The fit is a little snug, but it mounted perfectly and securely holds my Enterprise 8 POE switch. I don't know why Ubiquiti doesn't sell rack mount kits for these, but I am glad that Hive Tech is filling the gap. Also, the product was printed and shipped within 24 hours. Very impressive!

Not a lot of competition with this set of ports, speed and PoE at this price range. Square-ish form factor is nice for applications that aren't rack-mounted. While the outside is plastic, it does have considerable metal heatsink plates inside on the top and bottom. It does get quite warm in operation, and if you're concerned about temperature putting two 120mm or one larger fan of top will make it run much cooler.

Just what my network needed. I wish Ubiquiti equipment wasn't so hard to source right now. Grateful I got this switch to drive my workloads.

First off, I have 25+ years experience as a Network Engineer for DOD, Financial and Fortune companies. I have never seen a more mentally challenging, non intuitive, poorly documented device in my time. Literally the only documentation shows how to mount the thing on the wall. Everything I've learned about this was in Forums. After the ballistic learning curve, you get just enough time to realize the 2.5gb link to your router, is passing your 101 plus clients, through is at around 2.2% link capacity. If I can take this back, it will be there tomorrow afternoon (after a two weeks of working with it). Ubiquiti is notorious for quickly obsoleting equipment, almost zero backwards compatibility, and constantly renaming crap that adds horrible confusion to new product ... MoreFirst off, I have 25+ years experience as a Network Engineer for DOD, Financial and Fortune companies. If I can take this back, it will be there tomorrow afternoon (after a two weeks of working with it). Ubiquiti is notorious for quickly obsoleting equipment, almost zero backwards compatibility, and constantly renaming crap that adds horrible confusion to new product rollouts. I have used their products for 8 years (Unifi, UISP, Aircam, Unifi Cloud, etc, etc) but I will no longer, it is beyond stupid to continue too. I now loathe Ubiquiti more then anything ever in my life. I would take 3Com gear over this!
Quite literally this switch gets hot. It was hot enough to be uncomfortable to touch for long periods. And that was with about 20w of POE draw. I added a usb powered fan to the vents on the top to keep it cool. That dropped the temps (read by the internal temp sensor) from 155F to 125F.Past the heat concern, the switch is great. With a healthy POE budget and 2.5G support across all 8 copper ports and 2x 10G SFP+ on top of that, this makes a great lab switch or even core for SOHO setups. I can vouch that it passes 2.5G without issue. And the 10G backbone ensures this switch isn't a choke point for high throughput applications like NAS access.
This is my first Ubiquiti device I have used - it's well built, performs well, and is thoughtfully designed. Cons - requires Java JRE on MacOS to run the webUI. Sometimes changes made with the IOS apps and Java webui take time to converge. It works better if you leave the Java controller running all the time - which is how I assume it is meant to be deployed. Since I do not have Ubiquiti wireless, the client reporting is usually not working - there are port level stats but the client level stats are not 100% stable. Sometimes it shows past activity, but most of the time it just says insufficient client traffic. I am sure this works much better with Unifi AP's - but in a mixed network the Unfi management system looses most of it's value.
Nice upgrade to an older UniFi switch. Built a new production PC with 2.5Gbps ethernet and this fit the bill just right. Will add 10G SPF+ soon as well! Perfect...
Well, it won't connect to the Internet directly without another piece of equipment that they fail to tell you about. In fact, the documentation on this switch and the configuration process itself is completely messed up (so you'll buy more stuff). I used to be a big fan, but now I'll wait for another manufacturer.
I purchased this switch to power and link multiple TP-Link Omada EAP670 Access Points. They have 2.5G uplinks and use 802.3af so this was perfect. Even though Micro Center's specs are a bit misleading. It has eight 2.5G ports that do 100/1000/2500 and two SFP+ ports which support 10G. I have the switch completely full in my setup with four 2.5G clients, four 1G clients, and a 10G client with a 10G fiber upload and it's working great. My only two gripes about this is the price and the fact that it's not rack-mountable whic is why I deducted a star. I get that Ubiquiti seems to be all about quiet operation nowadays as the body of this unit basically doubles as a heatsink but I would have preferred a basic silver body with rackmount holes on the sides. My other issue is that it's priced way too high at the current price of $500. I think $350 would have been a perfect price and I would have purchased more than one if that were the case.
I placed this switch in one of my pinch point. It supports speeds at nearly 100% rating. This Network Switch does not have a fan but a large heat sync on the top, so it sits on my desk without adding noise to the work area.I added 10GBaseT Transceiver so that it talks to my backbone at 10 Gbs. Even not knowing whether the CAT6 cabling would support the speed, it did and the performance is solid.
