A step up from my AMBIT 2

The dimensions of the watch are similar to the AMBIT 2 but the 9 Baro T is lighter and the dial is not as striking. The watch is very configurable in that the user has the ability to choose from a number of watch faces as well as control of the accuracy of GPS and brightness of the watch. These decisions will radically affect the battery life so choose wisely. I was very surprised to find that the watch rapidly discharged during the first two days that I wore it because I had the watch set for maximum brightness and most accurate GPS setting during my workouts. After getting about 1.5 days of use, I changed a number of settings to try to extend the battery life. The main drawback was that the display became almost unreadable. Something needs to be done about that. The wrist HR monitor is an excellent concept that doesn't quite work well in execution. When starting out, the sensor registers little change in heart rate and then often, during the middle of a workout, the heart rate jumps to an abnormally high rate. If I weren't aware of my physical conditioning I might become worried. The GPS appears to be fairly accurate and responsive, however the pace rate is off. A modification to the SW may be able to correct that. While I like the design of the 9 Peak, I choose to get the 9 Baro because I felt that the larger face would be easier to read. That may be true but the lack of screen brightness is a significant hindrance. I am not sure that the 9 Peak would be any brighter. The watch sits comfortably on my wrist and doesn't look out of place even though I am not a large person. The strap is also comfortable although the 9 Peak strap looks even more comfortable as well as more easily adjusted.Overall, I find myself still a bit unconvinced by the watch after almost two weeks wearing it. The battery life is a disappointment as well as the lack of screen brightness. The design, performance and features are good as is the build quality. I also like very much how the watch is integrated with the new SUNTO App to provide an athlete with a number of metrics.

Ultra performance and long battery life statements are a joke, it could not even manage a year of light use from a suburban runner. Will not buy from this brand again. Extremely disappointed with it: bye bye Suunto

When I accidentally scratched the screen of my Ambit2 (it still works perfectly), I told myself that it was time for an upgrade, so in 2021 I bought the supposedly best Suunto watch: the Suunto 9 Titanium Baro. After having it for several months, I am extremely disappointed with it. Let me try to explain why (I could write pages and pages, I will try to be concise).First of all, the accuracy of the GPS is much *much* worse than the one of the Ambit2: when you look at your track, you see very strange things even if you run in a straight line, especially in urban environments. This implies, in particular, that you cannot trust your instant pace (in my case, it can vary randomly, say, from 4'30''/min up to 5'45''/min), which is fundamental. This never happened to me with the Ambit2. How is it possible that, so many years later, and at such an abusive price, that it works that bad??On the other hand, the wrist HR sensor is absolutely horrible, you just cannot trust it at all, even if your watch is really tight on your wrist. For instance, when I swim, I usually get a HR of more than 220 bpm for intervals of more than 20 minutes, which is of course impossible, as I would be currently dead. If you like to take a look at your HR when training, just buy the chest belt. And the most important thing: this watch is not reliable. This, for me, is the most important feature of a watch like that, which I usually use for a long time in the mountains, the sea, etc... Namely, my watch has just "died" like 4 or 5 times: it stops working for no reason. Sometimes, when I plug it into my computer, I am able to reset it and make it work again (losing all the configuration, such as the personalized sport modes, which take me a lot of time to set up). But already twice, my watch has just died completely, and it is impossible to switch it on, even pressing the reset button (12 seconds upper-right), or whatever you could try. I have sent it to the technical service, they have sent it back to me (after almost one month, which is a really long time, even with the covid excuse), and then, again, a couple of months later, it just dies again, and you find yourself with such a stupid (and angry) face, and without a watch to train. Absolutely inacceptable, and with no apologies at all from the Suunto support.By the way, from my personal experience, the support from Suunto is awful. They take, in average, more then two days to provide and answer, and they are not able to respond to technical questions, such as which GPS system (Galileo, Glonass, Beidou...) is better on a city, or how to use some of the Suunto Plus features.Of course, not everything about this watch is bad: the battery life is indeed amazing, and it is light and visually nice. But, from a purely technical point of view, in my opinion the Ambit2 was much better (even forgetting the fact that my watch dies frequently for no reason), infinitely more reliable, and at a much cheaper price.Summarizing, I was such a proud Suunto customer, and I have really tried hard to minimize all the above issues of my Suunto 9, so that I could enjoy it. But I am fed up, this is way too much. This watch is not worth, by far, its price. Bye bye Suunto.

