Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is the eighth Crash Bandicoot series game, though the fourth chronologically. The game retains the series' core platforming gameplay and adds new elements through the use of the Quantum Masks, who can alter levels and provide means to traverse or overcome obstacles. It also includes additional game modes for replaying levels, and the ability to control five characters, three of whom – Cortex, Dingodile, and Tawna – have their own unique gameplay and levels. Following his defeat in Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Uka Uka attempts to liberate himself and his acolytes Doctor Neo Cortex and Nefarious Tropy from their prison in the past. His latest effort rips open a hole in the fabric of space and time, and causes him to pass out. Cortex and N. Tropy swiftly escape and discover that the rift they use links their universe to the rest of the multiverse. They now want to make use of it to conquer all dimensions. It’s up to Crash and Coco to save the day.

This game can be approached two ways. One way being to just play through the storyline and not really care about 100% completing every single level. This is what I would recommend for less experienced players, players who aren’t completionists, players who don’t have a lot of patience, and players who aren’t super hardcore gamers. The other way is to play this game hardcore and aim for 100%. This is only something I would recommend for players who have experience, who are completionists, players who have a lot of patience and determination to keep trying attempt after attempt until successful, and players who are more hardcore who play to win and complete games 100% regularly. This is NOT the game for a casual gamer who wants to unwind and relax by playing a game. ... MoreThis game can be approached two ways. It can be REALLY stressful and frustrating at times, but that’s part of what makes playing it, and especially beating it, so rewarding. I’d even say that if you have serious medical heart issues, or struggle with high blood pressure, this may not be the game for you, especially if you are going for 100%. It will get your blood pumping and elevate your blood pressure because of the difficulty. At least that was my experience. As someone who has always loved Crash games for around two decades, this is my favorite game in the franchise. It’s also the hardest. As a completionist and perfectionist, I enjoy getting 100% completion on the games I play. When I started out playing this game though, I thought this was going to be one of the few games I didn’t get 100% completion on. I still wanted to finish the storyline and beat the game in that sense, but never did I ever imagine myself attempting to get 100% completion. I ended up playing all the levels and beat the storyline, but after getting to the end, I had enjoyed it so much that I wanted more. So I decided to go back to each level and really try for 100% completion. It was a journey, and it was definitely an extremely difficult one, but eventually I got that 100%. It was one of the most satisfying 100% completions I’ve ever had with a game, and at least for me personally, it was worth all of the effort, stress and frustration. I will say, if you are aiming for 100%, I suggest playing it the way I did. Don’t start going for 100% in every level. If you get 100% in your first successful play through of the level, great. If not, continue on to the next level. Do this until you complete the storyline and have played every level through at least once. THEN go back to the beginning and aim for 100% completion. As the game progresses and gets more difficult, you will gain skill and understand more and more what the game expects from you, and what your approach to each level should look like. It really allows you to develop and improve your capabilities and skill over time, while also testing your skills, which is something I really liked about it. I really felt like I had the ability to grow as a player and as a gamer in general. Because of this, once I went back to the beginning to revisit each of the levels, I was pleasantly surprised with how much easier each level felt. It was still very difficult, don’t get me wrong, but 100% completion became an attainable goal to work towards. Also, look up walkthroughs/play-throughs for challenging levels on YouTube. They are super helpful! So overall, I would definitely highly recommend this game. It is so well done. But realistically, know that this game is not easy and it will perhaps make you want to throw your controller across the room at times if going for 100% completion, BUT it is all worth it in the end if you stick with it and follow through.

I really enjoyed Crash 4 on my PS4. When they announced that it was coming to Switch, I was very excited. I got it on sale during Black Friday (November 2021). I've been enjoying playing on the go on Switch. Now as for the graphics, it actually looks almost the same. Of course, the other console versions have a higher resolution, but the graphics still look pretty good. There are some minor differences in lighting or shadows, but its minor. Is there any lag? The only lag I experienced was at the beginning where Crash reveals the Toys 4 Bob logo and lag during the loading screens. Speaking of loading screens, I'm not sure if it's longer or not. I played the PS4 version as well. I think it's about the same. I think. I'm not sure. Otherwise, I didn't really ... MoreI really enjoyed Crash 4 on my PS4. Or some other shading details. It's not too bad really. The game still looks decent on the Switch. The Switch case looks nice. Sadly, no reversible cover.Overall, I had a good time playing it on the Switch. Would recommend for those who love this game and want to play it on the go.

