"Great looking dive comp"

As a recreational (advanced) diver, I really needed a dive comp that was easy to use, had a great display and one I could get to understand quickly. The Suunto D5 is all this, and whilst I have yet to use the air-integration, having now dived with this I am very glad I did get it; I just need the transmitter unit now.On a dive it was very easy to understand and view. It's as easy to read at 33 metres as it is a 3. The back-lit LED screen (as opposed to others I looked at/tried with the old "Casio watch" analogue display), is perfect. I also read up that its algorithms are a bit conservative, but I found it quite decent and not a hindrance. It gives all the warnings/vibrations and times for the deep-stop, and subsequently for the final stop with arrows on the display to ascend/descend. It’s only slightly larger than your average wristwatch and can therefore be used as a great looking timepiece immediately after diving. It’s also slimmer than I expected as some are like a brick.I have also used this for snorkelling/free-diving - after a simple switch on the menu it reboots and is ready for free-diving. It starts recording almost immediately (0.3m under) and then records depth at 0.1m intervals.Overall, it's a fascinating bit of kit and one I have yet to use all features (compass, mixed gas etc.). I would highly recommend this to all divers - it would suit all levels and is worth the extra few pounds over the cheaper-end ones, and it’s probably as good as one that’s around the £1000 mark (compared on the dive boat)…and it’s rechargeable, where others were not. Mike’s Dive Store also did a great deal on the interchangeable coloured straps so people think I’ve bought two of them!

No question I'd get it if I had all my own gear, as you are missing out on some key features without. In particular calculating your air consumption and automatically converting that into predicted endurance as well as you no deco limits. Its maybe not the best on the market, but it offers a lot for the price point. The key thing if you are doing 3-4 dives per day will be remembering to charge every day (and then recalibrating your compass)

Amazing Dive Computer
14 May 2019

I have a bunch of dive computers. I truly love this one. I have about a dozen dives on this computer now but the true test was night diving. Night diving is my most favorite thing and this computer was bright, readable, absolutely perfect for night diving. As a female the size is actually bigger than my wrist, but as a cold water diver it isn't bigger than my wrist + 8mm neoprene. I bought a dive computer, not a wrist watch and I truly love it. This is my 3rd SUUNTO dive computer because I always dive with 2 dive computers and an analog SPG. This computer is truly amazing and the POD tracks tank pressure much better than the old transmitters. This is truly an amazing dive computer.

As the owner of two other Suunto Dive computers, a Mosquito and a Cobra (Type 1), I find it unneceralily gadgety. On the plus side, the color display is easy to read while diving and provided info is easy to understand at a glance. The air integration is a desirable feature although it comes at a price (I haven't tried it yet tho as my Cobra provides this). The compass seems to be a good feature, albeit it's complicated. Much better to use a simple magnetic compass with graduated bezel on on your watch strap. The ability to diaplay a profile of your dive on the face is a nice feature bit I'd gladly trade it for a replaceable battery.Straps easily replaceable although OEM ones expensive. Be prepared to have a way to recharge it on a long trip. With the dive features and connectivity switched off you can expect about a week to ten days of battery with only watch functionality. The alarm clock is pathetic, virtually inaudible and the vibration inperceptible.Chronograph function limited to 9:59h.

Great Dive Computer and for Daily Wear
16 April 2020

I've had my D5 for several months and have many dives on it. With its flexibility, it is my Dive Computer, used for Hiking, and is my choice for Daily Wear. It is easy to configure and easily switches from O2 to Nitrox and back. It is very comfortable to wear and I have both the Lime Green and Black bands, and they are easily interchangeable. If I have any issues, I wish that they would have included both the Standard and Extended Bands. This is designed and meant to be a Dive Computer, but the Standard Band will not fit over Dry or Wet Suits.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,The D5 links up to the desktop interface if you are using a PC, or Mac. The interface allows for easy configuration and backup as well and ability to provide additional details for you dives.

My favorite dive computer!
4 December 2019

The Sunnto D5 is hands down the best dive computer I've ever owned. I've worked as a scuba instructor since 2005 and have had the opportunity to use many other brands and products. The D5 fits so comfortably on your wrist, you almost forget your wearing it. All the features suit me perfectly for the type of diving I do. Whether it's technical diving, recreational diving, free diving or even commercial diving. The display is clear and easy to read and also stylish. I recently took the computer with me on a liveaboard trip to French Polynesia and only had to charge it twice during the trip. The battery life is great! I also really like how simple it easy to change wrist straps. Overall I'd highly recommend this computer to any diver. Thanks Suunto! #reviewtowin

The D5 is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH OLDER SUUNTO TRANSMITTER PODS
2 August 2021

I bought the D5 computer last year as an upgrade to my Suunto Vyper Air that I bought ten years ago. Unfortunately I haven't been able to use if for diving because of the pandemic. I finally signed up for a liveaboard boat trip starting this Saturday. I bought a new battery for my transmitter POD and thought it might be a good idea to do an equipment check to make sure everything worked.Unfortunately my new D5 wouldn't pair with my POD transmitter. I re-read the manual several times, reviewed several Youtube videos and went to the Suunto site looking for a solution. I wasn't sure if it was my transmitter or my computer that was giving me the problem. I bought a new battery for my old Vyper Air to see if it would pair with my transmitter POD, which it did.I contacted Suunto to see what I needed to do to return my D5 under warranty. It was then that I learned that I had an 'old' transmitter that was not compatible with the D5, and that if I wanted to read my tank pressure using my D5, I would have to buy a new transmitter. There is no place on this product page where it clearly states that the D5 is not compatible with 'old' transmitters. I didn't even know there were two different types of transmitters. After wasting all this time trying to figure out what was wrong, I am now jumping out of my eyebrows trying to find a new transmitter pod for a diving trip that I am leaving for in five days.