Feature-laden training partner

If you're pondering a heavy-featured training watch and you don't want to pay a premium for the brand that starts with a G, take a look at this watch! Seriously. Why would you pay $300+ more for the same features, just to have the same watch as your friends? So much functionality that I haven't yet been able to tap into every feature. I love the HR on wrist and paired it easily with my other brand of HR chest strap (Bluetooth) for more vigorous activity. Lots of sport profiles, loads of measurement and progress tracking options. I love that it gives me so much right off my wrist, though, including my VO2 Max, a "fitness age", calories and steps, and more.GPS is quick to load/locate. It is also very precise, in my experience thus far (at least in urban settings, where I've been hanging out) -- I can look at the reports and see where I crossed from one sidewalk to the other. It's not as light as some other watches and it doesn't say Apple or Garmin on the front, but I think anyone looking for a serious training watch with loads of features would be foolish to pass by the Suunto Baro 9.Battery life is ... well, it's less than my old Polar V800, but better than I expected given all the functions -- and the watch will tell you when it's low and go into battery saving mode to protect your workout if you haven't planned ahead. I have yet to really play with my watch settings in the ways that will preserve battery life, but they're available. My one issue was my skin reacting to the band, which is silicone. Thankfully you can find other 24mm bands and swap them super easily -- I have one Suunto microfiber, and two Barton canvas bands that I bought off that Jeff Bezos guy's website for dirt cheap. WIth the quick switch pins, it is easy to change them for colour or comfort!

Great watch for the great outdoors.

This is my second Suunto watch, got it as an upgrade to my 5 year old Traverse (which still works perfectly and held up fantastically over the years). Really liked the overall look of the Baro 9 and read a lot of positive reviews. So far I'm not disappointed. The build quality is top notch and what I have come to expect from Suunto. It's substantially lighter than the Traverse, which I didn't expect to be noticeable, but it's definitely made for a much more comfortable wearing experience. On the surface the software can seem a little basic and underwhelming. For everyday use and using it as an extension of your phone for notifications etc it's pretty basic. On the surface the software can seem a little basic and underwhelming. For everyday use and using it as an extension of your phone for notifications etc it's pretty basic. The real usefulness of this watch is within the various exercise modes and all of the metrics it's capable of tracking. The customizable sport modes (which you can set up through the Suunto app) allow you to fine tune up to 4 different displays for each sport/activity with dozens of different pieces of info. Everything from elevation, temperature, ETA, heart rate, graphs of any of the above, and lots more can be assigned to wherever you'd like them to be for each activity. So far my only real complaint with the watch is that there aren't enough options/settings for things like the display brightness (which even on high isn't really bright enough for comfortable viewing in direct sunlight). I'd like to see more choices on when the screen's backlight turns on and off and how long it stays lit etc. Suunto has been very good about updating the firmware on most of its newer watches and seems to actually be invested in improving its products for its users. So it wouldn't surprise me if some of these issues were addressed in a future update. Bottom line is if you want a smart watch to use as an extension of your phone (to be able to play music, use as a payment device, reply to texts, make phone calls, etc) this probably isn't the best watch for you. If you want an actual piece of gear that will last forever and provide you with information and insights about your activities and has insanely accurate GPS and weather information you'll appreciate what this watch has to offer.

Love my S9 Baro. 2 1/2 years of use 24x7! Solid rock and some opportunities of improvement for 2022 ;)

Wonderful watch, solid, reliable, indestructible, great size (like big watches), excellent quality and love the look. Lives on my wrist day and night and only take it out to charge it. Readability on direct sunlight is wonderful. I do Road Cycling/MTB/Running/Snowboarding & home workouts. Track sleep everyday and gives me what I need. Appreciate Resources and Recovery Advisor. The Suunto App is just great, doesn't need to be a science lab like other apps to give me what I need, complete and simple to use! For MTB brings up where I live almost all trails whereas the others don't! Good job Suunto.Suunto, PLEASE PLEASE add these features to maintain this watch up to competition in 2022:- VO2Max for Cycling (S9 Baro can connect to power meters, there's no reason why this metric can't be added to the watch and app!);- Weather Forecast!: as much other ones of the competition, you need to add this feature where I can see my city weather today, upcoming hours and next days (this shouldn't be a problem since the watch is connected to the phone all the time as others do too). For everyday use while working etc, this is very handy;- More Watch faces! and also more customizable! Customization of current watch faces is too limited in terms of data;- Screen Flashlight!: the competition has this feature and is very simple but so so so handy at night at home when dark. A screen flashlight just turns the screen on at full brightness as a flashlight. Spends more battery?, doesn't matter, is an option that some need others don't, but is so handy!;- Screen Brightness: in the pass, I could set the level of brightness myself (0-100%). After a software update, now I can only pick low-medium-high. And the high is not as high as the oldest 100%. Ps bring this back to how it was! Is up to the user to decide the level at their battery expenditure ;)I recommend this watch and is 100% great quality! As I said, is beautiful and indestructible! Thanks Suunto.:)

