap useless. Lastly, as an electronics engineer, I would recommend using good quality alkaline batteries. They will give you good lifespan and stand less chance of leaking and destroying the electronics inside the Sureflap.

It's a good cat flap in theory but has proved to be essentially useless in practice. A slightly determined cat will break or beat the cat flapIn a short space of time. Within a day my cats had half pulled out the draft excluding brushes by clawing around the sides of the flap window when it was locked, meaning it then wouldn't open or close properly. Not long after they figured out how to open the flap inwards when it is locked, by putting a paw down on the lock mechanism and pulling the flap open with a claw around the edge. A little time and determination and they were out. The lock mechanism is easily pushed down even when "locked". And this doesn't register as a cat leaving, so you would think the cat was still inside if away from home.So unfortunately it's ... MoreIt's a good cat flap in theory but has proved to be essentially useless in practice. Great product, particularly if one lives in a cat curfew area. Easy to install and Instruction manual well written. Fortunately we purchased the Door and Hub value pack. It is not clear from the advertising how the door can operate without the hub. A bit fiddly to set up and link to internet. Instructions could be clearer on this aspect. The section that says that the manual switch overrides the electronic catches is not clear as it is not possible to test this. without the cat!! Thus ain problem is that you cannot test system without shoving cat's head into the tunnel to make sure that the catches are working properly. An "override" function would be good Ie. capacity to inactivate electronic catches to allow free entry/exit of cat or just use manual override as ... MoreGreat product, particularly if one lives in a cat curfew area. Apart from these minor glitches, product is excellent.
Read all the instructions before you buy. Great product, just do your prep and you'll be very happy.I absolutely love the SureFlap pet products. My cats come in at night for dinner and I have set the curfew so the one way admission setting means they can't get out again. Then it automatically opens in the morning, they hear the click and can go out and play before breakfast.Only drawback, like the other people here I didn't realise how small it would be. I expect my cats to grow larger so I sold it and upgraded to the SureFlap Pet door, which is perfect. This is the third surepet dual scan connect catflap's in our house and intend to grow that number. We use the catflap's to control house region access on internal doors as well as allow scheduled exits from the house for 1 of the cats only. Having the return option is fantastic for when the other cat gets out by mistake, however can't exit again as that door is set to inside only for the indoor cat. Also fantastic for trapping smart cats that catch on when you need to take them to the vets. We just change the settings on the app for that particular cat to no longer be able to exit the laundry, so when it goes in for food/drink/cat tray, it can't get back out to hide in the rest of the house. We just change the settings on the app for that particular cat to no longer be able to exit the laundry, so when it goes in for food/drink/cat tray, it can't get back out to hide in the rest of the house. Also quite helpful in scheduling to stop cat access in the morning after they go to the toilet. After 0500 it locks them from coming back down to the bedrooms which stops them scratching and meowing at 0530 for their breakfast. But allows them access to the rest of that end throughout the rest of the day and night. Very happy with the surepet range of quality products and will be adding a few more doors and surefeeder connects in the near future. Cons; Not many, really just the price as it is an expensive catflap but control features outweigh that issue for us. Another small gripe wouldbe lack of Google Home integration, which would be helpful and expedient for us at times. Also, when using for internal and external access control, it would be nice to be able to select the doors as internal and external. Then you could assign cats as inside or outside cats in a blanket rule. Then assign rooms and provide which rooms and schedules each cat can access them.
Tunnel is too long for our elderly cat. She has trouble stepping through. The microchip click is too loud and scares her so we haven't used it. Currently using it just as a flap. Looking for an inexpensive cat flap that isn't so hard for her to use. Wish I could have returned it by the time I got her trained and using it.
Everyone is right, it's very small, but our cats are young so they were managing, awkwardly, to get through the door. The issue I have is that, for no reason, it's stopped working. Factory reset, changed batteries, reprogrammed, no joy. Just a $160 unsecured cat flap at this stage. Zero help or response from manufacturer from either calls or emails. Quite disappointing.
Great value for money, brand new boxed. Does exactly what it says. We bought it specifically for the curfew mode that we can set and change remotely if needed to ensure our cats are locked in and safe at dusk. It is also interesting to have the app and see how much time theyre spending outdoors each day. Easy to set up the hub and it connected even though the hub was upstairs and two rooms away. Very impressed! It was easy to set and save their individual chips so we know which cat is coming and going. This catflap will give us peace of mind when we go away on holiday and means cat care is easier to arrange as now carers only have to visit once a day to put food down instead of twice to open and lock the catflap. Very pleased with this product!
I couldn't find this on Amazon and was worried about the cost, but I'm so in love with it. The hub connects adequately even though it's not in line of site as recommended but two rooms away. The app is not perfect, but certainly functional and I've already got 3 of my five half-wild cats going right through it. Best of all, NO raccoons at my cat food. My fiance rigged it into the framework of an old, non-smart, window flap with very little difficulty.