Always loved Crash Bandicoot games until this one. Although the graphics are amazing, its Wayyy too hard, making it not fun. My blood pressure got way too high with frustration playing this... sooo frustrating!!! Not sure what TOYS FOR BOB was thinking but the game could have been amazing had they not made it impossible to get through levels. If you like dying hundreds of times and not getting through impossible levels then you'll like it. I will NEVER buy a game made by TOYS FOR BOB again. They took the fun out of it making it so hard. Wish I could get my money back. Dont waste your money, you'll regret it...
As a Nintendo gamer I never got a chance to play a Crash Bandicoot game before so I was excited to see Crash 4 come to the Switch. It look a little while to get a feel for Crash, such as the running towards/away from the camera (which was very different), but once I did I had a great time. In the game you play as Crash or Coco, going through levels in different themed worlds, each of which has challenges to beat on top of just finishing the levels. Eventually you unlock mirrored versions of the levels, each with a fun visual effect per world. At various points in the game you also play as some other characters with their own mechanics, which adds some nice variety.Despite all the fun, this game gets really hard at times, often frustratingly so. But with practice you will get better, and you will want to complete some of the challenges to unlock character skins and art galleries, etc. The game has a retro option that lets you play like old Crash games with only 3 lives per level, but the modern option gives you unlimited lives, a generous checkpoint system, and more - that is the way I would recommend playing. Completionists beware though - there is even more to do than I’ve mentioned here and even the best gamers will tear their hair out trying to do it all, so I would say just beat the game, and do the extras you want.Port-wise the game runs really well. There’s some loading before each level, but respawning after dying is fast thankfully (and trust me, you will due a lot!). The game looks terrific despite the Switch being less powerful than the other systems Crash 4 is on, and the sound is fantastic, especially the voice acting. In summary, Crash 4 is a great game for platform fans, but can be very challenging. If you aren’t fond of tough games, maybe knock one star off the score for yourself.
The Positives:+ Great port that really looks good, and runs solidly as well+ Enjoyable soundtrack+ Controls are solid+ The alternate characters are at least fine, if not very enjoyable to use+ Plenty of levels to play and stuff to doThe Negatives:- You expect me to do WHAT to complete this game?- Some of the levels could have done with being a bit shorter- Some of the crate placements are almost impossible to figure out without a guide- I can't even with those platinum relic time trials- At least some of the N-Verted versions are really annoying to play due to the visual styles usedSummary:Crash Bandicoot 4 is a fun platformer that is a really good time to beat, but absolutely arduous to complete. The Crash Bandicoot series is one whose potential has been largely unrecognised. It creatively brings the best elements from the past, while also delivering everything you'd expect from a high-fidelity 2020 release. Precise platforming that almost require a surgeon's hand definitely makes a return, but the presence of playful puzzles woven through the experience will be a welcome surprise to even a Crash veteran.Ultimately, 'Crash 4: It's About Time' feels like a game created by a talented team who not only love the Crash franchise, but know how the fans like to play it. Their intimate understanding, and no doubt first-hand experience, with the classic games inform the design of this newest edition beautifully. And if you're like me, you'll race through the first half of the game, only to find that, oh my god, you feel exactly like you did playing Crash fifteen years ago.But that said, I can't guarantee you won't exhaust your entire vocabulary cursing this game. So if you 106% this game, you 106% deserve a Viking warrior-king's funeral.

Good Points: New enemy types were cool. Also, overall they’ve done alot of improvements with the graphics and character animations. It feels much smoother than before. (Obviously as it’s build with new gen software)Improvement Points: No issues yet but I am still to complete the game.
I'm honestly really (pleasantly) surprised how good the port turned out. The resolution dips on handheld at times (particularly on grind sections and in some cutscenes) but the framerate is consistent, I haven't had any lag or dropped inputs; overall it simply works. It is also a little quiet on handheld - I had to turn the volume nearly all the way up to hear everything. But honestly for a (most certainly rushed, I mean c'mon it's Activision after all) port I expected much worse. It's nothing like the NST/SRT ports, and if they had ONLY released this game on switch you'd probably not be able to tell anything was "wrong".That's not even touching on how brilliant and gorgeous this game is in general! The art style is fantastic - honestly no surprise from the devs who made Spyro Reignited - and the platforming is some of the best in the franchise. Some of the collect-a-thon aspects get a little repetitive (N-verted mode especially), but you don't have to 106% the game to enjoy it. I would easily consider it the best game in the franchise. Overall, if you have a switch, and you like Crash Bandicoot, it's a no-brainer: get this game!