My 8 Months Experience with S9B

GPS consider good for my activity and area which is I'm more focused on running and hiking. You can tweak between BDS or Glonass or Galileo. In my case BDS as accurate as Galileo meanwhile Glonass give a variable result. Normally I'll link my watch with Suunto apps before any activity to ensure my GPS optimized.OHR, normally for 1st KM it will jump to zone 3 and sometime up to zone 4, but after that, the reading will start to stable. So I treat my 1st KM as a warmup. Better do dynamic warm up before start any activity. My S9B Battery can last around 1 week. Here how I used it.For daily use I'll wear my watch from 7am until 7 pm with oHR on and backlight in toggle mode (to keep the backlight remain off). Here how I used it.For daily use I'll wear my watch from 7am until 7 pm with oHR on and backlight in toggle mode (to keep the backlight remain off). With this setting, the battery will drain about 10%-11% per day. So for my 5 working days the battery will drop around 50%-55%.During night, I'll put my watch on Save Mode and without wearing it, the battery normally drain 1% for every night. So it will drain around 7% for 1 week. Then I still have about 40% for my activity which is I can get 4 to 5 hrs running a week with Performance Battery Mode (GPS+QZSS+BDS). But I can get another couple of hours by turning off the screen during activity in Custom Battery Mode. For hiking, I will charged the watch first because my hiking trip took more than 4 hours.Last but not least the Suunto Apps. I buy the watch during Suunto transition period from Movecounts to Suunto Apps which means I never experienced with Movecount. What I can comment here is, within this 8 months, Suunto keep update the Suunto apps to keep their competitiveness with other brand. Initially I think Suunto apps quite bland and too simple if you consider their brand and price, but now I'll start to feel happy because with the latest update, they include TrainingPeaks Powered Training Load and Recovery Metrics. And the new dashboard also look really nice. The watch also still get major update such as Suunto Plus, new 'Tour' battery mode, Turn-by-turn navigation alerts powered by komoot and few more.Overall I'm happy with my purchased.I give 4 star because there still have room for improvement especially for new product. oHR still can improve, the battery should be lasted for 40 hrs in Performance mode and also don't forget about track mode.

Not a good outdoors watch anymore

I have been a sunnto fan and this is my 4th Sunnto watch. I primarily use the watch for hiking, climbing, backpacking and at times running and working out, in addition I use it for navigating outdoors and tracking elevation and barometric information. while Sunnto Ambit 3 peak was an incredible practical watch, this one packs tons of useless features and hides / removes / makes it hard to access the practical ones. The heart rate monitor is very inaccurate to a point of making it completely useless. The screen is dim. is it readable yes but do you enjoy having a watch you can barley read? no. Impractical screens, there are tons of screens to toggle to and back, some can be configured but most can't and while you are toggling between those screens you are waiting, it takes a second, and as you find yourself toggling the dim lid watch and getting frustrated by the wait and the useless information it presents you, you wonder why the makers made the watch counter intuitive. The watch is touch screen but you first have to press the middle button in order to active it. They have removed the locking button which while in exercise mode prevented accidents. Accessing the most basic information such as "what is my elevation" requires many screen changes. This watch is very confused as to what it wants to be. While being an outdoors watch was its core I fear its trying to compete with apple watch. If I wanted an apple watch I would have bought one but I want a real outdoors watch, one that can give me the information I need in a pinch, as I navigate and route, and make sure my heart can take more of the stress I am forcing onto it. This used to be Suunto but not anymore.

Also requires constant pairing and repairing to Suunto phone app for best shot at workingSleep tracking works but no way to unpack the meaning of the three levels (good, moderate, poor). Would be nice if they told you how to improve sleep score if a poor one. Some other observations-Phone app is pretty basicLack of interesting watch faces
